Need better...... everything. XD
okay, so I got a Dell P2010H a few months ago....
and the resolution on my current graphics card (1280x768 on and Intel(r) 82865G graphics card) IS DRIVING ME CRAZY! I REALLY need a better graphics card, any suggestions? Also, my current RAM is only 1 gig apparently... my PC occasionally lags (like, if I'm playing music, and I open another program, a few seconds of the song would repeat itself for a moment) Any suggestions for a better RAM thingy? this is what my thingy says I have: http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/256/hgjhfkfhfjkt.jpg What should I get? should I get anything else while I at it? and how much would I be looking at? EDIT: I have Windows XP Professional installed Also, I just tried playing Sonic Heroes..... it skipped, it lagged, it stuttered.. you know? I wanna be able to play some games! |
That sounds like you're using the onboard video. If you want better games, I'd get an older video card, like, say, from 2005 or 2006 that matches one of the expansion slot types you have in your PC, before you get any RAM. It should help performance by keeping the video memory and system memory separate. That said, that processor means the computer can't really be any newer than 2005, so for newer games, it's going to have some issues, most likely.

yep intel pentium is not a very good procesor i would recomend (for a couple 100 bucks) get a new mother board i recommend This motherboard with This processor you wont need a new graphic card cuz the 1 that the motherboard carries onboard is an ati radeon hd and the phenom has turbo mode so it will help a lot in the newer games it will allow you for some good grade of gaming, also (even though i hate windows 7) get win 7 64bit so you can put an unlimited amount of ram on it i could say atleast put 6gigs for newer games but for older 2 or 3 gigs will work. Since really your motherboard and processor is not gonna help and putting stuff on it will be a waste of money. Also your comp lags with music cuz of the processor, i have a amd sempron with 1 gig and 3 ghz and the music doesnt lag.You would be looking at 500 or 600 bucks.

There's no reason to upgrade the motherboard and processor; with the money it would cost you, you could buy a newer and better computer.
Your main problem is your graphics "card," which isn't really a card. Your computer has integrated graphics, the worst of the worst. Check inside the case and see if any of the slots are labeled "AGP," "PCI-Express," or "PCI-e." A few of them will probably be labeled PCI, those aren't what you're looking for, though it's the right area; the AGP or PCI-e slots will usually look similar but be above those slots. If you have an AGP slot, you have a pretty old computer and it won't be able to play many modern games. However, you should be able to handle most stuff up to around 2008. You'll want to get an Nvidia GeForce 6 or 7 series or an ATi Radeon HD 3xxx or 4xxx series, but make sure it's labeled for AGP use. Here are some good AGP cards (1, 2, 3). If you have a PCI-e (PCI-Express) slot, check your power supply and reply with how many watts it outputs. You'll want at least 300W output for a modern graphics card. |
I would also recommend upgrading to 2GBs of RAM, though that's probably a pretty obvious step to take.

OP, you either want to do what twocows suggested, and install a new Graphics card, or buy a new system. Don't take this the wrong way, but I think we can both agree that you're probably not up to building a new system by yourself. If you are going to buy a computer, run it by us first. |
