Gotta catch'em all

So, since genI, Game freak made this sentence the slogan of pokemon...
However in games, completing the pokedex gave you a special...certificate:\.
I can understand it in the first two gen, were finishing it was easier, but genIII and genIV were more difficult even with the help of GTS.
GenV will be even harder, so who think that they should reward us with somethimg better?

I would love a special area you can find pokemon with special moveset or something similar...
What do you think of the certificate? Do you like it?Do you wwant something different?

HugSomebody July 7th, 2010 9:34 AM

I would not be motivated to finish the PokeDex if all I got was a....certificate. xD;; Maybe there could be some exclusive Pokemon let loose if you did finish the PokeDex? But at the same time, this can't really work because you would have needed to catch the exclusive Pokemon to finish the Dex in the first place.

Maybe you could be rewarded with a new area like you suggested? I'd like that.

n64benowitz177 July 7th, 2010 9:47 AM

I think your idea would work, but you would gain access to the new area when you've hit a certain mark of caught pokemon and in this new area only the best pokemon catchers can access allowing you to finish it up or something like that.

Mujahid July 7th, 2010 9:53 AM

Yea i remember when i first completed my dex and all i got was a certificate !!....R U SERIOUS ??!!....we sure do need something better....New area idea is gud ...I always thought that we should get a "special" mew/jirachi after completing the dex....With (nearly)Perfect IVs/Special moves ????

Storm_has_formed July 7th, 2010 9:54 AM

i have never attempted to finish my pokedex, and the reward makes me even less interested...

Myles July 7th, 2010 10:01 AM

It's been said that it's because it's an insanely difficult task that requires tons of games, so giving anything too significant wouldn't be fair on everybody. They could maybe unlock a special move tutor that allows certain moves (that are not TMs or move tutor moves) to be given to a larger number of Pokemon.

...Until the 3rd generation, when the slogan was completely dropped. Game Freak didn't even come up with that slogan either, it's an English slogan that was made up by PUSA. Game Freak's slogan is the Japanese one, which I believe is simply, "Get Pokemon".

Notice how the slogan is on Crystal, but not Ruby.

Anyways, I think that we should get something along the lines of unlockable PC box backgrounds, some strong trainers to fight, some new move tutors etc.

Jerme July 7th, 2010 11:50 AM

how about once you get all, every single pokemon is encounterable in the wild (cept legends). good for training....imagine a wild lv.56 garchomp

might as well. you already have all pokemon so what harm would it do

I think the exclusive pokemon is a good idea. After you finish the dex the professor calls you up and explains that a new pokemon (or what the expect is a new pokemon) has been sited and then asks you to go check it out.

That seems like the best idea so far

I've never completed my pokedex... ever. There are just too many, and most I can't get. A lousy piece of paper (thats not even printed on anything) is a silly reward. I think special moves or something... Maybe a rare item?

WarpstarX July 8th, 2010 2:07 PM

I'm not gonna try mainly because 1. I don't care 2. I'm too damn lazy.

Azure-Supernova July 8th, 2010 2:24 PM

I'd like Game Freak to send me a real Certificate. Lots and praise and ego boosts scrawled all over it... I'd complete the Pokédex for that. The I'd frame it and hand it on the wall behind my bed, probably mention it in my CV too.

I agree with your logic. I'll put it on mine, who wouldn't want to hire a Pokémon Master?

New areas of the game map seems like a good idea to me. With a new move tutor or whatever they want to put there.

The thing is, getting all those Pokemon to one game will take time also.

Azure-Supernova July 8th, 2010 2:40 PM

In all seriousness... how about just bumping up the levels of wilds and releasing some of the rarer types? Maybe they hold the Pokéradar from us and give it to us as a gift for beating the Dex, slightly more encouragement.

Oooh ooh, instead of my stupid Pokéradar idea, how about just a radar upgrade which allows you to refine your search in the grass.

Charizard★ July 8th, 2010 3:11 PM

I would prefer something better then a certificate :/ But oh well, what can you do? :D

NiKaNoRoU July 8th, 2010 3:50 PM

I don't understand why you guys even need a reward for that. What can be better than claiming to be a Pokemon Master? Are you collecting pokemon just for a reward?
I expected more. And if you're a hardcore fan, wouldn't getting more slots to fill up per gen become just a bigger challenge?

It's not necessary, but it would still be nice to get a little reward. All the ideas in this thread are pretty good. When you complete especially difficult challenges in other games you end up with something like an unlockable character, a rare item, etc. I don't see why Pokemon can't be the same. I'm sure anybody who's done this can agree that completing the national dex is a very difficult task.

idk, because people like some sort of reward for the sheer amount of hours/weeks/months/money (if you buy more than one game cartridge) to "catch 'em all"? I mean, it's such a large effort, and it's going to be even larger, that just a pixelated certificate that doesn't say much (and I don't believe you can view again) doesn't cut it.

I haven't completed the Pokedex since the Blue version, since the reward wasn't great. If there's a reward that I would like to see, it's allowing stronger Pokemon in the wild.

Actually, I'd just enjoy any reward that's better than a one-time-certificate, really.

Oh my god that would be so great. I would show it off so much :p

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire July 8th, 2010 8:31 PM

I wish the certificate could be hung up in your house atleast...other than that I'm fine without any reward other then the star to your trainer card :)

Volroc July 8th, 2010 8:32 PM

i miss the slogan :(

i say the radar upgrade would be nice, then it wouldnt break randomly when i get to 21on my krabby chain& im so close to gettin my legit shiny T^T
---------------
id like it were you got access to an island, thats not on the map,but in the game, and its like Jurassic Park
just like how Jurassic Park had genetically Altered Dinosaurs
the Pokemon are altered to have attacks they dont usually have ;)
like how Phanpy used to get Water Gun, or the baby pokemon egg in Crystal could get Dizzy Punch ^_^
and you could catch things like Garchomp, Aggron, Salamence, Golem, Flygon, Slaking, exc. ^_^
and the special moves would only be passed down threw those altered pokemon& a female,or a ditto ^_^

Well, can't say a reward would dissapoint me xD

Just saying that in my opinion, no reward at all or 'just a certificate' wouldn't bother me, as I never stood up to completing the pokedex for such a reason.
