"What's for lunch?" "Your MOM!"

It's not just my little corner of the world experiencing the overuse of "your mom", I'm sure.
Sometimes it's genuinely funny, but in the hands of a noob it's just annoying.
Has anybody ever used it themselves? Like it? Hate it? Got a story? Or an annoying friend who uses it too much?

You know who else uses it too much? Your mom.

Spinor July 7th, 2010 8:52 AM

My previous school year, "That's what she said" was more in than "Your Mom", but my Algebra teacher did overuse it a tad the two years I had him >_>'....

No seriously, school teachers did like to use that. Probably I wasn't in the only school like that.

HugSomebody July 7th, 2010 8:52 AM

Your mother used to be quite funny at first, but now I don't find her comical at all!

People say this all the time at school. It's either "Your mom!" or "Your face!" if you can't come up with a good enough comeback to something. I personally find the phrase weak. What does my mom or your mom or your friend's mom have to do with the conversation? ;P

Citrinin July 7th, 2010 9:02 AM

Catch-all responses like this have never been clever or funny to me. Sometimes the people start up with these sayings, but it doesn't take long for them to get bored and get back to normal. Although, I've found that replying with "Your dad!" when someone says "Your mum!" has a somewhat jarring effect on people the first time around. o.o;

Alyssachu July 7th, 2010 9:30 AM

I use it... But I use it normally to make fun of the people who use it. It's a silly saying, but it definitely IS over-used. Just like "that's what she said", "epic fail!", etc., which reallyyyy bothers me. Jokes and sayings are funny the first few times you hear them, but after that... God, it gets wayyy too old.

KanadeTenshi July 7th, 2010 9:33 AM

I curse a lot in school. Mostly because people sometimes won't leave me alone. Or they annoy me. Or they just deserve it. Or they're perverts.

I probably got off topic, I do use your mom, but I also use other way more inappropriate words.

shot571 July 7th, 2010 10:28 AM

Na people calm down after a while. I mean up till year 9 it was pretty freqeunt especially year 7 then people slowly stopped now I barely hear stuff like that.

Magmarizer July 7th, 2010 11:35 AM

Im not very clever with come backs, so i think i overuse "what ever, shut up!" to much or your mom.

And i always think to say "thats what she said" a half second to late.

donavannj July 7th, 2010 12:00 PM

I use it to tease my friends when I'm bored and they set themselves up for it. XD;

Other than that, though, it's pretty annoying.

Rich Boy Rob July 7th, 2010 1:30 PM

"That's what she said!" is used more than "Your Mum!" here. Funniness really depends on the situation.
I find "That's what she said!" to be more funny for the most part, but again it depends on the context.

TheReal July 7th, 2010 1:37 PM

Do you know who doesn't aprove this thread? Your mom!

I only use it in smart situations, where I know that it would be funny. Also, in portuguese sounds funnier.

loliwin July 7th, 2010 4:40 PM

I use it. XD

There is a time when you run out of things or comebacks to say. Well there is only one hope.

Ichigo_Kurosaki July 7th, 2010 10:04 PM

In my class we say (imagine it in a jamaican accent) "ya mammy, sissa, uncle, neighba, dog, master, girlfriend, landlord" or something like that. it sounds stupid now but during class its really funny.

Guillermo July 7th, 2010 10:34 PM

No one at my school uses it in fear that someone they say it to is someone who's mother has died. I'd never say something so idiotic.

EpsilonE July 8th, 2010 1:14 AM

I use them perfectly because I actually have social skills

Saltare. July 8th, 2010 8:05 AM

I hate when people do that.

"What's up?" "Your mom!" -_-

Seriously? Why is that funny?

Then sometimes if you're talking to someone they'll scream really loud "NO! I will not take off my pants!"

Charizard★ July 8th, 2010 8:37 AM

Kids in my school used to say "Thats what she said" and a bunch of other things. It got so annoying though. I mean seriously, they acted like a bunch of 5 yr olds.

Eurydice July 8th, 2010 9:41 AM

i dont think i have ever used it. i know people at my school did all the time but i never talked during school. plus i think sayings like that are really stupid and immature.

Numbers July 8th, 2010 10:56 AM

Saying "Your mum" used to be big where I'm from but recently not that many people use it. Scottish people already have so many unique insulting phrases so the "thing" to say changes like the weather haha.

My brother used to say it a lot though, I asked him once what he was doing and he quickly replied with "your mum" ... He then realised who he had said it to and has never used the phrase since. Haha.

Zebeedoo July 8th, 2010 1:02 PM

...it annoys the heck out of me when people use it. :/ It's just stupid. Some people might find it offensive too. Like me. It's just awkward in my opinion.

