To have loved and lost...

My question to folks is:

Is it better to have had and lost, than to have never had at all?

This can be be applied, for example, to:
  • Is it better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all?
  • Is it better to have tried and failed, than to have never tried at all?
  • etc, etc.
It's a pretty ambiguous question, but it should get some interesting answers.

Um...I guess it depends, but generally (for me), yes, especially on the "trying" and "failing" one.
Because, if you never try, you'll never fail, but if you never fail, you'll never get better.
And the rest are a bit more complicated, but they're almost the same. xD

Well, yes. I mean, if you never try to do anything because you are afraid of failing, afraid of not being loved in return, afraid of not getting the answer you want, etc., then you will always just be worried about whatever it is you are worrying about since you never tried to take action.

If you are always just going to be a spectator and not do anything, then you are pretty much useless, in my opinion. For example, if you believe something is wrong, like a bully picking on a little kid, or something as big as slavery being wrong, and you think that whatever you do won't change anything, so all you do is sit back and watch and let other people take action, then what was the point of having an opinion about something? What was the point of having that feeling in the first place if you weren't going to do anything about it?

You don't get anywhere by just thinking about it, you need to be able to take action as well.

Always. As is said, what does not kill one makes one stronger. Of course, there is the problem of if doing something does kill one, but then there's no need to worry about the question anymore.

History's greatest persons are predominantly those who persued something and didn't give up. Actually I don't know, but it's a nice thought.

It depends on what the subject is.
Like..
Is it better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all?
It's better to have never loved at all
Is it better to have tried and failed, than to have never tried at all?
It's better to have tried and failed.

It is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all. Is what I say.

I don't have much to say on love since I am only 14.

Very dependent on the situation and the person. Some people can be traumatised by losing what they have devoted themselves to the end and refuse to try again for fear of another loss.

I know there are good reasons to love and try, and most of the time I would say that, yes, you should act without fear of failure, but I'm in a lost/fail moment of my life so I'm currently feeling like it's not really worth the time and effort I put in.

I agree with the quote, yes. It is better to give it shot, and have fun doing it, than to never have at all. Even if what you did wasn't fun, it was still a valuable life experience, that you wouldn't get without loving/trying. So... I will always try, and try I always will.
