インフェルノの津波 December 19th, 2010 3:59 PM

Jellyfish are awesome sauce.

But they are nothing compared to octopuses and squids, and cuttlefish.

AshPikastar December 19th, 2010 4:09 PM

Now I never seen a Octopuses in RL. Hopefully I'll get the chance to see these cool creatures in Seaworld.

Maraala December 19th, 2010 4:10 PM

Last time I went to the beach was to Myrtle Beach last summer
/totally stayed in the arcades most of the time there

I was either in the arcade or the pool except at night when I actually went on the beach

EmeraldSerenade December 19th, 2010 4:13 PM

I was stung by a jellyfish one time. Its not fun.

Captain Fabio December 19th, 2010 4:15 PM

I have been stung before, not a pleasant thing. But not that bad.

Maraala December 19th, 2010 4:22 PM

I have the joy of never being stung yet, but from what I've heard it is very painful

The Witch from Left 4 Dead is beautiful but she is extremely dangerous especially after you startle her

I would play pretty much anything if I could, although it's a shame my parents worship the ESRB as a prominent diety.

That's a shame...
I'm guessing they won't let you play any of the good games?

Maraala December 19th, 2010 4:49 PM

I don't pay attention to the ESRB and neither do my parents
If a game interests me then I will play it

Sweet Candace December 19th, 2010 4:50 PM

Pretty much all of the good games out are games that have an 'M' rating (Call of Duty is a big one).

I honestly think that if the kid wants to play a game like CoD, they should be allowed to.

Maraala December 19th, 2010 4:54 PM

CoD is starting to get overated
I mean it was good for the first couple of games. Modern Warfare was okay but then Black Ops... Ugh...

A series is good until they have about 20 games that are mostly the same
Except for Final Fantasy. That is the only exception

AshPikastar December 19th, 2010 4:56 PM

I'm not really into those types of games. FF seems pretty good though and I'm they make a new Spyro game. I think they are working on one actually.

Maraala December 19th, 2010 4:59 PM

Spyro was actually one of my favorite PS1 series and still is one of those I wouldn't mind playing nowadays.
I do hope they come out with a new one~

AshPikastar December 19th, 2010 5:02 PM

I forgot what the name of the new Spyro game be but it was going to be for the Wii.

What? Seriously?
Final Fantasy is as bad as Mario. They will keep spawning games because it makes them money.

CoD isn't that bad. Black Ops is so much better than Modern Warfare. But it is all down to opinion.

Maraala December 19th, 2010 5:08 PM

Ugh Mario is also one of those horrible series. Galaxy was just ugh...
Let's hope Metroid doesn't turn out like Mario, cause Other M wasn't all that great that I thought it would be

I'll play CoD but it is not my series of choice (Bioshock and L4D takes that)

loliwin December 19th, 2010 5:08 PM

IMO
Black Ops is much more balanced (or better) than Modern Warfare 2 :)
Final Fantasy isnt that bad.... VII and IX are the best in the series imo XD

AshPikastar December 19th, 2010 5:09 PM

I remember Mario. I'm not a huge fan of it but I mainly played Mario Galaxy and Mario 64.

I liked X and X-2~
Rikku <333

Captain Fabio December 19th, 2010 5:22 PM

The only FF I ever liked was FF VIII.
All the others I didn't enjoy and XIII felt like banging my head against a wall.

I don't care if it gets better 14 hours in, I want a game to be immersive from the beginning.

AshPikastar December 19th, 2010 5:27 PM

I never played FF but I've heard of it and seen what the games look like on Youtube. The only one I have played was the PC version but I didn't like it as much as I hoped.

Ninja Caterpie December 19th, 2010 5:32 PM

My favourite Final Fantasy was Tactics A2. It was so much fun. :3

Alice December 19th, 2010 5:43 PM

Tales of ... ftw! I've never actually played FF.

I agree.
My favourite was 'Tales of Symphonia'. Such a great game and I have completed it many times.

Akita December 19th, 2010 6:18 PM

I have to back Sammy on this: Bioshock is my game of choice (plus the RE series). I'm not really a fan of RPGs.

Oh, and Legend of Zelda ftw~

Livewire December 19th, 2010 6:24 PM

Yo FF imma let you finish, but Golden Sun is the best RPG of all time. OF ALL TIME

I've never actually played a FF game, true story. :/

da_absol December 19th, 2010 6:25 PM

actualy YGO is a lot easier to play than the pokemon card game. I mainly like the 5ds storyline however and that's the main reason why im a fan.