Legobricks July 8th, 2010 1:12 PM

I never really come across the phrase, at least not directed at me.
I never understood it — why would someone want to screw my mother (the most common way this is played)? That just makes them laughable for having a thing for older (wo)men; no offence to anyone with such preferences but it's like homosexuality — something your average hip teenager finds undesirable even in our current age of tolerance, so why they often imply they are a sexual deviant seems... odd.

Oh, necrophillia, even more self-demeaning.

Luck July 8th, 2010 6:55 PM

Your mom is harder to pull of than the aristocrats nowadays. That's a shame, because it could actually be funny in some cases, although undoubtedly inferior to "that's what she said".

Haha, a guy on a pokemon forum with social skills, that's rich.

Katie_Q July 8th, 2010 7:23 PM

It's not used to much here, only sometimes. It's usually pretty funny, except the time when my friend said it to one of her friends.
Her friend: whats on your pizza?
Friend: ya mum!
Her friends mum had passed, and she was kind of sensitive to it.

JadedIguana July 8th, 2010 9:47 PM

So far, I've only used "your mom." when it was a good answer. It's common though, since a friend of mine has a mother that's just, awful. "Who would do anything like that?" "Your Mom." "Ohyeah."

♣Gawain♣ July 9th, 2010 3:22 AM

Never thought that the phrase "Your Mom" could be used in a comical way. And I never used that before...

TwinkleClefable July 9th, 2010 3:26 AM

I say it sometimes. Always makes me laugh somehow.

Uecil July 9th, 2010 3:54 AM

That saying is so old... I bet even my parents used that phrase when they were my age. I have heard that phrase being used so many times it annoys me, I've used it once.
I just don't get what's so funny about saying 'your mum' to people either. >B|
I remember someone using it on me before.
Me: Hi, do you know what lesson we have next?
Person: Your Mum.
Me: WTF?! *turns away*

Captain Fabio July 9th, 2010 5:21 AM

I say it when I am too lazy to come up with an actual reply or if they are completely stupid! XD

Mum jokes are amazing to a point.

Jolene July 9th, 2010 5:27 AM

Hmm no I have never said it.

Oh, necrophillia, even more self-demeaning.

Because older women are generally more hot than most teenage girls. I know 99% of this forum would prefer a loli or whatevs to their best friends mum, but not me.

Now, no. What if someone's mom died? Yeah, thats a problem. Besides, I think it's pretty lame anyway. .___.

Do you know what else is lame? Your mum...

...

Just joking. xD Yeah, its overused a lot where I live, along with "thats what she said"... Sometimes, it can be really funny and can make me laugh. :) But other times, it just isn't funny... :\ And incredibly unneccesary. :\

Blue Nocturne July 9th, 2010 1:13 PM

I never use it. It's tired and means nothing quite frankly. If I'm going to insult someone, I would insult THEM, and do it using more than with a mere similie or bad joke. Don't get me wrong, some your mum jokes are fantastic, but why direct it to the mum? Just go straight to the dude your insulting, what does the mum have to do with it?

Everlark July 10th, 2010 12:57 AM

I still use it, but I'm trying to cute back on it. I've run into too many situations where I say it to someone who doesn't have a mom anymore. And that makes me feel bad.

Dawn July 10th, 2010 1:19 AM

I personally think yo mama is pretty funny.

But looks aren't everyth-*YELLOW IS BRICKED*

wobbadude1 July 10th, 2010 11:07 AM

My friends and myself do use it in an ironic way. It is funny cos it's only two words and it can be interpreted as an insult. There are also friendly insults "So...how's your Mum"?

Blaze The Hedgehog July 10th, 2010 11:14 AM

Your momma is so hairy, the only language she can speak is wookie.

See what I did there?

Possibly the worst fad ever.

Shake July 10th, 2010 12:42 PM

"What are you doing?"

"Your Mom!"
~classic

twocows July 10th, 2010 1:01 PM

I might use it if it fits perfectly or if the timing's perfect (like, if someone's expecting a really serious answer). Otherwise, not really.

OokamiShipper July 11th, 2010 9:36 AM

It's not funny for me...not particularly, it's just overused.
So are the "that's what she said" jokes.

Maverick Hunter Zero July 11th, 2010 4:22 PM

My friends and I had perfected the "Your mom" down to an art. Usually, when someone would answer with "your mom", it would begin a really long chain of mother jokes until one of us just couldn't take it anymore and were either laughing too hard or were too grossed out.

I personally use "Why it's your mother Steve! GET THE AXE!!!" instead of just plain old "your mom" now a days.

ReyRey-Pyon July 12th, 2010 2:37 PM

I couldn't care less when people say "Your Mom"

but it irritates me when people say "That's what she said."
because I know she's a good girl and would never say such things D:

Aquerex July 12th, 2010 5:59 PM

I HATE THAT. People say that when it has nothing to do with the conversation and put it in places where it makes no sense.

