Completely dead?
Where do these games stand in your point of view? Do you just see them in your room collecting dust while you sit there playing your new import of Black/White? Batteries dead? Are you ever gonna pick'em up and play again?
I see them as old, but not too old that I don't want to play them ever again. My RBY and GSC games are neatly stored in my game drawer (carefully organized, haha). All the batteries are still working as well, but I do have ROMs for all six of them in case anything happens (which eventually and unfortunately, something will). And occasionally, I get a serge of nostalgia and pick them up again for a normal playthrough. Playing the Black ROM made me want to play Red, actually. Haha. |
I don't think they're dead yet... I still actually just want to play Yellow sometimes because even with the bad graphics, it seems like a brand new world. That was the start of Pokemon and shouldn't be forgotten to fully enjoy the new games, imo. I alsooo would play Crystal but then I'd wanna restart and I like my team so yeah D:
|
I must admit, I don't play any of them anymore. Part of it is that I live away from home most of the year and even if I wanted to play my hard copies, I only take my DS with me so I wouldn't be able to. :(
I have played the ROM for Blue recently--I went for a complete pokedex and did it in about 8 hours, albeit with the emulator sped up. And in Gold I... started doing a Nuzlocke challenge but was nearly completely wiped out by Clair and didn't even want to do Kanto so I gave up. XD; But for the most part, I don't bother with the earlier gens anymore. :( They were fun while they lasted but I find them a bit of a chore to play because they lack so much I take for granted now in the series. |
I don't even have my Red/Blue/Yellow/Crystal cartridge anymore. They disappeared into the darkest corners of my parents' place years ago. D:
I have ROMs for five of the six genI/II games, but I only really play them for challenges and whatnot. XD |
It really saddens me to see them alone, cold without heat from a console to warm them. I admit to having stopped playing them after Pokémon HG & SS were released. Before they were released, I only played Crystal, because Johto was my favorite region. After Johto was made on the NDS, I saw no point in playing the old ones again.
I have a ROM for every version of GB/GBC, but they are untouched and will be as such forever. What I am trying to say, is goodbye my dear RBY and GSC. See ya in anotha life, brothas. |
I still have the cartridges for all six games, though only 5 are working now since the battery for my Silver game died. (*weeps*)
I absolutely refuse to reset my Crystal file, so that only leaves me with Gold to mess around on in Gen 2. I end up playing G/S/C on the computer instead, which...I actually do a fair amount of, even if I don't actually finish playing through them most of the time. I just like putting different teams together and playing with them. I play R/B/Y a bit too. I started a new game on Blue a long time ago with the intention of raising an awesome team to use on Pokemon Stadium, but I restarted it recently so I could do a challenge. I'll have to start again later and put that team together, since I've been getting into Stadium again. I have backups of Red and Blue on my computer as well, if I remember right, but I don't usually play them that way. It just doesn't feel the same. x_x |
Crystal is Corrupted and I still play Yellow because its the only gen 1/2 game that wasn't remade.
|
I play all the old games, they've never gone unloved for long. If I happen to come across a cartridge while cleaning my room for example I just have to see where I left off last time, and a lot of the time I'll continue on.
God I love Pokemon. |
I pick up my Red once every 2-4 weeks so it doesnt lose its charge and become corrupted. I know thats just delaying the inevitable but I'm going to hate when it eventually happens (if the internal battery doesnt die first *knocks wood*). I usually do the same with my Blue/Yellow/G/S/C but I pay more attention to red because it was my first Pokemon game.
I guess my games dont "collect dust" but I dont play them as much as I used to. |
I don't find them dead to me yet. I only own Yellow, Crystal and Silver. But I usually erase the file, and start from scratch once in a while. (^_^b)
|
Omg, if my game still worked, I'd play them every day. Non-stop hardcore play.
If it weren't for me being so scared of getting forty different viruses every three seconds from downloading a ROM, I would get one for Gold and Sapphire. But I have them all in a little sack I got specifically for them. Neat and clean, with the internal batteries raped and destroyed from continuous hours of play. God I miss them. </3 |
I still play my Blue in my GBC every now and then. In fact I took this picture a cupla days ago.
Spoiler:
And seeing as that's the only one I can find out of Red, Blue, Yellow and Gold, I'm rebuilding my cartridge collection. Bought Red, Silver, Crystal and Sapphire yesterday. |
The 2nd generation games I have are dead, but the first aren't. Though I have a DS flash cart with all them (+Brown and Prism), so I can play the working (or nonworking) with a backlight. :P
|
I still like playing Blue and Gold, but I haven't played either in months.