Call me crazy, but I couldn't get into Symphonia... I stopped at level 11, I think. I was in some futuristic place for the first time, and still have no clue what the deal was. lol

Tales of Vesperia is my favorite.

Same here, I want to try, though.

Has anyone heard of Syphon Filter? It's one of the most awesome shooter games out there, and I can't stop playing their games. They're so addicting. Syphon Filter 2 was my first M-rated game I bought, and I was 12-13.

Maraala December 19th, 2010 6:31 PM

ToS is amazing~
I'm glad I was recommended to it~
I'm currently playing LoZ: Phantom Hourglass and The World Ends With You and I'm lovin' them both~

AshPikastar December 19th, 2010 6:36 PM

Now TOS is one game that I actually want to get into. Hopefully I'll be able to rent it at Blockbusters to see if I like it.

Wings of Fire December 19th, 2010 6:37 PM

Wait a minute... why is everyone talking in Farenheit??? I live in Australia, and we call it Celsius, so I have NO IDEA how to respond... Personally, though, I like Winter, Autumn and Spring.
Winter, cuz I just do,. i don't no why. i just do.
Autumn, cuz of all the pretty leaves that fall from the trees!
Spring, cuz new life is born. All the animals come back out, and everything is growing.
Summer is just a bit to hot for me, even with all the beaches, ice creams and stuff here...

インフェルノの津波 December 19th, 2010 6:54 PM

I'm playing YGO 5D's Stardust Accelerator as we speak. YGO's pretty good. Though I hate the fact that if you're not a good duelist with good cards, you're pretty much screwed.

AshPikastar December 19th, 2010 6:56 PM

I never got into YGO nor did I play the games. I mainly liked the theme song.

The Baldur's Gate and Fallout games and Planescape: Torment are actually the best RPGs of all time. No "RPG" made by Square Enix, Namco Bandai, or Nintendo can come close to any of them.

Luck December 19th, 2010 7:43 PM

You're serious? Fallout 3 was one of the most boring games I have ever played. I don't know who thought it'd be a good idea to have a giant wasteland. Ooh, an apocalyptic city, how original.I can't really say anything about New Vegas, but it looks like the same buggy garbage as Fallout 3, just in a desert wasteland. Oooooh, the game is rusty instead of gray.

If you're going to make side quests your main selling point for a game, then you should stop developing games, especially when you forget to add the fun in it.

Jack O'Neill December 19th, 2010 8:22 PM

As if the generic crap that Square Enix shoves down people's throats on a regular basis is actually better. Just admit that you hate Western developers and nonlinear gameplay already.

Because whenever I say something that doesn't completely agree with you, I must be a xenophobe of everything Western. Wonderful logic there. Maybe you should stop making it seem like Bethesda and Bioware are the speakers of Western developers. Valve, Naughty Dog, Guerilla Games, Bungie, and even Irrational Games are all Western studios(as far as I know) and they actually manage to make fun games.

And I don't hate nonlinear games either. I don't hate Bioware despite having lackluster combat. You need to get those demons of stupidity expelled from you immediately.

インフェルノの津波 December 19th, 2010 9:10 PM

I'm thinking of buying that game, Cabbage.

Will it keep me busy for a while?

Ninja Caterpie December 19th, 2010 10:04 PM

It's a good game. It kept me busy for a while because I loved it and played it beyond the end (which I've done for, what, two games? it and FFTA2)

インフェルノの津波 December 19th, 2010 10:09 PM

And I can always count on you to be oblivious and inattentive. There's no such thing as a nice and civil conversation in this place. Also, you will note that I specifically singled out Square Enix as emblematic of the malaise that has been afflicting the Japanese gaming industry for the past few years.

Oh look, you can post an image macro. How is that relevant to the debate again?

Also, way to move the goalposts. The actual topic was the merits of Japanese "RPGs" and Western RPGs. Instead of actually discussing what you like about Japanese RPGs or further explaining what you didn't like about Fallout 3 (you're yet another person who hasn't played the first two), you namedrop studios that haven't developed or published any RPGs at all. What kind of point are you trying to make? What do the developers of Half-Life, Uncharted, Killzone, Halo, and Bioshock have to do with the developers of Fallout and Final Fantasy?

millions of people worldwide can't be wrong, brah. Eastern RPGs sell tens of millions more than western ones. :P

Cherrim December 20th, 2010 1:11 AM

The only Bethesda game I've played is Oblivion, which I'm playing now. (Well, not this moment but I've been playing it recently.)

