I'll do this challenge again on Silver.

Update #1:
Spoiler:
I started off my challenge by selecting a Cyndaquil from Professor Elm. The Cyndaquil was named Boitumelo and together we set out on a journey to visit one Mr. Pokemon. Boitumelo had a few close encounters with the venomous Weedle, but in the end it survived the journey and we returned safely to Professor Elm’s lab. After receiving some pokeballs ‘Melo and I set off to Route 46 where we saw and captured a Level 2 Spearow named Furaha. With new dreams ahead Furaha was eager to grow, but sadly in it’s first fight, a critical hit from a Sentret killed Furaha mid-flight. Putting the past behind us, Boitumelo and I continued on until we reached a cave. Within the cave we caught a Geodude named Efua who would soon become the next member of our team. Upon exit of the cave we encountered a Pidgey named Mbali who would become the third member of our team and with that ‘Melo and I were off to Violet City and our first badge. Unfortunately, training proved to be tough and Efua was not able to survive, but Mbali was able to push through and became stronger than ever. Together we got through Sprout Tower, while capturing a Level 5 Rattata named Xenia.

I haven't started mine yet, thanks to school. <_<

But here's a userbar!

Credits:
Griffinheart
From: The Pokemon Dream League (can't link. i'm afraid of getting banned for it)

mondays suck September 2nd, 2010 1:30 PM

I don't really find that userbar appropriate. A big part of Nuzlocke is about using Pokemon you otherwise woudn't use, and while Rayquaza would fit into that category for me, it's not that way for many others. Anyways, Rayquaza has pretty much nothing to do with Nuzlocke.
My (obvious) suggestion: Nuzleaf. With John Locke's face if manageable.

Don't take this as distructive criticism, let's just call it an advice. Because putting effort in creating such an userbar is already praiseworthy, even if it doesn't quite fit the topic.

Zaroas September 2nd, 2010 1:37 PM

I may make a userbar for this, with Nuzleaf...

HallwayKid September 2nd, 2010 3:17 PM

I am also doing a Nuzlocke challenge on Ruby for when I'm not at my computer. Three Zigzagoons so far.

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/212.png-Good stats great swords dance sweeper. I know this from personal experience :)

.Kaiser September 3rd, 2010 4:05 AM

Clefable, Purugly, Dustox and Bibarel and uber. Get Curse/Amnesia/Defense Curl/any other stat boosting move a a Bibarel with Simple ability will dominate. Clefable has Magic Guard so it's one of the better Pokes. Purugly can be a beast with a good moveset, as can Dustox. So STFU dude.

mondays suck September 3rd, 2010 5:49 AM

I think Bronzong should be bro tier, I used one of them once in a Pearl Nuzlocke that I never finished because it was on a cartridge I don't have anymore, and it was totally awesome. It just wouldn't die (esp. since Fire attacks are so rare), but still packed QUITE a punch with Extrasensory. Brozong is pretty much the only defense specialist without a major glaring weakness.

I also disagree on Infernape (dies too fast) and Clefable (it has a HUGE movepool, two good abilities and decent enough stats), but I'm ok with most of the rest.

..mind if I try to create Kanto (gen 1, since gen 3 plays differently) tiers? I'll probably get a few wrong as well, but this looks like a fun thing to do.

Planetes. September 3rd, 2010 7:58 AM

Well tbh I haven't played with every single one of the Pokes so its a rough assumption, I'm sure I'd have an appreciation for kaiser's noobs if I have used them.
and @mondays suck, Sometimes specilalists are even more useful as bro tier and I'd like to see your Kanto tiers, I'm doing Johto Next :)

mondays suck September 3rd, 2010 8:20 AM

Alright, here's my attempt at a Kanto tier list. I'm unsure about some (for example: Aero, Ninetales or Slowbro) and probably got a lot of things wrong and people will disagree, but an attempt is an attempt.

Now with 150% more repetitive commentary and typos.

Also note that I excluded trade evolutions since most people don't do them (at least that's what I'm assuming).

