My School is better than yours~

Yes, even yours. My School is better.

Still, you can try to refute me. What exactly do you think your school has that makes it unique, great, and/or stand out from the other schools? Let it be Middle Schools, High Schools, or Uni.

As for my high school:
  • About 900 students from 3 counties compressed into not an exactly large building
  • You have to take Calculus before college (AP) to just be considered average.
  • A lot of electives for Engineering students
  • It is cool to listen to your music with big fat headphones and wear those headphones the whole day.
  • What's for lunch: Food of the day, Snack Line, Cafeteria Pizza, Burger, or Domino's Pizza
  • I'm attending it

Livewire September 30th, 2010 6:29 PM

We had Kid Cudi, Drake, and Gorilla Zoe do a concert on campus last year.

Mario The World Champion September 30th, 2010 6:55 PM

My schools sucked. They were just ordinary and nothing special.

bna_li September 30th, 2010 7:10 PM

I find it interesting how people define their school as good/bad according to how fun it is, what food they have for lunch, or what kind of people attend there, as opposed to how good of an education they're receiving.

donavannj September 30th, 2010 7:15 PM

My high school had (and probably still does have) a day long concert of various students performing for their fellow students on a stage in the cafeteria once a year. They called it Coffeehouse. And it used to be held in the school's dinky little library until the school was expanded. ^-^;;

My college has wifi you can access EVERYWHERE in the building, including the bathrooms. And most of the instructors have great personalities and are flexible if life decides to drop a big huge dookie on you. ^-^;; And it's got an anime club that meets at its other campus and also only at times that I absolutely cannot make it D|. ~_^
And it should go without saying that it's culturally diverse. ;D

And I find the quality of education at both to be of good monetary value. ^-^;;

Mario The World Champion September 30th, 2010 7:18 PM

The reason why I say my schools sucked is because I got bullied badly. Not wanting to go to school because of that crap and having to deal with all those *******s affects how you do in school. Plus, they pretty much turned a blind eye to it, no matter what I did to have it rectified.

The whole Phoebe Prince case was a wake up call, but her suicide might be in vain. I don't see schools changing anytime soon.

Guillermo September 30th, 2010 8:16 PM

My old school had one of the best australian football teams in Australia for a school? That's about it.

And my old, old, old school was the most expensive school where I live. Nothing special. D:

femtrooper September 30th, 2010 8:21 PM

My University is AWESOME. Why? Because the class sizes are like max 40 people. Most of the time they are like 25 students. Why is this good?

Because:
  • You actually get to know the teacher and they you.
  • You can ask questions...and get answers unlike if you had 500 students in a class.
  • We actually get to write papers and do research projects. I know that in many universities you can't do that...they only make you do tests because teachers can't mark 500 12pg essays.
  • My profs actually mark MY essays...I know that many universities get grad students to mark undergrad's essays cause the prof just can't mark that many essays.

Anyway, it's a great University and because there are so few students in a classroom, the learning is great. Go Mount Royal! I am also a Bachelor of Arts student if anyone was wondering. :D

Yuoaman September 30th, 2010 8:59 PM

I love Algoma, I can't imagine going anywhere else. Where else would you have sex with a chair on stage in front of a hundred people you don't know? (I was hypnotized dammit.) The class sizes are also very comfortable, and I've never met such a wide assortment of awesome people.

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ September 30th, 2010 10:33 PM

Well, my high school had great people (both students in my grade and my teachers) and the school where I did my undergraduate studies had a few standout professors and some great events and clubs on campus.

As for my school now, I wish I could say the same, but...
-The professors here are average at best and horrible at worst.
-Money is shamelessly wasted here on unnecessary crap like extra stoplights, a Jumbo-tron screen at the entrance, and a new stadium for a forthcoming football team that we don't need because an NFL team is just down the road.
-The campus is too large for its own good and getting around is exhausting.

PlatinumDude September 30th, 2010 11:00 PM

Some redeeming factors of my school:
-over 1800 students of different countries attend it
-we have the latest technology for student research (Macbooks)
-Teachers are nice and willing to help, though a few are strict

Stellar September 30th, 2010 11:46 PM

In my school, students are required to take a CTE (Career and Technical Education) class where they spend nearly half of the school day dealing in things like culinary, auto body, etc. Because of this it became a a sort of refuge for would-be dropouts and was regarded as the bottom of the barrel as far as schools go... but whether that's true or not is highly debatable.

