151 - 251 - 386 - 493 - ???

I wondered how many old pokemon would be in the Isshu pokedex, so I did some math. I didn't use the Kanto or Johto Pokedexes because both of those had every pokemon up to that point.

DISCLAIMER: THESE FOLLOWING FORMULAS ARE NOT TO GUESS NINTENDO/GAME FREAK'S METHODS. THEY ARE JUST TO SHOW A ROUGH ESTIMATE OF HOW MANY NEW POKEMON WILL BE IN THE GAMES INSTEAD OF JUST A RANDOM NUMBER GUESS (AKA EDUCATED GUESS). THESE FORMULAS PROBABLY WON'T WORK WITH THE 5th GEN BUT I AM USING THEM TO GIVE A GENERAL IDEA OF WHAT WE COULD SEE HAPPEN.

There are 68 old pokemon in the Hoenn Pokedex. There are a total of 202 pokemon in the Hoenn Pokedex. There are a total of 134 new pokemon in the Hoenn Pokedex (A.K.A. Hoenn Pokemon).

202 - 68 = 134 (total Hoenn pokemon in 3rd gen dex - total non hoenn pokemon in 3rd gen dex)

134 / 202 ~ .6634 (amount of new divided by total)

68 / 202 ~ .34 (amount of old divided by total)

So far we know that Tsutarja/Tsutaaja is number 1, Pokabu is number 4 and Mijumaru is number 7 in the Isshu Pokedex. We also know that Chiraamii is number 78.

.6634 * 78 ~ 52 (percent new times total known thus far)

.34 * 78 ~ 26 (percent old times total known thus far)

If we take the number of pokemon that we know of so far and apply the ratio we get 52 new pokemon to 26 old pokemon.

I did the math for the previous generations to see how many pokemon they added for each generation. This is total pokemon, not just new pokemon:

They added 151 pokemon in Kanto.
They added 100 pokemon from Kanto to Jhoto.
They added 135 pokemon from Jhoto to Hoenn.
They added 107 pokemon from Hoenn to Sinnoh.

If you add these numbers together you get 616 pokemon.
If you average these numbers together you get a little over 123 pokemon.

.6634 * 123 ~ 82 (percent new times estimated guess)

.34 * 123 ~ 41 (percent old times estimated guess)

If there are 123 pokemon in the Isshu Pokedex, 41 of them will be old and 82 of them will be new. This isn't much and I hope that the ratio decreases.

The ratio is from one game and one game only. This means that the ratio is probably too large compared to what will happen in the Isshu pokedex. If we get lucky there may be 20 old pokemon.

There was a rumor spreading around on Pokebeach that this one guy seems to know insider info about the 5th Generation Pokemon games. He claimed that there would be 157 pokemon in the Isshu pokedex, which would bring the total pokemon to 650.

From Pokebeach.com (http://pokebeach.com/2010/06/possible-black-and-white-spoilers-unconfirmed):
Spoiler:
This afternoon we were contacted by a man named Martijn Müller, the webmaster of an old and famous Zelda website. He claimed to have insider information on Black and White, and after spending a few hours verifying he was who he claimed to be, we decided to indulge and see what he had to say. Granted, we often get a lot of people claiming to know insider information on Pokemon games, with some going to extreme lengths to fool us. However, he has revealed insider information to gaming communities before, which leads us to believe he is telling the truth. He also personally showed me some developer material from Black and White, which further cemented to me that he was telling the truth. Nevertheless, this information could be one highly elaborate scheme (it wouldn’t be the first time), so for now, please just take all of it with a grain of salt - it’s not confirmed and could be fake. As a fan site it is our duty to post rumors when we have gone to reasonable lengths to verify the sources, which is why we decided to post this. Remember, grain of salt!
- There will be 157 new Pokemon, bringing the total amount to 650.

