Rambagos September 28th, 2012 6:48 AM

Charmander and Mudkip.
One point I choose Charmander because I wanted a Charizard. And for Mudkip, I was looking for Swampert. I like this type which only have one weakness.

White_Arcanine September 28th, 2012 11:44 AM

Emerald, Swampert. Mainly 'cause when I started Emerald I didn't really like Torchic or Treecko (Spelling?) very much, I still don't.

As for Fire Red I picked Bulbasaur, 'cause one of my friends loves that Pokemon and I named it after her.

LeMetagross September 28th, 2012 2:43 PM

I chose Charmander and Mudkip initially. Charmander was my first pokemon I ever owned actually as leaf green was the first game I ever played. Mudkip was My first on saphire I would think although I remember paying through as all of them. I am using torchick in my current play through of Emerald and Squirtle in my current play through of fire red.

iblackbeltXD September 30th, 2012 1:37 PM

I chose Charmander everytime in FireRed, mainly because I found that with Bulbasaur, everything was too easy up until the Kanto League, where I got ****ing wrecked ! Same with Squirtle. Charmander always gave me such a challenge to the point where when I got to the League it was too easy.. Loved it ! xD as with R/S/E, I always chose Treecko but I found that Mudkip was more to my playstyle later on.

Queen September 30th, 2012 7:39 PM

I chose Charmander for Leafgreen, Torchic/Mudkip for Sapphire/Emerald.
Charmander was my obvious choice when I first started leafgreen, who wouldn't choose an awesome fire-breathing lizard that will evolve into a huge dragon! For Sapphire, I also chose the fire-type again, which was Torchic. But, when I started Emerald, I chose Mudkip, just so I can experience a different set of moves and also Mudkip will be insanely strong once it is fully evolved.

Demon. September 30th, 2012 7:50 PM

Charmander and Torchic. Fire type is best type.

Kranic September 30th, 2012 8:16 PM

Gen 3 is actually the only generation where I liked all the starters to almost equal levels. In other generations I always feel myself choosing one pokemon above all the others and having one that I never play with unless I really feel like doing something different.

Of course I always finding myself picking torchic a little more often than mudkip and not picking treeko as nearly as often as the other two, it's still much better than my habbits in other generations. (I can't remember the last time I played through kanto with a bulbasaur.)

SoraTheTruth September 30th, 2012 9:28 PM

Fire red: charmander
Sapphire: mudkip
Ruby; treecko
Emerald: torchic

Khawill October 1st, 2012 1:16 PM

I chose mudkip but switched him for a zigzagoon and later a trapinch becuase I didnt like my starter being the strongest

For odd numbered gens up to now, I've always ended up choosing Fire types. :'D I'm a little sad I'll be breaking said tradition for Gen 5 but oh well. The fire type was the only starter I liked in RSE and I love all the starters in FRLG but decided I like Charmander the most. ♥

yeah me too. I really find fire types interesting, but tepig didn´t fill up my expectatives... I prefer Oshawott.

jayjay9 October 2nd, 2012 10:01 PM

Torchic and Charmander.
Charmander for the fact that it evolves into Charizard.

Sabrewulf238 October 2nd, 2012 10:39 PM

Torchic in Pokemon Sapphire and Squirtle in Pokemon Fire Red

Then later I got Pokemon Ruby because my Sapphire went missing. I used Treecko that time.

JakeTheSancho October 7th, 2012 2:25 PM

Squirtal iis my man! :D hehe

jm0913 October 8th, 2012 12:56 AM

PKMN RSE: Treecko
PKMN FR/LG: Squirtle

Olli October 8th, 2012 10:11 AM

First time on Ruby, Mudkip. Two of my friends and I got the games just about the same time, and decided on starting our journies at the same time, where each of us would choose a different starter than the others. I ended up being last, and had to choose Mudkip, although I grew to really like it, and it became my primary Pokemon, although not surprising considering how strong it is. Although, while I do like Mudkip, Treecko comes just a little above it due to awesome its design is.

