Changing The Plot?!?!

I've seen a few things that say in Black and White we can expect more decisions that may affect the plot and how things go. How extreme do you think this will be? Or maybe it'll just be like the Mystery Dungeon games where all your choices do is change the script but sticks to the story. And how do you feel about it just throwing away 15 years of silent player characters? Think how Red feels. I bet he'll be jealous...

JP August 5th, 2010 7:41 AM

Wow wait... our character speaks now?

Charizardomination August 5th, 2010 7:45 AM

No our character will still be silent but we really need to change the plot

Really? Where've you seen these things that say we'll have more decisions? Because I haven't seen anything.

It's one of the rumors going on for sometime. Not exactly sure where the original source of that rumor came from, though I remember someone posted that somewhere in the Rumors Thread.

Anyways, I think it's too soon to jump to conclusions if you'll be changing the plot of the story. Mystery Dungeon was able to pull that off because it's a bit different than the original Pokemon RPG games, so not exactly sure if that's going to happen with Black and White. It is possible, but I assume we would find out that information already or maybe when CoroCoro comes around. The games are coming soon, and we haven't heard anything about changing plots just yet.

Cynder The Bloody Angel August 5th, 2010 8:23 AM

THIS is the reaosn why hacks are much better than the original games

i hate it if the main char. never speak like in all dragon quest games >_< anyway

i m sure b&w will be just normal games

a evil team
a silent hero
one or two legandary how dont like each other
a fatful fight to save the world

^ this conatains all pokemon games from the past

I don't see why we need to change the plot.
I'm loving the plot thus far, but oh well, to each his owns.

This is what I think is stupid. Its getting old. Actually its not even that enjoyable anymore.

Valrog August 5th, 2010 9:00 AM

i dont think the plot would change... and.. our characters would speak? i doubt it for now.. maybe the next pokemon gen if theres one :3

CptnSmonge August 5th, 2010 9:02 AM

I can tolerate a series of choices you might select in conversation--maybe nothing more than what I've seen in Golden Sun, but ultimately if the main character speaks on his own its a serious breach of RP etiquette. What if he doesn't speak like me? It's not an accurate representation of the player since vocabulary, vernacular and attitude vary from individual to individual. I've played a series of hacks by one one hacker and have found the contemptuous attitude towards authority and an overall smart alecky nature of the protagonist simply doesn't give me a genuine feeling of an RPG.

Any decision making in pokemon is really just best left to a YES/NO option.

Valrog August 5th, 2010 9:18 AM

I agree to the guy above me.

Gardenia101 August 5th, 2010 12:35 PM

Someone said that Coro coro released the plot, and that:
1.There would be multiple rivals
2. There are two villians, Team Plasma and A guy that wants to make People and Pokemon equal by seperating them.

incognito322 August 5th, 2010 1:05 PM

@ Cynder The Bloody Angel
...wait a second, WHO said Reshiram and Zekrom don't like each other? For all we know they may only exist in the universe of their respective games (as in Zekrom is never mentioned or alluded to in Pokemon Black, and vice versa) Dialga and Palkia aren't enemies. Neither are Ho-oh and Lugia.

Why on earth would you want the player to speak? NO VOICES. No one would agree on the "right" voice, and it would never work. I can guarantee you at least the main player won't be speaking. Besides that's way too much extra localization.

...and how on earth do you know already that in the games there is a fight to save the world? What if the evil team, or even just N's plans affect only Isshu? I mean yes, there are some things that are staples of Pokemon games, and there's no way around them. I mean would you want to just play through the games with no obstacles besides Gym Leaders? And what would any Pokemon location be without a source of crime? You're complaining about a staple part of Pokemon games... if you don't like it then quit whining and stop playing the games.

Yeah, multiple rivals are Cheren and Belle.

At this point everyone knows about the villains. But if this plot changing is available, events will eventually have to converge at some point: what could you possibly do if you were able to join Team Plasma and fulfill their goals? There wouldn't be much for you beyond that. So I doubt you'll be able to switch sides and go evil. But I hope there will be some changes depending on what you decide to do.

Cynder The Bloody Angel August 5th, 2010 1:19 PM

i had some "dreams" about black and white ...

