questions about DS/DSi and BW?

So when I was a kid, I bought a game boy color and pkmn version red when it came out because everyone was playing it. Then when the new pkmn games came out I still played them but I played on an emulator because my parents refused to buy another console for me xD
This time for Black/White though, I want to buy the actual game. Since I haven't really touched a nintendo console in such a long time, I have some questions about the DS and BW :D

1. First of all, what is the difference between DS and DSi (or DSi XL?)? From what I can see physically, DSi just has a camera function compared to DS. I'm guessing I should be buying DSi anyway because it's newer than the DS?

2. Also, I live in Asia, so if I buy a DSi it would most likely be a Japanese/Chinese version, but I want to play the English version of BW. So will the US game work on a Japanese/Chinese DSi?

3. I actually live close enough to Japan so that the event pkmn wifi events in Japan are accessible here. But if I get the US version of BW will Japanese wifi events work or do I have to have a Japanese game?

4. My friend is buying the Japanese BW, so will I be able to trade/battle with her if I have the US version?

haha, I realize that I could probably find answers to these questions on google but I thought it would be better to ask experienced players on the forum
thanks for taking the time to read my thread! :)

There are 4 DS's so far...
DS - You can call this the "phat" DS. Geared with a microphone and a SLOT-2 for GBA games.

DS Lite - The "lite version" of the "phat" Still has the SLOT-2

DSi - With a camera of .3 megapixel resoultion, still has the microphone BUT no SLOT-2 (Sad, I know)

DSi XL - Personally, I like this better. Not because it's the one I use, but I just got used to PSP with a large screen. Just the same with DSi, only larger screens, and 3 free Nintendo apps :P (Brain Age : Math / Arts & Letters and Flipnote Studio)

Where in Asia do you specifically live? Region specificity is not that important in DS, afaik. I've played a JAP version of HG before on my DSi XL. Worked but I didn't play it all the way. I can't read Japanese letters nor understand them =/

I think not. (Not sure about this one)

4. My friend is buying the Japanese BW, so will I be able to trade/battle with her if I have the US version?

Yes, most probably as it is possible in the 4th Gen Pokemon games.

Answers in bold :D

Btw, if you want info on the upcoming DS, the 3DS, you can just google for it. I dunno if outside links are allowed here, so I just play-safe and not post an outside link :3

You got your answers. Next time, please use a simple Q&A thread relevant to the game you're asking this for.