First time on Leaf Green, Charmander. This was pretty much tradition. Charizard was all the hype back in the days of R/B/Y, and despite not appearing as powerful with all the other, stronger Pokemon from other generations stealing its spotlight nowadays, it was still a favourite of mine when I first got a remake. I did have lots of trouble beating the first two gyms though, as I didn't catch any other Pokemon than Pidgey on my way up to the first gym, so that cried for excessive grinding. Despite Charizard being an old favourite, I still tend to use Venuaur the most, just because it's easier to plow through the first part of the game with it, but my friend and I did breed hundreds of Charizards at the point when we discovered breeding though lol

DisesioN October 12th, 2012 6:22 AM

Same for me too. Torchic and Charmander. <3 Fire type pokemons :D

Batel October 13th, 2012 8:21 AM

Because t was my first Pokemon game, I picked the pokemon I thought looked the coolest, which was Torchic. Until Oshawott, Blaziken was my favorite Pokemon of all time. So I can definitely say I was happy with my choice. :D

As for LeafGreen, I picked Bulbasaur. It wasn't because I disliked Squirtle or Charmander... It was because I didn't know which of them to pick, so I picked Bulbasaur 'cause I was playing LeafGreen. XD;

joeyhuab October 14th, 2012 3:47 AM

First time I got a Pokemon game, was a Sapphire for GBA. First starter I chose, Treecko. I really don't know why, but yeah, after starting over and over, I kept choosing Mudkip then I stuck with Torchic. In Fire Red and Leaf Green, I always choose Charmander, with the exception of choosing Bulbasaur and Squirtle to complete the legendary dogs.

Agastya October 14th, 2012 9:05 PM

I picked Mudkip first because it was blue and I really like blue.

The only other time I deviated away from doing Mudkip runs was trying out Torchic once, but I kept getting absorbed by Tate and Liza so I got mad and started with Mudkip again.

93Aiwass October 16th, 2012 4:26 PM

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

Mudkip and Bulbasaur. Simply put, both gave me type advantages against the first three gyms, minimum. ^_^

Love is the Law, Love under Will.

RoreyG October 16th, 2012 5:49 PM

Fire Red- Chamander
Leaf Green- Bulbasaur

Ruby- Mudkip
Emerald- Treeko

Seraphimon-sama October 16th, 2012 6:06 PM

FR/LG - Charmander/Bulbasaur (depends on the mood I'm in at the time)
R/S/E - Torchic

bctincher15 October 17th, 2012 12:16 AM

FireRed: Charmander
LeafGreen: Squirtle(I always chose Bulbasaur in all four originals)
Ruby: Mudkip
Sapphire: Treecko
Emerald: Torchic

Wateria October 17th, 2012 12:37 AM

in pokemon leaf green: Squirtle or Bulbasuar: I think Charizard makes the game to easy
in pokemon sapphire: Mudkip or Torchic: I just don't like treekco

93Aiwass October 17th, 2012 5:53 AM

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

Gold/Crystal: Chikorita
Sapphire/Emerald: Torchick
LeafGreen: Bulbasaur

Correspondence October 17th, 2012 7:19 AM

Torchic and Charmander!!I always choose fire types for some reason.

Sweet Smoochum October 19th, 2012 10:07 PM

I started off with a Torchic. I eventually evolved it into its final evolution. I don't know why, but I chose it, because May did in the anime. (My first choice was a Mudkip.) I don't exactly know where my charger is in order to charge the SP for me to play my game.) I really like Torchic. I didn't know the importance of natures back in the day. I also didn't know that Mudkip's second stage is part Ground, and would fair well against Wattson of the Mauville Gym. I didn't know. It's why I started over, and picked a Torchic. I played through the game with just that when I had my Sapphire version that my first bf just happened to keep. (We broke up.)

I like how it knows Focus Energy. It was useful on my team... I always like Torchic.

Vicktor Black October 19th, 2012 10:20 PM

Torchic and Charmander I always choose the fire types because not only do i like them but for me there were never really enough fire types in the game.

drpoplove October 21st, 2012 10:32 AM

I chose Mudkip in Sapphire and Squirtle in Fire Red. I usually tend to start with water in all of my games.