So currently they're sitting in my drawer gathering dust. |
It's the most alive out of the whole series to me! I love it more than I do any of the newere Pokemon games, and that's for sure. I would much rather prefer to play a game of Crystal than Platinum, or even HG/SS. It's just something that will never die to me.
All of my originals are not old though. They will still play. G and S give me a hard time, but they will still work after a bit of persuasion and work. lol. R/B/Y work. |
I have my Crystal packed away in a safe place and my older brother's Yellow is still somewhere, my younger brother's Blue will be somewhere safe no doubt all the batteries still work, but I don't I really play them as much as I used to in the past. D:
|
I have no way to play the older games. Not only are most of them dead because they've been sitting exposed to dust for several years and I haven't touched them, but also because I gave away my old GameBoys except for my dying GameBoy Color. Which I found along with a cartridge of Yellow, and...dead.
I have ROMs for all the old games, but except for a few seconds of Yellow, I haven't played them. I guess I could say that I did move on to Black and White, leaving my old Pokemon to remain forgotten in a box in my closet. |
Quote:
Emulation is probably the greatest reason to own a DS flashcart, actually (other than, y'know, being able to keep backup copies of every DS game you own on one cartridge). |
I have blue, Red a dead silver and fire red, platnuim, and diamond.
However since my ds is broken I can't play any of them, minus blue and red but I never have enough time. |
yeah, mine are dead, the batery is flat, and I don't have the time or motivation to replace them, my Silver Version is now on my top shelf, gathering dust *sobs at lost memories*

Whenever i take a long trip, It's time to break out the Pokemon Silver! I'm trying to make every pokemon i ever caught lv 100!
I only have 5 though lol |
I love crystal don't like original games (RBY), but I think a bit of crystal never hurts! :P despite having both heart gold and soul silver! I think I'm more suprised you have a black ROM! :)
|
Lost Blue 10 years ago, and gave Crystal away when I realized I couldn't play it anymore (damned DS).
|
I actually play them more than the newer games. My Silver Version doesn't save anymore, but Red and Gold work absolutely fine. And I'm trying to get ahold of copies of Crystal and Yellow by checking GameStop every time I go to the mall. As odd as it sounds, I really don't like the newer graphics, they're just too realistic. Whatever happened to the cheesy little squares of grass?
|
I still have all of the cartridges of Yellow, Blue, Red, Gold, Silver, and Crystal. But I don't even touch Crystal and Red because of my amazing teams. But as of recently, I've just been playing the Roms.
|
The batteries in all of our (my brother and myself) copies of the first and second generation games are dead, though for whatever reason my brother still has my old Blue version in an old (original) Game Boy carrying case that he now uses to store peripherals like GBA link cables.
|
My old Pokemon Silver cartridge: resurrected from the dead without battery replacement. How? As an avid electrician, I opened it up with a game bit, jumped the original battery with one of my spare watch batteries and a spare gator clip lead, fired up the old atomic purple (Game Boy Color), and now the game looks like it's holding its own quite well. I never had time to return to the game and nab Badge 2 of 16.
|
Let me just say, if I thought that these games were dead, I wouldn't have gone to the trouble of fixing the corrupted battery on my Gold, oh yeah, and it's also sitting by me right now. :)
|
Unfortunately I sold my older Pokémon games along with my GBA. If I hadn't had sold them, I can honestly imagine myself playing through them again. Classics never get old in my opinion.
|
Pokemon Crystal is the best video game ever made.
I've ran through it about a million times. Although I'll probably give Black and White a run eventually, I don't foresee them overshadowing my favourite. After all, in my opinion, 251 is plenty of Pokemon. ;) I mean, the newer games aren't BAD, they just don't give me the satisfaction I get from completing Red or Silver. |
I actually just picked up my Blue version and my Gameboy Color and started a whole new game on it.
This game really does bring back some great memories and I love playing it. The music is great to listen to, and for an old Gameboy game, the graphics are actually pretty great. Not sure if I'll finish the entire game, though. |
NEVER!!! my metal and colors games shall live on!! XD
My Silver game still works mostly, except that sometiems the screen goes black or something and i have to restart. so I have to save really really often, and my pokemon yellow and red still work just fine. I dont play them much anymore though - HG/SS is where it's at. ^_^ |
My Red Saved Data has been deleted for some reason.... There is no data on the game... Started a new game yesterday..... I am at Blaine already.... I miss these games....
|
I do play them from time to time, but I must admit, it's getting rare!
|
I think they're not old, yet. o_O I still regularly play my Crystal and Yellow. :3
|
I still own all of my First and Second Generation games, but I no longer play them as such. Since my Gold cartridge died, I feel too upset to return to my childhood games, in case any of them died off too. Plus, my terrible noobishness would be on them.
|
They do collect dust in my room, makes me think I should give them to the newer youngins of the world.
