...i used pikachu,
nothing else :) |
I rasied Pikachu to Lv 12 and used Quick Attack to beat Onix :)
I refused to use Pikachu when I battled Brock. I caught a Caterpie and a Nidoran, trained them, and evolved them. My Pikachu was at L25 (?) when I battled Misty. Piece of cake. :P
The first time I played through, I'm pretty sure I just kept trying with Pikachu over and over (not even bothering to level up in between fights--Yellow was my first game) until I got frustrated and bugged my parents to let me use the internet to figure out what to do (back when we had Dial-up, too, so I couldn't just go on whenever I wanted). I then used Butterfree pretty much every time (and usually by the time I figured out Butterfree sucked, I was too attached to the thing to let it go--I believe I still had it with me when I faced the Elite 4 in several games). I think I've used Nidoran a couple of times (now that would be my Pokémon of choice, though), and I don't think I've ever used Mankey.
I don't remember what I did. Last I played Yellow was years and years ago. I do know I was an absolute Pikachu fanatic at the time (Though less of one than today.) and I first tried the battle with only Pikachu. I don't remember the outcome. All I really remember of Yellow was having fun with Thundershocking Pidgeys! Man, I did that every time. xD It was like an obsession of mine, I kid thee not.
I trained up Pidgey to Pidgeotto and I forget if Quick Attacked Brock to fainting or if I gusted it. Considering I hadn't touched Yellow in six months excluding a few days ago(The day I started playing again <3)
As soon as my Metapod became Butterfree I would use it to beat Brock. Other than that, I was once so clueless I trained Pikachu til' it knew Slam which was a huge waste of time...
I always caught a Nidoran and had it learn Double-Kick. Usually my final team consisted of Pikachu, Nidoking, the three Starters, and Snorlax.
i used Butterfree and Nidoran
my solution
During the time I've played Yellow, I've used Butterfree and Mankey for battling Brock (mostly Butterfree though). I've found Butterfree's Confusion to work particularly well since both Geodude and Onix have particularly low special stats (remember, this was before the Special stat was split into Special Attack and Special Defense-with Generation II).
Early on, I thought the solution was to trade for a Bulbasaur (or any other Grass Pokémon) or Squirtle (or any other Water Pokémon) from Red or Blue. |
I always get a Pidgey and train it up so that it has sand-attack. I then sand-attack both of the pokemon until their accuracy can't drop anymore. Then I just use Pikachu to kill them since they can't hit me.
I trained up Caterpie to Butterfree. With the attack confusion it was a easy fight.
While I have beaten Brock with only Pikachu before(using double team 6 times then tail whip 6 times then keep spamming quick attack) there has been times where I just get myself a Butterfree and hope I get lucky with confusion.
Looking through this thread, I'm surprised I'm the only one that uses Pidgey. Pretty much all of my friends do it now too because of me.
I used Nidoran and raised him up as well, finally managed to get over Brock.
I catch a caterpie, evolve him into a butterfree and raise him until about level 14-15 before i take on brock.
i just get a lvl 11 butterfree and kill him easy
I used a Mankey which I deposited later on. My first strategy, however, was to train a Butterfree until it learns Confusion, but that was on an emulator before I bought the game, then I couldn't be bothered to do it as it took too long.
I would always use Butterfree's confusion
I'm pretty sure I just caught a Pidgey and levelled it up :)
butterfree was the one that took him out.
Man,yellow was awesome |
After dozens of Failures with Pikachu
I asked My brother and he said go look for another one in Viridian Forest I caught a Caterpie, and then I took it out to the grass below Pewter City at the top of Route 2 to train it up. Eventually I got it up to Level 30 and Took my Butterfree to the Gym (because I knew it had learned confusion by then, I had a feeling that it could beat Brock) Then I challenged him, both Geodude and Onix were down, I had Won, Brock gave the Boulder Badge -that's the story of how I beat Brock for the First time on Pokemon Yellow (And to Last November, I thought that the best achievementon that game till I beat the Elite Four and So- called Champion about 5/6 Years after beating Brock) Back to Present... But Now: I use Mankey because it can learn Low Kick at Lv:9! |
I would always catch a Caterpie in Viridian Forest and raise it until it evolved into Butterfree...:pokeball:
When battling Brock, all I did was spam Double Team until he almost never hit me,
then spammed Quick Attack. Worked fine for me, and I never had a problem! :D -totodile42 |
Nidoran Female > Level 9/11 > Double Kick > Win :)
I raised a Caterpie into a Butterfree.
Ah... the sacred moment when you confuse that Onix and it hits itself is... |
I think when I was about five or so I just caught the Pidgeotto from viridian forest and trained it up to beat brock. Strangely it kept me going and ended up being my first level 100. I don't think I even caught anything else.
Buterfree, Nidoran, Beedrill, and Mankey can easily bring him down. Beedril has to rely on poisoning then stalling though. |
I did use pikachu, because it was my first game, and I didn't know how to catch other pokemon. By the time I figured it out I had about a level 27 pikachu. Brock was still annoying, but potions fixed that.
I caught myself a Caterpie or Metapod and evolved it into Butterfree. I didn't really think about using Nidoran or Mankey.

