Who wants to see a new Dragonball Series?
Mixed reactions, I know. But there are tons of Mangas out there and any one of them could easily become an Anime series.
I for one thought that GT seriously left you hanging. Spoiler Alert: Ok. After absorbing the last Ball, Goku vanishes. (I think Goten goes nuts after this, but I'm not sure; they weren't subtitled.) Then, it's the end. WTF?! I get the whole too powerful thing, but that's the stupidest way to end a series. I think they should make a continuation of it. (After all, wasn't it a few years after DBZ when Akira Toriyama decided to make GT?) He could even work with Shonen Jump on it, or something... What do you all think about it?? |
*looks ahead blankly* Uhh...not another one, 501 anime episodes and 17 movies were not enough? I really think it should have ended at the cell saga where Toriyama wanted it to end. Ah well, GT was to overplayed...the whole Dark Dragon saga just shows the writers had little idea what they were doing as the evil dragons came from all the wishes and dende had made his own new set...whats up with that?
|
Noooo, it went on long enough. X_____x
|
I wouldnt mind more. Seeing Vegeta kick butt would be cool.
Then again, I'd rather see continuation of Yu Yu Hakusho since it wasn't very long. |

1) GT had NO manga. 2) Goku didn't just disappear and that was it. He comes back after 100 years, sees his and Vegeta's generations are still carrying on and flies off into the sky after seeing Pan at an old age. 3) Toriyama didn't make GT. Toei Animation did. 4) Toriyama originally wanted to end it all after the seven Dragon Balls were collected. His editor pushed him to go on. He wanted to end it after Freeza, editor and fans pushed him. He finally ended it in the manga after Buu. 5) Toriyama doesn't even recall a majority of the things that occured in the Dragon Ball series, nor does he even want to make another. Since GT isn't an official part of his original story, I doubt he'd continue from where GT left off if he ever did. 6) The Dragon Ball franchise ended in 1997 in Japan. They're not gonna continue something that was meant to have ended back in '96, let alone, try reviving the series. Besides, EVERYONE but the US finished the DB series' way before us. We just finished seeing DBZ this year. GT hasn't even finished airing yet here. Everyone else finished it years ago. The market for DB products is really only alive in the US and barely so in Japan. No point in reviving it. |
A new dragonball series..... I don't think so, the radical plot of GT ruined any sort of story that would appeal to fans anymore. The only thing that I actully like about GT is the SSj 4 form.
|
Toriyama did have a say in GT, he did rough sketchs for the people and most of the story, he only didn't have any major work besides that involved.
|
Maybe I should rephrase the top post. I meant I saw the last episode. It was in Japanese with NO subtitles, so I had no clue what was going on. That's all...
And, Mangas meaning various spinoffs and continuations of the series in Manga form, and yes they are out there! (Just in Japanese) Akira did the original artwork for the series. That's all I meant. You gotta admit though. If a modern company (besides Toei) continued it, wouldn't Shonen Jump be a good idea for it? They even drag things out in their shows; it'd be right up their alley! |

Toriyama clearly wanted the DB series to end completely at Z when he finished his Dragon Ball manga. He didn't make the stories for GT. He only supplied character sketches. GT was terribly dragged out and was only really made because they wanted to milk the franchise out big time. The Bebi saga was ridiculously boring and (even though it looks pretty **** sweet) Super 4 was just a really badly thought out transformation considering Goku had said before that Super Saiyajin 3 wasted alot of life energy when being in that state, yet it ended up being ignored for Gotenks and the Super 4s. GT was FILLED with numerous plotholes (Goku forgets how to use the Instantaneous Movement yet knows how to transform past the first Super Saiyajin state, wtf?), a ton of characters looked awful (Vejita's hair got cut yet he specifically said in Z that a full-breed Saiyajin's looks and hair style never change through age and Mr. Satan's aged horribly..not to mention, Gohan looks like an even bigger dork than he did at the end of Z).
The series ended completely for me at the end of the GT series. Especially since they played through Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT scenes while playing Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku during the credits and had the narrator say "Farewell, Son Goku and everyone from the Dragon Ball world. May we see eachother again someday." |
i think they should redo GT ,but with toriyama calling the shots.