If this turns out to be true:

.6634 * 157 ~ 104 (percent new times rumored total)

.34 * 157 ~ 53 (percent old times rumored total)

This would mean we would get 104 new pokemon, 4 more than we got in Johto. This would be fine by me, but I doubt that this guy is speaking the truth. Most rumors are fake.

We will find out the true total sometime around August I am guessing.

As long as there are at least 100 new 5th gen pokemon I will be happy.

What do you guys think? How many pokemon do you want to be added? How many new pokemon do you want? Do you wish they would just add all new pokemon instead of some old ones? Do you want less new pokemon? Tell me!

Haza May 17th, 2010 8:00 PM

I personally think we sill be seeing maybe a total of 648 or something like that, I like the looks of that number! ^_^

Toxic Potato May 17th, 2010 8:01 PM

I dunno, all I know is that I'm looking forward to the 5th generation. :D

Timbjerr May 17th, 2010 8:09 PM

I may be imagining it, but I thought it was announced a while back that it was 110, which would put the total up to 603

I don't recall hearing that.

I'd like it to be a big number. New Pokémon are nice. x3

Timbjerr May 17th, 2010 8:17 PM

I could swear I saw it on Bulbapedia on the day B/W were announced...maybe it was taken down as just a rumor. XP

Personally, I'd like to see something in the neighborhood of 135-150...make the total just short of 666. XD

This would bring the total to of 616!!!

Keep in mind that there are thousands upon thousands of pokemon already pre-drawn, and more and more are coming. Who knows how many they will add!

I hope that they go beyond 700, but its highly unlikely.

How many pokemon do you hope they add?

Little known fact or maybe I should say highly ignored fact. As of 05 or 06 (can't remember) an older copy of Book of Relevations was found that suggests that 616 is actually the original number of the beast.

I think 107 again is a safe bet though part of me kind of hopes they add 58 or 158 Pokemon to bring the total to 551 or 651. Preferably 651.

But I must say Haza 648 is a daaaaamn sexy number. ;)

loliwin May 17th, 2010 10:24 PM

put it up to 9001
I'd go with 648 or 656. More pokemon makes me more hyped and no new pokemon at all makes me bored. :(

_Prince_ May 18th, 2010 2:35 AM

Calling it now, 611 random guess meh ;)

PokemonLeagueChamp May 18th, 2010 2:35 AM

Maybe we'll be getting 666 Pokemon. O_O

NatureKeeper May 18th, 2010 2:39 AM

I guess It will be something like 597.

LethalTexture May 18th, 2010 2:40 AM

Another 107 would mean 600, right? I'll go for that.

X75flames May 18th, 2010 4:26 AM

Dosnt matter how many little fail pokemon we get, as long as we get at least 10 good ones I'm k. Who serriosly caught Skitty?

Sneeze May 18th, 2010 4:30 AM

They should stop at 512. Why? Just because.

As long as I get a baby Seel and a Farfetch'd evo I don't really care anyways. :3

A range of 155-163 new Pokémon? I can see that. Plus, the PokéDex number at 648 or 656 do look pretty good. If I had to make another guess, I'd say about 632 Pokémon in total (139 new Pokémon for the Isshu Region).

Hopefully they will ad at least 103. Neat 600.

rather than add random ones or take away awesome ones to get a perfect number, i reckon just do any over 100, like past pokemon.

JP May 18th, 2010 5:26 AM

Whatever amount it is, we can be sure the total will be over 600. I'd like a larger number myself though, maybe around 648 lol.

Cherrim May 18th, 2010 5:32 AM

I would prefer a smaller addition. If they wanted to keep adding Pokémon each gen, they should've started only adding 50-75 each time instead of 100+. D: I think once it passes 500 Pokémon, it'll officially be ridiculous and since we're already at 498... >_>;

I really, really don't want any more than 600. That's too high a number to remember. :( I do agree that if the Isshu region is so far away, it should have newer, more exotic Pokémon but I really, really don't want to remember that many.