I find it a little hard to get into simply because it's so open. @[email protected] I kind of prefer linear plots and characters because I don't get so damn sidetracked so easily! I told myself, in order to actually beat the game so I can get on to other things in my backlog, I'd only do the main quest threads and ignore everything else. That... has not been happening. :( I accidentally ended up in the DLC and now I've just given up on trying to beat it before the end of the year, lol.

It's definitely a matter of taste. x_X I have no attention span so dropping me in a world and letting me go wherever and do whatever is bad, because essentially nothing gets done, but stuff like FF13 was immensely boring exploration-wise. :( I wonder if there's a series that strikes a good balance? I kind of think the Tales of series it the only one I can think of but even that's pretty typical JRPG fare.

If you're a person who can enjoy older uglier games, you should try Morrowind, the prequel to Oblivion. It's better in many ways, for one your character is a lot more customizable and your initial class choice doesn't have to be what you end up as, and there's just endless things to do. But there's a main storyline. Although it's a little weird.

Also, bitter thread is bitter. If you haven't got anything nicer to say about each other, you might as well not say anything at all. /acting parent-ish

Alternative December 20th, 2010 7:09 AM

Everyone seems to be into those RPG/Sandbox games, which is what I consider Fallout 3/New Vegas to be. Basically do whatever you want and follow the main plot if you want to.

Also, I would really really like to have Fable 3.

donavannj December 20th, 2010 7:21 AM

Well, I don't blame them. Sandbox games and simulation games in the vein are awesome. See also: The Movies, Sim City. ^_^

Alternative December 20th, 2010 7:31 AM

I've never been into those sorts of games. Simulation games are alright, but Sandbox is where I draw the line. I've played Fallout 3 and got abducted by aliens and didn't really like it. Heck I even bought Minecraft and got bored of it easily.

I like games where you have a clear mission and you have to complete it to that time. I've enjoyed games like GTA IV and Saints Row and found them enjoyable since they had a mission which you could do, as well as go out and do whatever you feel like.

donavannj December 20th, 2010 7:58 AM

I prefer more open-ended games, and, if one were to log all the hours I spent playing games in my life, probably 55% would be devoted to simulation and strategy games. (It'd be higher, but Pokemon has a pretty large share itself).

Regeneration December 20th, 2010 8:18 AM

The highly technical simulator games are not what I like at all. I just play games for fun, that's just my choice. XD

donavannj December 20th, 2010 8:28 AM

What's your definition of a highly technical simulator?

Regeneration December 20th, 2010 8:37 AM

Flight Simulator X.

I just want to have some casual simulator games.

donavannj December 20th, 2010 8:40 AM

Do you consider Sim City casual? Or The Sims? :3 both games have droves of hardcore fans, though

Regeneration December 20th, 2010 8:42 AM

/shrugs

I've never tried playing those games, so can't say. :x

donavannj December 20th, 2010 9:04 AM

You should totally play those game series. Seriously worth your time. Of course, this is coming from someone who loves games like Sim City and Civilization.

Regeneration December 20th, 2010 9:19 AM

Hmm.. I'll be sure to try those games. My personal favourites are mostly strategy games; Rise of Nations and Command & Conquer series topping my favourites list.

donavannj December 20th, 2010 9:26 AM

My top strategy games are the Age of Empires series and the Civilization series.

Yuoaman December 20th, 2010 12:40 PM

I love the Civilization series, I once spent a whole weekend playing Civilization III trying to conquer the entire world by force rather than peacefully like I usually did. My favorite of the series has to be Civilization IV, Civilization V just pales in comparison in my opinion - it just doesn't feel like a true Civilization game.

Sweet Candace December 20th, 2010 12:41 PM

I hate the Barbarians in Civ. Probably because I don't leave much defense as I use my cities to churn out mostly Settler units.

I've heard that about Civillization V myself, but I've never played them. Age of Empires + Rise of Nations for me.

I'm sure I'd enjoy V as much as IV. The only Civ games I haven't played are Colonization, the Facebook version, and the original. I've played Alpha Centauri, Civ II, Civ III, and Civ IV, as well as Revolution on the Xbox 360 and DS. Those are all a blast to play. Civ III and VI are probably the ones I'm best at, though. Everything I've heard about Civ V sounds like a Civ game to me, except for the fact that you can't have more than one unit in a tile. That would take some getting used to on my part. Stacks of Doom are my favorite tools and my worst nightmares. Technically they didn't exist in III, but you could still pile units into a tile. You just had to move them all individually.
