You aren't alone! -raises hand- Hard core Metroid Fan Boy right here. It's the only fandom of mine that rivals pokemon.

I've played and beaten all but Metroid II (which is dang hard to find!). And Other M isnt so bad if you've read the Metroid Manga and understand her backstory.

RASENCERO September 14th, 2010 11:40 AM

-Raises Hand-

Awesome
Metroid FTW!!!
I've got/played zero mission and Metroid Prime I,II,II
currently replaying II
I've read the Metroid Manga, something what all metroid fans should do, and so I am planning to buy Other M. but not yet.

Nice to see someone else who's read the manga. Other M tweaks it a bit actually to fit the story... But remember the chapter with the Raid on K-2L. That's all Ill say!

NidoKingdra September 28th, 2010 4:30 PM

Resuscitation time. I sorta lost track of time playing other M -guilty face- Anyway, I forgot to mention hunters in the OP. But it is my least favorite...so not a huge surprise. Working on prime 2 and 3, and planning to start metroid 2 soon. I have numerous times, but my moron brothers keep resetting it. Bleh.

RASENCERO October 5th, 2010 1:07 PM

lol XD

How is Other M? I heard its awesome
I haven't bought it yet...
Not sure when I will. Probably after my next exam :)

TheAppleFreak October 5th, 2010 3:02 PM

Ohaithar
I'm a huge Metroid fan. I have (and have beaten) the entire Prime Trilogy as well as Super, and I have Other M but haven't played it much.

And I've read the manga (most of it, anyways).

NidoKingdra October 5th, 2010 4:51 PM

Other M is definitely worth the price. It's pretty much my every dream come true, all bundled up.

I've read some of the manga, but never really got to finish. :( I lost track of the site I was reading it on.

Right now, I'm slugging my way through metroid 2...just beat that first Zeta metroid, which was surprisingly hard.

Lol, nice sig AppleFreak.

sirboulevard October 5th, 2010 11:09 PM

I really love Other M.

I would be playing Metroid II right now but it's f-ing impossible to find a copy.

NidoKingdra October 6th, 2010 12:41 PM

No luck on ebay/amazon? Maybe you should check frequently for it.

RASENCERO October 6th, 2010 1:24 PM

Have you tried downloading searching google for people who offer it online and will send it to you?
Actually, I am not sure if have ever seen/played Metroid II. I did play fusion and one other once as a demo, but I forgot which one...
It was quite some time ago. :P

NidoKingdra October 6th, 2010 1:51 PM

Hunters is the only one I can think of that a demo was released for.

ebay has some, but I prefer buying my games in person. Plus I live in a "high-tech" city that actually has a lot of classic gaming stores. They've been telling me that Metroid II is going through some sort of renassaince among gamers ever since Other M was announced.

RASENCERO October 7th, 2010 7:20 AM

It wasn't really a demo, I played it in some stored where it was set up so you could play it a little.

hmmm... maybe I should put metroid II on my to do list XD

NidoKingdra October 8th, 2010 7:25 PM

Renaissance indeed. I actually had played the game before Other M was announced, but if it makes a comeback, then maybe nintendo will FINALLY make a remake of it.

(Hadn't thought about that kind of demo, lol. What system was it?)

Esp1222 October 8th, 2010 7:28 PM

I'll join. I'm currently playing all 3 Primes on the Wii Trilogy. Love them so far. I read a review of Other M, and it said the game sucked. I don't know if I'm going to try it or not.

Welcome Dark Sceptile.

I say try it. While people moan about the story, the gameplay is solid and feels metroid-y. Plus Manthony Higgs alone makes it worth while. If nothing else, rent it just to try it out.

I think it was on the GBA. It was most likely Fusion.

There was a chronological list of metroid on wikipedia, with an synopsis for each game (after the jump). So after reading that I couldn't restrain myself anymore so I watched the intro scene of Other M on youtube.
I must say; Awesome!
It looks amazing and the controls look really well done!

NidoKingdra October 12th, 2010 12:24 PM

Other M. Not even half as bad as the whiners make it out to be. Welcome to the thread!!

I'm currently playing through all the games in chronological order. On prime ATM.

