Rotom type changes !

Serebii confirmed That the rotom formes actually change their secondary types matching that of the special move they learn ..Heat rotom will become electric/fire, wash rotom will be electric/water, Mow rotom will be electric/Grass and Frost and fan rotom will be /ice and /flying respective...

I think it's a gud move...Finally Mow rotom will get STAB for leaf storm :D

Andrut September 17th, 2010 7:44 AM

Won't it be Grass/Ice/Fire/Grass/Flying/Water? They're still ghosts actually.
Well, it is the second type change in the pokemon universe. It is not so special, but it would be still useful for Rotom users.

Haza September 17th, 2010 7:46 AM

Good news! Now it loses it's Earthquake weakness... the frost forme will be more popular now.

Mujahid September 17th, 2010 7:46 AM

Ah...serebii says it's secondary type changes and it's secondary type is ghost

Xander Olivieri September 17th, 2010 7:49 AM

Rotom is Electric/Ghost and drops its Sub type (ghost)

Mujahid was right Mower is Electric/Grass, Heat is Electric/Fire, Fridge is Electric/Ice, Fan is Electric/Flying and wash is Electric/Water.

In an attempt to explain why it loses its ghost typing:

Rotom the Electric/Ghost Pokemon is made of plasma that has the ability to possess random objects. When it possesses those objects, it looses its ghostly form and gains a physical one.

So when it possesses the Lawn Mower and becomes Mower Rotom, it now has a physical body as well as a new attack, so it replaces the secondary type (Ghost) with a new secondary typing.

Personally I love this. It should have been done the first time, but better late than never I say.

I thought Rotom had Levitate ability even in form change...so it never had weakness to Ground based attacks. If it didn't, then no, it doesn't lose weakness to Earthquake. Heat Rotom is now x4. Washer Rotom is still x2. Fridge Rotom is still x2. Only Mower Rotom and Fan Rotom lose Ground weakness. The former being x1 and the latter being x0.

Shinjiro September 17th, 2010 7:50 AM

Hm...Nice one that is. A changing types when the Special moves they learn, Am I right?:)

Mujahid September 17th, 2010 7:52 AM

Yeah....When Rotom changes to Mow rotom it learns Leaf storm but now it'll also become electric/Grass..

JP September 17th, 2010 7:59 AM

About time they did this. This should have been implemented in Platinum from day one. Good news for sure.

Anyone know where in this game he's able to change formes though? o__O

fenyx4 September 17th, 2010 7:59 AM

Personally, I'd like the "Electric" part to be the type that changed, but whatever. This is what Game Freak should have done in the first place, so it's a step in the right direction.

And that sort of opens up a can of worms, because there are SEVERAL Pokemon that, IMO, need type changes. For example, Yanmega would've been the perfect opportunity for a Levitating Bug/Dragon Pokemon! The above Rotom example makes it seem that it is possible to re-type Pokemon in a successive Generation.

Rotom's competitive value just dropped tremendously. XD

I'll be honest, this is how I thought the formes would work from the very beginning. :/

Why did they drop? They just gained STAB to their special attacks.

And they gained weaknesses related to their spesho type...

They also lost weakness from their previous type.

Timbjerr September 17th, 2010 11:01 AM

Rotom formes can no longer spin-block. People running entry hazards will have to turn to Dusknoir or Gengar instead of using Rotom.

solarowl September 17th, 2010 1:39 PM

I originally thought they were ghost and the machine's type. But I wish it wasn't electric and the type.

King Gumball September 17th, 2010 2:19 PM

Rotom changing type was really needed and is a great new aspect of B/W.

PlatinumDude September 17th, 2010 3:22 PM

I like Rotom-F's new typing. It essentially gets STAB on BoltBeam (via Discharge/Thunderbolt + Blizzard).

Why didn't they do this in Platinum, I wonder?

I wondered that when Pt came out too...
Yeah well it's Frost forme and Mow forme will be of great use, though Electric/Flying Rotom makes Levitate useless...

PaxAmericana September 17th, 2010 8:19 PM

bout time they did that to Rotom

King Gumball September 18th, 2010 12:05 AM

Rotom will be used so much more now that it has new typings.

Fixed. :D As much as I like the idea of this, I'm annoyed because a. the old typing was better for competitive and b. I would have preferred Ghost/Othertype, instead.

Haza September 18th, 2010 3:34 AM

Yeah, It would have been better to me if it was Ghost/Fire, Water, lying, Ice, and Grass. It seems more Ghost than Electric to me but I'll get used to it.

^This is spot on. I agree completely that it should lose his ghost-type when possessing the appliances; it adds some real depth to the typing.

Same here. Well, the plus side is, aside from these changes being closer to what should have been done in the first place, is that we technically get our first Grass/Electric Pokemon Forme! :D

Red1530 September 18th, 2010 12:16 PM

This a big change. Rotom will lose its dark weakness, but at the expense of gaining some new weaknesses and losing its normal and fighting immunities. However it will gain STAB for its signature moves.

Personally I think this a logical move to drop the ghost-type due to taking a physicial form.