No! They should NOT make another series after it finished 7 years ago in Japan! GT was TERRIBLE! I'm enjoying DragonBall on Toonami but DBZ was the best. The Buu saga was okay I guess. It was rubbish how they made a SSJ4! SSJ3 RULES ALL!
|
yes I agree with everyone else the dragon ball saga should have ended after Z GT was very bad and thats it, the art seemed worse, and like it was siad before, if he can't do instant translocation because he learned it as an adult, whats all this about even being able to go super saiyan 1?! the baby saga is boring and I also agree about vegeta's hair, I know it wasn't very good and they should not make another series.
|
If they continue on with Gt (which i doubt) it would continue with Goku Jr. as main char. Since the Gt Movie A Hero's Legacy Just came out who knows what they will do. If they do make more i would get it just to see what they came up with after. To me though i think they shouldn't have progressed Super Saiyan anything after 1 that idea is just korny to me. I can understand the powering up of a Super Saiyan like any training would do for anybody. But to call it another lvl. As for SSj4 It says to get to that lvl one must lose all signs of emotion while in Golden Uzaru state yet when have we ever seen Goku with out any emotion since that is what fuels his fighting is it not
|
yes good example but over here, he is just turning into ssj4 and he wasn't really showing emotion as the golden ozaru, ok this is getting off-topic, so lets get back on topic
|
I am fine that they are done. Im just waiting for them to get the Saiyan and Namek sagas redone in uncut form.
|
Oh yeah. Toonami said they'd do them with the current voice cast, so that might be a good finale for the series, after finishing GT...
I think SS4 should've been Golden Monkey... That is one point that I agree on... Hairy chests must have been the thing back then... Still, you got to admit, if they did it right, they might be able to make a big comeback with it... Think about it. Look at it this way. They are still making games. Budokai 3 just released, and the 4th one is being planned... They're STILL milking it, so why not a new series to go with it?? |

Japan has very limited made games right now for the Dragon Ball franchise. Mainly because they'll be brought over to the US and Japan has rereleased the manga and are reairing the anime series' on satelite television.
As I said before, the US is the ONLY place that just finished the Dragon Ball series'. Of course they're gonna keep milking it here. Another series is not gonna happen though. Toriyama told the US Shonen Jump that he feels a ton of nostalgia just from doing the new covers but he doesn't want to make another series involving Dragon Ball because it was too much pressure on him. |
Im sorry, but no more dragonball series. As great as it was in all its glory, i think we can live w/o it now.
|
Re
I have pretty mixed feelings about it too. I'm a huge DB fan, and I'd love to see a new series. DBGT totally left you hanging - they almost made it sound like they were planning on making another one - "Until the day we meet again"
I just don't know what kinda storyline it would be though...everything's been done twice over already, so it would prolly kinda suck. I had no probs with DBGT, but DBZ was much better, and if tehre was another one, it would just be like DBGT, and everyone would be disappointed. So, I dunno... =P |
Another one? Aaagh... no. ;_; Without Toriyama behind the series, it flopped. I watched one episode of GT and couldn't stand it... thus, I stopped watching. They really should have let it die peacefully at the end of DBZ. Plus, it would just be too long if it had anymore series tacked on the end. o_O It would be overkill.
|
Plus, on top of that, they would probably just bring goku back from the dead a zillion more times; all they do nemore is repeat themselvesif they made a new one, they would need to alter the characters/ storyline completly.
|
Actually, they DID at one point plan on more GT but the ratings were poor. How in the world did it leave anyone hanging if they credited every seiyuu to ever appear in all three series' and clearly had "THE END" after the credits? o_o Everyone knew this would be the end to Dragon Ball and that we'd never see anymore of Son Goku's adventures. It was best to end it after 10 years. GT had a more proper ending than Z did, but GT was a big disappointment within itself.

ok THERE ARE 65 episodes of GT and Goku disspaers becuz So the dragon balls will be pure but no wishes for 100 years
|
Originally, it was supposed to end at Goku flying off with Uub in Z, where his Dragon Ball manga ended at. But Toei wanted to milk the cow for what it's worth and continued the anime after Z. Toriyama wanted it to officially end after Z (without counting the first collecting of the Dragon Balls or after the Freeza saga).
And there's 64 episodes of GT and one TV special. Not 65 episodes. |