Aera October 22nd, 2012 6:32 PM

Lol... the only game that I got the chance to play for this generation is Emerald, which was my first ever Pokemon game. I remember choosing Torchic because of how cute it looked. xD

Blaze42 November 1st, 2012 11:35 AM

I chose Mudkip and Charmander.

morrison November 1st, 2012 12:33 PM

Mudkip, and it was a right choice since it evolved into bad ass swampert with its electro resitance :D

Syltti November 1st, 2012 2:29 PM

Sapphire/Emerald - Treeko/Torchic. Oddly enough... I was not a fan of Mudkipz.

FireRed/LeafGreen - Charmander/Squirtle. Not a fan of Bulbasaur. Never have been. Venusaur is just... so... hard to look at.

Trainer Matt November 2nd, 2012 2:39 AM

I've always chosen the fire type without hestiation. Charmander and Torchic were great companions! Blaziken was nudged from Sapphire onto my Soul Silver game, and may get another poke onto my Black data. Speaking of Black, (and discounting Yellow) that was the first time that I chose a starter besides the Fire type!

Autophobic November 2nd, 2012 9:40 AM

I liked to pick Torchic. I always thought that the fire starters were awesome.

True Honey November 3rd, 2012 11:30 PM

On my original play-through I chose Torchic and Charmander in Sapphire and Fire Red respectively. At that time I had a really deep love for fire type Pokemon.

Flaze November 11th, 2012 3:03 AM

First time in Sapphire I chose Treecko,
First time in Leaf Green I chose Bulbasaur

(This was years ago when the games first came out)

Synerjee November 11th, 2012 3:34 AM

GSC: Cyndaquil/Totodile
RSE: Mudkip/Torchic
FR: Squirtle/Charmander

I always choose fire/water-type starters. Never grass-types. I'm not a fan of grass-types.

CJBlazer November 11th, 2012 7:58 AM

In the gsc series, I always chose Cyndaquil since it could learn Thunderpunch and Fire Punch.

In the RSE, I often chose Mudkip because of its water and ground combo.

In FR and LG, I liked Bulbasaur because it could dominate pretty much every gym.

Captain Gizmo November 11th, 2012 9:30 AM

First time I played Ruby, I chose Torchic.
Althought I ended up regretting it, wanting to pick Mudkip.

Creame November 11th, 2012 10:47 AM

I always made my brother restart his sapphire game 6 times, so we both had all the starters :D

Heracles4 November 12th, 2012 4:19 PM

Torchic and squirtle

On my second times I chose Treecko and bulbasaur

Seriously, I've never chosen charmander or mudkip

Seki November 12th, 2012 5:46 PM

For some reason, its Bulbasaur and Treeko, I chose Bulbasaur because I wanted some kind of challenge in my LG game while for Treeko, I love Sceptile's design so I went with it.

pikdum November 16th, 2012 2:30 PM

Mudkip and Squirtle

water types for the win!

Don Bastio November 21st, 2012 3:56 PM

i picked squirtle in leafgreen blastoise when the game came out, because it is my favorite fully evolved starter and my friend who lived two house houses away had the wireless adapter that came with the game and so did I and he had a charizard and we battled sometimes. guess you could say we were the real world pokemon rivals lol.

On the contrary, Charizard is actually the most challenging choice for starter. In the first generation, Charmander was horrible for the first two gyms. At least in FireRed and LeafGreen, Charmander learns Metal Claw just for the Pewter gym and Mount Moon. Still, battling Misty is total heck unless you caught a grass type such as a Paras in Mount Moon or a Oddish or Bellsprout in the field next to Nugget Bridge.

My favorite starters are Torchic and Mudkip, so it is a hard decision when trying to select only one. I tend to choose Torchic for its very awesome Fire/Fighting typing (well, not like that's anything special after Infernape and that pig Emboar). FireRed I like Bulbasaur, though I've played through with Charizard in the past and used to choose Squirtle in the originals.