Ah but they all have better things now... I'll replace the batteries before I sell them/play them much again. |
My favorite generation is and will always be the 2nd. HeartGold and SoulSilver are pretty good remakes, but I like the original ones most. Especially since I transferred my Mew glitch Mew to my Crystal and trained it to level 88. And my shiny Tangela, my only true 1 in 8000 chance shiny in my life! And the strange gender changing glitch I experienced. I have too many memories and I will never stop playing Crystal!
|
They wont ever be dead they were the start of this whole thing i think it will always be there just as long there is a pokmaniac somewhere
|
Ha one right here, still have my original copies.. pick them up for a play from time to time ^^
I even found my Pokemon red case and instruction manual (Pokemon Trainers Guide) the other day. Pokemon Red was the first game I ever played and will always remain important to me.. even after all these years my gaming knowledge and playing has grown far beyond that of the first generation era. But those games were amazing I prefer Crystal to any other Pokemon game.. and as for Red.. I don't know.. the music.. the crappy tiles.. EVERYTHING. No matter how bad they compare to todays games.. they are still awesome. |
The older games are never gonna die completely due to remakes, although their first forms are antiques now. I still play Crystal from time to time because it's my all-time favorite game, and I doubt I'm ever gonna let it go.
|
Sometimes when I'm bored I play Gold version (and by bored, I mean really bored). Anyway, the last time I played them was a couple of years ago, so I guess I've gotten over them.
|
I'm playing silver right now :D
Just grinding my level 87 feraligatr |
I wouldn't exactly call them dead because their spirits live on in the endless sea of Rom hacks.
|
No way.
I own at least one game from every generation and Pokemon Blue is the one I play the most. Question: My silver version won't save anymore. I play the game, hit save, it acts like it saves, but when I turn it off and on again the save file is gone. Is there any way to fix this? |
These are the only pokemon games that I play, but they probably will become dead as the people that play them become older and stop playing the original games. I just can't see people who are new to the series, play the original games like someone around my age does.
Also, institutions, if I am correct it sounds like your internal battery is dead. Not really sure what to do about that, but I'm sure that a little bit of research would provide an answer to your question. |
Well, I'm playing Yellow (I've only ever played Red and Blue in Gen I) and I'm playing Crystal again afterward, so these games are still very much alive.
|
I unfortunately gave away my Gameboy and my old Blue version to my cousin. I did find a program that's not a ROM that allows you to play the old RBY and GSC games on your computer. I play them from time to time, mainly when there's nothing much going on in the world of Pokemon.
So no, I don't consider them dead at all. |
I don't see the originals as dead, I'm just afraid the batteries will go on the rest of them. My second generation games don't work and I don't want my Pokémon Blue game to stop working because it's the first Pokémon game I owned. I emulate them, I was emulating Blue a few minutes ago.
|
Each of them sit in my room everyday crying, except blue who was unfortunately lost in a washing machine accident, and he is missed from his crying family of underplayed games in my collection. However, I do play them sometimes, just not as often as my Ruby. I haven't bought many of the new games, as I just haven't gotten the time.
:* |
Let's see, my Gold has a dead battery, my Blue is - I think - still working.
But the sad part is, I had a full pokédex on my Gold cartridge with over 350 hours of gameplay ): I don't really feel the need to play Blue anytime soon, however. |
I was just playing my old copy of Pokemon Silver i found the other day!:) I was really happy because i hadn't played it in awhile.
|
I have a electronics box with all my old stuff in it. I have my two link cables, pokemon R/B/Y and G/S, and 2 gameboy colors. Not to long ago i started over my blue to get a mew using the glitch(which worked perfectly :P). So as far as them being old i would have to say yes. But they still are as fun as when i fist got them.
|
My Crystal still works, I love it and still play it a lot.
*picks it up* "Stupid RAIKOU!" |
I carry my Gameboy Color around with me along with my DS everywhere. I have RBY and GSC and they all work perfectly fine (just did the mew glitch on Blue and got Mew, Nidoqueen and Lapras, so I'm playing that one to level them up.) I don't have any 3rd Gen games but I have roms of the DS games and Green just because. I also like playing hacks of the 1st and 2nd gens so those are on my R4 as well.
