Ice, Ghost and Fire types!

These are some of the most under used types (meaning, we dont have a lot. We need more.

Kanto was good to fire. We got Charizard, Rapidash, Ninetales, Magmar, Arcanine, Flareon, and Moltres. Johto we got Magby, TYphlosion and Macgargo, Entei and Ho-oh. Hoenn got Blaziken, Torkoal and Camerupt. Sinnoh gave us Infernape, Heatran and Magmortar. I feel like were getting less and less each region.

For Ice, Kantop gave us Dewgong, Cloyster, Jynx, Lapras, and Articuno. not bad. Johto gave us a few, Piloswine, Sneasel, and Delibird. Hoenn was pretty good for ice and gave us Glalie, Regice and Walrein. Sinnoh was equally as good and gave us Glaceon, Mamoswine, Froslass and Abomasnow. Ice is getting pokemon at a steady rate, however that rate is 2-5 pokemon a region.

Kanto gave us Gengar for ghosts. Johto gave us Misdreavus. Hoenn gave us thhe largest amount yet with Sableye, Banette, and Dusclops. Sinnoh gave us relatuvely the same as Hoenn with Dusknoir, Rotom, Froslass, Spiritomb, and Drifblim. Ghosts are increasing, which is good. Let's hope it stays this way.

Anyone agree that we need more of these types?

luigimario94 July 15th, 2010 6:59 AM

I want a Ghost/Fire that is a spirit made of fire.

JP July 15th, 2010 7:19 AM

I'm hoping we see a good amount of Fire and Ghost types. Ice types... not so much considering the region doesn't look all that "cold", but I wouldn't mind it.

Kanto_Johto July 15th, 2010 7:38 AM

I don't really care for Ice types all that much. Most Water types can learn Ice type attacks.

Is that all Sinnoh gave to Fire? They might as well have just abandoned the type all together, barring Infernape's evolution line. We could have managed without Magmorter and Heatran is one of the most disgraceful Pokemon I've ever seen. But yeah, they should consider more fire types for this Generation. But so far we have Pokabu and that fire ape thing, so it's looking up.

The Ghost type I personally don't really care for all that much, considering I hardly ever use them.

Everyone forgets Shedinja. Why? It's one of my favorite Pokemon...

We don't need many more fire types, we've a lot. Ghost-types and Ice-types, definitely yes.

Also, the word you're looking for by saying "under used types" may be under utilized.

I wouldn't use either term.

To be quite frank, I don't think it's realistic for a balance in the quantity of types in the series. Logically, types such as Ground, Water, Grass, Bug etc would outnumber others which is exactly the trend that Nintendo has been following.

Weavile05 July 15th, 2010 8:26 AM

ghosts are pretty rare, which once I think about it, that's probably how it should be. The only ice type I want is an ice steel, that would be the ultmate counter to dragons! then again, almost all of them can learn fire type moves, which that poke would be 4x weak too...

Blueknight July 15th, 2010 9:04 AM

I would like a decent Ice type pokemon. They are personally my favorite type. Ice types are often overshadowed because of their 4 weaknesses and one resistance. I would like something like froslass, except for better offensive stats. An Ice/Steel type would be good if it had solid rock as a ability. The only decent typings with Ice would be:
-Dragon/Ice
-Ice/Electric
-Ice/Ghost

Ghost types need to be paired up with more types like steel, rock, and water.

I think we have a lot of fire types, but sinnoh and Hoenn didn't add that much.

Weavile05 July 15th, 2010 9:12 AM

we need more ice types with speed like Weavile.
the only other ice type I can think of with that speed is Froslass. and Arcues holding the icicle plate, but I don't count that one.

Froslass is even then only a possibility, I don't really know what it's speed is, but I imagine it's pretty fast.

Timbjerr July 15th, 2010 9:14 AM

I'd like to see a Fire/Ghost willowisp pokemon...more for the execution of the concept than for anything particularly beneficial about the typing, but still... XD

For a good battle pokemon, I'd like a bulky Ice/Rock for both Sandstorm and Hail support. :P

Gymnotide July 15th, 2010 9:16 AM

Haha In Diamond / Pearl the only wild Fire-type you could catch before the E4 was Ponyta.
They added a few in Platinum, but Fire was still a pretty under-represented type in G4 :)

Weavile05 July 15th, 2010 9:20 AM

yeah, if you needed a fire type in DP you pretty much had to pick Chimchar (it's waaaaaaay better than ponyta)!

