Sitting here, in the dark, leaning in to get a better look... at that picture.

Goodness, man, are you TRYING to cast suspicion on me?

(Though they would never admit it, I think half of my immediate family thinks that All Anime is Naughty Tentacles)

donavannj January 12th, 2011 10:19 PM

For HQ anime, YouTube is the last place I'd look, because there's barely any there, and what is there is usually not going to be there very long if it gets a high view count.

A Pixy January 13th, 2011 5:38 AM

My computer sucks, therefore, I do not torrent.

You could always get it on DVD if you want it in the best quality. :U

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ January 13th, 2011 7:25 AM

If a series is released on DVD in my region, that's typically my first choice because it's official and I don't have to put up with my POS computer to watch it. Problem is, the shows I'm really into don't sell well stateside; heck, my mind was blown when Kimikiss Pure Rouge was licensed...

donavannj January 13th, 2011 7:48 AM

Who needs torrenting? Not me.

I buy when I can afford to and the series is a sure thing or appears impressive from the descriptions on the back of the box, as well as the art itself. I also have to have heard about it favorably if it's a series I'm picking up but haven't watched before.

Shanghai Alice January 13th, 2011 9:31 PM

Hear about series/See it in a store -> Research -> "MOAR RESEARCH" -> If it's good, buy the manga/OVA/series. If it sucks, screw it.

jigglyppuff8 January 13th, 2011 9:47 PM

But torrenting or even downloading anime is illegal! Would you torrent or download Pokemon games? Didn't think so. (But seriously, I'm seriously unsure of PC's stance on the discussion of piracy. Another forum I go to has a ZERO TOLERANCE policy on even hinting towards piracy, so IDK).

Blah. It's been a week into the new season and literally the only new show I've seen is Rio: Rainbow Gate! - 01. orz

Weeaboo Name January 14th, 2011 1:12 AM

It's a week into the season and I think I've only not tried about 3. I'm sure i never used to be this easy to please but i've pretty much enjoyed everything so far, even the utterly pointless Rainbow Gate. I guess i'll give everything 2 or 3 episodes before i decide to drop or hold them.

Even though i've enjoyed them all there are only a few that i feel could end up getting high scores from me. Gosick, Madoka★Magica, Hourou Musuko and Zombie Desu ka?. Due to reading the manga I don't think the second season of Kimi ni Todoke will be as good as the first.

Edit - Actually.... *Puts Beelzebub, Freezing, IS: Infinite Stratos, Rio: Rainbow Gate! and Yumekui Merry all on hold, still 13 airing anime to keep up with but it's a bit more manageable and less annoying if I skip a couple of days.

digi-kun January 14th, 2011 8:47 AM

The key is really to find which shows fit your schedule. For example, if you have a really bad...Thursday, for example, it may be best to avoid Madoka Magica, IS, and Yumekui unless you trust yourself to avoid watching them until the weekend.

Also, GARNiDELiA's album is amazing. Great stuff from tokuP+MARiA.

Weeaboo Name January 14th, 2011 9:16 AM

Working pretty much random shifts and having a messed up sleep pattern means I don't really do schedules, just being awake and feeling like it is enough for me.

Don't really know a lot about that, Is it Vocaloid related or I completely off?

I started Code Geass, I avoided it a lot in the past because of the mecha aspect but i think i'm going to be very glad i decided to look past that. I can see why both Lelouch and C.C. have so many admirers.

Hiche.. January 14th, 2011 10:08 AM

I managed to control my anime watching scheduling, after an overdose of fixing my eyes on my computer screen. Despite that, I am slowly watching some of my on-hold anime and got into some of the new Winter anime, which I found rather controversial. Clearly, the only two anime that I found intriguing enough to follow were Beelzebub and Kore wa Zombie desu ka.

To pull off a brief review of some of the good and disappointing anime I faced.

Freezing - believe it or not, this was one of the much anticipated anime for me to watch this Winter. I knew that the storyline seemed kind of generic and had an uninteresting setting, but the action looked fierce. The first episode wasn't that bad, but it had a plethora of I-have-seen-that-already scenes in it. Hopefully, the second episode can pull it back.

IS - I..don't know about this one. It really perplexed me when watching the two aired episodes. I like it, yet it bores me? Is this possible?

Dragon Crisis - the synopsis, the preview, and the character graphics were very misleading. I thought it would be stupid and boring, but from the first episode, it was rather good. I hope episode two doesn't disappoint me.

Beelzebub - very good. Not the best, but quite enjoyable. The comedy in it can be repetitive and the naked baby is annoying to look at, but it has many positive aspects that overflow its problems: the characters, the funny art, the voice acting...

Kore wa Zombie desu - This one I enjoyed a lot, but I really cannot judge it only from the first episode. Not a lot happened, so hopefully the next episode can give me a better idea on this anime.

tl;dr, this Winter's new collection of anime was mediocre.

Jack O'Neill January 14th, 2011 1:44 PM

Personally, I prefer the "wait and see" approach when it comes to new anime. Just wait for the entire season to finish, assess public opinion, pick out a few shows that you think are genuinely good or just interesting, and watch those. Only problem is, there just haven't that many good and/or interesting shows out there for the past few years.

Also, I could never understand why people are compelled to watch every single series at the start of every new season, knowing that they'll just wind up dropping the vast majority of them anyway. They're just wasting their time.

jigglyppuff8 January 14th, 2011 6:26 PM

Because most people aren't as averse to change as you seem to be, Jack O'Neill. Go ahead and say that most shows are uncreative, uninteresting, or whatever. Not everything can be a Haruhi, Code Geass, or Cowboy Bebop. Give a new show a chance when it's airing. You might actually have some fun reading up on the recent discussions, shipping wars, and speculah, before the anime fades from memory only to be replaced with the next flavor of the month.