Alucus_Of_Borg May 18th, 2010 5:32 AM

Well seeing as they originally designed 1000 pokemon in hopes that it would become popular its safe to say that we still have a long way to go before the end :D I for one am happy about that.

Porygon Z May 18th, 2010 5:43 AM

I hope that Tajiri will stop on 5th Generation, with a total of 650 pokemon.

Conor May 18th, 2010 5:54 AM

I'm hoping for the more the merrier, I mean it's so far away, I reckon a lot of the first 4 generation pokemon shouldn't even apear, be great if some of the pokemon are just exotic variations of already existing pokemon too but with a bit of a twist haha.
I hope theirs a mr's mime :(

MartinJF May 18th, 2010 6:04 AM

I Think around 100 new pokemon.

Mudkipzrock May 18th, 2010 6:30 AM

Me thinks....
Forget it...
Probably um.....
YA!
656

Mujahid May 18th, 2010 6:30 AM

I don't really care about the numbers...anything between 105-115 will do it...add 20-25 awesome pokemon and i'm gonna love it.

nielsnijhof May 18th, 2010 6:32 AM

That number can never get high enough :D

*offtopic* Mujahid, imma go steal your signature ^_^

Binary May 18th, 2010 6:36 AM

600-650 would be a nice total.
I wouldn't like it if it were more than that XP

blue May 18th, 2010 7:19 AM

I'd say around 118 bringing it to a total of 611, 600+ Pokemon is ALOT of Pokemon, it could be less that 100 I mean they have to run out of ideas soon, but I still want to see all the new pokemon!

SpawnHyuuga May 18th, 2010 8:16 AM

I could see us reaching 600 this generation. My guess was maybe 607 - but for all we know since Arceus is the "God" Pokemon - is there going to be a #666 aka the Satan Pokemon?

Omicron May 18th, 2010 8:26 AM

This gen. between 605 and 610 pokemon total. They should stop on 777.

HunterX101 May 18th, 2010 8:29 AM

Wow...Ive been waiting for a Day with over 600 Pokemon for a long time...CANT WAIT!

Mew~ May 18th, 2010 8:37 AM

I hope we get somthing like 700 but it will probably be somthing like 600...!

Like someone (who no one listened to) said before; 616 has been revealed as the original number of The Beast.

myrrhman May 18th, 2010 9:03 AM

I personally would love to see them start all over. Introduce like 200 new Pokemon, and have no already existent Pokemon until the National Dex.

Also they should stop when they get a grand total of 1000 Pokemon.

Kikaito plush May 18th, 2010 9:07 AM

they will have 609 pokemon in black and white.

ChrisTom May 18th, 2010 9:26 AM

Well I think they'll round it off to an even 600. I never liked the number "493"...

Don't ask...

But yeah 600 would be a good amount without going overboard. I mean if they do more it'll be fine, but you know.

Charizard632 May 18th, 2010 1:57 PM

I've been thinking about it. The answer is 608!

Distribution

9 pokemon from starter families
99 regular pokemon
3 legendary trio pokemon
2 uber legendary pokemon
1 cute legendary pokemon
1 ultra-uber legendary pokemon

I think they should stop when they reach over 2025 pokemon!

MartinJF May 18th, 2010 2:08 PM

Lets see:

9 pkmn in starter families.
19 new evo's or pre-evo's for existing pkmn.
68 other new pokemon
3 Main story legendaries
2 smaller, story-important legendaries
4 Side-quest legends (much like Heatran, though some might be smaller and such)
3 hidden legendaries (much like the Regi's of S/R)

Honest May 18th, 2010 2:50 PM

Probably around 110. xD Random guess.

They can only get so creative, Nintendo can. xD

The new region is far away from K,J,H and S so Isshu is probably not in the same country as KJHS is in so we need a International Pokedex! am I the only one that see the problem! Nah i'm over reacting just change the national pokedex into international and it's fixed:).

Benjamin510 May 18th, 2010 4:14 PM

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNE THOUSAND! Around 670 would be nice!