The CTE class I chose was Commercial Art where I worked in programs like Photoshop and Illustrator, designing things such as logos and business cards for mock companies. We'd also be assigned a lot of more creative projects like character design and figure studies. Basically, I spent half of my junior and senior years in a classroom that dealt with the most important thing to me: creativity. Not calculus.

And my God, the people I met. My teacher was the kind of person who could relate to his students without ever forgetting his role in the classroom. He taught me a lot of things about art and about life, things that I'll never forget. And we students as a whole functioned more like a family than anything else. Sometimes it got out of hand (Pokémon tournaments during class, anybody?) but we always managed to get things done. And I am really going to miss those people.

Are there better schools out there? Of course, you wouldn't have to look far to find a higher academic rating. But I spent two full years of my life working with people who not only shaped the person I am today, but my future as well. And would I have spent them any other way?

Hell no.

Pumpkin Fields October 1st, 2010 2:48 AM

There's no way in hell I can afford to go to a uni, so I'm going to a community college for the next 2 years.
My theatre teacher is incredible, he studied with some huge names. He's really intelligent and passionate about what he does.
My history class could be a little better. The professor doesn't bother going into detail and usually gets bored and lets us out 45 minutes early. That would be awesome if I wasn't going to school to be a history teacher.

Weeaboo Name October 1st, 2010 2:54 AM

You win. My highschool was ******* terrible.

On GCSE pass rates it was 4th worst in the whole of the UK, i'm surprised i got out with 2a* 5b and a selection of Cs (and a didn't turn up to ICT enough to get a grade).

Zet October 1st, 2010 4:01 AM

My school got rid of a majority of all the fatty foods. But then again it was still a terrible school because the education system in the state I live in is still in like the 60's or something.

Binary October 1st, 2010 4:15 AM

Mine's pretty cool, I suppose. Nothing special that really stands out though. I really like my teachers and their flexible personalities, and most of my classmates are fun people to be with. The education quality is superb, in my opinion; But they teach us stuff that we shouldn't really be learning until we get older and more understandable XD. Anyways, we learn more stuff than schools of other countries, though it does get freakin' lame at times. .__.

Enough for the educational; Let's move onto the fun. Our school has 2 large auditoriums and one large outdoor stage around the size of a football pitch. And we get to put on a concert once a year, since me and my band participate in a yearly competition. The cafeteria is pretty cool and the Extra Curricular stuff too, I guess. And we have parties and stuffz.. :D
That's it for the fancy stuff. ;;

Sho7gun October 1st, 2010 4:27 AM

I liked school when the bullying subsided, but i think college is better. I only say this because of the massive headphones comment in the original post.
There is nothing more awesome than going to college thinking:
"Folder,Pens,Guitar & Headphones, yes I have everything :D"

Something about making music everyday just makes homework seem less like homework :P

But I seriously like the College I'm at because of the 2 Industry Standard recording studios, 2 Brand new wooden live rooms & 2 new wooden practice rooms. This is the same college with an Editing Suite good enough for Industry Standard in thier Media Department....just 1 of the floors is taken up by the Learning Recource Centre!!(Fancy Name for Library :S )

you may have a better high-school :P But College will make you forget all about it :)

RYOUKI October 1st, 2010 4:56 AM

My school is horrible. Dubbed as the 'delinquent and idiot' school. Really, even the principal knows it.

mondays suck October 1st, 2010 5:28 AM

My school is wonderful. It consists of two buildings. In particular, that means:

Building 1:
- grey walls
- grey floors
- doors have a deliciously boring green
- almost everything is symmetric

Building 2:
- Walls must have been white some decades ago
- yellow doors
- beautiful dark brown carpet which hasn't been vacuum-cleaned for about 20 years and smells just wonderful.
- staircases that smell even better than the carpet

Even seen such an amazing school?
We even have propaganda pictures with the school logo on the walls here and there.

