Would you rather succeed in something you hate, or fail in something you love?

This is something that you see in everyone; goals and the desire for success. Everyone has an aspiration, everyone has somewhere they want to be, something they want to do, someone they want to be. We all want to succeed in something. But the question I pose to you is this; would you rather have tried and failed at something you love doing, or would you like to have tried and succeeded at something you hate?

Charizard★ July 19th, 2010 4:29 PM

Hmm...hard choice. But..
I would rather succeed in something I hate because I won't be able to stand failing in something I love D:

Izanagi July 19th, 2010 4:32 PM

Depends. I hate alot of things and love few.

Pokemon Ranger Lisa July 19th, 2010 6:00 PM

I would rather fail at something I love since then i would know that i tried, you know?

EmeraldSerenade July 19th, 2010 6:33 PM

Succeed in something I hate. Even though I hate it, it could help me somewhere in the future.

Depends on what I succeed in though.. because I hate a lot of things.

Eternal Nightmare July 19th, 2010 6:44 PM

I like topics like this :D

Um this is a bit of a thinker. If I would succed in something I hate then that means I can do it although I hate doing. If I fail at something I love then that tells me that this is something I shouldn't try to do but on the other hand I can keep trying and trying untill I improve. So I say fail at something I love. If I hate something then there is no need for me to continue doing that but if I love something then its fun and that also means I can strve harder. So yep :]

I already fail, in my opinion, at something I love to do. I watch so many others do it who don't even plan on putting it past anything other than something they do on their spare time and it angers me. People say I don't fail at it, but I don't meet my own expectations most of the time. It's one of the worst feelings ever to look at something you created from something you love and know you're bad at it.

Beechlgz July 20th, 2010 2:30 AM

I'd rather do both, and why can't you do both? Try many things. But if we have to choose one of the other:

If it's something I hate because I find it boring/tiring/uncomfortable but it is useful and productive, I'd rather succeed at that than fail at something I enjoy. But if it's something that I hate because it's immoral, I'd rather at least try for something I love and fail than for something I see as wrong and succeed.

Same goes the other way, depends on whether I love the thing because it's entertaining or because it's productive and useful. Just entertaining? Better of just as a hobby. Useful? Then I'd rather try and fail than not try at all.

Zeffy July 20th, 2010 4:27 AM

Try and try until you die succeed.

I believe in that saying so, I'd rather do both. There's no reason why I can't do both. Or maybe I could succeed in something I love. Quite irrational but maybe possible. :>

I'd rather have failed at something I love I guess. D: Since there's always the chance to try again one day.

Yeah that's my case. I love technology and things that relate to it but I just.. fail at it.

Signomi July 20th, 2010 5:00 AM

I would rather the latter. There is no fulfilment in doing something you very much hate, no matter how much you may succeed in doing it. All the praise, all the commentary, all the success will only give you momentary euphoria...until you realise the whole world will know you as somebody you truly are not. You will be identified in accordance to something your very own human nature does not comply with, and that can induce many lonely feelings.

At least when you...for lack of better wording, "fail" at something you love doing, you're easily flaunting your personal interest and no matter what your skill level is, it is still something you want to keep trying because it happens to be a passion, therefore you will want to go through trial and error to succeed in doing what you love doing best.

I'd rather succeed in something I hate. With success comes either fame, money, or at the very least, a feeling of satisfaction. All of which can be funneled into things you actually do like, regardless of whether or not you're good at it.

But on the contrary, if you constantly fail (or go "nowhere") with a talent you actually enjoy using, it's very easy for that talent to slip or to get discouraged and start to dislike it. :( It's definitely happened to me before and I hate the feeling because I hate growing to dislike the things I love. u_u

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ July 20th, 2010 6:54 AM

I'd prefer to succeed in something I hate, as I hate the thought of failure even more. And my successes there can help fuel the things I actually enjoy doing.

Spinor July 20th, 2010 8:22 AM

I'd rather succeed in something I hate. That happened to me in math 3rd grade, I ended up liking it today. Same thing might apply if I do better in some things.

Sorano July 20th, 2010 12:01 PM

I would rather succeed at something that I dislike. It would be very heartbreaking and discouraging for me to fail at something that I really, really love. I would probably feel at least some fulfillment if I did good at something, even if I didn't like doing it very much.

However, if we fail at something we love, we're just going to have to try again, now aren't we? :>

mikey July 20th, 2010 3:44 PM

Hard choice, but I would rather succeed in something I hate. That success can probably help me in another situation, and give me the confidence I need to actually try to succeed in something I like.

Legobricks July 20th, 2010 9:58 PM

Failure is but a chance to be better.

Jack O'Neill July 20th, 2010 11:21 PM

If you fail at something you love, at least you tried. You can still do better next time...if there is a next time.

If you succeed at something you hate, well, success is success no matter how you look at it. Take it, roll with it, and transfer it to other endeavours.

ANARCHit3cht July 20th, 2010 11:35 PM

I love to succeed,so I choose to fail at something I love, which I means I fail at succeeding. xDD

Couldn't help but think of school subjects when I read this, so you'll have to put up with me being simplistic.

I hate technical graphics.

I love English.

If I succeeded in a test for technical graphics, I'd feel a massive sense of relief and everyone would be like, 'how did he do that?'

If I failed English, everyone would laugh at me and my parents/teacher would be utterly disappointed. I'd be doubting everything I'd write in the coming months, wondering if it's enough.

So yeah, I'd much rather succeed in something I hate.