Thunderpunch May 18th, 2010 4:17 PM

They'll probably add over 120, maybe about 135

pokemongarnet May 18th, 2010 4:27 PM

I'm hopin for 112 pokemon in gen.5. I don't know why.

SpawnHyuuga May 26th, 2010 8:20 AM

OVER NINE THOUSAND? XD LOL

I don't know, 666, 616, 2025? idc I just want to see a truly evil looking ferocious BEAST Pokemon.

PiPVoda May 26th, 2010 8:32 AM

Did any of you know that Mijumaru will be pokemon #500? :D

Hoenn has brought the most number of mew pokemon into the pkmn world than any other region other than Kanto (and Kanto has barely a higher amount). I hope b&w does the same. So in my dreams I'd say they add somewhere between 115-135. If we're lucky they they may even add 150 new pokemon. So I expect the final numbers ot be around 608-628. If we get lucky then we'll see 643.

I heard a rumor sometime ago that originally they created over 1,000 pokemon before Green or Red versions came out. Yeah that sounds crazy, and it might be extremely exaggerated since you know how rumors get, but if it's true then say if we get 150 new pkmn and it brings to total to 643 then we'll still have another 357 pokemon to be revealed. :D

Beat me to it, haha.

I reckon it'll be just over 100, to bring us up to 600 - maybe 601 with an event legendary (that I won't ever be able to get... I hate event legendaries, but that's a story for another day).

However I hope we'll get a few more, to bring us up to 650... Or 651, to hark back to RBY/GSC when we had x-hundred-and-fifty-one Pokemon.

P.S. PiPVoda, you really need to change the colour of your post font. It's quite annoying to have to highlight everything you post to be able to read it against the dark background...

Alternatively, is there a way to change the background colour of the forum?

Really? I have good eyesight so it's not hard for me to see. Yes there is a way to change the display used (they have like a zillion of 'em). I'll take it into consideration.

Yeah the x-hundred-and-fifty-one sounds good to me. Though 493 isn't a bad number, neither would 628.

linkinpark187 May 26th, 2010 10:15 AM

Another 151 would be nice...start over with no Zubat, no Ratatta..... So, my guess is going to be 644. You never know, I mean, the main character is going to be a few years older than previous versions. The only way to find out is to wait... :D

Vanitas~ May 26th, 2010 10:32 AM

Although I personally don't want this many, Gamefreak can't pass up the opportunity to make #666 into a Legendary. They've already broken the god barrier (twice, if Mew counts...), so what's to stop them? It won't be EVIL looking perse, just really, REALLY beastly. So, I'm guessing 666-670 will be the number.

Imagine if Black's mascot Pokemon was indeed good ol' 666..... As if people weren't making a big deal out of these games' supposed controversy enough......

Anyway, the number I want is around 600. However, it's likely not to be the case.

typhlosionLV80 May 26th, 2010 10:34 AM

As many as possible!!!! Dude, tons of new pokemon like in D/P/P would be amazing, especially with the animated battles!

SpawnHyuuga May 26th, 2010 12:44 PM

Well according to my research, 616 is the false number..but thats a religious thing, not a Pkmn thing.

Either way, I'm just hoping for any amount with decent Pokemon. Tsutaaja doesn't look too bad, but I'm not looking at being a big fan of the other two. Well see what happens with other Pokemon and evolutions.

Changed it now. Sorry for grumbling, I must have accidentally changed it because the background went dark grey the other day and I couldn't figure out how to switch it back.

SIN1488 May 26th, 2010 3:31 PM

I'm hoping the new total will be something like 560. I know that doesn't seem like much, but that's the point. Think about it, the less new pokemon they have to work on, the more time they can put into them, making them better.

dooxer May 26th, 2010 7:00 PM

i wonder... they have only shown like 5 pokemon, are they anywhere close to completion, or just keeping us rabid?
could it be that the other pokemon are too closely linked to some hidden feature...? are most in 3D...?

