Real-time weather

In the recent demo, the route on which it took place was rainy. The same forest entrance was seen in an earlier screenshot, and it wasn't raining.

http://serebii.net/blackwhite/forestentrance.png

This leads me to believe that rain or other types of weather will be remote in this game, occuring at random moments, like real life. In previous games, there were only certain areas to display outside weather effects, and they were permanent. Discuss.

shininglatios217 July 31st, 2010 10:13 PM

I wonder if they will ask you for your country so it has the same weather as your country, in other words, no snow for me.

Dillon_68 July 31st, 2010 10:15 PM

It would be cool if they had some kind of feature where you can get weather for your zip code over wifi, maybe a whole weeks forecast at a time?

Bloothump July 31st, 2010 10:20 PM

I'd rather have it be random. Just because it's raining outside doesn't mean that I necessarily want it raining in my pokemon game. I'd like real time weather. It makes it different every time you revisit a route.

Rengoku July 31st, 2010 10:23 PM

No I want snow!
It's better snow in Singapore nao if it affects certain countries D: <

Ninja Caterpie July 31st, 2010 10:30 PM

Considering it's really easy to do random weather (read: possible since field weather was created in Gen III), it's possible they'll do this. Or, that weather thing could just be an event or have been changed since the screenshot was made.

incognito322 July 31st, 2010 11:31 PM

Well in the demo it seemed like the rain was actually posing an issue (isshu XD).
Towards the end of the video showing the demo, you can see Prof. Araragi looking out towards a flooded basin with a row of pillars going forward through the water.

This makes me think that at a certain point in the game you are unable to get through the forest, as the bridge might be submerged. That's my take on it.

Itstoppedatumbreon August 1st, 2010 5:57 AM

wouldn't like the wifi forecast cos in cardiff it rains all the time so lots of water pokemon for me!!!

Red1530 August 1st, 2010 7:45 AM

I would like real weather to be an option with random weather being the default. This would add a more realistic weather system.

polkop August 1st, 2010 8:39 AM

I don't think that it will be random.
I think it will have specific timeon specific day that it will rain.

Espeon Master August 1st, 2010 9:00 AM

I think it would be cool if we got the whole animal crossing ds effect, random weather depending on the season, but of course in a pokemon game. That would definitely make things more exciting. If this is true, do you guys think that mean the pokemon appearance chances will change every day with the weather?

Agent Clank August 1st, 2010 10:23 AM

Sounds pretty cool to me.
I would like it to be random like in real life, were rain can happen at any moment.
I can see this happening :)

Both are great ideas.

Weavile05 August 1st, 2010 11:44 AM

I like the idea of weather actually based off of what's happening where you live in the real world, but even then, sometimes whether should occur randomly sometimes and/or there should be a few routes that are always under certain weather, that way people who live in Florida can still get ice type pokemon.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire August 1st, 2010 11:50 AM

I would like them to insert a weather forecast for Isshu, showing the clouds, etc in a certain area, like a radar ;) Then the weather will be different everyday!

you could actualy see the map and storm systems on a tv.
that would be cool

And somehow this reminds me of the Weather Institute in Hoenn, and people will use it as an reference to having a Hoenn remake -Throws confetti-

I'd not mind a weather institute in Isshu, with Castform having more forms maybe, or an evolution?

Lol, Me neither, didn't they have a lady in DP how worked for the institute? Maybe Isshu will have one who gives you a Weather addition or device to you called "Weather Radar" ;).
I would love a Castform Evo :D!

Dillon_68 August 1st, 2010 12:23 PM

Wasn't there supposed to be a weather indicator in battle now as well? On the bottom screen? That could be an indication that weather will have a larger role this time.

I guess so but I guess it's there cos' the "It's Raining" thing have gotten on the nerve of many people now.

(&. Yay! 300th post!)

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire August 1st, 2010 12:41 PM

I think they will truly update the weather system at least I hope they do, they began it in gen 3 and added to it in gen 4 and I hope for gen 5 to have a major addition ;)

orange discontent August 1st, 2010 12:48 PM

If it's got changing seasons, why not random weather?