I did that just prior to Other M's release. It makes the series seem much more co-hesive.

Metroid FTW!

NidoKingdra October 17th, 2010 9:34 AM

Always. As for who, people who either have very high standards, and didn't like the story so much, or people who like to whine like little kids. >.<

It may be interesting to note that I have a Super Metroid hack in progress. I might post screenshots and such here as it progresses. I'll probably also make a thread in the section on romhacking.

Welcome to the thread!

For organizational purposes, since this is obviously not just gonna spurt out, I have edited the opening post.

RASENCERO October 17th, 2010 11:57 AM

Nice, but there is a double sentence somewhere in your post. Edit required :P
Banners would be awesome, yes.

*Currently hanging around Metroid Prime II: Echoes; Sanctuary Fortess.*
*Screw Attack Acquired*

I think I am getting Other M after I finish this one, since I already played Metroid Prime III: Corruption several times in a row.

*Scan completed, Luminoth technology detected*

That's my que, gotta go. ^^

NidoKingdra October 17th, 2010 12:18 PM

Found it, fixed it. I had originally had it on top, liked it better below. Copied and pasted, instead of cut and paste.

Got a banner done. Its ok, I suppose.

NidoKingdra October 19th, 2010 1:10 PM

Alright. They're all up there. Back to metroid discussion! I'm currently trying to early run the gauntlet in super metroid...keep dying, oh so very fun, and all for 2 missile tanks. But I want 100%, so...yeah. And I'm determined to do it. I always get so close.

sirboulevard October 22nd, 2010 4:29 PM

Currently, I'm on a break from playing Metroid. Mainly cause I want to try some of the more exotic death sequences in Other M and I loaned it out to a friend. I do have a topic though:

If Samus didn't have her suit or the Paralyzer, what melee weapon would you like to see her use?

Personally, I could see her using a Tachi.

Maraala October 22nd, 2010 5:20 PM

A Crowbar, yes

The best melee weapon you can have in a zombie apocalyse

NidoKingdra October 22nd, 2010 7:25 PM

I'd say, probably a whip, since I'm used to seeing it in Brawl. But other than that, I would have to say kunai/shuriken/senbon. Because she reminds me of a ninja.

RASENCERO October 24th, 2010 7:00 AM

I would also say a whip or some kind sword on a stick thing. I believe it's called a naginata?
I think ranged weapons would suit her the best.

NidoKingdra October 25th, 2010 1:39 PM

Yeah, I just can't see playing metroid without a gun. It would be so weird. And castlevania like, as well. And there are so many of those we don't need clones of em.

Maraala October 25th, 2010 1:41 PM

Other than the beams/missles/Paralyzer, Sammy can't imagine Samus using other ranged weapons

NidoKingdra October 25th, 2010 2:49 PM

Well, if it were something like a gauss rifle, I don't think I could say no. I mean, firepower is win, and gauss is even better.

Which gives me an idea for my hack...rapid fire plasma beam, maybe recolored blue and renamed.

sirboulevard October 26th, 2010 9:03 AM

... you mean the Hyper Beam?

Ok, well how about another topic then since this one's already gone through the motions.

Maraala October 26th, 2010 9:19 AM

Ok...uhmmmm... What is you favorite Metroid game?

Sammy's has to be Fusion for handheld and Corruption for console

RASENCERO October 26th, 2010 9:38 AM

that's a tough one
hmmm... lets see...
I'm only familiar with the prime series and zero mission
I liked all of them
Prime was just epic being the first one and all that, the feeling you get is the basis for the series
Echoes was an worthy succesor with more classic upgrades and awesome stroyline
Corruption was a bit to easy for my taste, but fortunately they invented hypermode ^^
very epic game.
Zero mission, also very epic
I think it would be...
Corruption!
The WII added a lot to the gameplay
and the overall combination of worlds, storyline, cutscenes etc was well balanced.
It was a bit short/smaller then the others, but nonetheless fun.

