References between generations

I've always wondered about the references between FR/LG and HG/SS. In the Five Island Rocket Base, the scientist claims that Giovanni has a child with red hair... could that be the rival in HGSS? Also, the computer reveals that Team Rocket is using magnetic radio waves to enforce Pokémon evolution - that is obviously somehow related to Team Rocket's actions at Mahogany Town, as well forcing the Magikarp at the Lake of Rage to evolve (I don't see why the fisherman are complaining that they want a worthless fish instead of an awesome sea dragon that can kick serious butt). The most striking reference is; Red = video game version of Ash. Seriously, he looks like Ash, he uses Ash's Pokémon (in evolved form :/) and Blue (equivalent of Gary) says his time as the Champion was "short-lived thanks to Red".

Makes you wonder...

Um, dude, to fill you in, these are oooooooooooooold~

We've known for a while that Silver is Giovanni's son...

The Sceptile King June 13th, 2010 5:58 AM

yes i've known that and also in fr/lg you get a metorite from rse

Red is not a video game Ash. Never say that again. Ash is based off of Red, not the other way around. And Red's team in Gold, Silver, and Crystal was his manga team while in HeartGold and SoulSilver his team represents Pokemon you receive in Yellow.

When I read this thread, the only words that came to my head are these: 'And news?'

Uh, sorry bro, but it's the other way around. Ash is Red and Gary is Blue. The games were first, so you can't say it like that.

Wait another mo'!

It's GREEN! GREEN, not BLUE. GREEN is the default name of the kid in RGBY.

Seems like the people who play FR/LG and HG/SS before even looking at R/B/Y and G/S/C are starting to pop up now. It was only a matter of time.

They probably put the Five Island stuff there just for the heck of it. When they made R/B/Y they didn't know that would happen in Johto, so I don't think they put any references like that in the original games.

I'm surprised these kids didn't show up sooner :D And yes...it's Green. Blue is Blue, you see :D.

I'd be one of those, I guess, but I do my research. :D I've never played (properly, at any rate) any game before Emerald. D:

At any rate, speaking of links, you know how the Sevii Island themes are remixes of Cherrygrove, Violet and Azalea Towns? Yeah, they are. :D

*glomps*

Official confirmation that Silver was Giovanni's son (In game canon, at least) occurred in HGSS in an optional, technically-unreleased scene involving a "Fateful Encounter" Celebi.

The fact of the matter is, G/S/C took place three years after the events of R/B/Y. It is thereby logical to assume that the events of HG/SS, being the remakes of G/S/C, took place three years after the events of FR/LG, being R/B/Y's remakes. Going by the fact that the events of Johto have already been set through the making of G/S/C, FR/LG can have all the fun they want in referencing future events because technically, they have already happened and can thus be proven to be true.

I can't quite decipher it from what I just typed, but would that create some form of paradox?

Gah. RED came before ash and GREEN came before Gary. Gary and Ash are cheap rip-offs Who do nothing. Learn that. You are the kind of people who think that. Red was in the first game WHICH came before the Anime. So yeah.
