Do you know what the most famous one is?

Of all the animation studios, I'm pretty sure Bones is the most popular right now, and Gainax is probably the most famous.

Bones: RahXephon, Angelic Layer, Wolf's Rain, Scrapped Princess, Fullmetal Alchemist + Brotherhood, Eureka 7, Ouran High School, Darker Than Black, Soul Eater, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, Heroman, Star Driver

Gainax: Nadia, Evangelion, Mahoromatic, FLCL, Abenobashi, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Melody of Oblivion, He is my Master, Gunbuster, Diebuster, Hanamaru Kindergarten, Panty & Stocking + Garterbelt

Oops, I forgot. This is for anime series. Anime movies goes for Studio Ghibli for obvious reasons.

I've never heard of Bones before o.o

Anyways just watched 7 episodes of Myself;Yourself and I enjoyed them :D

Studio Bones has 3 basic criteria:

1. CGi
2. Good animation when they want to flaunt their budget
3. HORRIBLE animation at the cost of #2

My favourite animation studio will always be Studio Ghibli, because...

They're Studio Ghibli. :<

Computer Generated Imagery.

You know, 3D animation. o3o

AND THAT'S GIBBY.

HE'S ONE BIG, 'I'M FAT SO I'M GONNA TAKE MY SHIRT OFF TO SHOW YOU ALL HOW FAT I AM' JOKE.

STUDIO GHIBLI IS THE CREATOR OF SOME OF MY FAVOURITE ANIMU OF ALL TIME. D:<

CgI = Computer-generated imagery <too slow>

I like Studio Ghibli too. Spirited Away, Castle In The Sky and Grave Of The Fireflies FTW.

Calm down there pixy XD
I haven't heard of them before so I can't say I hate or like them yet.

Weird.

Most people watched Spirited Away at the very least.

The second most popular would be That Piece of Crap with Cristian Bale Howl's Moving Caslte.

Third would be Princess Mononoke or My Neighbour Totoro.

Spirited away creeped me out so I didn't watch it.

Surigamaru October 10th, 2010 5:18 AM

CGI, like the above said, include 3D graphics, but not only that, also special effects, color, image manipulations, and the like.

Spirited Away was the best anime movie I watched, though I wish I watched it when I was kid, but oh well. Princess Mononoke is my second favorite.

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ October 10th, 2010 5:19 AM

I've seen some of the Miyazaki films. I saw a few of them on Cartoon Network, I think it was about four years ago or so.

Charizard★ October 10th, 2010 5:19 AM

My favorite anime movie would be 5 Centimeters per Second.

Weeaboo Name October 10th, 2010 5:20 AM

Are Hayate the Combat Butler!, Special A or Zero no Tsukaima any good? I have all 3 sitting on my HD but haven't got around to starting them.

5 Centimeters Per Second, Bleach - Memories of Nobody and Grave of the Fireflies are my highest scoring movies, even if the first one is actually a 3 part series.

Zero no Tsukaima is win. And its 2 sequels XD

Surigamaru October 10th, 2010 5:25 AM

Hayate is an anime you can watch if you have absolutely nothing to do. It is basically an indirect-harem with a little bit of romance, and it has your typical tsundere-like character. I dropped it because it had too much fillers, which as you know, may spoil the little plot it had.

Special A had the worst art. I couldn't go on with it, so I stopped. People say you would get used to the art, but I didn't; it was just too horrible.

Zero no Tsukaima, is also a harem-ish anime, with a fantasy, magic setting. Personally, I like it, a lot, and it managed to keep me entertained all throughout the three seasons. Also had a tsundere-like female in it.

Jordan October 10th, 2010 5:40 AM

All the Ghibli movies are at least good, and at best masterpieces. I'm surprised Madhouse Studios haven't been mentioned yet, though. They tend to have no signature style and have created a vast number of innovative anime like Monster and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Oh, and Cardcaptor Sakura anyone?

I thought Hayate's main point was being a comedy? Shows like those can sacrifice a bit of plot if its best aspect is simply to make people laugh. Louise, I think, isn't just tsundere-like: she is pretty much walking tsundere service.