I catch a Caterpie and evolve into a Butterfre. Nidorans are a good option too. It's really bad that Brock have pkms. immune to the Electricity
I used a Butterfree against Brock. It fared pretty well, actually.
I think Butterfree was my star pupil, but it was so many years ago. Can't imagine using anyone else, to be honest... never had a Nidoran in my life!
Caught a caterpie and evolved it, then just spammed confusion
Neverminddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd
I went with the Nidoran route. But of course, I made my team so it could pretty much handle the gyms even after Brock.
Last time I played Yellow I didn't use Pikachu at all, I purposly lost against Gary and caught a Caterpie to take care of Brock and Mt. Moon (I released shortly after I got Bulbasaur and Charmander). Pikachu was left in the day care as soon as I got there as I was curious about how much it would grow over the game (it got to about level 50 by the time I stopped playing). My team consisted of Eevee, Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise.
On my first run through of yellow, I raised a Mankey, to take out brock. I never like more than 2 pokemon going into Mt. Moon
I just train Pikachu to lv 15 and spam double team and tail whip if I'm not in a hurry to beat the game. If I do happen to be in a hurry, I just go with Mankey or Nidoran.
For about 5 years I didnt know how to save my game so daily i would have to raise my caterpie those grueling 8 or so levels :) Ahh memories
I used Nidorino, double kick = death of Onyx. ^^
I used a Nidoran. Now it's a higher level than my Pikachu.

I used a nidoran(male) to beat brock. Double kick (?) FTW
I used Nidoran and beat him with Double Kick, like others have said. Pikachu sure was useless for Brock.
I've beaten Yellow like ~30 times, and every time I do something different.
But I must say, there's a reason Nidoking is one of my favorite two Pokemon in that game... |
pikachu
to beat brock with pikachu get para hax with static and spam quick attack is what i did pikachu being level 9

I DID THE EXACT SAME THING, LOL. :D |
I grinded my butterfree up to lv17 and used a combo of Sleep Powder-Gust
i missed e yellow version
iam looking for e yellow version cartridge any1 kw where i can get it ? or any1 selling 1 ? |
Train pickachu that high that it would be able to defeat him.. OR take the easier route and catch a nidoran or mankey.
I was very young when I got Yellow (and it was my first Pokémon game), so I couldn't really decide on what to do when I couldn't beat Brock, it didn't really occur to me that a Nidoran could be strong as well, or a Caterpie, so I just level'd my Pikachu as high as I could in that area (probably wasn't any higher than lvl 15 lol) and until he learned Slam, and used that to defeat him eventually. But it was always after a lot of tries, since I partly depended on luck, like getting critical hits or having them miss attacks.
I was 6.
I didn't even understand english back then. My Trainer's name was AAAAAAAA. I caught a Pidgey and turned him into a Pidgeotto, and next thing I know, I find the game 10 years later and I have a level 43 Pidgeot, Level 15 Pikachu and zubats, and caterpies... BEFORE beating the 4th Gym. |
I believe I caught a Nidoran and leveled it up until it learned double kick.

