To Be, Or Not To Be...A PackRat

Here's an interesting question for ya. How many of you never throw stuff away. How many of you still have the ribbon form your 8th birthday. How many of you still have the first cat toy you got for a cat now long dead. I'm cleaning my room right now and am finding stuff I forgot I had.

My mom keeps lots of my things. She even has stories that I wrote when I was four. They are not very good.

I hate throwing things away. I always give my parents a long speech on how I need it, and it goes into my closet. I still have my old stuff bunny from when I was a new born. :P The only way I will ever get rid of things is when my mom throws them out behind my back, or my friends convince me to throw something out.

I always throw things away. I have no need for what I no longer need. xD I get rid of it when it is of no value to me. Or.. at least try to.

I don't throw away stuff, especially those that are dear to me. Heck, I still have the candle used on my 8th birthday. :D
When it comes to clothes/food/etc. I just donate them.

I swear, my closet seems to be larger then my actual bedroom, and the stuff that has entered into there over the years has covered the walls and the floors with...Everything. Occasionally, when I'm bored, I just shift things around in there and see what I can find.

I keep everything. I never throw anything away! I don't because when I do occasionally throw something away (after I've had it for a year), I end up needing it sometime in the future and it always bothers me D:< Lots of my old stuff are in boxes in my garage. When I've outgrown things on the other hand, I just donate to charity.

Moving to OVP cause this is really OVPish n_n;

I have keepsake stuff I never like letting go. So I guess in a way I am. Most of my stuff came from when I lived in Maine so it's a very important part of my life that I can't seem to let go of. >_< I tend to keep old clothes, like my old anime shirts after they ripped too... anything that can't be worn. D:

Things like that have value to me... even though some one else would find them as junk. I find it hard to let go of something when I feel like it's been there through certain parts of my life.

I won't even let go of my old comforter. It's old and falling apart but I've had it since I've moved to Arizona. It smells for some reason but my mom is going to fix it and wash it for me. XD

I have stuff from when I was a baby(x
I just never throw things away unless moving.

Alkaide May 20th, 2010 11:14 PM

I guess my attitude is not that like.

...but my mom is really that sort of~

I am a major packrat. >_<; I get it from my mom 'cause she's even worse than me. But I'm trying to not be so bad. :/ When I clean my room these days, I make it a point to throw out things that I really, really don't need. Or the things I forget about. Basically if I can't remember why I have something or where I got it, it'll usually get thrown out. (But unfortunately, it's still not enough--I have way more stuff in my room than places to put it. D:)

Don't get me started on my Pokemon collection. I started cleaning that stuff up in the back room earlier this year and put in boxes because even though a lot of it is junk, it's sentimental junk. I found so many strange things I kept like labels that said "Pokemon" or newspaper articles from Pokemon events (one was about that lucky kid who read so much for his school, so all the children at his school got to see Pokemon 2000 for free). Then there were Pokemon band-aids, Pokemon fruit roll-ups, Pokemon vitamins which were pretty nasty when I opened the bottle, and just anything else during my childhood that had "Pokemon" on it. I threw away a lot of stuff, but like I said previously, I kept a lot back because I'm just not ready to throw it all away.

Then there's stuff from school. I have a bunch of bags of homework from elementary school, middle school, and high school. I threw away a lot of it, especially math and science and stuff I didn't want to see anymore. I kept back all of my English papers and assignments obviously. It was interesting to see my handwriting back then and see how much I've improved. Not to mention my old grades from elementary school were very interesting because the teachers all made comments at the end.

I'm a terrible pack rat. And I get it from my mother. D; I do have a means of controlling what I keep, though. Like recycling newspapers more than a week old unless there is a VERY interesting article in it.

Eternal Nightmare May 21st, 2010 10:36 AM

I throw out everything that I really don't need untill my mom steps and holds it for herself. So I don't keep anything that I find old like clothes I've outgrown or old toys. Its my mom who stores all that stuff away before its actually gone for good.

Amaruuk May 21st, 2010 11:18 AM

Oh man, am I ever! >.>

I dunno why but I tend to project feeling onto things, like seeing something someone discarded and feeling pity for it. I guess I'm just weird? In any case that's essentially what's behind my pack-rat nature.

Funny how someone like me lives in a tiny apartment, and all I have here is the tip of the iceberg. Drives me nuts that the rest of it all is in my parents' attics halfway across the country, and for all I know could be rotting away or destroyed by the elements. No one knows the condition of the stuff in mom's attic since she moved to that house 6 years ago and no one has gone in there since. I know it's all just stuff but a great deal of it is really old and holds a lot of sentimental value. A lot of my memories are stored in that stuff, and as I get older it will become hazier (it already is, to an extent). Being able to remember is important to me, so I care the most about old, nostalgic items.