NidoKingdra October 27th, 2010 12:25 PM

Hyper beam...ehh, no. I'm not a big phazon fan, actually. (thus not having finished the prime trilogy yet)

I have multiple categories for this question.
Graphics/gameplay wise, Other M
Physics wise, Super metroid
But overall, Zero Mission

Yes, I kinda cheated...but It would probably be zero mission.

sirboulevard October 27th, 2010 5:54 PM

I have a three-way tie:
Super Metroid - Metroid Prime - Metroid:Other M

Maraala October 27th, 2010 6:19 PM

Sammy also likes Other M cause it's almost similar to a remake of Fusion for a console system

It could use more sectors and the Spider Ball, though

NidoKingdra October 28th, 2010 5:14 PM

Yeah...I didn't want it to be so similar to fusion. The only thing about that one I enjoy is boss fights, linearity is fail for metroid. Other M let me down on that aspect. I still like both of em though.

RASENCERO November 2nd, 2010 10:55 AM

After all this talk about older games, I decided to replay Zero Mission. I suddenly realized that was 5-7 years ago I last played it. :P I finished in 2-3 hours.
I enjoyed it, it was my first metroid game. I recognized a lot, especially from Other M footage.

To start a new topic:

What is you favorite weapon/Upgrade?

Mine is Screw attack/Hypermode.

TheAppleFreak November 2nd, 2010 11:21 AM

Favorite attack/upgrade?

Hmm... that's a little tough. I like the Screw Attack, the Speed Booster/Shinespark, and Super Missiles a lot (you can't go wrong with hyper-powerful ballistics, right?). However, even if it's only short-lived, the Hyper Beam is definitely really cool.

I wanna continue playing Prime 1 where I left off a few months ago. Other M distracted me from that game, and I never finished it. I also gotta play Prime 2 at some point or another.

Maraala November 2nd, 2010 2:23 PM

Speed booster and Spider Ball/Boost Ball, yes

/really loves the Spider Ball

sirboulevard November 3rd, 2010 12:17 AM

Best weapon/upgrade?

Best Weapon: Other M Power Bombs, 'cause you'll never know when you need a compact tactical nuke.

Best Upgrade: The Screw Attack, Speed Booster, Other M's Gravity Feature (try to deny her turning it on was not awesome)

NidoKingdra November 3rd, 2010 12:02 PM

Screw attack all the way. Nothing else compares. Ever.

Lumina November 6th, 2010 12:57 PM

I can has join?

I loveses Metroid, me. My favourite game is Metroid Prime, my favourite Beam is the Hyper Beam from MP3 because it is super-powerful, and looks cool, my favourite non-Beam move is the Grapple because it is just so useful, and what I think to be the coolest looking move is the Screw Attack in Metroid Fusion because it looks awesome.

NidoKingdra November 6th, 2010 8:33 PM

Hi, and welcome! Added your name to the list, I see you got a banner. All set then. I personally prefer plasma from MP1 over hyper beam, due to energy drain and such. But I agree, Hyper Beam is awesome.

What I think could have been a lot better about the prime series was the walljumping.
They had something good with that, but killed it by putting it in in like 3 places, total. Bleh.

Maraala November 6th, 2010 10:58 PM

Yep... WallJumping in MP2 was just plain horrible but it got better in MP3

Lumina November 7th, 2010 2:31 AM

I haven't played much of MP3, I've like, only just gotten the Hyper Beam. But yeah, Wall Jump in MP2 WAS crap. Would've been better if it was in more places, but oh well.

TheAppleFreak November 8th, 2010 3:58 AM

Eh, the wall jump system in ALL of the Primes was crap. I like the Other M model better, but it isn't as versatile as the Super walljump (but much easier to pull off).

Oh, I made a new Metroid theme! I think I'll try to make something for this fanclub at some point.

sirboulevard November 8th, 2010 3:35 PM

Liking the new theme AppleFreak. I vote "What's past is prologue" to be the new series motto in general. 'Cause it's very true dang it. Feds have gone from good guys to chaotic neutral anti-heroes at best, the Pirates are feral, the new found ambiguous canonicity of the Prime series (I still think they are, Nintendo seems to not think so as much on press releases), and basically everything about Samus, Mother Brain and Ridley.