I love playing the classics more than the newer ones. I'm actually further on the gameboy ones rather than my DS ones just because I haven't erased most of them for a good 12 years now...I just like completing the pokedex now. |
I think that these games will eventually be dead as soon as people like me grow out of them. I can't really see young kids playing the older games like we used to. As of now, no they are far from completely dead
|
|
If I figure out where my SP is and my games, and if I have time, Id' play them. There are also a lot of people playing them... They're far from dead. :D
|
Well, I lost my sisters old Blue version a couple years ago, I still have yellow in my SP, my silver version I got off ebay still works, and my gold version won't save after I play a new game....I didn't grow up with these games so I think they're pretty old, but I still play them every once in awhile. :D
|
I didn't bring the games with to college, but I still fool around with the older gens on ROMs from time to time. I still enjoy them, old though they may be.
|
I only have my red cartridge left, and just recently I have actually started playing it again. :] After so long, it's kind of a refreshing simplicity to explore compared to the newer games. I enjoy it.
|
I don't forget them, but I haven't played Blue since I got it 12 years ago...probably because I just played FireRed. So I am done with Kanto for a bit, and I'll get there soon again in SS. I usually go in cycles. After I am done playing SS, I will play my Emerald again. Then I'll play Black and White.
They sit in my games drawer, but they are definitely not dead!^^ |
My old Silver is dead, sitting in a pile of my GB games.
Sadly, I lost my Crystal only 2 years after having it. :( |
I still have my Silver... haven't played in in YEARS. I lost my Red a long time ago when I moved to a different city (probably threw it away by mistake. >_<)
|
I still love my yellow team :)

i still play blue...it was and still is my favorite game
however i cant play very far into my 2nd gen games as both are broken... |
I lost Red and Blue but i still play Yellow every other day or so on the GBA SP. Its sort of a different experience seeing those gameboy games lit up in all its greenish yellowish glory.
I lost Silver or Crystal, I cant remember which one it was but i still have Gold but unfortunately it doesnt save anymore. I still pop it in sometimes cause I think the colors and the music are pretty awesome on the GBA sp. |
I don't think there dead, I prefer them to the newer ones.
|
I'll probably never play them again, but they will live forever in my mind and heart as the greatest Pokémon games ever. <3
|
I'm still playing blue, gold, and crystal on my original gbc. lol
I barely even touch my ds anymore. |
I play thru them all the time. And I just bought all of them in Japanese, with a JP GBC.
I'm hoping to play all the Pokemon games at once and beat the e4 on each game at the same time. In each language if I can. Troll lolololo. But yeah I'm serious. |
In honor of this thread, I dusted off my old blue to start all over ... then I couldn't find my gameboy. Instead, I've put a (slightly altered) Blue rom that I made a while back onto my DS's R4 card.
|
I sometimes get on a nostalgia kick and start playing the older games. I played RYS (the three games that still work) over the summer a bunch to make teams to finally beat Stadium and Stadium 2, but now that I've done that, completed my Pokedexes, etc, I'm not sure how frequently I'll use them. I have started a couple of new games on ROMs since getting home for Christmas break, but I'm afraid to do too much on the older games for fear that the batteries will die and kill all of my efforts.
I did get some new batteries for my games, though, so at some point I'd like to start repairing them (starting with G, C, and maybe B). I don't think that those games will ever be dead for me, but I probably won't play them as much as I used to. |
Crystal will never be dead to me! I'm doing a run through of it right now (mainly because my saved data was lost but the battery is fine... What?!?!?) I'm one battle away from defeating Team Rocket for good right now =P
|
Mine are all gone unfortunately, besides Red and Silver. But fortunately ive still got ROMS. ;)
|
yeah pretty much COMPLETLY DEAD i hardly play them(wait,,i never played them XD)
|
I had a Pokemon hiatus for a couple of years, so I abandoned my old games, but ever since my obsession came back, I've had urges to play my Yellow/Red/Blue games again. The thing is, I have no idea where they (and my Gameboy) went. IT'S A CATASTROPHE. I'm going to search my whole damn house before I resort to ROMs. I also have a Silver game which is indeed dead, because it won't save.
|
Well considering I got these games in the mail today for my first time in this specific adventure I'd have to say they can never completely die.
|
Mine....
Mine actually are, not not that bad as that I do not play with them anymore. Haven't got the Black and White yet, obviously, and I think my firered is lost in the black hole of mine. My room is neat, but when my brother and sister come, it is turned into a black hole.
|
I never play RYB (sadly), but I don't think that the second generation can completely die, like, ever. I still play Crystal more than all the other games combined, and while I haven't tried the IV or V generations yet, I still find it better than RSE.