Weeaboo Name October 10th, 2010 5:48 AM

In Zero no Tsukaima is the Tsundere Louise Françoise Le Blanc? SHe's voiced by my favourite voice actress. She plays the Tsundere in both Toradora! and the Shana series.

I didn't know that o.o

I need to start watching Toradora! again.

I'm not that familiar with voice actors :C

jigglyppuff8 October 10th, 2010 6:13 AM

Toradora! was one of my first anime (the first I actually downloaded IIRC), so a couple of things went over my head the first time. Rewatching it for good ol' nostalgia or something like that.

Yes, it's mostly a parody, so it's meant for comedy. I admit it was funny, but pure comedy does not interest me; a simple, nice [side] plot would do just fine, hence why I dropped it. Purely subjective, by the way.

I watched Toradora! last summer I think. It is one of the best anime I watched. Tiaga is the first tsundere I ever saw.

Anybody liked Lovely Complex?

Charizard★ October 10th, 2010 6:30 AM

Never seen it, but it has been recommended to me.

I just don't recommend things.

I have horrible taste.

I LIKE ONE PIECE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.

Weeaboo Name October 10th, 2010 6:42 AM

Lovely Complex was ok i guess. The main guy annoyed me a hell of a lot though.

Just watched the first 2 episodes of Zero No, it's very entertaining actually. I can see a lot of similarities between it and Shana.

Oh. Does it have good art? Plot? Genre? :o

kohei October 10th, 2010 9:03 AM

Some thoughts on anime of this season:

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt - My kind of anime. I just found the mindkilling 30 minutes so enjoyable.

Ikamusume - Ika-chan is cute. That's it really.
Hate the original manga, so at least the anime is going somewhere.

Fortune Arterial - I really don't like anime when the protagonist and I share the same name. It's awkward.
And this was pretty much 30 mins of pure awkward and "oh god please stop calling my name."
So no, only episode 1 for me.

SoreMachi - I like the original manga, so didn't have much expectations for the anime.
I expected right, the anime seems to be going too fast, and the unique atmosphere the manga has just doesn't translate to anime.
Probably going to be typical Shaft animu.

Milky Holmes - Oh please god no. Fast paced to the point it made no sense, and not funny too. Nor cute.
Why the heck this Bushiroad give the go-sign to this....?

Star Driver - Missed episode 1 today, apparently is good, so will need to catch up.

The art is very good, to me that is. It's not THE best, but it didn't bother me at all. It's a romantic, slice of life anime, though the romance in it is somehow unclear sometimes.
Read the plot here if you like.

And kohei, I agree with you on Panty & Stocking.

You really live in Japan right? If so, your lucky.

I'm interested in Fortune Arterial.
And you mean you missed it when it was on TV?

Chadie October 10th, 2010 10:51 AM

The new thread looks great :D I am Chad -, if anyone remembers -_-

Okay, so I haven't been watching much anime lately, but hopefully I will get back to it, now that the new Fall anime have been released. From what I read here and from the reviews on MyAnimeList, this season is either great or disappointing :O So, what can you guys recommend me from this year's new collection?

jigglyppuff8 October 10th, 2010 10:56 AM

Everything sucks. Go watch X anime from before 2008.

Chadie October 10th, 2010 11:02 AM

Not even Psychic Detective Yakumo? >:-( I have been dying to watch this, since I read the manga before. I don't want to download anything that will suck later on; I have a terrible bandwidth and my ISP sucks, badly.

But, my friend bought me Clannad and True Tears. Hopefully these will entertain me for the time being.

Weeaboo Name October 10th, 2010 11:04 AM

Welcome back Chad. I'll give a quick round-up of my favourite anime so far this season.

Shinrei Tantei Yakumo - Loved the manga, the series also started with a real bang. My tip to be anime of the season.

MM! - From 2 episodes it seems it's going to be a very strong comedy. Not too clichéd.

Bakuman - From the creators of Death Note, a slice of life anime about a pair that team up to create a manga. It seems well written and nice to watch.

Yosuga no Sora - Twincest/harem/romance and pretty artwork.