Also, you guys remembah me? Right? (had to be done)

TheAppleFreak November 8th, 2010 3:51 PM

Speaking of "What's Past is Prologue:"
This, since the YouTube embedder is being annoying
I'm trying to rip the audio from this as we speak. It sounds awesome and it'll be the first Other M remix I have.

sirboulevard November 9th, 2010 12:11 AM

THIS. Samus's Voice Actress: Jessica Martin. Seen her in plays here in Seattle, and she is definitely an actress to look out for.

I watched that video; I had already inferred that she was talking in a flashback but now there's proof.

Other M probably just suffers from bad writing. Unfortunately, I might have lost my copy and I was only about halfway through the game, so...

aguinn99 November 12th, 2010 1:13 PM

Yes, of course you can join. Lots of prime discussion fun. Prime was one of the better games in the series, even though it broke away from the sidescrolling of previous games, and skipped out on walljump and screw attack.

On another note, I once again find myself wondering if we will ever see a remake of metroid 2.

Actually, yesterday my brother came across the game case that had Other M in it, as well as a bunch of other games. It was stuck behind some drawers in the last place we would think to look.

I'm not sure about a Metroid II remake; it's kinda the black sheep in the series. Although it introduced some elements into the series that would be brought back numerous times later on, it certainly wasn't the best. With the original Metroid, well that started an entire series. I figure the most we'll get out of Nintendo is a 3DS rerelease.

Also, this.

RASENCERO November 16th, 2010 10:05 AM

Its always in the last place you look, obviously >p

I wouldn't mind a MII remake, since I haven't played it and its not easy to find. But I don't see it happening anytime soon...

Apple, your theme = Awesome

Also, that voice actress does look a lot like a young Samus. Or is it just me?

Maraala November 16th, 2010 12:53 PM

I also would mind a MII remake either, seeing as I have never played that one, mhmm

RASENCERO November 17th, 2010 1:37 PM

Since we (well, most of us) haven't played all games; I've found these links
For more info:

Detailed Info
and
General plot's, click links for the complete story

NidoKingdra November 17th, 2010 8:17 PM

I for one HAVE played all the games. And if there was a black sheep to the series, it was fusion, not metroid 2. The only thing about metroid 2 was its graphics and music, as well as the gameplay being a little rough. A remake would remedy this, and it would be a more than welcome addition to the series. Fusion on the other hand, tells you where to go, all the time, and takes away exploration and substitutes it for difficulty. I still like fusion and other m, despite how they do this, but they just arent the same as the gems of the series. And that's my thoughts on the matter.

RASENCERO November 20th, 2010 12:32 PM

Nice, good to have an expert opinion. Did you read the manga?
I am curious about the reason why the metroids where created by the chozo.
Since in the manga the chozo discovered in a galaxy far away somekind of energy (or liquid something, I forgot) life-form that was consuming stuff and coming closer, therefore they created metroids to absorb it. We still haven't seen this thing. Unless it was Phaaze, but I doubt it.

Metroids were created by the Chozo because of the X Parasite threat. I guess it was just a minor design flaw that they were efficient murder machines. [/understatement]

RASENCERO November 20th, 2010 3:12 PM

Really? I did not know that. Wait, X parasite? That sounds familiar....
*checks wikipedia*
Ah, Fusion... I haven't played that one. -_-"
O wow, that has indeed a lot of potential for a sequal.
So in the end, Samus is a human who is genetically modified with Chozo DNA and eventually even Metroid DNA.
Efficient murder machines or not, Samus thought baby metroids were cute XD

NidoKingdra November 20th, 2010 4:57 PM

Lol...cute, yeah. But anyways, yeah, the metroids were created to prevent the X from taking over the universe one day. And when they were wiped out, they nearly did just that. I have read the manga, yes. I know the entire plotline, as far as it has been released. I do find myself hoping for a fusion sequel someday, but no more X. They canonically should all be dead now. So they better get something else going on. >.<

Well, I read an interview with Sakamoto sometime prior to Other M's release that said originally they were working on a post-Fusion game, but due to the fact there wasn't any link-up with the main storyline, it seemed to be very tacked on. So Other M was created to link the two sections of the story together. He also said that the next game would certainly be post-Fusion.

NidoKingdra November 22nd, 2010 2:17 PM

But who knows if that will happen. I hope so though.

