As for the encounter rate, I have found that actually walking helps a lot. I'm just so used to running without consequence that I've used way too many repels. :P
This might be something from HGSS as an NPC mentions how walking makes it less likely that you'll encounter a wild Pokemon iirc.

I think this new Version is a well rounded version :) I like it more than sinnoh which just had too much mountain ,
I like the different caves an all the different ways you can go on a single route , and the bridges .
I wish only that they had a rebattler thing like in the other versions. no proper side game and no rebattler makes it a bit hard to do a lot more after you have finished.

I like how some of the music reminds me of other games, such as the music in the abundant shrine sounds like zelda :)

I both love and hate the triple battling in White..I love it because it lets me use three pokemon <3 and that means I could easily train two pokemon up using it.. I dislike it because it feels like they were trying to top double battles, and it seems they could have done better :/. I also love the new pokemon, most of them are so cuuuute. And there is such an abundance of Grass types which I luuuuurve so much, and the graphics are amazing. A thing I dislike though is the battling :S. The moves dont look too good, unlike previous games..And the whole moving is alright I suppose, but I think they should have worked on battling a bit longer instead it seems like they tried to rush it and get it out there. Hopefully it will be better in the next game ;D.

I love rotation battles but I don't like that there are hardly any places t use them. not even online.

Unova one step forward two steps back?

First of all this is not a complaining thread.

IN unova there are lots of new things C-Gear,long bridges,Transfer Lab,new Elite Four style,Seasons and so on. With all these new things does anyone else feel like we lost more than we gained. In Unova we lost Contest/Pokeatholon,pokemon walking with you,old rod, saffari zone, underground and so on.I just would like to see how other people feel about this

TTC May 1st, 2011 9:43 AM

The pokeathalon is a big loss. I suppose White Forest / Black City is a great addition to make up for things like the Safari Zone though. I don't really care about any of the rest. That said, the C-gear is something that needs to be further developed. Anything that can be done in the rooms of a pokecenter should be able to be done on the C-gear. If they do something like that in future games, anything they dump is fine with me.

jigglyppuff8 May 1st, 2011 9:49 AM

The core gameplay of Get starter -> Beat Gym Leaders -> Beat Evil Team -> Beat Elite Four -> Battle Tower/Wi-fi/Catch em all remains unchanged. I could care less that all the little sidetracks have been lost or replaced. If anything, all the better that I don't get distracted by all the little sidequests so I can focus on the core more.

pokewalker May 1st, 2011 10:05 AM

Well I don't miss anything. Except the Johto Safari-zone. And the old-rod wasn't even anything, you could only catch Magikarps lol. I feel like B/W are the best games yet.

EDIT:500 posts!

big NATE alpha May 1st, 2011 10:11 AM

The only things I miss are Pokeathlon and PokeRadar. Other than that, they didn't really cut anything that I liked.

Derezzed May 1st, 2011 10:57 AM

I really do miss the Safari zone, I'm not a fan of White forest and would have loved some variation of the safari zone.

Alomar May 1st, 2011 11:26 AM

no Pokeathlon or safari is a huge loss, obviously.

I also think the underground needs to come back, / or secret bases.

dieter57 May 1st, 2011 11:53 AM

the no fishing thing bugged me a little bit.
the underground thing was easily replaced with the Entralink. good job on that one :)
the safari zone was replaced by the dream world so it didn't bother me.
i feel that instead one step forward and two steps back, unova was three steps forward.

voodoocakes May 1st, 2011 12:22 PM

Originally, I was pretty disappointed :/
I bought d&p but haven't bought any more games since black and white came out so I don't know about those
I miss the apps from d/p and I miss the underground.
Dream world was a pretty cool addition and it makes up for a lot, but it could be further developed still :/
Also, they could have done a little more with the seasons.

From a training stand point though, I love that you can now reset EVs, and Ev training is pretty easy.

Jack Kentnon May 1st, 2011 12:24 PM

The only thing that bothers me, is that lack of a VS seeker. Otherwise, I could not care less about the rest.

Actually no fishing buged me a little bit. Until I foud out that there were only like, 4 water pokemon.

I agree with all of this!
I've been wishing I had a vs. seeker like the whole time

Sydian May 1st, 2011 12:33 PM

Contests and Pokethlon were replaced with Musicals. I think you're overlooking that. I wish secret bases would return, but the biggest loss for me was the follow me feature, which is probably the main reason HGSS are some of my favorite games. I mean, I want a fluffy Rufflet and a pretty Petilil following me. That's not too much to ask for, is it? <3

stepher May 1st, 2011 12:34 PM

There are also some other things i didn't say in the original post. The first gym isn't a rock gym i know about hoenn but still, the bug type pokemon is found after the 2nd gym and the pigeon pokemon at the start.

Well I personally wasn't bothered at all that I lost, a small perk that most of the time didn't matter since the core of the game (catching and battling) where not changed or advanced, "easily catch magikarp at the start of the game", "use a horrible catching method the STOPS you from battling at all", and I don't really have anything for or against the underground... it never really did anything except give you random chances at a few items.

What Unova brought was a streamlined game play and human interaction, no access to the old world giving a new sense of exploration and "newness", something quite a few people thought was lacking in previous gens. Unova also has a very big change, the almost complete dis-requirment of an HM slave. Since the beginning of gen 1, you HAD to have HM's to get around, you needed surf and cut. This change basically gives you FULL capacity to explore the world, AND have 6 battle ready Pokemon with you. Plus the story outmatches any other pokemon by far, which shows the advancement of the series as a whole.

Alomar May 1st, 2011 1:12 PM

I also have always been a fan of the rebattle-able Gym Leaders, not just the E4

Jdwg1337 May 1st, 2011 1:38 PM

I agree with the statement that we lost more than we gained, but the three things i miss most were the pokeradar, contests, and most importantly the underground. They gave the previous pokemon games ALOT more replay value than B/W could ever have. If i was in a shiny hunting mood, i'd use the pokeradar and it would keep me occupied for many many many hours. contests were always a fun thing to go back to ever now and then, but the best part of the game that is missing in my opinion is the Underground, It kept having me come back to pokemon diamond, it was just so addicting, making your own secret bases, planting traps, mining for fossils and stones, having freinds come into your underground. good times.

Amore May 1st, 2011 3:36 PM

Following pokémon is a loss...however, hopefully just like they lost Cutscenes from Fr/Lg to E/D/P/Pt but then regained it in Hg/Ss, we'll get following and cutscenes restored to Hoenn, along with something else (i.e. Safari Zone similar to Hg/Ss).

Safari Zone was a loss too, but then again Dream World did replace it...if only it were less complex.

However, on the other hand, we have much better battles (battle graphics could improve though), a region less focused on HMs (I miss them all the time, even Cut from Hg/Ss, but it's a nice change), and stuff I can't remember as it's 00:36 here xD

PlatinumDude May 1st, 2011 4:26 PM

I wanted the Pokeathlon, Game Corner and the Safari Zone in B/W, but I was sad when they were taken out.

Ho-Oh May 1st, 2011 4:54 PM

This thread is beginning to overlap with pros/cons, since really, you're listing the pros of the games, then listing the cons and seeing if the cons outweigh the pros, just... using different words. XD Either way, merged with pros/cons.

As for me, seasons make it all worth it. :)

2Cool4Mewtwo May 1st, 2011 4:59 PM

Pros - interesting storyline, cool new pokemon, 2 rivals instead of 1...

Cons - Nothing much interesting going on after E4. Not even unlocking 1/3 of the unova region helps imo :\