Zebeedoo October 1st, 2010 6:39 AM

My school has small classes of about 15 people. But loadsss of classrooms. I find it better that way because I don't have to worry about crowds and I can concentrate much easier because the people in my class aren't so scary as the people were in my last school. In my school we also do relaxation classes to.. well, relax. Though I can't really do them because I'm always giggling with my friend at everyone else who is actualy doing it. o/ For break and lunch, you can either have the school's food (which varies) or bring in your own food. You can even have a cup of tea lawl. As for the classes, they're easy enough to understand, but the work is just... too hard. For me at least.

nm legend October 1st, 2010 6:55 AM

my high school was alrite...mostly because i hanged with the kids who were ultra popular.....but it was a school which had the really rich mixed with the poor so it had a huge selling/doing drug problem.....

123wert50 October 1st, 2010 9:07 AM

My school sounds WAYY better than your's. Sorry, but it does. Lol.

Captain Hobo. October 1st, 2010 9:24 AM

My school is very bad there is nothing about it.

Yuoaman October 1st, 2010 2:19 PM

Today the Nerf Club ran around the residence area and we spent two hours shooting at each other and smacking people with foam swords, my school is better.

Charizard★ October 1st, 2010 2:25 PM

I wouldn't really say mine is better but...

-We won conference/championships 4 years in a row Football/Basketball/Swimming/Soccer (Sophomores)
-We have the second highest test grades out of our district.
-umm.......theres a lot of fights? :D [/shot]

Planetes. October 1st, 2010 4:32 PM

uh, lets see....

-PWN ALL DAY IN D1 (High School) Basketball and other sports, but mostly basketball
-Lots of Vending Machines
-Nice Facilities
-98% Graduation Rate, or maybe 99, but somewhere around there
- Hot baaaaaaaabessss

Guy October 1st, 2010 5:11 PM

Not much of a discussion thread to be honest. :\ It's more like people are just listing the better qualities of their school rather than discussing the differences between them. So, seeing as it won't hurt, I'll shift this over to OVP.

As for mines, I went to my high school for the first two years before transferring to home school online; something I wish I could take back. My high school wasn't the best and to be honest, it didn't have anything that makes it compare to most. It was small, it had terrible cafeteria food, and they didn't offer a wide variety of classes like other high schools do. The only thing that mattered to be though was that I had my two best friends there and I'd take them and a low class high school over one that stands at higher standards.

So, did my high school have the best of things making it better than others? Probably not, but it did have my friends, who I care for a lot and still do. It also had some of the best teachers there, in that they worked at a personal level with the students, took things into perspective, and really made me enjoy school - which usually most students just want to get out of school; for me it was the opposite.

My high school also took me down the path that I wanted to go towards and allowed me to figure out the right career choice for me. That, along with teaching me how to grow as a young adult and prospective student. I regret having to move and revert to home schooling, but it's two years I wouldn't forget in the best school I've been to thus far.

alisaie October 1st, 2010 5:20 PM

Let's see... My High School...

Bad Points
- Fail!Football School.
- One little accident happened like... nine years ago, and it gets a permanent bad name for it.
- It's full of idiots

Good Points
- MCCA Program (It's an arts program, for all you guys to know)
- Dual-Enrollment Program
- The other Sports teams were pretty good.
- Superior Marching Band, and an Excellent Symphonic Band
- Awesome people to balance the idiots
- Only 'B' (or was it 'A'... XD) School in the county.
- Good Graduation Rate

There are more bad points in my school, but it's pretty much the bad points for every school, like the school lunches not being the greatest in the world, and all that jazz.

Eucliffe October 1st, 2010 5:37 PM

We've had four different strange people take refuge on our grounds. Earliest person I know was a streaker, second person was someone who brought three girls from elsewhere onto the field and proceeded to assault them in you-know-what way, third person crashed their car into a fence and ran onto our grounds where they were tackled by the cops, and the fourth person came in a gown with stuff attached from the hospital right by us :D

Oh, and we're required to join clubs, but our classes are shortened so we fit them in before the end of the school day. And now we get food from a restaurant every other Friday if we want it. And it actually has a program helps girls with learning differences, unlike most schools, which don't really give a crap if you have dyslexia or ADHD or something like that.

Katie_Q October 1st, 2010 5:48 PM

My school has a few good teachers. It spends WAY to much time focusing on sport.
But there are small classes, usually between 15-20. My school goes from prep to year 10 (don't ask me why they didn't add 11 and 12). In the highschool, (year 8-10 for us) theres is about approx. 100 kids. I like it because it means I can easily ask a teacher for help and get some good one on one teaching. And I can hang out with just about any group when my own group is playing sport. Like I said, way to much sport. They tend to make a lot of sport comps, and most people in my group are sporty. So I hang with other people a lot.
It's really not a great school though and they seem to focus a lot more on sport and uniforms then they do on learning. I tried homeschooling, but I missed the social side of school and I was way to relaxed at home.

