Daily Chit-Chat -- Autumn and/or Spring Edition

THE DAILY CHIT-CHAT

Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to the seasonal Daily Chit-Chat! The DCC's been very active this year and the annual thread was just getting too big. So we're giving the idea of restarting it every 4 months (to coincide with the seasons!) to see how that works out. ♥

Now then, things to keep in mind:
  • No spamming!
    This is not a random thread. Though the topic may change at the drop of a hat, please do not come in and say something totally off-topic. It's annoying, you'll get ignored, and you might get an infraction.
  • No leaving/welcome posts.
    Just jump right into the conversation! If you come in just to say "Hi, I'm here now. What are we talking about?" it's just spammy. It's fine to tack on "Heading to bed now!" or something if you already have a substantial post and want to let people know you aren't gonna be around to continue your discussion, but otherwise, please don't post this sort of thing at all!
  • Do not ask about the topic.
    This is spam, plain and simple! If you can't figure out what the topic is, read back a page. If the topic is dying down, feel free to change it to something new.
  • Respect everyone.
    This should go without saying, but alas, it must be said. No name-calling, no flaming, no trolling, don't be offensive, and don't make anyone uncomfortable. Everyone is welcome in this thread.

With that out of the way, if you have any questions, feel free to PM an Other Chat moderator, myself, or any higher staff if you have any questions. Happy chatting!

I was wondering where the other chit chat page went when I loaded the OC page. XD I like this idea, it seems like it'll help keep the threads from becoming to large. ^__^

I guess we need a topic...how about...who here LOVES autumn? I DO! XD

Livewire September 28th, 2010 10:16 AM

Well first post in the Autumn DCC. :D I need to type faster. D:

That being said, as it's now fall, I'm psyched for Halloween this year. And im usually not.

Ivysaur September 28th, 2010 10:16 AM

Damn, I was too busy making a Twitter account to get the first reply XD Oh well, next time maybe.

Pfft, not even second.

I like Autumn, but I get cold too easily D;

I am! Nicer weather. It's more balanced where I live. :)

Cherrim September 28th, 2010 10:22 AM

It's been raining or cloudy all week since Autumn officially started. I have no umbrella, no rain jacket, and I got so soaked today. ;_; I want the rain to stop and the snow to start... or else go back to summer temperatures plz.

@Went: omg twitter. ♥

Alice September 28th, 2010 10:22 AM

Not fast enough. =(

I hate Autumn though... (who actually says autumn instead of fall anyway?) I love hot weather, so summer and spring are my favorites.

I like the rain alright. It's best when it's warm out though. (Your next post is 25k btw! Congrats. lol)

Cherrim September 28th, 2010 10:28 AM

Omg is it really? Aww damnit! I should've let the new DCC be my 25k post. :( Laaaame!

I say autumn instead of fall because it sounds nicer. (Actually, I wish I did, but the word "fall" tends to come to my mind sooner. Oh well.) It definitely looked better in the thread title so I went with that. XD;

Netto Azure September 28th, 2010 10:36 AM

What happens if it dies during the end of the seasons? D:

Also Hottest Day in Los Angeles Yesterday! ;A;

Alice September 28th, 2010 10:40 AM

^ At the end of September? It's like 30 degrees under the hottest temperature here. lol

Where I live (and I'm not talking about New Bark Town...>__<) it doesn't really start staying cold until winter, but at the least, we start getting rain in autumn, which is a relief from the sweltering summers we tend to have. XD

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ September 28th, 2010 10:44 AM

Here in North Carolina, we were still getting temperatures in the 90's as recently as Saturday. A cold front did come through Sunday and brought cooler temps and a whole lot of rain. It's still overcast outside:/

Alice September 28th, 2010 10:46 AM

Maybe I'm weird, but if I had my way, it would be over 100 degrees every day of the year. (37 Celsius.)

Martins September 28th, 2010 10:46 AM

Where I live, the weather cannot be predicted! One day it's sunny and very hot, the other day it's raining and it's cold.

And a new DCC! I like the idea of a different and new DCC every season.

This past week the temperature hasn't broken 70, and its been sort of overcast and rainy. Before that it was 85+ in OH and it was terrible. >_>

Alice September 28th, 2010 10:50 AM

^ I can't believe how many people think 85 is hot. That's hilarious imo.