Kirbychu July 15th, 2010 9:55 AM

Don't forget Electric, we need a lot more of those too.

Nikorasu July 15th, 2010 10:12 AM

The less there are, the better they are.

Not all dragons are weak to Ice and most if not all dragons can learn fire and ground moves.

n64benowitz177 July 15th, 2010 11:10 AM

We seriously need more fire types, Because in Diamond and Pearl if you didn't take Internape you almost had to catch a Ponyta in order to have a fire type. Since it was the only one available.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire July 15th, 2010 11:15 AM

Actually we have two fire pokemon and one fire legendary so far those being: Pokabu's, Rashiram, and the fire ape. So far its going up for fire, though the amount matches that of sinnoh's fire pokemon though I hope there will be more.

Magby is there if you have your LeafGreen in the slot.

OT, I could always use more Ghosts (give Gengar a rest for once). Dual-typing would be much appreciated.

Dominus Temporis July 15th, 2010 1:11 PM

I did a little math, and there are 35 Pokemon out of the 493 from Gens I-IV. That's around 7%. In comparison, Water, the most abundant type, has 93 Pokemon, or about 19%. So while I think the rarity of various types makes a bit of sense ecologically speaking (Dragon and Ghost are the rarest types, by the way), I do think they could add one or two new families in Gen V without going overboard. I like Pokabu and Reshiram, don't get me wrong. But Hihidaruma is pretty cool, and it's neither starter nor legendary, so I want to see what other Fire-types they could come up with for us. If they're as good as that ape, I think we would have some really good ones.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire July 15th, 2010 1:21 PM

yeah I like Hihidaruma as well, I am hoping for a new Fire/steel pokemon that isn't heatran (note: I love heatran I just want another fire/steel) :)

Not to forget that Hihidaruma probably evolves.

PalkiaSpace July 15th, 2010 3:15 PM

A Ghost/Dragon (other than Giratina) Would be great.

Same with a Ice/Electric...

But what i really hoped was that we could get some Fire types, with better combinations like Fire/Dragon, Bug/Fire (xD Fire Ant!), or maybe even a Fire/Ice, yet i doubt it.

Yeah Arceus doesn't really count as a pure flying type so a pure flying type would be cool :)
We have quite a few dragon's so far the two mascots plus Kibago and it's possible evo's :)...
We have three darks: the croc, Zorua and Zoroark :)

What. All Dragon-types are weak to Ice.

I'm glad that there are more Fire-types in this generation, as compared to Gen IV. Fire has always been one of my favorite types, and it disappointed me to be limited to only two that I could catch in-game.(and one was the starter). Hopefully either Hihidaruma is catchable early on enough to raise him well, or there's at least one more Fire-type to catch.

Never actually raised an Ice or Ghost, probably because of how difficult it is to find one. By the time I did, later in the games, my team was already set. So I would like to see a few more in this generation so I could maybe raise one.

Ho-Oh July 16th, 2010 12:01 AM

I love fire and if they increased I'd be reallyyy happy.

As for ice, I've used Jynx a few times and other than that... the choice of other ice types haven't really appealed much to me to matter.

Ghost types, idk. I know there were a few between Hoenn/Sinnoh and I never really used them so... idk, we defs need more fire/ice though <3

What's the big deal about pure-flying? Since they haven't made one after four generations, it's apparent that GF thinks of it as more or less of a complimentary type, especially since they've gone out of their way to ensure that every flying type with no other elemental affinity ends up being a normal/flying.

The only significant difference between a pure-flying and a normal/flying is that you'd trade immunity to ghosts for a resistance to fighting, and I'd rather have the immunity to ghosts personally.

[EDIT]
ninja'd lol. XD

rocky505 July 16th, 2010 12:15 AM

If they do make a Pure flying type then it can't learn roost. The game would crash if it learned roost.

No it wouldn't. Even in Gen IV, if a pure Flying-type (Arceus), was hacked to have Roost, it would still lose its Flying type. However, for that turn, all that will happen is that it will have no weaknesses or resistances. That's it.

Sorry about the off topic post.