- 2 or more rivals
- much harder gyms
- the main char. (the player) speaks
- EPIC LEGANDARY BATTLE MUSIC
- A NEW STORY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but i guess all dreams are crusched >_<

FIRST
-Please tell me one legandary group like Groudon and Kryoge
how like eatch other and dont fight
- Ying and Yang are good and evil and there are
allways fights between them -.-

SECOND
i dont mean talking with voice i mean something like
HERO: oh no we cant let Team Plasma do that !

and THIRD

A fight against good and evil is allways about the world !
why should they just lead one little region if they could control the whole planet ?

so think abouzt it =)

incognito322 August 5th, 2010 1:29 PM

Yin and yang are about balance. Lol. Neither is good nor bad, both must be in harmony for peaceful existence. Kyogre and Groudon were the only legendaries I excluded from my post because they are the only two that fight each other.

...they leave that for the player to think as they play the game. I mean where would you find that as a selectable choice? Why now would they put words in the player's mouth, when in all of the previous games you could think for yourself? Yeah, sure, in PMD some of the responses were customized, but that game's a bit different. I can see if you're talking about the occasional thing, but typically "yes" and "no" are all you need.

Do you consider separating Pokemon from people for the better or worse? And as it stands right now Team Plasma is in the hand that doesn't fight for world domination. N's motives are clear, and oddly, it seems like Team Plasma is aiming in the same direction. Where their paths split or converge we don't know yet.

Oh, and you have two rivals. That barely fits the "2 or more rivals" thing.

austy14 August 5th, 2010 1:33 PM

But I saw somewhere that "you will have more decisions" and that good decisions affect your game positively while negative decisions may have negative effects. I'll look for a source, 'cus I know I saw it somewhere...

I doubt they'd have a mutliple ending thing going on here. It would be nice, since all of the other rules are being bent. So while the possibility of having more decisions is always available, I don't think you'd be able to finish the games on a totally bad note. Oh, sorry XO I wasn't trying to win or anything... I just don't want you to come to any conclusions, especially if they negatively affect your view of the game before you even know if it's true or not. I don't even want to.

so yea ... =/

austy14 August 5th, 2010 2:05 PM

Ok! I found one!

accroding to Possible ‘Black’ and ‘White’ Spoilers - Unconfirmed (Update!) :

Quote:

Black and white, good versus evil, and yin and yang are going to play a major part in the plot. However, unlike previous Pokemon games, the decisions and choices you make will “influence” the plot of the game. If you make “good” choices, you might get certain help or items, whereas “bad” choices could have negative effects. The point is that the plot will not be as cut-and-dry as previous games, changing depending on the player’s actions.
Check it out for yourself! I see that that it says "Unconfirmed" but it still makes sense... forgot aout the "unconfirmed" part. Either way, it sounds interesting.

incognito322 August 5th, 2010 2:30 PM

I think it's cool, too, but I can't shake the feeling that no matter what you do or how you play, the story will end up ending the same. Like a path that splits in many places but ends up taking you to one destination.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire August 5th, 2010 2:35 PM

I would like this to happen, By picking all the negative choices the game might be harder ;)

I'm worried about that too, and thats what I meant when I originally compared it Mystery Dungeon series--your always asked questions that lead to a few forks but you always end up doing the same thing. It would be cool if at the end lets say N used Reshi/Zek to unbalance people/pokemon and failed, you could save him from being destroyed by Reshi/Zek or let him be eaten. Just a random idea...

that was stated so well, and is true regarding my thoughts on RPG's in general

dieter57 August 5th, 2010 4:32 PM

i don't know if any body has said this yet, but you do say "Yes" and "No" in the games. a lot.
so you do "technically" talk.

but i know what the story will be....

boy/girl and friends take off on a grand adventure with a brand new pokemon obtained from the professer. you travel to the next town and back, and get a pokedex. you fight 8 gyms to get to the elite 4. along the way you put an end to an evil team trying to do bad things. then you capture a legendary and whipe the floor with the elite four and the champion. you might get to choose something that makes you do something during the main story, but your still stuck on that main path.