Derp Tier
Spoiler:

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/5a/015MS.pngAs much as I love Beedrill, it has bad stats, and a - apart from Twinneedle of course - bad movepool.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/6/68/018MS.pngAverage stats, but very bad movepool.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/4/4d/020MS.pngAn early powerhouse with Hyper Fang, but easily outclassed by most stuff later on.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/f/f1/040MS.pngA worse Clefable.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/d0/042MS.pngAwful. Just awful.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/4/41/047MS.pngWith that typing, Parasect is not going to get far.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/f/f1/057MS.pngVery fragile, and a bad movepool.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/57/083MS.pngDux is certainly cool, but not good.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/c/cd/095MS.png81741941 defense? So what? It sucks anyways.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/6/69/101MS.pngFragile, bad movepool.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/1/1a/107MS.pngTotally outclassed by its brother. Elemental Punches abuse? Not with that awful Special stat.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/2/25/108MS.pngDecent movepool, but awful stats, and only obtainable by trading for the far superior Slowbro. Notable for being a good slave though.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/4/45/114MS.pngRare, pretty bad stats, bad movepool.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/8/88/119MS.pngFµck Yeah? More like Fu
Spoiler:
Сk no.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/53/132MS.pngObviously
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/d1/142MS.pngVery good offensive stats, but one of the worst movepools in the game and very bad defenses.

Average tier
Spoiler:

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/1/14/012MS.pngFast, good special stat, Sleep Powder, Psychic moves. Derp bug? I think not.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/d3/024MS.pngGood for some Wrap fun
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/da/026MS.pngDecent offensive stats, but very weak movepool
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/7/75/036MS.pngVery good movepool, and better stats to abuse it than Wigglytuff.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/1/10/038MS.pngPretty generic fire type with unvariated movepool, but notable for early Flamethrower and being one of the best Wrap variation abusers.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/6/64/055MS.pngGeneric water type. The access to Psychic moves is nice, but the real Water/Psychics outclass it.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/3/35/059MS.pngAnother generic fire type, similar to Ninetales except that its worse.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/0/0f/067MS.pngSlow, common weaknesses, no good Fighting moves, but powerful physical stats.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/5c/075MS.pngEarly on a beast, Graveler has severe problems with its typing. A good thing however is learning Earthquake by level up.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/6/66/078MS.pngYet another generic Fire type.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/0/0c/082MS.pngNowhere near being the beast is will become in later generations. Magneton here is just an average electric type with an awful moveset.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/b/b4/089MS.pngLike Magneton, a lot weaker than it will become later on.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/5c/099MS.pngAnother water type that is not really notable, except for maybe Crabhammer, which can be quite beastly but is not really supported by Kingler's physically-orientated stats. Also, Kingler makes a good slave.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/6/6f/105MS.pngInferior to Sandslash in almost all ways, but still worthwhile using.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/6/68/115MS.pngLike some many in this tier: Decent stats, bad movepool. Also very unlikely to get, probably even more than DPPT Snorlax
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/8/81/117MS.pngGeneric water type.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/58/122MS.pngCould be in a higher tier, but I think Kadabra outclasses it.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/54/123MS.pngOnly gets normal-type moves, but is notable for easy access to Swords Dance.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/5c/127MS.pngThe bulkiest of the bugs, but not really that good yet.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/f/f7/137MS.pngNot-so-very-nice stats, but access to Psychic and Elemental attacks and recover.

Offensive tier
Spoiler:

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/3/35/022MS.pngJust two words: Drill Peck. One of the best attacks in the game in my opinion, and Fearow is easy to access and gets it pretty early.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/8/86/051MS.pngIts Slash and Earthquake will seriously hurt, but it can't take hits. Very close to lower tiers.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/a/a7/053MS.pngThe best crit-abuser in the game. 210-power-Slash is nothing to laugh at, even from these mediocre stats.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/b/b6/064MS.pngThe best typing in the game, monstrous Special and Speed stats. Close to bro tier, but it somewhat lacks in move variety.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/1/19/085MS.pngA better Fearow with the problem that you get it much later.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/6/60/106MS.pngThis thing gets the only good Fighting type moves in the game. And it has the stats to abuse them. While Fighting is one of the worst typings in this generation, it still has its uses, like the otherwise so painful Lorelei.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/f/f5/124MS.pngThe two best offensive typings in the game, and the stats to abuse them. Too frail and hard to obtain for bro tier though.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/7/72/125MS.pngAn Electric type that can actually do more than just spam Electric and Normal moves and be screwed against good ground types! This thing has access to Psychic.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/e/e7/126MS.pngLike Electabuzz, except that it's a fire type. Unfortunately it lacks Fire Spin.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/1/16/135MS.pngNotable for getting Pin Missile, making this the only Pokemon besides Parasect that is not weak to Psychic and can hit Psychic types super-effective.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/3/30/136MS.pngAn offensive monster. While somewhat lacking in move variety, it still is powerful enough to get into this tier.