They definitely need to add more dual fire types besides fire/fighting. How about a fire/electric?

i mean more NON-legendary dragons, gen3 gave us a nice chunk, but i want more unique typed dragons

dragon/fire
dragon/ice
dragon/dark
dragon/grass
dragon/exc.

and more unique dark types
dark/psychic
dark/fire (one with good defenses *stares at houndoom*)
dark/fighting
dark/flying
dark/normal <--- maybe a parallel of Girafarig

and we need a speedy ghost, and speedy ice type (other than froslass)

oh and whoever said the game would crash if a pure flying uses roost *points to arceus& smeargle* it no crash. so its plausible& doable

rocky505 July 16th, 2010 9:27 AM

Smeargle isn't pure flying. Even though it does learn roost through. A pure flying using roost is pointless anyway.

Swablu doesn't seem like the pokemon that can be given a pre evo as it's already cute and small...though they did give one to Chimecho but I think that Chimecho was more deserving of a pre evo than Swablu is...

but seriously why the hell did the guy want a swablu prevo (or any)? seriously what would be the point.

and i dont think there should be too many dragons, since they are like the strongest type. everyone would be getting hands on one for online.

Calder July 16th, 2010 1:11 PM

I want a Fire/Water type The Oil Bomb Pokemon...

Fire x0.25
Elec x1.5
Ice x0.25
Ground x1.5
Bug x0.75
Rock x1.5
Steel x0.25

Weird but fun...

You gave me an idea... A hunted boat that flies would make a great Ghost/flying pokemon :)

Tater Tot July 16th, 2010 1:34 PM

I personally don't think Fire types are that rare, you can usually find a lot midway through the game. Personally I think there needs to be more Ghost, Steel and Dark. Dark, being because you can barely ever find a Dark type to support you in-game. And there needs to be harder hitting attacks to support it. Crunch is the strongest and it still only does 80 damage. It's annoying.

Ghost being because, Ghosts are awesome types and can really help you in game but usually the only Ghost types you can find in-game are the Gengar family, and they're half-poison, so they're not all that great against Psychic.

Steel being because even though it's not the best of types it doesn't have that many Pokemon. And they're pretty good defensively, so they can help you sometimes in-game. And usually the only one you can find in game are the Magnemite family, (Steelix if you can find someone to trade Onix).

And really, I'd like to see more Dragon types that AREN'T overpowered. There are very few dragon types and most of them turn out to be pseudos, so I'd like to see an addition of Dragon types like Kingdra, good but not overpowered.

And yeah, there needs to be more ice types that you can find earlier in game. I'm probably forgetting about one, but... G/S/C, HG/SS? Not finding an ice type until the Ice path! :< It sucks cause ice types are great and interesting.

There are quite a few dual fire types that aren't fighting:

Charizard, Ho-Oh and Moltres (fire/flying)
Houndour and Houndoom (fire/dark)
Marcargo (fire/rock)
Numel and Camerupt (fire/ground)
Heatran (fire/steel)

As for me, I too would like more fire types. I quite like them a lot as I would need at least one in my team to get by the games, so there needs to be more more of them. D:

Ghost and Ice I tried them and I like them too. Like the others though, I tend to not use Ice types very much because I would have a water type learning at least one ice move. However, with the water types needing at least two water type HMs, I tend to get an ice Pokemon from time to time. XD As for me wanting more of them, ice I would like to see more while ghost I think we have quite a few already.

Slowking Bro July 18th, 2010 8:03 PM

Definitely! We didn't get enough Fire types at all! We could use some more Ice types, too. I love them, but there are only a select few that I like using. Ghost is great, too, but there aren't enough good ones.

I don't care too much about number too. I mean, water is my favorite type even though many people complained about there being too many of them. XD However, it would be nice to have some types get some love for variety and such.

Oathkeeper(: July 18th, 2010 10:48 PM

I feel like there needs to be a bigger variety of Fire and Ghost types. Especially ghost...I can only think of like 6 or 7 off the top of my head.

PaxAmericana July 20th, 2010 6:58 AM

if it has a lot of fire types in the game then i will pick tsutaja,
if not then pokabu

MrGnawty July 20th, 2010 7:03 AM

I am not seeing any love of the Dark types. There are only 23 Dark type Pokemon. I want more.

I want some really bad too!!!

angelteama July 20th, 2010 11:09 PM

it be cool to see a dragon steel type.

Astinus July 21st, 2010 12:53 AM

@Resultz: Whoops. I forget about most of the new Pokemon (until I play the game and write the fics), so I appreciate you correcting me on that.