JaDevu333 December 1st, 2012 1:41 AM

Hmm, I'd have to go with torchic and Treeko in Hoenn, and in Kanto I usually use Squirtle and Bulbasaur, for son reason their just easier to battle with.

Triston1zn December 1st, 2012 6:05 AM

I always choose the fire types...no matter what game....I have this attraction to blowing stuff up

Sableye~ December 1st, 2012 9:00 AM

Mudkip.
I admit, it was actually on SoulSilver but it's still my Gen III starter. Hopefully that counts. I'm still trying to get a hold of Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald but I don't have a system to play it on that works yet.

Appaloosa December 2nd, 2012 11:12 AM

My starter was a Treecko. I chose it because I love a lot of the grass types. In the beginnig of the game it helps with one of the gym leaders.

Sassy Milkshake December 2nd, 2012 12:37 PM

Torchic. Really a godsend when it came down to like half the gym leaders and elite four. And I already knew I was going to get Tropius, so I didn't pick Treecko.

Feebas December 2nd, 2012 12:41 PM

Torchic all the way. Fire types can become extremely overpowered. LOL

imevil December 3rd, 2012 12:26 PM

Almost alwasy Treeko, I loed his design. Sceptile just looks so ninja. Torchic was pretty cool to. I would rareley pick Mudkip, Swampert looks to derpy.

GenerationWin December 29th, 2012 11:20 PM

mine was the water types because i had it in my head the the first gyms were the hardest so i pwned with them untill they were lv. 30 and the rest were lv. 10 it wasnt good

pikakitten December 30th, 2012 2:15 AM

This might be cliche but Mudkip. I liekz Mudkipz xD But in all seriousness, in Emerald, 2 teams. Magma (Treecko = Fail) and Aqua (Torchic = Fail) but Mudkip is cute, good stats and can take down Magma while being neutral to Aqua. He's just the best starter, in my opinion anyway.

SaniOKh December 30th, 2012 11:37 AM

I always pick fire-type starters, just because :) . So, Torchic and Charmander.

Matusallem December 30th, 2012 11:41 AM

Treecko and charmander... Treecko is just too cool!

Captain Gizmo December 30th, 2012 12:05 PM

First time I played FireRed, I chose Charmander. The first time I played Ruby, I chose Torchic.

I don't know why, but those seemed to be the most appealing Pokemon to me at the time :P

Arlo December 31st, 2012 5:02 PM

My first of FRLG (and my first pokemon game at all) was Leaf Green, and I chose Bulbasaur. Then I played through Fire Red with Charmander. Then I traded the nice stuff out of Fire Red and replayed it with Squirtle.

My first of RSE was Sapphire, and I chose Mudkip. Then I played Ruby with Torchic, then finally Emerald with Treecko. That's one thing I loved about having three games to a set - three games and three starters equals one for each.

pessimisticlyricist January 3rd, 2013 10:27 AM

I chose treecko in sapphire and charmander in fire red.

Sydian January 17th, 2013 3:05 PM

People are starting to forget this thread exists.

Anyway, my first time playing Sapphire, I picked Torchic. I remember when I bought the game and I thought Torchic was called "Porchic" and I told my dad that I was picking it. lmao 10 year olds. And, keeping with the Fire type tradition, I picked Charmander in FireRed. Luckily I knew how to pronounce Charmander.

digimonqueen January 17th, 2013 4:09 PM

For my Emerald game i usually chose Mudkip. I love cute starters. Then for Ruby i chose Torchic. Finally, Sapphire, back to Mudkip again (i don't like Treecko). For Fire Red and Leaf Green it is always either Bulbasaur or Squirtle. I chose Charmander ONCE and got my butt kicked the WHOLE game. i will NEVER do that again. it took me i think 8 tries to beat Brock with Charmander. he drained me of ALL my money. after that, no more Charmander. it's not that i don't LIKE Charmander. i do, he's one of my favorite Pokemon. but he's just not that good.

Clonehunter January 17th, 2013 6:27 PM

Treecko and Charmander. I like both Grass and Water types, so may as well. I think I tried Mudkip once though and he was pretty nice, but I just like Treecko too much.

