Manly Tears - Most Depressing Moments in Anime

...none of them will be on my list, I'm sure, but because I'm a softy, here are my tearful moments:

Code Geass
1. Refrain (The episode). The reasons for this are quite obvious...
2.
Spoiler:
The three biggest deaths in the series. Yeah, I'm pretty sure you know WHICH three I'm talking about. All three caused much tears. Well, except the last one. That was more of an "OHMYGOD" moment.

Azumanga Daioh
1. The episode that ended with them all running off into the field happily. Tears of joy, there...
2. The end. The episode did such a good job of reminding you why you loved the characters.

So yes, share your moments of Manly Tears.

Weeaboo Name August 15th, 2010 2:59 PM

Hmmmm for me there has been a few. Totally manly tears (not sobbing into my pillow like a little kid)

Clannad After Story had me in tears 3 times:embarrass;
Spoiler:
>When Nagisa dies after giving birth to Ushio.
> When Okazaki finally tells Ushio about Nagisa.
> Also the scene when he takes Ushio out and she dies in the snow.

The end of Grave Of The Fireflies.

Been choked up about a number of other shows but those are the only ones i've actually cried over.

Stop laughing.

Shanghai Alice August 15th, 2010 3:07 PM

GotF actually was pretty sad.

Then you watch Schindler's List.

Hmm... There was one other for me, but I can't seem to remember...

Ah, Lain.

The end of Lain was kind of... Bittersweet.

Also,
Spoiler:
I admit to laughing my head off during Euphemia's Massacre. It was utterly hilarious in every way possible.

Then Zero came in and shut me up.

Aether★ August 15th, 2010 3:07 PM

Only DB/Z sad moments made me cry badly:
> Krillin killed by Tambourine
> Goku teleports himself and Cell to North Kaio planet, then gets blowed by Cell
> Vegeta self-destruction and when his body changes into ashes scene.

Rapidash August 15th, 2010 3:11 PM

Grave of the Fireflies.

I cried like a child at the end of that film. I was genuinely expecting it to end differently

Naive little me

CLANNAD ~AFTER STORY~:
1.
Spoiler:
The revelation that Nayuki was a good father to Tomoya early on. Nayuki and Young Tomoya holding hands going into the sunflower field gets me every time.

2.
Spoiler:
Pretty much any scene with Nayuki thereafter. In fact one of the first scenes with him in CLANNAD made me choke up a little as well.

3.
Spoiler:
When Tomoya and Ushio embrace for the first time.

I think I have a family complex.

Teh Blazer August 15th, 2010 4:11 PM

Pokemon The movie (that one with Mewtwo)
~When Ash turned to stone and everybody started crying, I just died.

Naruto Shippuden
Spoiler:

1. When Obito died. That was pure man tears.
2. When Jiraiya died. More man tears.
3. When Hinata got "killed" by Pain. Oh how many man tears came out that time.

Yep, these are probably some obvious ones and I'm sure there are more from other anime I've watched.

Alice August 15th, 2010 5:47 PM

I've honestly never cried while watching an anime... not to say it doesn't effect me at all. The saddest moment for me is when a great anime finally ends... especially Azumanga Daioh, and Lucky Star. (I have seen a few sad ones, don't be fooled by those two examples lol.)

I can't imagine how I'll feel if pokemon ever ends... lol. (I feel sad just thinking about it... :'()

Jordan August 15th, 2010 6:23 PM

I'm tempted to say pretty much half of the major events of Clannad and Clannad ~After Story~...but those weren't manly tears. They were emotionally charged, affectionate girly tears that I shed. I did shed a few "man tears" in a few moments in Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen, including when Kenshin and Tomoe first met and the ending. Oh, and Tengenn Toppa Gurren Lagann's whole second arc.

Weeaboo Name August 15th, 2010 6:36 PM

Loving the fact that i wasn't Clannads only victim here.

