my friend spent a long time EVing a team for wi fi battling, and he regretted it. i thought about EVing my houndoom once, but all of the stuff you have to keep track of makes it boring and tedious

Same with me; EV Training just seems so confusing for me and it's hardly any fun. I'd rather just raise the Pokemon I want for fun and just for good battling, nothing too confusing...

Cherrim June 23rd, 2010 4:42 AM

I rarely EV train to begin with, so I definitely won't be doing it in a first run through of Black/White. The most I ever do is breed for nature/ability anyway, and even then I don't do it until my second playthrough of something, the endgame, or the third game. (My Diamond team was mostly untouched even after beating the E4 but most of my Platinum team was bred/checked for nature.)

So yeah, a playthrough for fun 'cause that's what the series is for, for me. :)

brownkidd June 23rd, 2010 8:02 AM

Heck yes I EV train, but only after I've beaten the elite four. I try to play through the story for fun, then I get into breeding and EV training afterwards. Nothing too complex, I usually just go to Smogon and pick a moveset & EV spread that looks cool.

Nick June 28th, 2010 12:41 PM

I'll play the 5th gen games like I've played every game beforehand. Focus on the storyline. I don't play competitively, I don't collect Pokémon, I don't really catch Pokémon unless I really like them. After I finish the storyline, I'll focus on collecting Pokémon to complete my Pokédex and then I'll likely go on to other activities in the game if there are any.

Corruptodile June 28th, 2010 12:57 PM

Pick Mijarumu as my starter because I love it, get Meguruko the Croc Pokemon, get a few other pokemon, explore the world, beat the elite 4, restart again with a different starter. After three run throughs with all the starters, maybe I'll attempt some challenges or get EV training.

Volroc June 28th, 2010 2:11 PM

im gonna choose 3 teams of 6 and raise those 18 for gyms, and e4 ^_^
ill alternate between the pokemon *hopes for wild dunsparce*

Pokémon Ranger ✩ Moriarty June 28th, 2010 2:17 PM

^ I'm going to do the same as you, OP! Normally when I get a new Pokémon game I just blunder blindly through until I've vaguely assembled a team that sort-of works, maybe, sometimes, and then keep trying until I win. With B/W I actually want to see what's around and strategise. =]

exteradude June 28th, 2010 3:11 PM

I'm gonna import Pokemon Black from Japan and get an entire team to level 100 based on my preferences.

With Pokemon Black, I'm going to pick the Sea Otter. You see, I live by the ocean and I see sea otters all the time, and they are just the cutest! There is a place near my favorite restaurant where a pack of ocean mammals [don't know the type] come out to chillax. I look outside the window of that restaurant and watch them play around. They're friendly, or so I heard.

The mammals that reside here are somewhat used to humans because there's a sea animal shelter and hospital. Whenever a sea mammal is sick or injured, they're caught and cured up there to be released again into their natural habitat. The people here go up there to visit them sometimes. It's pretty interesting.

Once the games come out in America, I'm getting Pokemon White and starting with the Fire Pig. Since I'm in the process of obtaining the national pokedex from Gens 1-4, I'll transfer the pokemon who are the top of their evoltionary chain [i.e. Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Rhyperior] and breed them to obtain the other forms. I'll do that after I catch every single Gen. 5 pokemon available, and transfer my pokemon from Pokemon Black as well.

MistahDude June 28th, 2010 3:24 PM

I am going to catch every pokemon I see now. Not for completion, but because they are really interesting.

BakingBluePotatoe June 28th, 2010 3:31 PM

I'm going to import white, then get either Black in english, or wait for the 3rd version!

as for my starter... I may play twice.. once with Mijumaru and once with Tsutaja!

luigimario94 June 28th, 2010 4:02 PM

I'm gonna wait till the Japanese games come out and look at all the Pokemon. Once I do that, I will pick a team of 5 . (I always use the Fire starter :P)

tangvor June 28th, 2010 7:00 PM

Well I PLAN on trying out all the starters and hopefully catching all the pokemon I run across to have a diverse team and refrain from legendary usage.
However, I will probably go as deep as possible into the game as usual and get the best non-legendary pokemon possible super EV train them and then blow the game in half (not literally).

dieter57 June 28th, 2010 7:32 PM

i'll probably play through and get the pokemon that are the best to beat the next gym.
capture Zekrom and train him to level 57 or so.
then train one at a time so i can destroy each member with a single pokemon each!

WindBlows June 28th, 2010 7:45 PM

I'll play the English Version with my DSi, use my fingers to push bottons and my brain to go through the game.

Cherrim June 29th, 2010 6:50 AM

I rarely attempt EV training or nature-breeding (or catching for nature) in any game, but in the first game of a gen, I don't bother with it at all. :x I want my first playthrough to be purely for fun, discovering new things about the area and learning the new Pokémon. My second playthrough can be a little more competitive-oriented, but the first time should be pure. :>

BeachBoy June 29th, 2010 9:46 PM

Just for fun. I'll catch what I see and play with what I've got, I'll take it slow (my game completion times always run past 70 or so hours to E4), and I'll enjoy it. Ya'know, savor the flavor. Nothing competitive or crazy, just fun.

Hyrukiller June 29th, 2010 10:56 PM

I will just use Zorua, the three starters, an Espeon, from my soul silver, an a new pokemon humanoid form that evolves twice from the 5th generation. An yeap, my extra team for catching legendaries (always with new members) to use surf, fly, etc.

loliwin June 29th, 2010 11:52 PM

Sloooowwww and stteeeaaddddyyy. Then when I finish the game I go full on hardocre with my pokemon.

xxChazxx June 30th, 2010 3:41 AM

Like I played all of the others:

- I will make a balanced team of the major types and one minor type.
- I will catch the Pokemon I come across and add them to my Pokedex.
- I will generally not take most of them out of the PC, but sometimes I will train them for evolution.
- After I conquer the gyms, I will try to make another team out of Pokemon I have in my PC boxes, now that I know how most of them work for the most part.

- I will then play through again and challenge myself to form new teams and learn how to battle with different Pokemon.

Lickitricky June 30th, 2010 3:55 AM

i sometimes buy the guides to see which ones are worth keeping lmao. but usually i just look at the ones that appeal the most to me: if a Pokemon, even if it considered weak, is appealing to you and you like it alot, youll eventually find a moveset or strategy for it thatll work well (a.k.a PWNZ EVERYTHING >.<)

Charizard★ June 30th, 2010 5:04 AM

I'm going to beat all the gyms, the Elite 4 and then try to collect all the Pokemon after. Like I always do.

Charizard★ June 30th, 2010 6:08 AM

I'm going to get all the badges, beat the Elite 4 then I'll start Ev'ing like I always do :3

xxChazxx June 30th, 2010 8:50 AM

Fun, of course!

Why play a game if you're not having fun?

SIN1488 June 30th, 2010 8:53 AM

I will just play through and have fun with it, and also try out the different new pokemon to get a feel for them. Then I will EV train the ones I like after I'm done with the game.
