Pokemon Beta/Early Version Material
Sure, there are a lot of beta items in the games, but do we really know everything? Let's try to find every single beta item, script, map, and hex for the game and just list it here.
I think the most common is the Pokemon Green 1.0A Lavender Town theme. I listened to it and the back of my head started to hurt a bit. Kind of odd, but I see why was the game remade with lower tones. Other items can be added, but will be added later on. When I find them, that is. |
Sounds exactly the same to me

Sounds the same to me also.

I'll admit I could never notice a difference either, but I'll believe it's there.
Someone made a thread a while ago here, possibly under the name celebi23. Not sure if they're still active, but I know the thread died, because of how Pokecommunity works (I think stuff gets archived, but not sure how that works). Fortunately, they made another identical thread on another forum I go to, so I still have all the information at my hands. The thread was about Pokémon Gold/Silver Spaceworld 1997 demo. They made a website about what they found, which is here. There's some real interesting here, including art of GSC starters and some other Pokemon in development, a placeholder sprite for Ampharos, and other fun stuff. They then made another thread (at least at the other forum) about stuff they had found on the original Red and Green. The website for that is here. This one is less interesting, but still some nice art. |
Odd... I listened to it and noticed significantly higher pitched sounds in the background. And I'm sure it was this video. It hurt my head. It still does.
Anyway, thanks for the links- got nearly no new info out of that. Going to attempt a complete restoration, though. |
I think the difference is when one of the background noises get higher and higher every time until is sounds like an extremely high pitched squeal.
I'm not quite sure, but isn't it like that in the Japanese Blue, and the International Red/Blue/Yellow, too? Quote:

I did manage to find what might be one of the biggest goldmines out there. Simply talking about it right here can fill up the entire page and quite frankly, I wouldn't even know where to start so the link is here: http://wiki.rustedlogic.net/Pokemon_Gold

I had a lasting headache before I listened to it, but that song cured it. o_O
I love beta things, so I'll be on this thread awhile. |
1st off, we've got a 4channer above me.
2nd off, yes there are lots of beta rumors. The one that interests me the most is the Parasect Creepypasta. To be honest, it was a Pokemon I overlooked until I heard the rumor. You can probably Google it, but here is the gyst of the story: Parasect is controlled by the Mushroom on it's back (says so in the Pokedex entry). In fact, Parasect is really a "zombie" if you will. It's lifespan is depressing. It lives, mates, lays eggs, then dies as the mushroom spores onto the Paras eggs, burrowing the parasitic Mushroom into the body before it is even born. It's really sad. The moment Paras evolves, it becomes unconscious of anything it does. Later the mushroom tells it to mate, then kills it, growing out of it's hollow shell (this is assumed). The creepypasta claims that when asked about the rather creepy Pokemon and it's strange hollow eyes, Satoshi Tajiri became nervous and sweaty. When asked any further he would simply yell "PARASECT IS A POKEMON AND NOTHING MORE!! STOP OVERTHINKING IT!!". But people found this to even more disturbing. Some choose to believe that maybe Satoshi is trying to warn us of something. For example, where do Parasect live? Mt. Moon. Also home of a Pokemon thought to be an alien (Clefairy). And it's even more of a coincedence that Clefairy was originally slated to be the mascot of Pokemon before Pikachu. And if that isn't crazy enough consider this: Satoshi Tajiri collected bugs as a child, primarily cicadas and beetles. If you look at Paras you will see the striking resemblance to a cicada. Now I'm not quite sure I believe this, after all it is just a Creepypasta. But Paras and Parasect are based off of a real phenomena in South America, where a Mushroom (I forgot the name) will spore onto ants and will release halucinogens into the ants mind to tell it where to go. So there is a bit of truth behind these Pokemon. Anyways, TL : DR, a strange story saying that Parasects are warnings of aliens controlling us with mushrooms. |

It must suck to be a Paras that reaches Lv24... |

By using Hex Editing, I'm looking into the debug menu, I'll add a script for it. |
I read about this quite a while ago on Glitch City Lab's website. Apparently small children can hear those high pitched noises better than adults (for obvious reasons). It was removed because it was causing headaches and nausea from what I remember (dont go quoting me on that I could be wrong).

Lavender Town used Confusion!
Niprop was confused! Niprop hurt itself in it's confusion! Niprop snapped out of it's confusion! ... Anyways, erh, that Lavender Town was...Interesting to say the least, but something tells me that Gameboys really weren't meant to play high pitched screeches. I wonder how a Gameboy Advance would play it... I also can't help to think what kind of a glitchy mess version 1.0 of Green version is... On another note, it's interesting that they left out a third game in the game corner in G/S. Gee, with all the unfinished beta material left in G/S, you can fit in a load of things. It also makes you wish that the developers were given more time to finish all those unfinished objects. Also, heh, the guy that keeps talking about technology in every version is called "Mr. Chrono". I knew it, he must be a time traveler! |
Here are the beta Pokémon that didn't make it to the final version:
Kurusu: It was a seal-like Pokémon and it even appeared at the Spaceworld 1997. Its number was going to be 212 (in other words, Scizor was its replacement) and it was going to be the Water-Type starter (in other words, Totodile didn't exist either). Honoguma: A bear/mouse-like Pokémon and it also appeared in the demo. It was the Fire Starter and was replaced by either Cyndaquil or Teddiursa. Weird pink Pokémon: An unnamed pink Pokémon that could be either be a beta Cleffa (in my opinion) or a beta Hitmontop. Weird tortoise Pokémon: Possibly either a beta Shuckle or it was redesigned into Torkoal or the Turtwig family. Aside from them, a lot of Pokémon received changes (Marill was going to be pink, Girafarig was going to have two heads, etc.). Info from Bulbapedia. |
For those who play rom hacks, some of this should look very familiar. Some of those maps got restored in the Rijon series and the card game is in Prism.

This could turn out to be a very interesting thread, I love reading about early versions of the Pokemon games and things that were left out or changed. Just to add some more info, I forget where I read this (probably Bulbapedia) but I think Green or 'Leaf' was supposed to appear in the original games but due to time constraints or perhaps memory limitations she had to be left out. Again I'm not 100% accurate on this one because I forget where I read it but if its true I wonder how she would have looked like as a sprite.

That's right, Ctrl.Alt.Geak. Here's the link to the picture and other beta designs: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Unreleased_Pok%C3%A9mon_and_characters

Ah thank you very much for the link shininglatios217. I dont remember seeing the Female and Male trainers (or maybe I just forgot about them), they look pretty cool.
|
I wonder why they removed them and the unused Pokémon.
By the way, if you hack, you can see there are three placeholder Pokémon. I wonder if those were where the Pokémon were supposed to be. |

Celebi23 is still around online, and was in fact on PC a few days ago. However, for some reason or another he never responds to E-mails, PMs, or Facebook messages. He's dropped out of the Pokemon fandom for now. |
The sad thing about that is that he didn't post images. I wanted to see Kurusu, Honoguma, Hapa and dual-headed Girafarig in action. I also wanted to see what Serene does.