-Slam -Double Team -T-wave -T-Shock/Quick Attack or even Tail Whip if you want to drop his defense. Keep D-Team on Brock's Geodude 'til you maxed it and use Slam on Geodude and Onix. It won't take that long and you'll easily beat them. |
I remember tackling the **** out of Brock with mah trusty Caterpie.
Used Nidoran male, end of story XD |
Legit game: Mankey
Glitch game: Long range trainer glitch/Experience underflow level 100 Nidoking |
I've gone many routes, but I normally caught a Nidoran. I went the Mankey route once. I hate Pikachu... He was so useless in that game. I think I only used him against Misty.
I grinded Pikachu and beat it with quick attacks lol
I always caught a caterpie, then raised it to level 10 to get a butterfree, then my butterfree automatically learns "confusion", and thats what I used to defeat brock
I will say though, i read a couple of comments and i cant help but to think why people didnt use pikachu, he sucks at first but once I properly train up til the pokemon leauge, i have found him to be one of my best pokemon. |
My very first time I played Yellow, I was really little, so I didn't know what to expect. I just had my Pikachu, a Nidoran female, and a Butterfree. I quickly figured out a level 14 Pikachu was useless against Brock's pokemon and just double kicked + confusion'd his pokemon to death. x3
I just spammed Quick Attack while using Potions whenever I needed to. It took a good 30 minutes, but it worked XD
When i first played yellow as a kid i did it the dumb way by training pikachu up to like 25 or something when i recently played yellow i did it the smart way and got a butterfree
Tododile and charmander cuz of Feraligatr (look @ my avatar, DUH lol). But Pickachu is still my top. got him to 16 b4 i beat brock!

Nidoran's ideal for beating Brock. Too bad I broke my Yellow....
:cer_frown::cer_no::cer_cry: |
I remember a childhood friend quit the Pokémon series altogether as he couldn't get past Brock. Somehow he managed to train Pikachu to level 40-something by raw failure... resulting in win. The poor feller still didn't literally win.. :3
If I recall correctly, in my first Yellow I used the typical Pidgey as a shield to defeat Geodude and weaken Onix, then when he/she faints I switch out to Pikachu to get my EXP :D. |
I'm playing Yellow on my iPod, and, even though I haven't even gotten to Pewter City yet, I'm training a Pidgey, Mankey, and Nidoran♂.
Mankey, which seems to be the popular answer here. I used a Nidoran only once, but I'm not a fan -__- I trained my Pikachu until he was hella strong, though, so it wasn't a tough battle even though my Mankey didn't last through it.
When I was little I just used Pikachu with quick attack and slam. I don't think I ever tried it with anything else. But when I played Yellow again over the summer, I was a much smarter me, and just caught a nidoran for double kick on onix and a butterfree for confusion on geodude.
I loved the way you had to have Pikachu it was an unexpected and new twist! I also liked the fact that you could get Bulbasaur, Squirtle & Charmander too.. but that was only found out once Id played a second time
I know I used Butterfree. In the end, I only had 4 guys on my team, two of them being Pikachu and butterfree.
I just kept Pikachu. I gave it a bit of steroids, ran with it a bit, then bam, Onix is down.
i used only butterfree. its confusion was doing great against brock's rockheads.
I remember raising both a Mankey and a Caterpie (which evolved into a Butterfree) before reaching Pewter City. I can't quite remember which of the two I used to beat Brock. My money's on Mankey, because I remember keeping him on my team until Silph Co. I later traded one over to Ruby at the beginning of the game (along with some other Kanto Pokés from FireRed, just because I wanted my favorite ones back in Hoenn). I still have Primeape on my team on that game, so I must have gained a lot of admiration for it, that which I don't have for it anymore.
i recently beat brock again and my team was male nidoran lv. 14 metapod lv.8 pidgeotto lv.18 pikachu lv.20, yup talk about overleveld but i did it to be on the safe side [turbo speed helped lol]
I did something I think a lot of people can relate to me with..... grinding a Caterpie until it was a Butterfree and learned confusion.
I remember the first time I played I had both Nidorino and Nidorina, and later they were both on my team as like level 70 Nidokings and Queens, they actually are really good although they did lag behind the real starters and mewtwo. I replayed yellow quite recently and that time I used a butterfree, which I ditched when after I defeated surge.
I kept Pikachu, but I also had a Nidorino with me. it went along pretty great. :)
I always use a Mankey for Brock, plus Primape has always been a useful party member for me later in the game. I always keep Pikachu too, I always tend to keep my starter.