RASENCERO November 24th, 2010 11:41 AM

Yeah...., but that would be an interesting story.
I hope they will incorporate some of the prime-series elements as well.

NidoKingdra November 25th, 2010 5:30 PM

I'm not sure how many of you guys are into speedrunning, but I figure I may as well make a 'best threadwide times' spoiler on the main page.

I'll have a few to contribute, and if any of you has a better one, let me know. (Please be 100% honest about this though. Thanks. ^.^)

I figure this is a good way to make this place more interesting. Please be good losers though guys, no getting upset if somebody beats your record. That's just how it goes. If you don't feel like you can handle that, please don't participate. I feel sure you guys would all be cool about it though.

I'll put up the top 3 for each game, and you guys can go ahead and submit. However, you may only hold one position per game, to give other people a position as well.

TheAppleFreak December 1st, 2010 6:31 PM

Well, since I had this raw file sitting on my desktop for a few weeks now and because I liked it in my sig, I decided to make a desktop of Samus Aran aiming her arm cannon at you!

Resolution is at 1440x990, and you can view a direct link of it here.

I do rather like the exposure on this; the warm orange came out really, really nicely IMO.

NidoKingdra December 1st, 2010 7:16 PM

I like it. The heat was pulled off perfectly. Kinda like you said. Its a pretty sick background. I'll probably have to put it on once I get a computer I am allowed to mess with.

TheAppleFreak December 2nd, 2010 4:31 AM

Wait, I just checked the linked version. It shouldn't be that small. Also, I noticed that it should be 1440x900, not 900. I'll fix that when I get home.

But glad to see you like it!

RASENCERO December 2nd, 2010 11:40 AM

Awesome!
It seems that I have found my new wallpaper.^^
A bigger version would be nice though...

Since nobody is posting "speedruns", I'll do some of mine.
They weren't done with the intention do a speedrun though.

I'm having some trouble getting it to upload at full resolution in Photoshop, so I'm trying imgur now.

This should work now.

NidoKingdra December 4th, 2010 5:33 AM

Well, it's just there if anybody feels like submitting anything. Nice times on the prime series by the way. I've only finished the first one so far, heheh. And my time was like 12 hours or somethin. I don't remember.

Anyways. Yeah, it looks like you got the picture working. Pretty cool. How did you get the original image, do you have some sort of capture device on your tv?

No, I went on YouTube and loaded up the Other M introduction video in 720p HD, then took a partial screenshot so I wouldn't have to worry about the progress bar on the bottom. It came out to 1280x719 pixels at pretty good quality; after that, I loaded it in Photoshop and iPhoto and abused the hell out of filters and visual effects.

TheAppleFreak December 5th, 2010 2:14 PM

SECOND POST: Well, I was digging through some images on my computer today and found a scan of Samus at Daiban that I had taken from the Gamestop preorder bonus. Thought I'd upload it, since it looks nice. Once again, I boosted the colors, did a little editing, and tried to remove some of the graniness from the original scan, but I'm not sure how good a job I did. I like it, but you guys might not.

Resolution: 1900x1270, because I just like those unstandard resolutions.

RASENCERO December 5th, 2010 2:49 PM

Tnx for the bigger one^^
It looks Awesome and fits perfectly as my wallpaper.

The second isn't really focused, its a bit blurry, but nonetheless not all that bad, actually.

TheAppleFreak December 10th, 2010 2:34 PM

So I was on another forum, where there are also Metroid fans, and one guy who I'm on good terms with told me about this. There are two things there of note: the first is an epic metal remix of the Tallon IV Overworld theme from Prime 1, and the second is a 6000x1690 image of Samus's ship on the overworld taken from the Phazon-infected caves.

I've cropped the image to fit on most monitors without stretching (3004x1690 resolution; it scales down to exactly 1920x1080 resolution, which is HD). It's below:

Metroid Metal and their entourage of epicness is kinda old news. Especially since this came out last month. You should hear their Varia Suite and Expansion Pack albums.

RASENCERO December 12th, 2010 9:27 AM

I bought Other M last Wednesday. Yay! XD And I just finished it! :P (Including Phantoon)
I must say, I quite liked it. It was way too short though. And a bit too easy...
It was very story driven, but it worked well. One thing that did annoy me was that to use missiles and such I had to switch the wiimote position and couldn't move/dodge while doing so. (also, the whole not using stuff until given approval was bullcrap). What I missed were the morphball upgrades like in Metroid prime. I really missed my boosterball...

