The league is set up for an interesting end to the season now.
United V Chelsea (possibly for the title) next week. I would have preferred to have pretty much sewn up the title by now though. Anyway, the Schalke match should be first priority at the moment. |
Consecutive promotions for my team after we beat Portsmouth and Cardiff lost to Boro.
PREMIERLEAGUE HERE WE COME!! |
One of my friends is a massive Norwich fan, and pretty much didn't sleep all of last night, he was so happy! Congratulations!

Amazing how in six (?) seasons, Norwich have went from Prem to L1 and back to the Prem. |
Barcalona are just another class at the moment who saw messi's second goal against madrid top quality :)

Summary: Barcelona had more posession, more shots on target (at least two times more), Valdés didn't need to save a single ball, and they scored once for an overall 3 goals. Madrid beat the CL record for "fouls on a single game" and "fouls on a single player (Messi) on a game". Casillas saved 5 clear shots and several players deserved to have got a second yellow (Carvalho, in fact, did his best to get the second one several times). They had three shots on target, and scored one.
They also had a shot on goal after Ronaldo had tackled Mascherano down (it could have been also a foul on Ronaldo originally). It was disallowed before Higuaín even shot the ball. But it's clear for pretty much everybody here in Madrid that they have been painfully robbed by the referee, Barça, UEFA, FIFA, and Unicef. So yeah, Doing my best to avoid talking to most of my friends today as they are eager to shout at me for being brainwashed by the evil catalonians. |

Anyway, MANCHESTERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR UNNNNNNNNNNITTTTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!! You know a team shouldn't be in the semis when Gibson & Anderson score past them. Gibson was something special tonight though, which is unlike him. We probably have no chance in hell of winning the final but whatever. :D |

And good luck, and may the best one win! I expect an entertaining final, really, between the best two European sides nowadays. |

It should be a pretty interesting final as long as we don't end up playing hoofball like in 2009. |

I just had to post that when you said 'hoofball'... but I'm setting a bad example! Erm... my friends said the Man U game was quite good; 6-1 on aggregate seems like quite a decisive victory! |

It certainly was a decisive victory, I didn't catch much of the first leg but Schalke were played off the pitch in the second by a second string. |
Schalke were too horrible in both legs, albeit they showed some offensive mentality a little bit in the second leg at Old Trafford. The goals scored by Manchester were too easy; hadn't it been for Neuer's mediocre handling this game, 4 goals wouldn't have been scored, and that easily. Neuer surprised me last night - I expected a lot more from him, although he did make some superb and difficult saves to make up for his slip-ups. Schalke were pretty much outplayed by a rampant United, who had a good night.
Predicting Schalke would have beaten Manchester away was ludicrous. They were overwhelmed by the idea of reaching the semi-finals for the first time in their career, hence cracked down. They worked hard to reach such a stage in this competition. They especially shined during their thrashing of last year's champions, Inter. The overall rating of this year's semi-final games isn't too high on my standards. I really expected more from the four teams, mainly Madrid and Schalke. Oh well, at least we got an interesting final to look forward to; I'm rooting for none. Seriously, although Barcelona are blatant favorites, I'll bet Manchester United will give them a good game, with a hint of revenge escorting them. |
Okay guys, a riddle: what's the team that has won today, is one point away from winning the League and will try to get a double in the CL final in a few weeks?
It should be easy to guess. |

Both are effectively one point away from winning the league. :P |

Just a fun coincidence. |
Well, league title wrapped up finally today.
Bit of mixed emotions really though as then City won the Fa Cup. Two weeks to the big one. :D |
Congratulations to Manchester United and Manchester City (not a united or city fan though) for winning the Premier League and FA Cup respectively.
I don't support any teams but I really hate Chelsea a lot. Especially the owner, Roman (something?). |
Big day in English football today; the relegation battle. |
Indeed it is - quite a lot at stack (well, mainly in terms of $$$ but hey!) for the clubs - always interesting to see how that turns out.
|
La Liga already ended- these are the results:
Winner: Barcelona (96) CL Group Stage: Real Madrid (92), Valencia (71) CL Play-off: Villarreal (61) EL Play-off: Sevilla (58), Athletic Bilbao (58) EL Qualifying: Atlético Madrid (58) _____________ Relegation: Deportivo La Coruña (43, after 20 years), Hércules (35, right after promotion), Almería (30, after 5 years). Yesterday 6 teams were fighting to avoid the last spot, but Valencia quickly beat Depor (Aduriz, min. 4) and set everything straight pretty soon, and becoming the first team to ever get relegated in Spain with 43 points. It will be a pleasure for Madrid since Deportivo had only lost to Madrid at home twice in the last 20 years. Promotion to La Liga: Betis, Rayo Vallecano. The last spot will be decided after a play-off round. |
Well, that was one hell of a final ending to the Premiership. Results on the final day are: |
Sad times indeed, I was looking forward for the trip to Blackpool next season. Using family to get cheaper football tickets is wrong.
|
Its a shame for Blackpool, I can honestly say I wanted us to lose today so they stayed up.
It was a crazy day though, in about 5 minutes the teams in the relegation zone changed completely. I'm glad Wolves stayed up but as I said I wish Blackpool had too. Even crazier is the fact that we may have two europa league representatives playing in our second division next season, Birmingham (Carling Cup) and Blackpool (possibly through fair play league although Fulham may have won it). Anyway, a great season for Manchester United and today Owen looked like he might still have something left in him. The CL Final to look forward to next. :D EDIT: Also the spanish league must have been even more of a two team league this season. 38 points between 1st and 5th, to put that into perspective, there are 38 points between 1st and 16th in the EPL. |
That sloppy back-four they call a defense cost Blackpool another chance in the EPL. I seriously hoped Manchester United lose today just for Blackpool to stay up, despite the very low probability of that happening - 55 points out of a possible 57 at Old Trafford is remarkable for United. Oh well, let's hope they can emerge back from the Championship next season.
As for West Ham, they simply were the weakest team this season. Despite the decent Winter signings to reinforce the squad, they failed to escape relegation. Birmingham, the Carling Cup champions, were another victim of the relegation battle. To win a cup against Arsenal then get relegated is utterly unacceptable; adding to that a possible Europa League place next season. On the other side, it's good for them to get relegated. Why? So they can learn how to attack properly, and that happens against lesser sides in weaker leagues. On another note, congratulations to Manchester United for the 19th title. In my opinion, they did not play the best football [Arsenal did], but they were definitely the most consistent, most ebullient, and dominant among the teams. Manchester City also made history by achieving third place, with the same points as Chelsea who took second place [by goal difference]. City might be a serious title contender next year. Tottenham entered EL, while Liverpool lost to Aston Villa, which I was thrilled about. I am not a fan of Liverpool, at all. West Brom made a remarkable comeback against Newcastle. That was ironic. Looking forward to next season. I'm anticipating an even more interesting EPL. |