I know, I have family that visits from Oregon, and they get here when it is 85 out and complain about how hot it while we who live here just enjoy it. XD Although, I love winter personally, so I love it when it is 45 degrees Fahrenheit out. XD

Alice September 28th, 2010 11:08 AM

Meh. I can deal with winter, but 85 is even too cold for me honestly lol.

Cherrim September 28th, 2010 11:08 AM

85F is just under 30C and that's definitely getting up there. I can't stand anything over 30C. :(

Twelve months divided by four seasons = every three months???

Chikara September 28th, 2010 11:13 AM

I'm happy it's finally cooling down. I think the high today is 86F? It happened all of a sudden too :|a

Actually wore sleeves today.....

Alice September 28th, 2010 11:15 AM

^ I'll switch houses with you. It's only like 70 here. =/

Pokestick, good times. September 28th, 2010 11:15 AM

It's so cold here nowadays.
And with cold I mean like around 12C, or something like 53F.

I can't stand cold, because I can't go out with just a shirt then D;

You don't want my house. You just don't.

Jack O'Neill September 28th, 2010 11:20 AM

So, we're finally back to seasonal DCCs? Last time I remember having those was...four years ago? Not that it matters, though.

In other news, it's currently 26°C where I am. I think the expected high today is somewhere around 30-35°C. Just the way I like things, really.

jigglyppuff8 September 28th, 2010 11:23 AM

I feel bad for using the customary system. :x
It was near the high 70°Fs on the walk home today. Once again, I brought an umbrella anticipating rain, but when classes ended, it was sunny. ;;

We actually haven't gotten a Hurricane in like... 2 years. Or where I am, we didn't.

It's not BAD here, it's just. The norm is 95F, and the humidity makes it feel like 100F+. All the time. During Summer, especially. It just gets tiring after being here for so long(I've lived here since I was 4).

It's nice for a vacation though, but that's about it imo o3o

It's hotter here, but without the humidity. When we get thunderstorms on days with 100+ temperatures, it gets pretty humid, and I love it. lol

Ahhh, snow...it has only snowed here in northern California once in my life, when I was like, 9 or 10....it wasn't that bad, but my parents let me stay home from school anyways. XD

Eucliffe September 28th, 2010 11:46 AM

Seasonal...DCCs?

I mean, autumn is when my birthday is an it's my favorite season and all, but I liked seeing how many posts the DCC had by the end of the year.

Oh well.

If it snowed here, even just an inch, EVERYTHING WOULD SHUT DOWN. No one here would have any idea what to do, and no one knows how to drive on icy roads LMFAO. That's one reason why I want it, I'll have a slow day at work =u=

APPARENTLY IT SNOWS IN TEXAS??

Eucliffe September 28th, 2010 11:50 AM

With global climate change, it can snow anywhere now. I wouldn't be surprised if it snowed on the equator. Or the equator AND the meridian line (being the dead center of the earth).

Chikara September 28th, 2010 11:53 AM

If it snowed on the equator, I would scream.

Yeah, I have friends who live in Texas and they say it snows there, and all I can say to them is "TEXAS GETS SNOW AND I DON'T?!?!?!" I'm at a higher freaking latitude and everything!

Eucliffe September 28th, 2010 11:56 AM

CLIMATE CHANGE.

There's a reason we hear about it in the news.

Heck, Maryland hadn't had a blizzard as bad as the one in February since who knows when. /and I got two weeks off without extra days added on to summer vacation because the week following the blizzard we were supposed to get off anyhow

Alice September 28th, 2010 11:59 AM

We didn't have ANY snow here for about a decade after I got here. If I got really lucky it would snow once, MAYBE twice, but not stick at all. Now, in 07 and 08, we had 2 snow days a year, with enough snow to have snowball fights, and make snowmen. The works. We didn't get much in 09 though.

What are you talking about? The Hurricanes are the best thing about Florida. :3

/is serious

We haven't gotten a Hurricane in about two years though. ;___; Southern Florida should be getting one soon though~

/lives in Central Florida. But still. Is excited.

I miss the snow. ;___;

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ September 28th, 2010 12:03 PM

It seems that around here we usually get one snowstorm in the winter (per year) that closes everything for a day or two. But I remember last winter being more active, with at least three "snow events" (that's what the news channel calls them around here.)