I'm guessing more or less 616 based on the average.

Still, I want them to add only a hundred or so, that way, they could make the individual Pokemon better. Here's hoping the number becomes 593.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire May 26th, 2010 10:10 PM

I'm hoping for 151 new pokemon like in kanto
9 Starter pokemon
2 trios (6) one of them being the mascots the other being...just being there...
1 cute legendary
and 2 opposing uber legendaries
3 pseudo legendary pokemon
and 130 normal pokemon!

DXrobots May 26th, 2010 10:22 PM

....but only if they were actually studied and approved and stuff. It might be pretty cool for the people who get in, but be saddening for the many, many, mostly tantrum-keen, little kids that tried with their fail designs.

If they let anything through, that'd be a horrible, horrible game. You would not believe how much crap, for lack of a better word, there is out there.

I'll say probably around 600 would be fine.

Penutz May 26th, 2010 11:55 PM

590 - 620 would sastisfy me.

This is also what i want to see

- 2 new eevee's
- A new dragon pokemon
- Good poison pokemon
- Pinsir evolution

shengar May 27th, 2010 6:48 AM

I wouldn't mind 575 if the new pokemon design doesn't look too weird. Looking forward to see: Farfecth'd evolution, dragon type Eevolution, legendary bug and poison, and another decent bug pokemon

Dragonika May 27th, 2010 9:20 AM

20 not worth my time.\
7 new legendary.

Lady Gaga June 12th, 2010 5:16 PM

I think since Isshu is such a new and exotic region, and is a reimagining of Pokemon, it will have a 151 new Pokemon, just like the original games. That would bring the number of Pokemon too...644...thats a good number to me! :)

Look carefully. It says 676. I think. That's going to be quite a few!!!

As much as that would be totally awesome, I think I see 076/026, as in it's Isshu dex number.

But then again looking at the Tsuutsaja picture I can make out a 4 on the end suggesting 494, so it might be 676 or 626.

TheReal June 12th, 2010 6:12 PM

There are going to be >9000 pokémons this generation. True story.

Ok.. I bet will be a number around 630 to 650.

Eeohnex June 12th, 2010 6:28 PM

It would be a nice addition between 130 - 151 Pokémon just like the 1st Generation. It doesn't really matter to me how many new Pokémon we get in Black and White, as long as they are descent and keep the originality of Pokémon I'm cool with it.

MrsNorrington June 13th, 2010 2:31 AM

All I know is I want a TON of new ones. Its always hit or miss with new ones. So far I'm happy with what I've seen. But some of them are .....bad, honestly I really don't like that fire ape. Doesnt look like a Pokemon. And the more new ones there are there's a higher chance for good ones-like Chiramii!...of course that does mean a higher chances for crappy ones, but I'd rather have a lot more pokemon.

CHIRAMII
Look carefully. It says 676. I think. That's going to be quite a few!!!

Is that a real picture? Idk, doesn't look like the cute Chiramii we saw in the release pics. Where's the pic from. I'm gonna take it as a grain of sand.

Nash Bandicoot June 13th, 2010 4:33 AM

I think it will be 600 in total,
if the look at it patten wise Gen III has 386 and gen gen IV has 493
so 38+ 11=49 so 49+11=60
and the last digit for Gen III and IV went down by 3's so 6-3=3 3-3=0
So 600 (if you can catch all that)

LordDarkrai June 13th, 2010 4:59 AM

My guess is that it will be about 600 to 650.

Yup it's real, it was in a coro coro magazine I believe, I don't know how you can say it isn't cute when it's just a blur, it will still look as cute as Chiramii did in the release pics.

Chiramii feels more like a cutesy early/mid-game Pokemon to me...that's probably more like a 576.

Masterge77 June 13th, 2010 5:46 AM

I am expecting around 112 new Pokemon, that would be 605 in total

Also, enough with the 666 jokes, it's not funny anymore!