Defensive tier
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/3/3e/045MS.pngVery good defenses, access to status, but lacking in offense.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/b/b6/080MS.pngProbably belongs even in a higher tier, since it gets Amnesia. But defensive was so empty...
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/b/bc/091MS.pngAwesome defense, good Special. The typing is more of an offensive one, but overall it all plays well together.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/2/22/110MS.pngRemember those things that you couldn't kill easily and that then selfdestructed on you? Get one and do the same. Except for the second part.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/c/ce/112MS.pngA better Graveler in terms of stats. You have to watch out when using this thing though.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/e/ea/113MS.pngEverone knows Blissey, and this isn't much different, except for the ability to actually hurt stuff since it's Special here is what would later become its Special Defense. The bad thing is, you're not going to get one of these. Never.

Prestige tier
Spoiler:

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/e/e0/028MS.pngAvailiable early, powerful typing (keep in mind that by far the highest percentage of Pokemon you're going to fight are poison types), early Slash
Spoiler:
, decent stats. Certainly over-average, even if it will require TMs for Ground-type moves.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/3/31/049MS.pngA Butterfree with better stats, a better typing and access to Psychic by level up. One of the best statusers in the game.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/5e/062MS.pngGood typing, access to Amnesia and a good range of moves, Hypnosis...
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/9/9b/071MS.pngStatus, Wrap and crit abuse with Razor Leaf.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/2/20/087MS.pngGood offensive typing, balanced stats, Ice Beam by level up.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/9/98/097MS.pngOverpowered typing, balanced stats and Hypnosis.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/9/95/128MS.pngStats are wonderful, movepool is ok. The downside is that you're not getting any of these things, just like Kangaskhan and Chansey.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/0/08/141MS.pngGood typing and Slash, but lacking in Special where most of its movepool lies.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/c/cc/149MS.pngPowerful? Certainly. But will all the painful grinding be worth it? You decide.

Bro tier
Spoiler:

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/df/003MS.pngLeech, Seed, Sleep Powder and Razor Leaf. While the poison typing isn't really helping, Venusaur is still a complete beast.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/0/01/006MS.pngVery good offensive spectrum, also a good Fire Spin spammer.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/c/cb/009MS.pngGood movepool, good defenses, not really lacking on offensive power as well.
Spoiler:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/3/31/031MS.pnghttp://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/1/18/034MS.pngThe Nidos can learn pretty much anything that's worth learning, while still having very good stats, unlike, say, Clefable.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/f/fc/073MS.pngHas a monstrous special, all other stats are at least good, and it gets Wrap.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/7/71/093MS.pngKeep this away from Psychics and it will kill everything. Similar stats to Kadabra, but a better defensive typing and superior movepool.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/db/103MS.pngThis thing has it all: Leech Seed, Status, Psychic... Heavily underappreciated.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/a/a0/130MS.pngGyarados is Gyarados. No need to say more, everyone knows this bamf.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/4/4b/131MS.pngLike Dewgong, except that its superior in almost everything.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/2/2a/139MS.pngDecent typing, insanely good stats and an ok moveset.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/d6/143MS.pngCan learn almost anything, is a monster stat-wise and even gets Amnesia.

Oh goddammit, spoiler splitting. Now my day is ruined.

And yes, this is a pretty hard thing to do, while I have used all of them at some point, I certainly didn't use them enough to really know all their strengths and weaknesses.

Firered Nuzlocke run

Caught the Snorlax on Route 12 and named him Darian.
Got to Fuchsia City and went to the Safari Zone.
I didn't get a pokemon here because it fled.
Caught a Fearow on Route 18 she was called Beatrix.
I also caught another Oddish on Route 15. I named him Zach.
Then on Route 14 I caught a Venonat, which I named Sindy.
On Route 13 I caught another Pidgey named Johanna.
Defeated Koga with Jon's psybeam. Anna took down Weezing.
Back on Route 6 I met and caught a Psyduck. I named him Edison.
I fished in Vermillion City and caught a Shellder, which I named Harlan
Knocked out a Spearow on Route 16.
In Pallet Town I fished, hoping to find a Horsea and the first pokemon to appear was a Seadra. I caught it and named her Diane.
On Route 21 I found a Tangela in the grass. I called him Esmund.