I mean, it's probably because people have a hard time changing their likes and dislikes so I never really gave Gen III a fair try but still, I like Generation II a great deal and I'm sure there's other folks like me out there (or most probably in here) so, as far as I and we are concerned, GSC ain't dying anytime soon. |
i don't think there dead there's a certain nostalgia that will never be lost. that is as long as we keep playing the games. i for one have restarted to play red and i am purchasing pokemon green from japan
|
I wish I still had all my old games :( I used to have every version up to Emerald, but my DS and Gameboy and all of my games where stolen last year, and I just got a new DS and some games a few months ago. Now all I have are LeafGreen, Emerald, Diamond and SoulSilver.
I want all of them again, so I've been looking around online for them. The ones I miss the most are Yellow and Silver. I have them as ROMS on my computer, but I can't seem to get very far. It's just not the same. |
I see mine as being ancient.
Haha, but really I hardly ever play them anymore. One reason being I can't find my Gameboy Advance, so yeah :/ Though they are old, and they have been remade, I still like the keep them for memory purposes. Good times... |
Actually in my math class about a week before the finals, while I was playing HeartGold for some random training, a friend of mine was playing blue version on the old Gameboy Color. It was actually pretty cool to see it and look at how far we've come. Though I always loved the surf sprite from the old versions since it looked like the player turned into a seel-like thing.
I believe she was in Cinnabar Island, and taking a Charizard, Dewgong and some others. |
I'm still play all of them, but in my phone :p
|
Nevah! I actually play them more than I do B/W or HG. 3 years ago I was obsessed with my w/ my DS and Diamond. After stupidly saving inside a fountain because of WalkThruWalls, I decided to give it a break. Dug out my GBA, and my FR, then bought Yellow and Blue (Save's dead) and I play that. I'm aiming to get Silver and Ruby and my collection will be complete. Maybe I'll try a pirated english Green as a sidequest.
|
I'm guilty of abandoning my old games for the most part. :x |
Silver is seriously all I've been playing as of late. I'm actually making plans to customize my gameboy color soon. I pick up pearl, but I can't handle slugging through the quest line for the fifth time. However, no matter how many times I play through silver I never grow tired of it. And me and my friends have compiled a gameboy club, so I get occasional battles out of it. None of my friends are any good though.
|
I only play the roms of them now
|
I see them as classics! I pick em up every once in a while and feel so much great nostalgia. Therefore I believe they'll never die and will remain the base of the great series that it Pokemon.
|
I haven't played any of my Gen I/II games for a long while now. Probably because that when I did pick up my Gold version, I found out that the in-game clock died. Never touched them since.
|
I recently started playing Yellow again but I haven't even seen or touched any of my other old games since Heart Gold and Soul Silver came out.
|
I stopped playing the originals when FR/LG came out, and I stopped playing Generation II when I lost them/batteries died, but I'd still love to play through all of them again. Recently seeing the old sprites from RBY have given me a lot of nostalgia and I think I'll pick those games up again sometime...if I can find them.
|
It's pretty cool that we can have ROMs for them now so they never have to die completely. I still have my old games but lost my old GBC (clear purple lolz) otherwise I would have definitely fired up blue version for the nuzlocke challenge.
|
I can't find any of mine except for my red, and my sister's dead silver.
I downloaded a Rom the other day of blue to mess around with Missingno. |
I still play these games. Reminds me of the vintage and style back then. So I still play the old games for fun you know?
|
I gave away my old game boy advance SP to my relatives in Jamacia, so I don't have these games anymore. And yes, even though Black and White are in the Horizon, I will always remember them because those were what interested me in pokemon in the first place. My first game being pokemon Yellow; followed up with Blue [never did played Red]. I also remember these games, because its kind of how I met my first friends; we used to play pokemon Gold and Yellow together; used to complain how hard the Elite four was in Yellow, and how tough the Ice Cave was in Pokemon Gold. These games are classic; I'd sooner play them again, if I'd ever had one of these games and a game boy classic or something; to bring up a little nostalgia before tackiling the new generation. :3
|
I play my Silver and my Yellow every now and again. Sometimes I play Red, Blue, and Crystal, but Silver and Yellow were always my favourites, and always will be.
They don't just gather dust on my shelf :) |
I pretty much hate any pokemon game pre Gen III. I find then far too basic.
So, they are dead in the section of games that are obsolete. |