Rating:
8,5/10
It was really pretty! :P

DoctorFred December 12th, 2010 2:06 PM

Can i join? Yeah, i'm a little late, but I love Metroid. I've played every game (the only exception is metroid 2, which i never finished, it just seemed to boring to me. -__-). As for Other M, yeah i have that too. It was a great game.

NidoKingdra December 12th, 2010 7:34 PM

There is no such thing as late. We are open to anyone and everyone. Always. ^^

Metroid Metal is like, legendary. So yeah, I knew. Love that stuff. The picture is pretty cool though, and it's the first I've seen it.

RASENCERO December 14th, 2010 1:50 PM

Welcome!^^

I somehow edited my previous post instead of making a new one. XD
Metroid Other M:
Time:
07:56

Ridley = Little Birdie XD XD XD
lol...

In theather mode there is a more then 2 hour movie. It was quite interesting to watch, but it skipped the sectors in a blink of an eye. It could have been it bit longer in these area's...
Actually, using my time, the time spend on playing the game -movie(cutscenes/cinematics) it's barely 5,5 hours. That is very, very short.....
The next one better be longer.

What do you think of the gameplay/play time, compared to other Metroid games?
I mean, It's is not like the Prime series.

NidoKingdra December 14th, 2010 2:18 PM

I rather prefer M-oM game engine over Prime's. It came a lot closer to the real deal. However, the game is fairly short, but still fun to speedrun, since you can skip cutscenes once you beat it. The problem is the flawed timer, it doesn't give you a final time.

Tossed my time in there as well, figured I ought to. Although it's estimated to about 11 minutes for the final sequence, which is probably fair enough. I wonder what the time would have looked like without cutscenes...heheh.

When it comes down to it, I believe that a game with 7-9 hours of gameplay is nice, and the ability to cut it down to under 5 hours (has been done) makes it even better.

DoctorFred December 14th, 2010 2:46 PM

Okay, i'm going to post my opinion on other M. Things i liked and didn't like.

Disliked
Spoiler:

Authorization system.

Basically, it was a horrible idea. The fact that Samus refused to use anything until adam authorized it was ridiculous. It's unbelievable how Adam didn't give us the Varia feature when we needed it, i had to go through about half an hour of getting damaged by lava, and finally adam authorizes it. maybe I can understand him not allowing the Power Bomb's use, but i still think he should have let us use it. hank you, its about time! Adam is by far the worst metroid character, imo. He also shot Samus in the back for no apparent reason towards the end of the game, and nearly killed her. You could've just shot the metroid, genius. What was the point of almost killing Samus?

The dissinclusion of the Chozo.

Alright, i read another guy's review on a metroid forum, which inspired me to write about this. The Chozo is the whole reason Samus is alive, yet she didn't mention them once. Not even once. All she talked about was Adam. If she's going to call anyone a father figure, it's Gray Voice, or even Old Bird.

The extremely long cutscenes.

Next to Adam, this is what i hate the most. Most of them were pretty good, but some were very pointless. I hate most of them because they are like 10 minutes long. Especially the one after beating Queen metroid when it explains about MB. Ugh, it was a horrible thing. The only good one was the Ridley one, although i think samus overreacted a bit when she saw ridley, she nearly fainted And for once, didn't listen to Adam, yay!.

Liked:

New enemies, and boss fights.

Overall, new boss fights were amazing. The ridley one was very fun. Especially on hard mode. Queen metroid was fun too. Nightmare was fun. But Phantoon was easily the most fun (if you haven't noticed all of these bosses are from earlier games, so i think nostalgia is overtaking me). The fact that he shot Eyeballs from his mouth was epic. I also loved doing the lethal strike on him.

Side-scrolling.

Pretty self-explanitory. When MP1 came out, it made me think Metroid as an FPS was going to Rock, and it did. Then when i played MP2, i realized i was wrong. I mean, it was a great game, it really was. But the first-person element was getting kind of boring, even a bit clumsy. Then came MP3. I do think, though, that with the Wii remote, the game actaully became more FPS-worthy, still not as good as our old-school Side-scrolling Metroids. The fact that they did this with Other M is a huge Plus in my eyes.

