Ononokusu is not a mantis!

Ononokusu is not a Mantis! He doesn't even remotely resemble a mantis! I don't know why tons of people and even Serebii think so.

They look nothing alike!

dieter57 June 28th, 2010 5:28 PM

a bug-dragon type would be awesome :D

Calder June 28th, 2010 5:54 PM

Maybe it could be a Fighting/Dragon type that some people wanted before... I don't see the mantis at all either I think it is a Dragon with an axe on its head.

shookie June 28th, 2010 5:54 PM

Of course it isn't a mantis. It's a Pokémon.

Pikachu is called the "Mouse Pokémon." Does it look like a mouse? No, it looks like a Pikachu.

Exactly!
I can't stand when people say "I can't even tell what it is!" It's obvious what it is, it's a Pokemon!

Nah. Its name has Fear in it according to Pokebeach.

But as the other person said pokemon are pokemon.

Jaiyke June 28th, 2010 7:10 PM

who honestly cares what it's based on?..
i just LIKE it >=O
but i sense a Front Row Seat for the Over-Used Community for it =\

pichuspark June 28th, 2010 7:24 PM

Thank you!! Dragon-Axe is NOT a mantis! Although it looks Rock/Dragon or Bug/Dragon to me...or Bug/Steel if Game Freak wants to toy with the community :/

IT IS MANTIS. DUHHHH.

(Sooooorryyyyy if I was harsh, but it IS....)

That isnt official. Mantis isnt in his name. Serebii just had bad vision and called it a Mantis even though it shares NO features with a Mantis.

Phantom Poodle June 28th, 2010 8:26 PM

Honestly based on the blurry sprite from a video I can't really tell what it looks like.

Or at least not enough to assess whether it looks like a mantis or a dinosaur. :/

I'mma wait for muh Sugimori artz.

Dillon_68 June 28th, 2010 8:40 PM

It's not a mantis, case closed. People are just trying to find an excuse to make the rumors about a new mantis Pokemon come true.

PiPVoda June 28th, 2010 9:04 PM

The shape of its head, and its stance do resemble the mantis. Well before you get all up in my grill, to ME it does. Idk why I see a resemblance, but other than that they look nothing alike. Some people call it a mantis, well maybe they have reasoning too. Some pokemon look nothing like the animals they're based off of, and we can't say it is or isn't a mantis until we have more info on it.

So just b/c we already have a mantis pokemon that means there shouldn't be anymore? The reason that there are diff. fish is because there are soo many species of fish on Earth to render them after.

Thats exactly what I said... They usually don't repeat... Thanks for repeating me and everything :) I'm saying its not likely a mantis because of Scyther being the Mantis and because it looks nothing like a mantis...

PiPVoda June 28th, 2010 9:17 PM

^^^ Well I didn't mean to repeat what you said :D, but did you read my first post in this thread? How some pokemon look nothing like the animals they're based off of, however at the same time ononokusu's head/stance do resemble a mantis's in a way? There are over 2,000 species of mantis so like I said nobody knows if it is one or not till we hear more info on it.

Where is the word Mantis at in its name exactly? I thought Mantis was like Kamikiri in Japanese... and isn't Fear like Osore? I forget...

Exactly it looks pretty good... Maybe it will be Steel/Dragon since we only have a Legend one of those... Bug/Dragon or Fighting/Dragon would be cool too...

Dude.... Common sense.
It wasn't Serebii OR pokemon sunday that named it the mantis-like pokemon, or drew the sprite, okay?
The POKEMON company made it that way.
And i'll bet you that's the way it'll be in the pokedex.

Ononokusu,
The mantis-like pokemon.

How do you guys not see the claws, the head, and the mantis!?

Dude sorry but I don't see it at all... I just see a cool looking dragon with an axe on its head...

Ononokusu could be the Axehead Dragon Pokemon too you know...

To get this straight, it's NOT the mole-pokemon with the giant claw thing next to it's head.

http://i993.photobucket.com/albums/af53/aurawave/duh.png

NOW how can you NOT see the mantis....?!

The pokemon company never said it was a mantis. People started saying it looked like a mantis, which is does not. I even put it side by side with an actual Mantis and it shared no similarities.

If you do think its a Mantis:
Since when did a Mantis have claws or fangs?
Since when did a Mantis have a slender head?
Since when did a Mantis have a curved tail?
Since when did a Mantis have a Dinosaur body?

It has short and stubby arms, which makes me think Ononokusu is a Raptor of some sort.

Calder June 28th, 2010 9:36 PM

Yeah I think it is a reptile it looks like a freaking lizard with an axe on it... regardless I'm using him he looks so badass xD

Just because it is a mutant mantis pokemon doesn't mean that it can't be some sort of unique, blurry, sprited mantis!

A mantis has scythes, not claws! A mantis has a very stick like body and a very small sized head. Dinosaurs usually have large bodies, long tails, fangs, claws and slender heads. Insects have some sort of abdomen, Dinosaurs do not. A mantis has wings, Dinosaurs do not.

Here is a picture of Ononokusu compared to the Scyther (the Mantis Pokemon):

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/4273/11571341m.jpghttp://www.legendarypokemon.net/images/dp_artwork/123.png

See how scyther and ononokusu look nothing alike?

Meaning of Ononokusu's name:
Ono - axe, hatchet
no - can be a possessive term?
ku - 9?
su - nest

The "ono" and "su" seem to be accurate to the creature, but I couldn't make sense of the interior of the term. Then I tried "noku", which came to mean "to get out of the way".

If you think a Dinosaur with an Axe on his head looks like a Bug you may be high on crack.