"What time is it?"
"YOUR MOM!"
"O_o' Seriously, what time is it?"
"YOUR MOM!"
"Great. Now what's the time?"
"YOUR MOM!"

Melody July 12th, 2010 7:12 PM

Is it just me, or is this phrase so damn overused that even when my best friend uses it, I just wanna punch them in the face on the spot. It's so damn annoying, weak, immature and stupid. Geez, it just peeves me off.

Sheesh, if you can't come up with something witty to say, then shut the hell up and admit you lost

Jeremy July 13th, 2010 6:48 PM

Well sweeties, were I come from "thems fight'n werds!" Seriously, in High School a lot of fights broke out because somebody scream "yo mama" as a retort. I would be lying if I said I never punch a guy in a face for saying "your mom" to me as a joke. Long story, short, my friends and I take it personally. XD

Amaruuk July 13th, 2010 7:24 PM

Personally I hate both those phrases. They're irritating, overused, and not clever or funny at all. Makes people sound like immature little pricks if you ask me. Luckily I don't hear either of them as much as I'm long past high school and I never watch crappy comedy movies that glorify that witless, tasteless 'humor'.

Also, insulting people is a waste of words.

Gymnotide July 13th, 2010 7:34 PM

This thread? Yer mum.

Really, don't tempt me :( The first thing I thought to write here without even reading the ITT was to shout YER MUM before you even said anything. Then I realized it wasn't real life.

sonic smash down July 13th, 2010 8:32 PM

the classic "ur mom" joke huh?

its not really used much as an insult rather then just to mess with your friend kind of thing where i am, and usually everyone laughs it off including the person its directed to....that or it starts a (your mom is so....) battle. Anyways its not really used as much as "thats what she said", which i can't get my friend to stop sayin...my question is:
Who is she, and why does she keep saying such things? XD
Yea i use it sometimes but they do getting really annoying if they get over-used (once or twice is fine, but 4 times thats enough dude, get yourself a new joke book)

wobbadude1 July 14th, 2010 2:48 AM

Did you know the very first "Your Mum" joke came from Shakespear:

Act 1 Scene 1 of Timon of Athens
Painter: "Y'are a dog."
Apemantus: "Thy mother's of my generation. What's she, if I be a dog?"

Scene 2 of Titus Adronicus
Demetrius: "Villain, what hast thou done?"
Aaron: "That which thou canst not undo."
Chiron: "Thou hast undone our mother."
Aaron: "Villain, I have done thy mother."

Proving "Your Mum" jokes are NOT a recent thing and can be quite witty. Shakespear is one of the most famous writers of all time!!

lol Shakespeare has provided lots of things that are still used today. Even my name(my real name) was first seen in a Shakespeare play.
Shakespeare ftw! ;3

Anyways I'm getting off topic... My school majorly overuses "your mom", "your face", and "that's what she said". I get really annoyed when people randomly throw them out there. I probably couldn't go a day without getting either at least eight times, most of the time it's not even used in funny situations. Ocassionally someone will use it at the perfect time and it'll be funny enough to put tears in your eyes but other then those moments I'm kinda fed up with hearing them.

~Pixelfied

BareBones July 15th, 2010 8:27 AM

I just use it as a joke, and very rarely infront of other people. I use it when I'm bored and I really can't think of a witty response.

"Where did you get that sword?"
"Your mother"
"What?"
"You heard me"

Or

"Who wants to come to VoA then?"
"Your mother, I heard she wants to go"
"F4. Just F4 right now"
"I F4'd your mom last night"

And yes, they were WoW referances.
Yeah, your mom jokes are very overused, but as I said, I don't use them in real life, I mostly use them over the internet for cheap laughs.

Percy Thrillington July 15th, 2010 9:14 AM

I don't use them. Ever. Don't see them much online, but they're not uncommon in my school. Overused and unfunny makes perfect humour.

Warcraft Win.

Me and my mate used in nearly every sentence for the whole of middle school, then we said that we HAD to stop before we just became completely unlikeable and tasteless.

It's like proposing marriage. If the time is right, and you can pull it off, it's magical. but if the time isn't right and you say it to the wrong person, you will regret it (probably). and if you keep saying it it's just weird.

xPsychosocial July 16th, 2010 1:39 PM

I hear them all the time, I've had them used against me a lot. :P Me and my friends use them on each other all the time, other than that I avoid it.

♥Sweetheart™ July 16th, 2010 2:25 PM

I overuse your mom (even though I'm not american and we say mum in New Zealand), epic, and fail.

& your mom epically fails.

oh gawd, I'm so uncoooool.

I try not to say it anymore.