Alright guys, I think I finally got a HG rom working. You know what that means? Right, I start a Nuzlocke run on it. Yeah, I know I still have that Ruby one going, but it's not like I won't continue it.

...I am a terrible person, aren't I?

Spoiler:

So, I picked Cyndaquil named Aldod (as always, names are generator'd) because I rarely do that, and almost managed to get through the first route without encontounters, but only almost.
So I arrived in Cherrygrove and...
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac79/mondayssukc/a1-149.png?t=1283543581
As if I haven't been knowing that in the last 10 years...
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac79/mondayssukc/a2-127.png?t=1283543581
This made things a lot better, with the perma running shoes and a high frameskip rate I could actually play at a somewhat decent speed.
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac79/mondayssukc/a3-118.png?t=1283543581
I somehow managed not to get poisoned by Spinaraks. Somehow. Anyways, I then beat the rival with ease.
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac79/mondayssukc/a4-103.png?t=1283543582
I hate tuturials in Pokemon.
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac79/mondayssukc/a5-98.png?t=1283543582
I bit later, I caught Renalhon the Rattata on route 46. I did some grinding and...
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac79/mondayssukc/a6-87.png?t=1283543582
Suddenly Cherrygrove city didn't quite look like Cherrygrove city anymore.
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac79/mondayssukc/a7-79.png?t=1283543583
I did manage to enter the Pokemon center though...just to have the game crash at exactly this point. So I was wrong, this doesn't permanently work as well.
Spoiler:
Screw this, back to Ruby.

So, disregard everything in this post. Except for the fact that I am a terrible person.

Also, damned spoiler splitting, even though it's not as bad as it could be in this post.

Well, I started my SGX challenge.

I did all the Mr. Pokemon stuff and battled Silver. Carlos is just...ARGH! I had to restart about 5 times...

Anyway, I must be lucky because, no joke, I found a Dunsparce, caught it, and it was the ability I would want. But then, I lost Chikorita...darn you Rattata.

http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/dpiconani/dpiconani181.gif-Easy to obtain, and a great electric type to have.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/dpiconani/dpiconani248.gif-Had to think hard about this one, considering rarity, but NOTHING dominates Johto as much as T-tar. It has beautiful typing and accsess to a lot of moves.

Also I need help, should I raise a Ponyta (I need a fire type) or a Naive Cranidos(as naive is +speed which Rampardos badly need)

OK, whoa! Dunsparce is pwn. At least in SGX he is.

Go with Cranidos.

My Dunsparce is still the same, btw.

I find Pidgeot to be an at least decent Pokemon in any other generation than 1. Here, Wing Attack only has 35 power, so the highest powered move Pidgeot learns by level is Quick Attack and its only other offensive options are recoil and 2 turn moves. And Rage, which is about the worst move in the game. Sure, Fly is good despite its inaccurary and there is Mirror Move (which I dislike in Nuzlocke runs, but it would maybe be an interesting option), but that just isn't enough.
With 60-power-Wing Attack and normal-type options like Return or Secret Power, Pidgeot is certainly a good in-game Pokemon to use outside of generation 1, but here it sucks.

I'm currently doing a SoulSilver Nuzlocke challenge myself. I'm doing a comic too on my DeviantArt, which starts here: http://dragon-ryder.deviantart.com/#/d2wzj6e

I'm extremely slow though. D:

I forgot to say all the others I had caught...

I had caught a Rattata, Hoothoot, and a Caterpie.

Anyway, I trained Dunsparce and Rattata until the level that Rattata learned Hyper Fang. Remind to never underestimate Rattata's Hyper Fang. He OHKOd Falkner's Hoothoot and 2HKOd his Pidgeotto.

My Team:
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/dpiconani/dpiconani020.gif Raticate, Lv. 21
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/dpiconani/dpiconani206.gif Dunsparce, Lv. 18

Their nicknames are gonna be Pari (If you know what that's a reference to, go you) and Ratty.