But why am I even typing. You're just going to keep watching the old stuff and act like your taste is superior to everyone else's because of it. :V

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ January 14th, 2011 6:37 PM

Unless a show's previews and descriptions sound very promising, I'll usually wait before picking it up. It's the reason why I watch older series that are "new to me". Current example is Canvas 2, though I am trying to keep up with Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica as it's being released.

In short, I do a little of both.

donavannj January 14th, 2011 6:37 PM

Also, to add to what Kevin said, your method wouldn't work if everyone had the same idea about how to go about watching these series as you. There'd be no one watching the stuff and giving their opinions on it so you can continue your ways of using their opinions to filter through the crap.

*Facepalm*
Deja vuuuuuuuuuuuuu~

Anyways.

Goodness gracious, all you people with your rapid-fire animu watching...

Do you all read five novels at a time? Or skim through long series, just to get them done? Do you set up three screens, so as to save time by watching three movies? Do you eat three meals at once, constantly switching back and forth?

Madness! Madness, I say!

*Watches one series at a time, so as to better love the characters and appreciate the plot*

You know, being a... Yes, I'm about to drop the dreaded C Word...

CASUAL anime fan, I can't help but feel a mixture of awe and shock at you people. I mean...

HOW MUCH FREE TIME DO YOU PEOPLE HAVE? 0_0

*Has free time, but plays Oblivion and lurks on forums for most of it*

jigglyppuff8 January 14th, 2011 8:50 PM

People using "there is nothing as interesting as *so and so anime*" as an excuse REALLY BOILS my blood apparently. If you don't have the time or even if you just don't want to watch new stuff because you don't feel like, I'm fine with it. As long as you're enjoying it, whatever floats your boat. But the ship sinks when someone tries to justify not watching more recent anime by comparing it to anime from the past and claiming that it's "not as good". If you don't want to watch it, don't watch it. Don't step on the people who do watch it as if they have an inferior taste because you only watch quote/unquote "good" shows.

Also, I don't play vidya that much, so lots of free time. Seriously. Video games are TIME CONSUMING. Like VNs. Speaking of which, I'm going to go play one that was recently translated.

Shanghai Alice January 14th, 2011 9:21 PM

Ahh, and Oblivion is one of the most time-consuming games in existence.

Mainly because robbing an Imperial Vault takes as much planning as robbing a real bank.

No lie. You have to case the joint, find out guard schedules, escape routes, personnel, etc.

It's insane.

I remember, in Morrowind, there were four such vaults, each requiring a ridiculous amount of planning, supplies, and magic.

*Sigh*

THAT'S why I don't have enough time to watch anime.

And my problem isn't so much "ALL ANIME SUCKS NAO!", it's "I'm picky, I know I'm picky, and I just can't see anything that's come out recently that I like."

That, and the forums I visit are typically 1/2-3 years behind anime news.

So, yeah~

And it's not just anime. I'm the same way with books and movies. If something doesn't catch my interest, it just doesn't catch my interest.

DOUBLE EDIT ALL THE WAY ACROOOOOOSS THE BOOOOOAAAAARD: Oh, and I was about to start on Vanishment, thinking that, though it was a two-hour movie, I wouldn't mind grinding through my Friday Fatigue to watch it.

It's a three-hour movie. Screw that! D: I'll watch it later. I now have it on my compy, which practically guarantees a watch.

donavannj January 14th, 2011 9:28 PM

I don't know where I find the time to watch, other than universal procrastination and constant multi tasking.

i especially liked ORiON

Weeaboo Name January 14th, 2011 11:32 PM

I'm should be more picky with the anime and stuff i watch but meh, you like whaty you like right.

Anyway, i've just stumbled across a TTGL manga which parodies the romantic/school genre. I have to say ******* lol.

yet more proof that i'm easy to please.

Shanghai Alice January 14th, 2011 11:41 PM

Half an episode.

That's all it took for everything I know about Angel Beats! to be flipped inside out.

Spoiler:
So, I always knew Kanade was a sympathetic character, but... Goodness, I have to agree with Otonashi. She needs a really big hug. D:

Also, the SSS have gone from Totally Awesome Rebels to Cheap-Ass Thugs That Pick On an Innocent Girl Who Just Wants to be Student Council President. Also, episode 5 needs moar TK and Yui. Just sayin'.

So, yeah. Now Kanade has finally been revealed to be both human and named Kanade, so those spoiled facts are now Unspoiled. And... T_T I feel bad for her. I really do. Her life just so divinely (*Rimshot*) sucks, and all she does is take it.

Dammit, Yuri...

Well, to be honest, Yuri couldn't have known, and did hold some level of respect for the fact that Angel never went after them when they weren't breaking rules. So, I think that's why they never actively hunted Angel herself. Fair play.

Meh. To me, this is the one thing that separates Yuri and Haruhi. Haruhi would've been like, "Screw it, who cares?" In addition to the fact that she leads by coercion, of course.

Yuri, who actually has willing subordinates, a good motivation to fight, and some sense of compassion, decides to back off when she realizes that she might not be in the right after all.

And... yeah. That was an awesome episode. I love Kanade all the more now~

kohei January 15th, 2011 8:26 AM

Madoka Magica episode 2 had the best anime-musket shooting scene.
Really.

Weeaboo Name January 15th, 2011 8:32 AM

I can't say i've seen many to compare it to but yes that scene was pretty good. Shinbou's style suits Magical girl more than you'd expect....I think i was saying that about slice of life about a week or two ago ^_^

Oh, man, I don't have time to watch the ep today but I'll definitely be looking forward to that scene when I do watch it xD