107 new Pokemon were introduced in Gen 4, 493 + 107 = 600, so it could be 107 new Pokemon, but I expect 112`

Don't believe what that guy on Pokebeach said, it's a fake, in fact, he stole a fake Pokemon design from my friend on DeviantART, undenyable proof that he is lying!

Because he IS a cutsey early/mid game Pokemon, the number says 20, but I am not sure until we get more clear scans or the official website updates.......

Larger Amount of New Pokemon Logical?

There's a rumor that there will be something like 167 new Pokemon. I was thinking, and with it being developed for the DS/DS Lite/DSi, it may be smarter to make more Pokemon. More of those new ones added on because of this would prove to be new pre-evolutions or new evolutions of pre-exusting Pokemon. Pokemon wouldn't have to be more easily available in the region, as moving them from DPP or HGSS would be much easier than the importing you had to do for moving between the last generation, and especially the ones before it. It would also prove to be a better move for Nintendo financially, in that it might make people who are actually into the game enough to try and catch them all have to have to buy the others should they not have them or trade for them.

Does anyone get the feeling that Pokémon #666 will be a fire type?

Or maybe a dark type? It might be more appropiate.

Darkhaven3 June 13th, 2010 10:35 PM

As long as I can beat up on the new kids with some classics like Cyndaquil, Pidgey and Vulpix. Out of those - if I were to purchase Black and/or White - I'd probably end up using maybe 100 Pokemon anyway.

TheGnarles June 13th, 2010 10:50 PM

To be completely honest I could careless how many they add because I still use Gen 1 Pokemon... but new Pokemon are very nice :-)

>Feelings< June 13th, 2010 11:47 PM

I'm guessing it will go upto 650 in total this time around.

Serebii just updated with clear pictures, showing that Chiramii is number 078.

mikey June 14th, 2010 10:36 AM

I don't know how many new pokemon there will be, but I really hope that they don't add too much. I'd say that the total after this generation will go from 493 to around 600 I suppose. I hope not too much more.

Pichu_War June 14th, 2010 10:41 AM

i think they'll add 157 new pokemon to get 650, but they could realisticly go on forever making new pokemon, because there is like what millions of life forms, animal species, myths, legends, and other things (all together) to base pokemon off of

How about a dark/fire type? Problem solved.

I think 630 or so would be nice for this gen. As far as how many they should add total, I think 1000 would be aesthetically pleasing:D

XxRogueTrainerxX June 14th, 2010 11:00 AM

My guess is around 620. I'm excited for next Spring.

Thunderhead June 14th, 2010 12:38 PM

I want to see 151, this would be a nice number to see again.
May be a bit too much though :/.
Well, I just hope it hits over 610. Thats my number line, right there!

Phew!, 650 Pokemon that'll take some time to catch them all :P

Numbers June 14th, 2010 5:23 PM

I say the number will stop at 626 for this gen. Just thought I'd throw in my bid :D

A Pixy June 14th, 2010 5:44 PM

This number is just getting huger and huger. I can't wait until we get to 1000. o3o

RYOUKI June 14th, 2010 8:06 PM

If it stops at 666, I'll think they're just messing with us. Maybe about 603 will be fine. A 110 (I think, my maths failed) would be just fine.

drivr3joe June 15th, 2010 10:41 AM

How about they add no more?

Thats like saying, "How about we stop making money?"

mehappy June 17th, 2010 6:35 AM

I think that they won't make it to 600 this time actually, I don't know why, I just have that feeling.

ChaosNinjat June 17th, 2010 6:46 AM

I'd say about 132 new pokemon, bringing it up to a grand total of 625, sounds good to me :3.

Nikorasu June 17th, 2010 6:53 AM

Ugh over 600 pokemon? I really hope not :\

morrison June 17th, 2010 6:53 AM

I would like if it was like r/s no or hardly old pokemon and only new ones.

Insane85 June 17th, 2010 7:03 AM

I'd like to see another 180 or so pokemon, but with none of the old ones used.
