what game version do you prefer? Gold or Silver?
i prefer silver.. i don't realy know why but i like it more..
thats way i buy SoulSilver for my DS.. what about you? |
I got both games for my birthday years ago but I always had a preference for Pokémon Gold. Ho-oh was my favourite Mascot of that series. I got HeartGold for that very reason. :P
I prefer Gold, I really like the concept of Ho-oh, thats not to say Lugia isnt awsome because I think he is, but I prefer Ho-oh and spend most of my time in Ecruteak because its buildings remind me of the temple I used to visit as a kid. Though in reality both games are so alike it doesnt really matter to me.
Gold.
idk why, probably because I played it first and just got used to it. Somehow, when I played Silver, the "feel" was different. |
I prefer Silver, because I like Lugia much better.
Gold. I liked the sprites better ;D! Though, I got Soul Silver this time around
Definitely Silver...mostly 'cause I liked Lugia at the time, and didn't know about Ho-Oh. Even though I do know about Ho-Oh now...I still like Lugia more.
Silver. <3
I almost always buy the games based on which color or stone is prettiest, which worked out in the case of G/S because Lugia >>>>> Ho-oh. Quote:
Silver because of Lugia and the better version exclusives. Also IMO a greater number of the sprites looked better in Silver than in Gold.
I prefer Silver simply because I like Lugia best. xD
I started out with Gold and its been always my main game to focus on. Same goes for HG since it makes sence from my past.
I chose Gold initially, but I think I prefer Silver purely for the selection of version-exclusive Pokemon available.
Gold. Only because it was my first Gen II game. Also because I'm Autumn! :P
Silver because it was the third pokemon game I ever played, first of this generation. Although, I like the pokemon in Gold much better. The favoritism of Silver is simply due to nostalgia.
Silver. I don't care too much for the Legendaries.
Skarmory >> Gligar Donphan = Ursaring Persian > Primeape Ninetales < Arcanine ...so Silver wins by a little bit. I love Donphan. STAB Earthquake with 120 Base Attack is a beautiful thing. Also, elephants rock. |
Gold. No doubt about it.
Maybe because that was the first Pokémon game I've ever actually owned (and the only one, if I don't count the R/B/Y Pinball). Also, Gligar is made of win. Ho - Oh > Lugia. Arcanine >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ninetales. |
I got Silver first but I like Gold more since some of the sprites are really bad in Silver, not bad just they look like a completely different Pokemon.

As silver being the first pokemon game I played and beat,
I would have to say Silver. |
i prefer gold alot more, its more fun and i dno just the places u have to go and etc. is more exciting
I like gold better. Sprites and everything. like places you can visit.

And for me it has to be Gold, as it was the one I first had, though I admit that Silver's sprites were of better quality for the most part. |
Gold, because I want a high level Lugia.
Gold.
It was my first game ever and well, the Bell Tower (idk I forgot the name) was awesome and I loved exporing it. I've never played Silver, but I do know that back in the days of the graphical abilities of Game Boy's being limited... that the whirl islands were less appealing than the tower. Plus, that tower is one of my memories as a child or something, idk. As for their remakes, Silver's animation for the islands wins over the tower, so yeah. |
Silver. I always prefer silver anything over gold because, to me, gold feels like fake or wannabe.
Silver, but mostly because it was the very first Pokemon game I ever got (next to 1 or 2 N64 games). I also like it because a lot of the sprites look better (expecially Celebi which can be obtained via Celebi Egg Trick which I only recently learned about) and because my favorite Pokemon (Ho-Oh) is the highest-level Pokemon in the game. But mostly because it was my first game. *nods*

Gold, for the following reasons:
1. Gold is just a more vibrant color to me than Silver 2. I prefer Ho-Oh to Lugia- more colorful and birdlike, although Lugia isn't at all bad. 3. Except for Mankey, and with the Phanpy and Teddiursa lines being a draw, I prefer the Gold exclusives (especially Growlithe-nothing wrong with Vulpix, but I could never get over its hair, which to me looks alot like a 60's style hairdo). Silver is a good game regardless, but Gold will always be my preference. |
Either is fine. I bought Silver before even considering buying Gold, though.
i prefer gold just cause i got that instread of silver
I like silver, mostly because Lugia is one of my favorite Pokemon!:)
I prefer Silver because there are better pokemon in it and you get Ho-oh at a much higher level.
Silver. Lugia with Aeroblast=Awesomeness.
It used to be Silver up until some months ago. I always have preferred Lugia over Ho-Oh and I still do, but I recently found out Heart Gold is more canon than Soul Silver... But we're not talking about fourth generation here. So, why I preferred Silver, is because I played it first. I got them both at the same time, but I started with Silver, and I got so used to it, that when I played Gold, it left some weird aftertaste in my mind. I know it's weird, everyone has a little bit of an autist in him. Also this happened a long long time ago, haha.
it's hard to decide which i would rather have. i have heartgold, but i also have old silver.