Cerberus87 January 17th, 2013 7:28 PM

Always the Fire starter. So, Charmander and Torchic.

Charmander is pretty boss in FRLG. IMO the best starter. Bulbasaur has advantage against gyms, but when he's at a disadvantage, he can't do crap (Pokémon Tower for example). Squirtle doesn't really excel at anything and is outshone by the likes of Lapras and Starmie. Charizard is great for all-purpose strength and Flamethrower puts a dent on anything.

InfectedBeast January 17th, 2013 11:38 PM

i picked treeko for 3rd gen idk why i thought he was cool lol

RoreyG January 19th, 2013 1:26 PM

Fire Red- Charmander (favorite Pokemon, oldest friend)

Leaf Green- Bulbasaur (mascot Pokemon, only seemed right)

Emerald- The first time I played it,m I chose Treeko (coolest of the bunch). The second time, I chose Mudkip (basically soloed the game with a Swampert lol).

vapes January 19th, 2013 1:59 PM

Torchic and Bulbasaur.

I like Mudkip and Squirtle. I don't really like Treecko and I hate Charmander

KungFuPurp January 19th, 2013 2:20 PM

Fire Red - Squirtle ( i love all three starters from this gen. it really took me a bit to decide on which i wanted to choose) Love all the evolutions from the GENIII starters!

Ruby - Torchic (i didn't really care for Torchic but i liked it's evolutions. overall i didn't care for either of the three starters in Ruby although the evolutions were nice)

SynDan January 20th, 2013 12:31 AM

Treeko the first time I played Ruby ever since then Torchic but I always pick Charmander In Fire Red

Gzomyndzor January 20th, 2013 2:58 AM

Fire Red - Bulbasaur
Sapphire - Mudkip
My Mudkip (called MUDDY) has stayed with me ever since, and is now a lvl100 swampert ^_^! He is currently chilling on my pokemon White game.

Necrum January 21st, 2013 6:40 AM

In leaf green I chose squirtle who has always been my favorite starter pokemon. He may not be the power house Charizard is, but he stands hoi ground and packs a decent punch when raised right.

In ruby, which I am playing for the first time right now, I picked treecko. Mostly because I had pokemon of the other starters types i really wanted to use, crawdaunt for water and hariyama for fighting.

annikaprue January 26th, 2013 3:30 AM

I picked Charmander in FR. I tried the others after I got squashed by Brock in the first gym, but it still wasn't the same with Squirtle and Bulbasaur. Never chose Bulbasaur, perhaps I thought it was a bit too creepy since it didn't look like it had a nose. I chose Torchic first in emerald, but I switched to Mudkip pretty soon. I don't know why I love Water Ground types so much.

Gyardosamped January 26th, 2013 7:43 AM

For FR/LG, I chose

http://faqsmedia.ign.com/faqs/image/ani004.gif

And for RSE, I chose

http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/9/91/255Torchic.png/150px-255Torchic.png

Love, love, love the fire Poke's... especially the starters. :)

satotaku January 26th, 2013 8:50 AM

Bulbasaur, grass types have been my go to for quite some time and it's only Gen 6 that has made a grass starter I have ZERO interest in, going with Froakie this time.

Seth Rollins January 31st, 2013 5:33 PM

In my Firered I choosed Charmander, and in Emerald I choosed Treecko. Both pretty cool.

Caelus February 1st, 2013 2:35 PM

RSE: I liked using all three but the one I used the most was Mudkip.
FR/LG: I used both Squirtle and Charmander about the same. Only used Bulbasaur once.

kinataki February 2nd, 2013 2:04 AM

mudkip-squirtle-totodile-piplup-oshawott- and the froggy thing
because water type is... is.. awesome!

Einarsson February 2nd, 2013 1:20 PM

Torchic and Charmander, obviously.

Shayminlover123 February 2nd, 2013 9:55 PM

FR:Squirtle

E:Treecko but only so may can have torchic like she did in the anime

Vei February 3rd, 2013 4:46 AM

In Sapphire, I picked Torchic.
In Emerald, I picked Treecko.