Speaking of Dragons, I'm going to hop off the bandwagon and say that I don't want to see more Dragon-type Pokemon. They're supposed to be rare and powerful, and to have a lot of them running around wouldn't make them seem special. I'm personally fine with a small amount of Dragons, and not having a lot to chose from.

It's the more common types that I'd like to see more of. Like Fire, and definitely Bug, as others have recently mentioned. There are a lot of bugs on Earth, so I would think that in the Pokemon world there would also be a lot of different Pokemon with the Bug-type. Due to the rarity of Bug Pokemon, I haven't played around with the type as much as I want.

Kylie-chan August 14th, 2010 10:29 PM

Those who have pointed out that the region doesn't look overly cold are correct, but the seasonal cycle shows snow. So there's no reason there can't be lots more Ice-types for winter now. ^^ I'd like to see more Ice-types, as well as a bonus +Def hail boost to them to match sandstorm's +SpD boost to Rock-types, since Ice-types are frail as a general trend. Fire-types would be nice too, preferably with lots of interesting typing combinations. Can I say... Fire/Water? =p As for Ghosts, the more Ghosts, the better. I'd love a Ghost/Steel (bulky for competitive battles ^^;;) and Ghost/Water, though. A ghost of the sea, lurking...

As for Dragons, I agree with the sentiment that they're supposed to be rare and unique. They're also inherently a very powerful type -- don't want too many of those running around. :x

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire August 14th, 2010 10:45 PM

I imagine lots of Ice types in the Winter and Fire types in the summer, not sure if we will have lots of ghost though

King Gumball August 14th, 2010 11:46 PM

We have seen many new Psychic pokemon, so I think psychic will be the most plentiful type in Isshu. Or water, as there are always heaps of water types. I really hope there are more Dark types this time round that dont have Ghost, Grass or Normal as their second typing.

They have shown mostly Fire and Psychic, which is okay but I really want to see more Ghost and Dark types.

MartinJF August 15th, 2010 1:06 AM

I need more fire-types... I really need a non-legendary fire type for my team.... I'm currently stuck with Camerupt...

Darkfire_Danny August 15th, 2010 1:42 AM

I'd like to see more Ice and Ghost types available near the start of games :) In every game you start off by going through small, quiet routes with generic Normal and Bug types, wouldn't it be cool if you started off near an icy mountain and could find a polar bear or snow dog Pokémon? Or even if the ineviatable early-game forest contained ghosts (I suppose this did happen to an extent with Eterna Forest :) ) .

I agree that Fire types are reducing in numbers, but they could be running out of ideas; most Fire types are based on animals which live on rugged kinds of terrain (camel, horse, wolf), what is there left? But as other people have said, I've thought for a while that a Fire/Ghost Pokémon would be cool, like a candle phantom or something :) .

Foodin August 15th, 2010 2:03 AM

As for people saying Ghost and Dragon-types should be rare, I respectfully disagree. The rarity of a pokemon should be based upon how high its stats are, not its typing. For instance, uber-tiers would be the rarest of all because of their very high stats and learnset potential.

The kinds of pokemon I want to see:

-Pure Flying, Ice, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark and Steel-types! These types only have a few single-typed pokemon, while Flying has none.

-Another dual Grass/Dark-type! Nuzleaf/Shiftry or Cacturne are just poor excuses as neither of them have a physical design that makes them appear as if they emphasize the dark arts at all. A grape/berry pokemon line would be much better, as most berries in real-life have a natural dark coloration, or something like Youko Kurama's ojigi plant from Yu Yu Hakusho.

-A non-reptilian Grass-type starter line for once. I thought reptilian characteristics are suppossed to be representative of the Dragon-type.

-More Bug, Grass and Poison-types with at least decent stats.

-More pokemon based upon inanimated objects.

-New type combos that haven't been done before.

-An alternative evo. line for Torchic, so we can one dual Fire/Flying-type that isn't either reptilian or a legendary.

-Some actual ???-type Pokemon. There are already some existing Pokemon, like Ditto and Arceus, who sound like they can fall under that category.

-An Agahnim lookalike. Nintendo owns this character, thus they easily make a pokemon out of him. Probably could another pure Dark-type legendary as well.

Neptun August 15th, 2010 2:27 AM

I want a Ghost type eevee :D

747Jason747 August 15th, 2010 3:16 AM

I wouldn't mind more of these types, especially fire even better would be a Fire/Ghost type.

I think the balance between Ghost/Derk/Psyduck will be even.

...