I like Gold version more because (although I think that Lugia is better than Ho - oh), I like the artwork more in Gold. Pokemon like Feraligator and Gengar simply look better in Gold version than in Silver, imo.
I bought silver when it came out many years ago. I've always liked it over gold for some reason, but eventually my friend game me gold. Don't you just miss the GB days lol
I liked gold better but I played bother of them I really like Lugia better than ho oh though
i prefer gold becouse of ho-oh
I prefer Silver. :) Firstly, my mum bought me Silver when it came out, so it is very nostalgic for me, but I prefer Lugia over Ho-Oh anyway. :) It just looks cooler in my opinion... :) I also prefer some of the versian exclusives... e.g: Ledia, Skarmory...
Silver has better Pokemon art, but Gold has better Pokemon, for the most part at least. I have Gold, so nostalgia makes that one the preferable version.
I love both Gold and the remake HeartGold. Mainly because Gold is my favourite colour. But in silver (when it first came out) Skarmory was only available in silver and he was a new steel type. That was my only regret with getting Gold! My friend got silver cos he likes Lugia!
I loved Silver. Yeah, Gold and Silver were pretty much the same games, but I played Silver first. I got my hands on Gold from my friend a few years after I got Silver, and I enjoyed playing both, but I liked Silver more. I ended up getting HeartGold, though, since my friend bought it for me as a gift. They're pretty much the same thing, anyway. XD
I prefer silver over gold just because silver was the first game i got from this generation. Also, I much prefer Lugia over Ho-oh
Gold, cause I always have the opposite game of my brother. He started first, but I finished the game first.
I like Gold, but not for any really solid reason. I don't care about the different legendaries, the version exclusives, etc. Gold was my first of the two and the one I used the most, so it's automatically my favorite.
I don't truly know which one I prefer, because me and everyone else I knew growing up had Gold. Looking back, though, I might have preferred Silver just because I like it's version exclusive Pokemon more than Gold's.
I got Gold so I'm naturally biased towards it. :O
However, while playing Silver, I found that I just prefer the sprites of Pokemon on Gold more. Aeroblast, despite its awesomeness, just doesn't make up for it. |
=( not only does the title not have but nobody has posted it either! the answer is clearly crystal version! not this gold or silver with brown sneasels and sprites that don't move
I prefer gold because you get lugia at level 70. :P
I prefer both actually, I don't think there's much difference between the two, only that the legendary you'll get is different, either, Lugia or Ho-OH!
Silver. I've been playing it since I first got it. I like it because you get Lugia at a level 40, and you only get Skarmory (I have to have one on my team).
I like them pretty much both the same. But I guess I'll say gold. :)
I'd say Silver, since that's what I played when I grew up while my brother played Gold. :p
PatJamma- You're absolutely right!
Yeah, I was 'bout to say 'What, no love for Crystal?' Moving sprites. The ability to catch BOTH Lugia and Ho-Oh? And the first Pokemon game to have a female trainer option? See where I'm going with this! |
I think Gold. Because that was the first game of that generation that I played, and you can't catch Growlithe or Mareep in Silver, can you? I might remember wrongly.
The only thing I thought was better with Silver was the Pokémon sprites. I loved that there were different sprites between the versions, and I'm sad they don't do that nowadays. |
I liked Gold better. I always thought of Gold as being a "more valuable" metal than Silver at the time, which may have influenced my thinking, but I suppose the most important factor was that Gold was the game that I was given first (whereas I didn't pick up Silver until a year later). I have a lot of memories on Gold (first completed Pokedex, first fully-trained "team," etc.), so I'm much more partial to Gold. I bought both HG and SS, though, and enjoy both games.
Ill say gold because it was the game I got after R/B/Y. Plus I like the version exclusives more than the ones on silver. ;)
Silver. Not only did I like Lugia better, but I just like the color/metal of Silver better than Gold (all my jewelry is silver XD). Because of that, I of course got SoulSilver.
Silver for me :D I prefer some of the pokemon in it, such as Ninetales :D:D Plus I had it first so it just means more to me.
Silver, mainly because I got it before Gold. Also, I loved Lugia at that time, so I needed to get Silver because Lugia was on the box.
I got both on release day, because I can never decide.
Every generation so far, I've bought both copies because I'm very indecisive. BUT. I prefer Silver.. just because I started on that one first on my Lime green GBC (: |
Gold.
It was the version I had for the Second Generation, I preferred the colour over Silver and I preferred the sprites in the game, which were more friendly looking, Silver's looked a little strange and more alien. I still like Silver though, but I love Gold more. |
i got them both but i prefer silver for a few reasons. lugia and also silver is one of my favorite colors.
I prefer Silver more. I like the Pokemon that are only available in that version more then in Gold. Though mostly because I never played Gold as I never had the chance to buy it.
It worked for me when all was said and done. |
silver for me <3 my brother got gokld and i always liked silver better <3 better pokemon!