Eucliffe September 28th, 2010 12:04 PM

The last hurricane we got that was bad was Hurricane Isabel. Knocked our power out for quite some time.

Can't remember any other situations like that though. And I think yesterday or something there was apparently a tornado warning at some point nearby.

alisaie September 28th, 2010 12:06 PM

Last Tropical Storm (it wasn't a Hurricane) that we got in Central Florida caused us to have two first days of school. XD

And then there was that Tropical Storm that thought it would be cool to hit Florida, turn around, and hit Florida again.

Hurricanes are awesome.

Martins September 28th, 2010 12:15 PM

We never experienced a hurricane or tornado of some sort. I think they are cool. I want one to happen.

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ September 28th, 2010 12:19 PM

I live too far inland to get much from hurricanes besides a lot of rain, however...

My parents' vacation property nearly took a direct hit from Hugo back in '89 (but somehow survived without damage) just a few months after they had bought it. IIRC, that region (coastal South Carolina) hasn't taken a direct hit from a major hurricane since.

alisaie September 28th, 2010 12:22 PM

Nowhere has really taken such a bad hit since Katrina. Mainly because all the Hurricanes are A. not powerful enough or B. they want to just curve up, away from America, and just hit Bermuda.

/yes. realizes that she speaks like Hurricanes have minds. Don't blame me for my odd liking over 'em~

I can kinda see that tbh. I bet it's exciting, but still, property damage.

I live in a valley, so the only natural disaster that we could ever possibly get is an earthquake or volcano eruption. Considering that I live on the ring of fire... they aren't really all that unlikely. A small (like 2-3.0 probably) earthquake woke me up last year, but it's the only one I've ever been awake to feel. I've also gone through 2 other big ones, but didn't wake up.

alisaie September 28th, 2010 12:26 PM

Maybe I'll care more about the property damage once I move closer to where Hurricanes actually hit. However, I currently live in the part of Florida that barely gets anything more than a Tropical Storm.

/lives pretty much smack in the middle of the state; about an hour's away from each shore line east and west.

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ September 28th, 2010 12:32 PM

I really can't think of any major natural disasters that would occur where I'm currently attending school, aside from the remnants of hurricanes like I mentioned earlier. We do seem to go through alternating periods of drought followed by drenching rain, though.

Yuoaman September 28th, 2010 12:33 PM

The only natural disaster in northern Ontario is winter really, and that can get pretty intense some years. Last year it was -50 degrees Celsius at one point.

Alice September 28th, 2010 12:39 PM

Yeah, that's pretty epic. It gets -70F where I used to live in Alaska. lol

Your eyelashes would literally freeze. rofl

alisaie September 28th, 2010 12:40 PM

I used to be able to withstand the cold back when I lived in Colorado. However, since I moved to Florida, my blood has thinned out, and thus I can't withstand it as much as I used to. :(

Alice September 28th, 2010 12:43 PM

I actually can take the cold a lot better than I used to. Anything below 70 and I needed a coat. Now, I go out when it's below freezing in a tshirt, and laugh at ppl wearing multiple coats and still shivering.

I like extremes on both end of the spectrum really. I just hate when it's 40-60.

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ September 28th, 2010 12:44 PM

Ugh.. I hated winter growing up (I lived in upstate New York). I don't recall some of the temperature extremes, but the temperature would often go well below zero for days at a time. But the worst part is that it just lasted for so long... the cold season was from October to April. And of course, I was the one who was assigned with the task of shoveling the driveway...

That's the main reason I decided to go to college in the Carolinas... to get away from those brutal winters. Of course, it didn't help that I still had to go back home for winter break... and a snowstorm even stranded me at the Cleveland, Ohio Greyhound bus station one time :/

alisaie September 28th, 2010 12:44 PM

I would probably be one of those people in multiple coats and still shivering. :( /is that bad now.

I enjoyed snow~ . . . Prolly because I never had to shovel the driveway or anything. xD;

Esper September 28th, 2010 12:46 PM

I don't know how all of you can stand to live where it gets so cold. I spent a year living where it snows and that was too much for me. How do you manage?

Surmonter September 28th, 2010 12:47 PM

I love cold weather.

Snow is so pretty.