GFA August 1st, 2010 12:52 PM

Which is an excellent point ... The DS can tell days afterall, so it shouldnt be too hard.

Volroc August 4th, 2010 11:53 AM

The Weather

Before you go "OMG! Another Speculation about new weather" stop and read.

I wanna know what you think the weather will be like during each season,on each route,in each town, exc. exc. ^_^

Im hoping its gonna be a little more realistic and rains on a few random days of the week, and during the winter theres snow every day to every other day

while i think the fog should come into play during the early mornin, between 4-6am, especially in the big cities like Huinn.

the mountains will definitely have snow/hail, or at least the 2big snow covered ones ^_^

so watcha think people? wat is Isshus climate?

Unknown Trainer August 4th, 2010 11:57 AM

I like your idea!! =)
Although I was kinda surprised that HG/SS didn't have fog but meh it didn't really bother me. I'd like so see the sun get harsh during the summer season in some areas.

I am kinda wondering what they will use for the fall season that is if they are going to add any weather to it at all. It be cool if they did though =)

probably rain since it fall has the most rain usually :)
it not: Windy would be a nice addition, & it would make flying takes accuracy lower a lil& make it unable to use Fly, or Bounce

That's another good idea lol Really? well I thought rain will belong more around spring/summer so I didn't want to place it in fall.

Well I would like it if Windy made those attacks faster like Sunny day with Solar beam...though it is a good Idea :)

THen would these speculated weather changes have an effect on Castform?

Actually the other weather threads are disscussing the Seasons and weathers on each route too :P
Well I like the idea of having weather in each town...I don't beleive we have ever had any real weather not counting Hoenn as that region had the whole Kyogre vs Groudon thing, and Snowpoint :P.

Gardenia101 August 4th, 2010 7:01 PM

What would be REALLY cool is that if you use Sunny Day or Hail or something like that the weather in that general area matches what you just used. That would be convenient, especially with abilities like Leaf Guard or Flower Gift

incognito322 August 4th, 2010 7:04 PM

...only the games were more realistic stating that the weather came and went, because it wouldn't be normal for weather to stay the same for prolonged amounts of time.

With seasons involved, I wouldn't be surprised if natural weather took a stance, too, though I'm sure some places would get less/more rain and such. I'm not sure there will be a natural pattern, but I think weather will be more widespread, taking place in towns and cities now.

I think so too, the constant rain some routes are odd...wouldn't it flood over time...

austy14 August 5th, 2010 1:56 AM

Although a true forecast would be fun, what about people without wi-fi? Will their game just be a "dry" experience? And what about people in places where it doesn't snow? Just to many holes in that scenario... but it is a good idea all together. Maybe they can make a wi-fi plaza like thing but in the overworld and takes your weather and has more interactions with international trainers :D

incognito322 August 5th, 2010 4:39 AM

Actually, concerning the weather... the Sinnoh that Brazilians experience gets the same snow as the Sinnoh that Americans experience. Weather doesn't correspond to the player's world, but the game world. (same with the seasons, IMO) And since Isshu is temperate, we can be sure to see all of the previous weather conditions, and maybe more... *crosses fingers for wind-storm type thing*

Sage Harpuia August 5th, 2010 5:29 AM

I like the idea of different weather possibilities in the same route, but I prefer to be activated thanks to the season feature that (hopefully) will be in: for example in winter more rain and snow on mountain, in summer harsh sun on south...

Charizard★ August 5th, 2010 6:42 AM

That would be cool if they had it, I wonder what country weather they would imitate though.

I'm sure it could be localized for each area, like Animal Crossing.

I hate this idea. Where I live it always rains, which doesn't sound like fun. :(

Just for a little while. I mean, seriously, if you use Sunny Day, it makes no sense to have it sunny until RIGHT when the battle ends

Valrog August 5th, 2010 9:15 AM

LOL i wish its not real life one. cuz then i wont get alot of rains and NO SNOW...doesnt snow in cali D:

Surmonter August 5th, 2010 9:21 AM

I sure hope so, I would love it.