My school is only good in comparison to a REALLY bad school. We have about 700 or so. Our lunch food is terrible, if it IS food...D: Our football team sucks, the teachers are mediocre, we have gang members/drug dealers in our school, and I think some of the staff members are a little racist. ehh but it could be worse, or at least thats what the principal says...>_>

My SCHOOL is better because it's

#1. A alternative school
#2. The student voice counts
#3. The teachers are uber nice
#4. IT'S FREAKING AWESOME

sabapple October 2nd, 2010 6:46 AM

Hey Guys~ I declare that my high school is better than all of yours~

-We have a half-day program and full day program. (Half day kids go back to their home schools around mid-day)

-We specialize in mathematics and science, here's some pretty neat classes that our school offers:
AP Electricity and Magnetism, Nuclear Physics, Thermodynamics and Fluid Flow, AP Classical Mechanics, Molecular Biology, Evolutionary Biology, Linear Algebra, Multi-variable Calculus, River Ecology, Astronomy, Meteorology, Geology of National Parks, and Robotics.

-We go to school from 7:30 to 4. Oh yes.

-We offer breakfast. What could possibly be better than that?

-We have an arts program, so we get to take two art courses (from actual experienced arts people from the arts school near us) for 1 1/2 hours a day, pass or fail.

-We get a speaker to come in every month to talk to us about what we are studying and future career areas

-We have a small student body

-Our teachers actually know what the heck they're teaching and have experience in their field

-We get school laptops and a set of textbooks for home

-We actually have a program set up so in one of our labs, we can have a live video chat with people who actually work at NASA and stuff. You know one of those NASA missions sent out last spring? Our students were some of the first people to see the photos. Cool, right?

-We only offer honor classes

-No Detentions

-We're just awesome.

Some Downs for My School:
-No Library
-No Cafeteria
-... This year is our first year of juniors... So we've never actually had a graduating class yet... ^^;
-No school colors, mascot, or clubs (besides the Robotics Club)

Yeah, I think my school is better. XP Try to beat that.

Saltare. October 2nd, 2010 8:30 AM

My high school isn't very interesting. But let's see...
  • A girl got tased
  • Senior Skip Day
  • Senior Prank Week
  • Spirit week is always awesome
Yeah...mine isn't very interesting at all...

Ho-Oh October 2nd, 2010 8:39 AM

Kaaay... let's see. This is about my Uni, btw.

Um. For me, our lecturers and tutors are actually people who are currently in, or have been in the media, so we're getting exposure to people who were in the media, rather than people who have studied books, etc about the media. The same goes for the other courses, too, we have industry professionals who know just about everything. Everyone there is really nice, too. All the students are willing to talk to you, like when you want to interview them, no matter what they're taking.

We've got wifi everywhere, a radio station there, gym, ATM, three level library, many computer labs we can access in nearly every building, elevators in some buildings... Tutorial sizes are max 20. In lectures, Youtube videos are played, we're asked to do strange things such as dance, lol, aaand... oh yeah, we can access all our assignments, lecture notes, everything online. They're having revamped housing next year, so that maaany more people can live at campus. There's also BBQ's there every Wednesday - and other days, too! There's also like 4 cafe's at the uni, or something. Oh and a vending machine in every building and water refills everywhere. There's also this little park there, too. The carpark is way large, too.

Aaaand as for the education in general, we learn a lot. I've actually discovered a lot I didn't really know about from just going to each unit, so yeah. Plus our lecturers / tutor's are laid back. We can hand in assignments in any format just as long as it is the due date - and last semester there was this unit where you could hand in an assignment weeks overdue, because we actually got to call people up and interview them, which took a while to get people. The tutorials are lots of fun too -- OH AND. The second/third year students are nice to the lower ones. And they have movies you can get out there and the book shop even has birthday, fathers/mothers day cards, etc. It has pretty much everything. There's a lot more but I can't think of it atm!

And I only go to uni 3 days a week for 12 hours in total. :D

My university is better than all of yours.