Oh, by the way, it snowed today. It's..obviously not even October. I don't live in a cold place..at least, not that cold.

But still..it SNOWED. @[email protected]

Alice September 28th, 2010 12:51 PM

Some people just like cold weather. I don't understand it either... I'm so much more comfortable in the heat.

Chikara September 28th, 2010 12:52 PM

IT ALMOST SNOWED HERE LAST YEAR.

It was cold enough, but since it wasn't hot out, not enough water was evaporating, so all the storms stayed off the coast /cries

alisaie September 28th, 2010 12:54 PM

It actually did flurry here last Winter in Central Florida. :D

I like the cold more than the heat definitely, as I'd rather pack on layers on clothing, than wearing next to nothing and still be sweating. :(

Alice September 28th, 2010 12:55 PM

Well, I'm going to go for a bike ride while I can still enjoy this very mediocre weather.

Chikara September 28th, 2010 12:55 PM

I heard about that, my sister goes to UCF, so she got a little bit of it ;3;

Whyyy can't it snow in Jacksonville what did Jacksonville ever do to anyone. Except for being boring.

Not really. I would much rather be really cold than really hot, it's a lot easier to warm up than it is to cool down. ^-^; At least for me..BECAUSE I AM FAT ^o^

Aizuke September 28th, 2010 1:03 PM

Oh wow, I remember when the DCC title's were named after seasons.

Also, I use to love the cold, but now I seem to get more sick easily when I'm cold so I kinda hate it now, lol. :(

alisaie September 28th, 2010 1:14 PM

My mom was kind of the same way. She got sick pretty easily in the cold during the winter, and her body didn't take to the altitude real well either. Thus, we ended up moving down to Florida. At first I didn't see too many upsides, and while I'm not happy about the weather, I have found upsides to it~

Captain Hobo. September 28th, 2010 1:14 PM

I love snow and cold that is why I am going to move to Colorado.

Charizard★ September 28th, 2010 1:16 PM

Ooo, new thread :D

Back on topic, I hate the snow ._.

Alice September 28th, 2010 1:16 PM

Just got back from my bike ride, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it's actually in the upper 80s today. Maybe it changed because I complained about it being cold so much. The heat really hyped me up, so I finished my route in record time. lol

Netto Azure September 28th, 2010 1:19 PM

It was pretty chilly over here. I'm dreading the winter D:

Well, I was born in the winter, and almost died because of it as a baby, but then I grew more and more resistant to the cold. But I just don't like getting wet from the snow and having to carry around a jacket in school since my locker is full of books that I don't want to get wet. :/

I'm from New England, the snow is a nice treat but after a while, it gets quite annoying. Especially when i have to shovel X(

Why so much hate on winter?

The season I despise most is summer. If anything, I'd rather we start school in spring and get out in fall so we can have winter vacation. Sure it limits vacation ideas, but hey, it's not like my mom, stepdad and I can really go many places. My dad and I can, though.

I also hate summer because it's too damn hot, too damn buggy, and it's too damn popular. Spring's the same way with me, except it isn't as buggy and it can still snow in spring.

Ahh, I hate that part too. My parents make me shovel tho, since I'm the only boy in my family.

I was also born around the time a blizzard hit MD. Apparently when my mom was at home with me a nurse had to ice skate to our house from the end of the driveway we shared with two of our neighbors. And we were in the very back.

I think snow is the only thing I love about the cold, and it barely snows in Australia. ;A; I feel neglected from the white puffy coldness.

There was a sand storm in the Middle East when I was born........
It didn't impact my being born, however.
Because it was in the Middle East.
I was born in California :D

Ne, Percent, some of the text in your usertitle comes up as question marks in diamonds. There are three of them right before the Katakana "Ru".

Haha, why is that? XD;

Just Australia specific or some other reason?

Alice September 28th, 2010 1:43 PM

Haha, and I just asking to switch to Florida. I'd take Australia too. My friend lives down there, and is always trying to get me to visit him. (Like I have the money. -.-)

Eucliffe September 28th, 2010 1:44 PM

Never call it "money". Money implies something negative. The currency is cash. The stuff you buy with cash is money.

Not to mention orange is the color for cash.

/mom took a cash class and I actually listened to what she learned because I want to get out of my grandparents' house ASAP