Wings Don't Cry August 15th, 2010 8:32 PM

One Piece, Nico Robin's 3 episode long past, especially how it was building up to it and you knew something was going to happen. Also pretty much the first few episodes of Aishteruze Baby, I still miss the yellow hat and don't even get me started on the manga.

Yuoaman August 15th, 2010 9:01 PM

Grave of the Fireflies, holy crap I wasn't expecting that.

Livewire August 15th, 2010 11:54 PM

Whoahoho, guys, use spoiler tags. Strangely enough, a few arc-enders in Gintama also had me in teary-eyes, like the fireworks episode.

Chad - August 16th, 2010 5:47 AM

I forgot about the spoiler things. I edited my post.

Spoiler:
When Nagisa died in Clannad. I did not particularity cry, but I was a little bit depressed.

Graceful August 16th, 2010 5:50 AM

I cried in the episode about Ichigo's mom and how she died and Ichigo trying to avenge her in Bleach. The end got me, with Ichigo injured and Rukia looking over him and the flashbacks.... *cries*
And in the My neighbour Totoro movie when mei goes missing.

Charizard★ August 16th, 2010 6:24 AM

1. Angel beats!
I cried a lot during it, in many different parts of the anime.

2. H20 Footprints in the sand
I cried during the ending.

3. 5 centimeters per second.

It was just sad D:

Eucliffe August 16th, 2010 6:50 AM

At the end of Angel Beats!, I bawled. I knew it was gonna be bittersweet, but I'm kind of emotional, so yeah.

And then there was the end of Kotomi's arc in CLANNAD (I'll start After Story soon, I promise). Being bittersweet as well, I was crying for a bit.

And while 5cm per second didn't make me cry, I was a bit on the depressed side for a while.

Oh, and I kind of cried with Grave of the Fireflies. None of Miyazaki's other films are as depressing, so I wasn't expecting that sort of outcome.

Finally, as I am reading Elfen Lied, there are points in the manga where I almost cried because of how hard some of the characters have it, but I refrained from doing so.

Charizard★ August 16th, 2010 7:02 AM

Forgot to add-
Elfen Lied. The ending was perfect, sad but perfect.

Cherrim August 16th, 2010 7:17 AM

I cry a lot in fandom. :'(

5 Centimetres per Second
I tend to cry through the latter half of the first episode because it's the most real part for me. Everything else still makes me sad but omg the first episode just packs such a punch.

The Place Promised in Our Early Days
The ending makes me cry. n_n; And also the part when... main-character-guy just misses what's-her-face in the hospital and is standing in her room. (I swear I love this anime I'm just really bad with names.)

Ayashi no Ceres
The ending makes me cry. :( Or it did when I watched it like 6 years ago.

Gurren Lagann
THE ENDING. OMG. ;_;

Pokémon
Spoiler:
Pretty sure the 8th movie made me cry. :( That's the one with Lucario, right? Yeaaah when Ash "dies" again and Pikachu starts crying... I kinda lost it too. ;~;

AIR TV
I really didn't even like this and didn't care much about the characters. Still cried in the last episode. Though I am blaming this one on the fact that I was kind of in a bit of a depression when I watched this. :( So I was more prone to crying at random anyway! I swear!

I really thought there was more but I don't recognize anything else on MAL that made me cry. I want to see Grave of the Fireflies because I've heard such amazing things about it and I'm sure that'll have me bawling. ><;

Taichi August 16th, 2010 8:36 AM

I read the topic and it said most depressing. What's more depressing than Bokurano? OMG that thing is leaves you down in the dump for a long time.

Narutaru is probably worse, although I haven't watched either one.

I read up on info about Bokurano and found it so depressing, I just skipped to the last 3 chapters to see how it ends. Bokurano is said to make Evangelion look like Care Bears.

The author of these mangas is one depressed man. I think we can agree on that.

If you don't cry during this scene, you are either soulless, or very jaded...

I wept for her, I did...
