Wow. It's been a really long time since I've been in a forum about pokeymanz.

Let me introduce myself.

I don't go by any specific names, so you can call me by any variation of my username.
I really, really like saying naughty words, but since you guys don't like them apparently, I'll try my hardest to not say them.
I also have a rather dry and morbid sense of humour.

Basically, I joined this forum to learn about ROM scripting and hacking. Since these little pokescripts (or whatever you want to call them) look and feel like a dumbed down C derivative, I figured I could get some good scripting practice by working with ROMs.
The end-goal of my time here is to finish a (mostly) clean and bug free game and to learn a fairly basic scripting language.

Practice is practice, after all.

(I'd also really appreciate it if someone could tell me what language the scripts are based on. Like I said, it feels like C, but I'm probably wrong.)

Python, eh? Well, that clears things up quite a bit. Thank you, I think that learning about this is going to be quite a bit more easy.

Now if only I could figure out how to "empty" the game of its content...
(lolno, that's probably an awful idea)

Welcome to the forums! I like saying naughty words, too :O

Anyways, I think that the syntax of the scripting language is a little, tiny bit based of C. Declaring a function in this SL, is a little similar to Python/Ruby and declaring a variable is also somehow like Ruby ($ or @ before the variable name). There are two 'types' of scripting languages here. One is XSE, and it's most popular here, and PokeScript, which is now a little obsolete. XSE basically simplifies things by giving names to raw commands and is faster in compiling, which is better for scripting users, so I suggest trying out XSE.

Well, I hope you enjoy your time here, and read the rules.

Actually, there's a hacked engine somewhere in the Toolbox section, that cleared up all scripts from the ROM. I don't know if it erased something else, though. You can ask in a questions thread in the ROM hacking section.

Wherp-a-Derp August 23rd, 2010 12:48 AM

Oh wow, really? I was just joking--I didn't realize that someone had actually extracted the engine.
I guess I should head on over there once I'm done familiarizing myself with the forums.
(I keep wondering where the ratings are, but then I go "oh yeah this isn't FP")

Where does one post their artwork? I've seen the Pixel Art section, but as far as I can tell there isn't really a "durr post your artsy stuff here" subsection. Could someone be so kind as to direct me there?

awww yeah

I think I'm going to like it here, naughty words or not.

Before I forget, could someone give me a basic overview of what content isn't allowed in images? I looked in the etiquette guide but I only really found a general "don't post porn" entry.
Just wondering because sometimes I like to draw and post deliberately stupid pictures of Dead Space monsters.

Hiidoran August 23rd, 2010 6:23 PM

The general rule of thumb is if you have to ask, chances are you should just skip out on posting it here on PC. Just try and remember that we don't really encourage anything more than PG... and rarely PG-13. Disabling indecent images (aside from porn, of course), is kinda up to the discretion of the staff member who finds it.

Not that we got that outta the way...

Your user name. It's amazing.

Seems like you're quickly getting the hang of the whole ROM hacking scene. Good on ya. :D

Wherp-a-Derp August 24th, 2010 2:03 PM

I have another stupid question.

Can we make megathreads? That's one of the things we do back in FP-land to save space in places like the General Discussion and General Games Discussion.
I took a quick glance at some of the sub-boards here and couldn't see any.
The basic idea over on FP is to make a super-content rich OP and then everyone just discusses the finer points of the topic until the thread auto-locks.
... Or a mod comes and locks it because the thread was just generally a bad idea (like a holocaust megathread).

We've had crazy topics over there like the "Unexplained Radio Broadcasts Megathread" and the "Generally just [freaking] Creepy Stuff-Thread" and then my personal favourite, the "Mass Effect Megathread v. Shibbey is [lame] UGuughuGUhughughughuu".

Wait... do we have a General Discussion board here (or something like it)? I kinda want to make the PC version of the Unexplained Broadcasts thread. :V

Also, I take it we can't get dubz here? :V
Or post image macros?