And in LG, I picked Charmander.

Master Magikarp February 3rd, 2013 4:39 PM

In Fire Red I choose Charmander every time. In Emerald I choose Torchic. Sometimes I play with Treecko such as when I am doing a Nuzlocke.

Fransferdy February 5th, 2013 12:24 PM

Mudkip and Bulbasaur. Leech Seed is the best move ever.

Sheep February 8th, 2013 7:26 PM

In RSE I chose Mudkip for my first playthrough ever. He did wonders! In FRLG, I think I picked Bulbasaur.. terrible memory though for some reason, could be wrong.

sab February 9th, 2013 9:06 AM

Charmander an treeko. I probably would have chosen torchic if l knew what the finally evos were before hand.

Zero° February 9th, 2013 9:18 AM

Torchic because I was a big fire-type fan back then and I loved every fire starter in the past games.
in FR/LG I chose Charmander again because like I said, fire types lol. Plus his flamethrower is OP.

pokemanmdj February 9th, 2013 12:00 PM

I chose Charmander in FR/LG. I've always liked the Charizard family line. :3
I chose Treeko in R/S/E. I don't really know why, either. I guess I had never tried a grass starter before- Charmander in RBY, Totodile in GSC, and then Treecko in RSE.

RenegadeClyde February 10th, 2013 9:32 AM

RSE: In Ruby/Sapphire I always choose Torchic. I think I've started Sapphire once with Mudkip, but I always liked Torchic's evolutionary line. (Blaziken4Life.) In Emerald, I've chosen treecko. I finally could have a Grass type with nice speed and offensive stats. Also, Leaf Blade.

FR/LG: I've played Leafgreen first, and chosen Squirtle. In FireRed, Bulbasaur.

F1ygon February 11th, 2013 10:25 AM

Mudkip! :D

I don't know why I always loved Mudkip, I choose it everytime...

Floodblade1234 February 12th, 2013 7:42 AM

Leafgreen:Charmander

Sapphire:torchic

emerald:Mudkip *insertIheardulikemudkipzmemehere*

Bounsweet February 12th, 2013 7:47 AM

Mudkip in Sapphire Version
Charmander in FireRed Version

I still remember being so excited for my first Mudkip, I saw a little Nintendo magazine with them before the games were released and fell in love with it instantly.

Tyranitar042 February 12th, 2013 10:07 PM

I chose Mudkip and Charmander and the only reason I chose those is bc my cousin was my rival and his favs were Torchic and Squirtle so yea

Kikaito plush February 13th, 2013 2:11 AM

Treekco in sapphire
Bulbasaur in Firered
Mudkip in emerald

tbuggy10 February 13th, 2013 4:01 PM

When I played my big brother's GBA, (I was 4 yrs old) He let me play his Pokemon Ruby I picked Mudkip (because it's cute) and I nicknamed it "BUDDY". It's weird...My big bro nicknamed it the exact same thing! IT WAS DESTINY!!! Now, i'm 11, I've recently played a Pokemon Fire Red ROM and I love cute things...so, I chose Squirtle! Squirtle is my fave Kanto starter.

Shayminlover123 February 13th, 2013 4:43 PM

Treecko in Emerald and Squirtle in Firered.

Iceman3k February 13th, 2013 6:20 PM

RSE: Treecko.
FR/LG: Charmander.

I like lizards. What can I say?

Sonikkts February 14th, 2013 10:28 PM

I love Treecko, but my heart will always remain with Squirtle.

Scripturient February 14th, 2013 11:33 PM

I've always picked the water typic in every generation, so I had Mudkip and Squirtle.

XxSaikuxX February 27th, 2013 3:50 AM

I pick Charmander and Mudkip

Skinwalker213 February 28th, 2013 3:22 PM

Torchic and Squirtle.

Btw Emerald was my first Pokemon game.

kj3400 March 2nd, 2013 1:26 PM

Torchic, Bulbasaur. Cuz Torchic is awesome, and Bulbasaur was the logical choice for the first two gyms.