Am I the only one who wants both here? XD;
Gold for the win. Suprised? Eh you shouldnt. It was my very first pokemon game. Even though I didnt know how to play it (let alone get past youngster Joey at age 6) I still enjoyed my 2 town sweep. Everyone else in my class had Silver, and my cousins also had Silver. I would say: Why does that house have windows and mine doesnt?
I never understood that until I got sapphire and completed that, then went back to Gold and finish it. Gold brings back some good memories. |
Originally I liked Gold more, but now I like Silver more. Before it was mostly because of the sprites in Gold, now it's mostly which Pokemon are exclusive to Silver. :P
Gold version because Ariados is so much better than Ledian.
I like Silver better because the sprites were better than Gold's. An example is Pikachu's sprite.
Gold, purely for sentimental Reasons.
I prefer silver...except I lost both my cartridges years ago. It was the first Pokemon game I ever got, too.
Gold, I hated getting poisoned by Weeldes in Silver. ;;
Plus, sentimental values as well, I got it for Christmas one year~ Found my first shiny there as well. ^^ |
Lugia during flight at night...so soothing.
I prefer Silver sprites over Gold Silver ! |
I like silver just because I think the color is more appealing than gold and I like Lugia better than Ho-oh
Silver; simply because it was the 2nd ever Pokemon game I ever owned :'3
I bought it pre-owned since like I used my own allowance >_> I was like 5 or something... But the pre-owned game was at the beginning with a character named Silver and a Squirtle named Bubbles :3 They had obviously hacked it in, but I didn't care. |
I prefer Gold that's why I bought the remake Heartgold.
Silver! Although I did buy both versions when they came out. (they were my first Pokemon games C: ) I found I played Silver significantly more than gold; not sure why.
Silver, just because it was the first game that I've ever owned. Out of all of the games in the store, Silver caught my eye. :)
Plus, I use to be obsessed with water-types so I loved the concept of Lugia. |
I've played both, and really enjoyed it, so I have to go with both. XD
Easily has to be gold, but I prefer lugia. So I prefer the game gold but if the question was what legendary is better, I'd have to say Lugia :)
I prefer Gold becouse of Ho-Oh
Guys anyone likes Crystal?
Silver, was my second Pokémon game :).
For nostalgia purposes and some Pokemon, Silver is my preference (you can get Vulpix early on in Union Cave, and I don't really care for Sandshrew). Otherwise, I don't really care.
even though I got both of them at the same time when I was a child, I liked Silver better because the sprites were better and Lugia looks better than Ho-oh
:t354:TG |
I prefer Gold, and then Crystal.
Gold was the one I was given, my brother got stuck with Silver. I think we actually had a fight over who would get what, and I'm glad my mom told me to suck it up and take the Gold, because I loved Ho-oh and it also had better exclusives. And then Crystal is a close close close second, like, I loved that game. I was given it as a birthday present because my brother stole my gold game and then lost it down one of the vents in our trailer, and crystal gave me my second love. Suicune~ I can't stand Silver because it was what my brother played, and I dislike my brother. Also Lugia is ugly to me. I am biased. Which is funny because I'm in love with water pokemon, but I hated it. |
I prefer Silver because it was the second Pokemon game I ever got, so there's an emotional attachment. However; my copy stopped working some years ago, and I bought a used Gold version (nobody had silver)
I'm finding that I may enjoy it more due to Ho-oh being the story-legendary, even though I can get both. :D |
I like gold's version exclusive Pokemon better so I would have to go with that one even though silver was the first of the two I got.
Silver. My reasoning is the same as everyone elses... But looking back now and looking out from under my massive nostalgia glasses (hehehe) I do think Gold has some things I would have appreciated in Silver, namely, Mantine. Silver had Delibird which I didn't care for, but it also had Panphy, which I have yet to use but I think is awesome... And Lugia >>> Ho-Oh
Silver
Reason: I never owned Gold. I've borrowed it, but it's not the same. Plus, my awesome Kadabra's on Silver. :D |
I prefer silver just because it seemed more "smooth" than gold if you know what I mean. Crystal still beats both, moving sprites anyone?
I'll always prefer Silver, since it's my favorite color, and I played Silver (and Red) during a rough time in my life. So yeah, that game means a lot to me. :) Plus I like the Silver sprites better.
I like Lugia more than Ho-Oh so that's while I'll always pick Silver but now that I think about it, that doesn't really matter because you can get them both in both versions. I still pick Silver anyway...
Gold ftw. :D
I like Ho-Oh more than Lugia also I've always loved the Gold exclusives. :D |
silver, i was never one for ho-oh, and i love lugia to great levels.
I had pokemon gold for my gameboy colour but I would probably buy SoulSilver for the very sane reason of I wear Silver Jewelery.
Oh I wish I were kidding. |
I would prefer both but mostly heartgold because you see more pokemon than soulsliver.
Silver has Lugia, which in my opinion is so much cooler that Ho-oh.
Gold, because I prefer Ho-Oh over Lugia. Although I hate both Pokemon, I can tolerate Ho-Oh more.