I doubt they will base it on the users country. A lot of countries have multiple regions that experience different weather. So it's much more likely they will just come up with their own system.

For example, snow would be much more likely in the Winter in the northern regions then it would in the southern regions during winter.

Rain would be much more common around the coast.

Valrog August 5th, 2010 9:23 AM

OR maybe.. based on japan's weather? Idk.. just a thought >.>

I don't see why, since the region is supposed to be very far away from the rest. And all the regions before are based off of regions in Japan. This is the first one that isn't. It's supposed to be very far away, it's not based on a Japanese region, so why have weather based on Japan's?

It tends to resemble New York City, Shanghai, and there are a few other major cities that are far away that resemble it too.

Valrog August 5th, 2010 9:32 AM

@surmonter. i guess your right. but it was just a thought. But yeah. im pretty sure it'll be just random.

That would be WAY too hard to program.

incognito322 August 5th, 2010 12:55 PM

I think that'd be much to program as well. Either the seasons cycle through quickly or they take the whole-year loop. Either way it's not the weather/conditions the player experiences in their world, it's Isshu's weather. So if Isshu has snow in the winter and you don't, well, that's due to Isshu's geography.

fenyx4 August 7th, 2010 7:35 PM

A random weather script would be nice - this would make it so that people without Wi-Fi can still have varying weather and Pokemon encounter rates (trust me, I'm still an anti-event-Pokemon player because of the lack of traveling capabilities and lack of Wi-Fi). And if Wi-Fi is enabled, you also have the option of having the weather match your local area, possibly via connection to that Weather Service that the Wii uses.

If BW save files are going to be able to be played on the Internet, adding a localized weather script to the game shouldn't be that difficult (then again, I'm not a scripter, so I'm not going to make light of the work scripting entails or predict the feasibility of the whole weather implementation. Though it would be nice, that's for sure. :D)

Maybe, maybe not. In addition to your basic in-game weather patterns, perhaps whenever you connect to Wi-Fi or whatever it could download a daily or even week-long forecast based on whatever you chose for your location on the Globe. So the game just accesses a different file location on the server depending on what you chose. It doesn't even have to be one for each possible location, so something like New Mexico and Arizona may get the same forecast.

I love your ideas. I think Isshu isn't a generally snowy place. During winter it may be able to snow in mountains, In a snowy city (if there is one, It can be blizzardy in winter, snowy in Autumn, defrosting in Spring and grassy and sunny in summer.

I like the idea of mist in early hours. I hope Spring time makes flowers bloom too ^_^

Circuit August 25th, 2010 2:19 AM

I love the idea of Isshu having its own climate, making it localized would seem a bit weird. I wouldn't see much variation in each season either. All sunny in Summer and rainy/snowy in winter. I'd prefer Isshu's own climate. I do like the idea of an Isshu Forecast though.

coolnick37 August 25th, 2010 5:05 AM

They are probably make the weather exclusive to season, as it would be too much work to make weather conditions appear random on maps, and IMO i odnt think it would fit.

Shadow-Star August 25th, 2010 5:11 AM

I like this idea a lot, but as coolnick37 said, the weather would go by season, it would be too much work for them to do it otherwise

Sora's Nobody August 25th, 2010 5:39 AM

Well lets sya they didnt base the weather off Wi-Fi. but instead controlled themselfs when its going to snow where ect. I want them to make it realistic, i mean in real life you wouldnt go from a snowy city instantly walking into a summer-fry route where the sun is shining. They could like thinking about how weather placement usually is in real life. They could e.g if its a life nescessity that a certain route is sunny they could atleast slowly ditch the snow, showing bits off melted snow untill the path is all clear.

Honest August 25th, 2010 12:18 PM

I hope they make it random, cause having Route 216 (I think) under a blizzard everyday can get annoying at time.

The only reason I wouldn't want the weather in the game be the weather here in New York City is because NYC has a tendency to be sunny a lot, and maybe once in a while have strong rainstorms. >_<