*Currently trying to think of more things i liked about Other M.*

NidoKingdra December 14th, 2010 5:05 PM

I find the ridley scene to be terrible, and completely off character. Samus was portrayed way too differently. I'mma get down to the nitty gritty.

Other M's engine, like I said, was great, however, here are some of the things that would have made it better.

REAL IBJ. I mean, I can bombjump to no end on metroid games, besides the prime series. Other M, I found, I could also, except that there is an invisible barrier to stop you from going too high. BIG FAIL.

Sequence breaking is killed off completely. This fails hard.

Space jump is a pain, and doesn't really take you up at all.

Your absolutely right, In the original Metroid/Zero Mission, Ridley visibly discinegrated and subsequently exploded in the lava, yet he comes back in Super Metroid, and samus isn't even surprised. In Other M, she's scared to death. She doesn't even react when Adam constantly screams in her ear, "SAMUS, DO YOU COPY? SAMUS, USE YOUR PLASMA BEAM" WHAT'S YOUR STATUS????!!! but the cutscene itself is still pretty entertaining, imo.

Spoiler:
Samus stumbles backwards, cowed. Then she turns into a whimpering little girl and gets mauled by Ridley until a big strong man steps in to save her — which is not hyperbole, but a literal description of what happens onscreen.)

I was really annoyed at this, too.

Yeah, i just wanted to clarify that... Other than that, i have not much to say. I guess i'll just wathc this club die now. :P

NidoKingdra December 18th, 2010 10:18 PM

Feh, die? It'll kick as long as I still breath, such is my nonstop dedication to the series.

But anyways, that comic is pretty much the only description necessary. Samus is a wimp in MoM. A non sequence breaking wimp. However, the power suit does look pretty spiffy.

On a totally unrelated note. [read as/insert shameless plug]
My hack is progressing well enough, considering the total overhaul I'm aiming for. Just a few bugs I'm sifting out. Or will be, when I get the only computer good at that back up and working.
/mumbles about crappy dying hard drives

RASENCERO December 25th, 2010 11:33 AM

You may incinerate, disintegrate, do head-shots, mutate or even corrupt us, but we shall never die! NEVER!
For in the end we shall be cloned!

I decided to get 100% on M: OM, and, well, it was rather easy...
If I got stuck, I ended up using speedbooster.

I got the feeling that, besides seeker missile and the helmet viewpoint, the Prime series where pretty much ignored. You wouldn't know it existed after playing M: OM.

Here's a new topic:
If we were to design a new weapon/upgrade/etc. for Samus in the next game, what would it be?
Or course it has to fit into the metroid world.

Merry Christmas!

NidoKingdra December 25th, 2010 6:30 PM

Beat to Merry Chrismas, cuz I didn't wanna double post. But nonetheless...MERRY CHRISTMAS METROID FANS!!!

As for an upgrade that we have made...err, would want to make. ;) I won't give anything away just now, but I have plans for that.

DoctorFred December 25th, 2010 7:27 PM

Here are some i thought up.

Cargo Suit - An optional upgrade. It allows samus to take less damage from enemies, but hinders samus' movement (e.g. Samus moves slower and jumps slightly lower)

Siphon claw - Works exactly like the Shock Coil, except it has limited ammo (correct me if i'm wrong, but if i remember correctly, the Shock Coil in MPH had unlimited ammo). And was made by the Chozo specifically for Samus. Cannot be used if samus' health is full.

If i had to choose one it would definitly be the Siphon Claw. I mean, the Shock Coil was awesome and really had great potential in my opinion, and should have been used for other metroid games...

Oh yeah, Merry merry Christmas, guys.

Fabi_ash December 30th, 2010 8:55 AM

Can I join this club?
I played every Metroid except the original and Zero Mission and I'm going to complete Other M on Hard mode and Metroid II.

NidoKingdra December 30th, 2010 9:14 AM

Certainly. I would recommend you play zero mission, as it is probably one of the best. ^^