The sequels i've started watching are for To Love-Ru! and Sora no Otoshimono.

Basically a good start to the season.

----

Fortune Arterial ep 1 was ok Char, it seemed to be a little more serious than R+V but still ok.

Chadie October 10th, 2010 11:09 AM

Too..many..O_O (not really), but thank you for that Lapras (you have something else I can call you? xD)

From your descriptions, Bakuman sounds the most interesting. I just might give it a go. I believe I read the manga. I am watching previews of some; not much appealing.

And To Love-Ru's sequel is already airing? :O Nice.

Weeaboo Name October 10th, 2010 11:13 AM

Feel free to call me Keiran if that's easier, that goes to everyone in here if you want.

It is a lot, i have way too much free time :/ :L

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ October 10th, 2010 11:14 AM

Okay, what's the traditional high school romance anime this season? I'm having trouble picking it out from the vague summary descriptions I've seen elsewhere, lol

Weeaboo Name October 10th, 2010 11:23 AM

A couple would fit that description. Yosuga no Sora would possibly be the best fit.

jigglyppuff8 October 10th, 2010 11:27 AM

But that'll probably end up with Twincest end anyway. MM! or Fortune Arterial maybe? There's still Amagami SS from last season too.

Hmmmm, there are a few I'll throw out there that fit your normal criteria (romance, no special powers)
Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Not really romance, but it has a lot of Otaku vs. Society things going, AND its not just people standing around talking about their day [coughluckystarcough]
Yosuga no Sora - OP by eufonius, its a harem-ish anime, based off an eroge, though it has incest and takes advantage of the no-censors on the station its airing on. I'm expecting something out of it.
Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai (The world god only knows) - This is probably the closest you can get to High School Romance this season. It has a small supernatural element to it, but that's really only to move the plot. Basic plot: Protagonist is an expert in eroge. One day he receives a request to "catch" girls. Guy has to go through romance sequences with each of the girls in order to collect loose souls inside girls' hearts. The easiest way to do such is to have the girl fall in love with you. Despite how it sounds, the first episode's story was surprisingly feelgood from what I had thought it would be. Music is also really fitting for the scenes. Take a try at it.

Charizard★ October 10th, 2010 11:38 AM

Don't remind me of Lucky Star, that show was pretty annoying and stupid :/

digi-kun October 10th, 2010 11:40 AM

bah, Nodoka beat Shana....

Nyeh, I mention it because first thing people thing when they hear "Otaku Girl" and "Slice of Life" is Lucky Star

Chadie October 10th, 2010 11:41 AM

LS? I thought I liked it during the first couple of episodes, then it started getting a little stupid to me. I did manage to finish it, but it certainly wasn't what I call a great anime. The last couple of episodes where good, though. MY OPINION

Yes, I've seen it. It strays a bit away from the romance track in later episodes, but it's still a good series nonetheless.

Don't drop it regardless of any similarities it may have to School Days. It doesn't end in that manner, thank goodness.

What would you rate? Have you seen True Tears or 5cmps? How would you compare them to it?

Weeaboo Name October 10th, 2010 11:46 AM

Myself;Yourself was pretty good for the most part. I do think that the concept was better than the execution of the show unfortunately. I rated it 7/10.

And as you're asking about 5CMPS and True tears, well i rate both of these ahead of it by a fair bit actually. They're quite different so it's hard to make a direct comparison though.

Is it really that bad?

Chadie October 10th, 2010 11:49 AM

Rating? Mm..roughly 7/10. I am just starting to watch True Tears and it's going great so far. That male lead annoys me a little. And 5 centimeters per second was probably the best romance anime [movie] I watched up till now; it actually made me cry in some scenes.

TT and 5cps focus more on the romantic 'ongoings' of the characters and you can tell more feeling were put into them. M;Y had a nice plot, brought up some past memories, but kind of failed in the romance aspect. AGAIN MY OPINION

School Days was..weird?

School Days is;

Typical romance followed by a guy turning into a jerk and then a hellawtf ending and a nice boat.

I didn't hate it but i think it is one of the very few anime where you struggle to like any of the characters.