Hahahaha what did I just typo. Dark and psychic, that is. I think they're just lulling is into the thought that there will be more Fire/Psychic types, but... I think it'll even up soon pretty much, somewhat like generation 1, I guess.

What's the matter, Psyduck got your tongue? Thats goin my sig, btw. But I would love to see some Ice/Dark/Ghosts near the begining. And sometime I'm gonna check the actual numbers on each type, see how even it actually is. And I would love for some kickin bug Pokemon, because they seem to get so little attention and power.

i think i saw on a scan from poke beach there was a supposed Bug/Dark type on there, now that would be cool, if true that is.

Ankoku Flare August 16th, 2010 12:41 AM

Yeah, so far I know Water and normal types have the highest number.
I would like to see more fighting type, ghost types, and I'm a pyromaniac so I'm hoping some Pokemon with those type with designs to my liking.

Matt-O August 16th, 2010 8:30 AM

I think there should be a Ghost/Steel type, number one because it would be cool and number two so that Scizor can return to sucking.

Kylie-chan August 16th, 2010 8:42 AM

Matt-O, I don't think it'll ever suck, but the metagame is just so naturally anti-Scizor, even without trying. A Ghost/Steel-type would absolutely rock, though, if it's bulky anyway.

-Dragon/Ice
-Ice/Electric
-Ice/Ghost

Ghost types need to be paired up with more types like steel, rock, and water.

I think we have a lot of fire types, but sinnoh and Hoenn didn't add that much.

A Steel/Ghost type would be really weird:D You know, ghosts are not made of solid material, and steel is the most substantial type there is...

Kenshin5 August 16th, 2010 10:13 AM

But its pokemon so there is not always logic behind things. I would prefer there is some more Dark Types just so we can see a Dark Gym for once.

Well, it could simply be something haunted (like that ugly sarcophagus). Or the ghost of a knight in armour?

Ho-Oh August 16th, 2010 8:31 PM

As awesome as a steel/ghost type sounds, that discussion should stay in this thread. However, continue to discuss why we need more of a certain type :)

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire August 16th, 2010 8:52 PM

I am hoping for another Ghost/Dark pokemon :)

Sora's Nobody August 16th, 2010 9:18 PM

Hmmm. Its hard for me to think up types but wat about something like Water/Fire, i know, i know not very orignal but it would be really sick.

gop to that thread for new unique type combos :)
Well I hope we get lots of Ice, I like Ice types a lot, and I want to use them in the main story line :)

I know, I love ice types! And more electric types. Though, if you go to serebii and see the High Link map (too lazy to find a link XD) you'll see where the path starts and goes mroe to the center, passing by the right mountain. There is an electro cave scan somewhere, I'm guessing in that mountain. Maybe you enter early and finally get a nice Ice (and Electric!) type early.

mrunner4home August 17th, 2010 5:47 PM

I definitely want more fire types. I really like the fire type and generation 4 really disappointed me. I didn't choose a fire-type as my starter and as a result got like no fire types all game. very bad...

as for ice, well it would be nice if they added some ice (unintentional rhyme). I mean, freezing is one of the five basic status problems (paralyze, burn, poison, sleep, frozen) but I don't think in all my life of playing pokemon (pretty much since the beginning) I have ever used an ice heal. if I ever got frozen (less than 5 times in ... ever) I considered it luck and fortune. more ice types and less water would be excellent (but some of these ice types need to be able to learn surf).

ghost... well though there aren't many ghost types, the ghost type is still common.it's not like you never see a gastly; they're everywhere. etc. ghosts can get a bit annoying some times... gen. 5 needs it's own ghost but I say don't go crazy

juxta August 17th, 2010 10:17 PM

In my humble opinion they ruined pokemon in the third generation.
Looking at the concepts of fourth generation and fifth generation, the pokemon just look ridiculous. Honestly, they've strayed to far from what pokemon once was.

Jerme August 21st, 2010 4:20 PM

ice types are terrible, they just add weaknesses...look at sneasel. if they could give it water resistance then yea

You cannot be serious. Ice is one of the strongest offensive types in the game, considering they crush dragon, grass, ground, flying, etc. Go battle against a Life orbed Weavile, or Mamoswine. and watch how they will rip teams apart with proper usage

Back on topic, We need more fire types, specifically fast ones. Infernape cant be the only fire typed sweeper in OU. (scarf tran doesnt count >:p ) And they get rid of pesky scizors, jirachis, and celebi's.