The Goku Jr one was a TV Special. There was nothing planned for after GT. They had plans of CONTINUING GT, but nothing afterwards. Due to the push of trying to get Dragon Ball: Final Bout out, they had to push GT onward abit more.
|
I would have liked Dragonball/Z a lot better if it wen the way AT wanted it to go, then there MIGHT have been less of a need for a close up on the anime. I started out really likeing all of Dragonball up till volume 35, then the Buu saga started and it felt just so...empty. In the end I would have felt more "fullfilled" if Gohan's main purpose (especially once AT was forced to make the Cell Saga and Buu Saga) was to be Goku's eventual successor. But everyone in Japan hated that, so Goku returned to be the hero. Then Uub was to be Goku's successor at the end of DBZ, but that fell apart in the first episode of GT. Finally, Goku Jr. became the true successor to Goku in "A Hero's Legacy."
|
I never understood why the hell Uub was pushed aside in GT. They went from him being the next world's protector to being another side character that was no match for Goku's strength. The whole Super 4 killed the concept and purpose of Uub being Goku's successor. With Goku gone, Vegeta could've easily taken the position due to him being able to go Super 4.
I honestly liked Gohan being the successor during the Cell saga. But really, due to Gohan having not doing any training for seven years it makes alot more sense that he was no match for Super Buu. It'd be insane to just see him gain an instant boost of power due to Dai Kaiosama releasing all of his hidden potential yet he had a somewhat difficult time against Dabura who wasn't as strong as Cell was. It'd seem abit rushed. And the fact that Goku had to rely on the whole universe to help him shows he really couldn't beat Buu without them was indication enough that Goku's title as the World's Strongest needed to be passed on. If they kept it with Uub, it'd have been much better. :\ |
The Dubra thing is up to debate, in the manga it's said "This devil is stronger then Cell and Gohan stil can't defeat him?!" Or something like that. I just wouldn't trust the dub if I were you ^ ^;.
Still I would have LOVED to see AT's version of the Buu saga and not Shueisha's and the fan's version. |
Actually, I definately don't go by dub. I really don't trust fan scans of the manga, so I was going by what my subbed episode went by. They basically knew Gohan was stronger than Dabura who clearly could've been beaten easier than Cell had Gohan trained but from the way things were going, Dabura seemed stronger.
And it wasn't exactly Shueisha's call since they rarely make these decisions. Toei normally forces these sorta things, but it was more or less Toriyama's editor once again who forced him to change his decision on things considering the manga came before the anime. Had the editor not been in Toriyama's way several times, it would've ended either after the collection of the Dragon Balls the first time or after Goku beat Freeza. The only time Toei's ever made drastic changes were the additions of filler episodes (such as the Garlic Jr saga) and GT. |

in a Jap Anime mag,it clearly said he was making a new DBZ series,AF.
|
Oh lord. AF is not real, ****it.
|
Oh god, not that sack of lies again. AF never was and never will be real. Toriyama said he would NEVER work on another Dragonball project again.
|
AF was just a Japanese web artist's attempt at making a 'manga' of what was supposed to be the 'AFtermath' of GT. It was not officially made by Akira Toriyama, or Toei Animation and is an unlicensed project, despite what the maker says.
Manga Criticism: Really, Goten becoming a Golden Monkey? Why couldn't Gohan have been the one to do that, since he was supposed to be Goku's successor originally? Just to clarify, by 'manga' I mean the supposed 'AF', and not the official one of Toriyama. |
The term you're searching for is a 'doujinshi'. And from what I heard, Brolly had came back and Goku had to fuse with Goku Jr and Vegeta Jr to beat him. o_O Sounded really stupid to me.
|
Quote:
AF1: After GT, somehow Goku is still alive yet, Gohan, and Trunks are dead 0_o?. Goku and Goten fuse and fight a Vegeta/Brolly fusion...I think thats how it goes. AF2: Brolly comes out of nowhere and ask goku for help since Freeza was able to reach a new form. Once again, after GT...yet Goku is the only sayian alive...and Freeza is alive. |
I never watched more than 3 episodes of GT because it was so bad it was depressing. But if it really left you hanging at the end, they should at least just make a little movie or something to wrap it up. Maybe not a movie, but at least an OAV.
|
Well they did Make the DBGt A Hero's Legacy Movie recently which i think ended it
|
Oh! And on the FUNimation web site, you can win a copy of the movie autographed by...
Peter Mayhew, the voice of Chewbacca? Weird. |
Actually, A Hero's Legacy is really a TV Special that aired abit before GT ended to give people a little insight on who Goku Jr is when the final episode was to air.
|
Oh. And like the TV special Mewtwo Returns, it's being sold for money here when it was free in Japan. How generous.

To be honet with everyone, as I too wish for the Dragon Ball franise to end, I have heard news through the internet from many websites that they are PLANNING on making another DB GT series. I think the whole idea of it is crazy.
1) In Dragon Ball Z Goku said himself that going SS3 wasted his life energy and would thus end his life short, so why is his alive in DB GT? And why can he go SSJ4 if an Uzaru can only do taht without having an emmotions of feelings? 2) The art and the way they pushed the creater was pretty crummy. I mean, the art in DBZ was ok, but GT has to much cute and it gets emmotional at times. But if it gets emmotional and they fight on almost each episode, why do they have the mush? 3) In the US and Canada, they are only making the games, toys and shirts as a money maker. In Japan they don't even have toys or games due to the whole thing ending in 1997. 4) I have heard many people complaining about how corny GT is, so why go on? The whole idea of a next season to GT is quite stupid and hilarious if you think about it. Who will be the next characters if it's 100 years into the future and Vegeta, Gohan, Goten, Trunks and Pan are WAY to old to fight or already dead? It is a very BAD idea. |
Nothings going to happen, the closest thing to any new form of dragonball is the Deluxe Edition Graphic Novels that came out last year and had the alternate ending to the thing. In Japan no one really has any interest in bringing any new form of Dragonball back to life.
|
Good thing it's dead. It's way better to look back and think, "hey, I remember Dragonball, it sure was cool!" than "ugh, Dragonball, they milked the series until it stunk."
|
You cannot make another dragonball series, GT was dumb enough, and nothing could ever compare to DBZ IMO