Nice boat started up with the delay of the last School Days episode during airing due to a recent incident where a girl killed her father with an axe. In place of the episode was scenery images and of that, a very nice boat. I think how it happened was that 2ch started raging, transferred rage to 4chan via pictures from the "episode", where someone mentioned "nice boat". That was forwarded back to 2ch, and the meme exploded.
Incidentally, Higurashi that week was also cancelled

I'm re-reading R+V atm. I really like it, the anime was good but they definitely missed out some of the better chapters. The ghoul Tsukune parts are awesome. ^^

Just watched another ep of Bakuman. Only 2 episodes in but i'm really thinking this could be a bit special. Akito Takagi is fast becoming one of my favourite anime characters.

You should keep that in spoilers o.o
I can't wait for the new chapter to come out :D

What a nice afternoon of fresh anime episodes.
I watched Bakuman episode 2, I can really see this anime starting to take shape, They haven't even wrote a page of manga yet, but I'm really enjoying it and anticipating more episodes.

Episode 2 of MM was brilliant, so ironic that the girl who made our protagonist a masochist has androphobia, from the preview of the next episode, I'm glad to see that the anime doesn't just revolve around the comedy.

My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute, is surprisingly rather enjoyable, I still have no idea how the story will progress or how any of the characters will develop, but the second episode was acceptable, I liked the goth girl. :3

Soredemo Machi Wa Mawatteiru's first episode was comedy genius. I really didn't expect it to be as good as it was. It definitely has some nice things going for it, I lost count of the times that Toshiko made me laugh. o:

Still have more episodes to watch, and I plan on continuing to watch School Rumble and maybe even start a re-watch of Kaichou wa maid sama tonight.

Ahhh Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru looks like something i'd like as well. My head is going to explode if i watch much more though. Perhaps i'll watch when it's finished.

Seems like MM! is getting popular I'll put it on my "to watch" list :P

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ October 10th, 2010 3:42 PM

The summary description of MM! has already turned me off. But never fear, I might have found my anime for this fall season:

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes.

Detectives? Check. Magical girls? Check. Cuteness factor of 11? Check.

Am I the only one who looks to the past for good stuff? ;_;

jigglyppuff8 October 10th, 2010 4:40 PM

I've planning to watch Cromartie High School one of these days. If that matters. :x

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ October 10th, 2010 4:42 PM

I'm currently watching Magical Stage Fancy Lala from 1998 if that counts as the past :P

Jordan October 10th, 2010 4:59 PM

The Gundam stuff I'm watching is mostly from the 80's and 90's. I'm watching/planning to watch Cowboy Bebop and Legend of the Galactic Heroes, both are fairly well-known on MAL, but they still are from the past. Not the mention I'm going to watch several old Ghibli films in the future as well.

Not really. LotGH has somewhat over 9,000 members while others series have numbers in the tens of thousands. A hundred thousand even. It's just that those 3,000 some people that rated it rated it quite high. :x

Just a question does everything you watch have to have Magical in it? Like Magical Girls? :O lol

I just started watching Chobits. It's a pretty messed up idea but it's very funny.

As for most of the anime mentioned n the last few posts....Yeah my knowledge goes back to about 2006 :L

I always thought Chobit was good but never watched it. Is it any good?

It's made a good start i guess. It's pretty much the typical magical girl anime atm...well kinda.

>Guy moves to city.
>Encounters pretty, non human girl.
>She moves into his apartment.
>She has no sense of embarrassment = Nosebleeds.

I'm guessing the next step will be him falling in love with his robot girl lol.

So it's pretty good, some of the comedy has been written well. Shame the art isn't very good though.

Wait, who are you talking about? O.o

I mainly like Key's art due to depth. I'll admit the eyes are a little too shiny for my liking. lol.

Hmmm by not good art i'm just used to up to the minute art. I didn't realise the show aired in 2002.

And I have a question:
I was reading a thing about an anime about a boy who plays video games that capture girls, then someone comes along and tells him to catch a mystical girl (or something like that). I remember reading it on MAL but I can't think of the title.

jigglyppuff8 October 10th, 2010 5:50 PM
