Has anyone gotten a shiny through breeding?

So, apparently your chances of breeding a shiny improve if you breed with a Pokémon from another country. Naturally, I decided to do a GTS trade for a Ditto and lucked out by getting one from Australia.

It feels like I've made eleventygazillionflajillion eggs, but no shinies. :'(

Anybody breed any shinies yet? If so, what did you get and what Pokémon did you use to breed it. Feel free to let us know about how many eggs you had to hatch before getting a shiny, too!

Dark Nebula June 23rd, 2010 5:28 PM

I wouldn't believe that to be true.

gw June 23rd, 2010 5:37 PM

Nope…. never. But if ever does to me I would get a heart attack first and yell at everybody in heaven
Like this “ I finally got my shiny Pichu!!!!” lol.
Not man, I rather slaughter hundreds of wild Pokémon until I find the shine I like than running back and ford, back and ford……..wait I think it’s the same thing.

Weavile05 June 23rd, 2010 6:02 PM

nope, but I'm hoping to get one when I breed my meganium (I've just completely screwed it up, and now it's pretty much unfixable, so I'm using my current meganium as an hm slave.

Weavile05 June 23rd, 2010 6:47 PM

dang, that is dedication, 200-300? Does anyone have either a foreign female meganium or a foreign ditto?

Totally true. It even says so in the official strat guide.

The chances are 1/2,064 if you breed with a Pokémon traded from a game in a different country, 2/65,025 otherwise.

Ryuzaki_Lawliet June 23rd, 2010 9:42 PM

^ Would there by chance be an online stat guide?

brownkidd June 23rd, 2010 10:56 PM

Yeah, an unofficial one like on GameFaqs or something. In either Vol. 1 or 2 of the guides, there's a page about Pokérus and Shinies and it doesn't give the actual ratios, but it says that it's easier to breed shinies with a Pokémon you got in a trade from a different country. No clue who figured out the ratios, but they've been verified by several different sites.

tetrix1993 June 24th, 2010 3:55 AM

Well... there is a 1/8192 chance of getting a Shiny Pokémon in the wild. But it would be even much difficult to get the Shinies from breeding, since you have to walk to hatch it...

An Imperialist named Dak June 24th, 2010 5:00 AM

I got a Shiny Bagon on the second egg.

Eurydice June 24th, 2010 7:59 AM

i breed a shiny bronzor on my diamond game but none so far on my soulsilver game.

Like a foreign ditto & an american pokemon? Or both foreign?

Setosama June 24th, 2010 4:23 PM

I'm trying to get a Shiny Charmander... Tried getting a Chimchar and a Pichu before that... Gone through over 3 boxes... I'VE GOTTEN POKEMON WITH MULTIPLE MAX STATS but NO SHINIES!!! WTF?!

Just one of them needs to be foreign.

Foreign doesn't mean not American, it means not from your country.

You need one Pokémon from your country, and one Pokémon from any other country.

shookie June 24th, 2010 5:33 PM

It's a 1/8192 chance to encounter a shiny, including hatching one. With the Masuda Method it's down to a 1/2048 chance of hatching a shiny.

3 PC boxes is only 90 Pokémon. People have gone through 11 boxes (330 Pokémon), released all of those, and then gone through another 330 before seeing a shiny. You really need to have more patience than that to try the Masuda Method.

uillian June 24th, 2010 5:40 PM

Nah U need lotsa luck, But if I did I could finish breaking the PC in excitement. And Someone would have to save my cat. :)

StarryLatiasGirl June 24th, 2010 6:25 PM

I eventually hatched a couple shinies by trading over the GTS for a Japanese Ditto. I got 3 shiny Eevees that way (2 male, 1 female), even though it filled most of my boxes with unneeded Eevees. XD

What does the Pokemon being foreign have to do with anything?

Ravecat June 24th, 2010 7:45 PM

It just makes the likelihood of a shiny being bred much higher, there is no other reason.

Azure-Supernova June 25th, 2010 6:16 AM

I've got a Shiny Eevee sitting unused in my PC box. I mentioned to a friend of mine that it took me 12 eggs to breed a female Eevee, so he asks me if I wouldn't mind breeding him one because he's just too lazy for it. So he tells his little bro and he wants one too (because apparently Espeon just looks too femenine to be male). So within a week I'm being asked to accumulate 9 female Eevees. One week, 58 unhatched Eevee eggs, 40+ male Eevees released and 8 female Eevees later... the 9th female happens to also be a shiny... cha-ching...

msdmario June 25th, 2010 8:38 AM

I got a shiny Scyther when I was breeding for an Adamant one in Platinum. I was shocked when I saw a darker green Scyther hatch out of the egg. That was my first and only shiny that I hatched.

Wichu June 25th, 2010 8:51 AM

'Foreign' means different language. Sorry to say this, but breeding an Australian Ditto with a UK/US Pokémon won't increase your chance of hatching a shiny, as they're all English-language. You want something like a French or Japanese Ditto.

o-/< <- this is Bob June 25th, 2010 8:55 AM

Nope. But my friend manged a shiny Pichu after hatching about 50 eggs. :P

The official guide says it'll increase your chances as long as you breed with a pokemon traded from another country.
