Male or Female [ #1 ]

http://i51.*.com/2hgblo3.png Male or Female Protoganist? http://i55.*.com/2ex0xdy.png

Out of the Male and Female protoganist, which one will you be picking? Or if you decide to pick based on designs, which do you prefer?

Please vote your choice (Male or Female).

If you have any ideas for future polls, please PM Kaori or Forever.

Mew~ October 3rd, 2010 8:29 AM

Urm, lol isn't a bit simple, if your male you will probably be picking the male protoganist and if your female you'll pick the female protoganist... thats the reason they added the female protoganist in Crystal, so females could be females!

Although you can completelly ignore my post if your just picking which gender you want to be by design, or the change to have boobs

Btw, I chose the male, cuz im male xD

Guy October 3rd, 2010 8:41 AM

I'll be playing as a male, for reasons being that I am a male. However, my vote wouldn't go to the male protagonist. When it comes to the poll, it refers to who I prefer, and I honestly prefer the female in that her design is more memorable. The male stands to be more generic which got boring after Lucas in DPPt.

Cherrim October 3rd, 2010 8:42 AM

Chose the female this time because I actually really like the female's design. Aside from those weird shorts, I love everything about her.

The guy is just really generic. I mean, he looks fine, and there's nothing wrong with his design (though his shaggy hair kind of needs a hair cut :P) but... he doesn't stand out at all.

cyan. October 3rd, 2010 8:51 AM

I love the design for the female, but I've always wanted my rival to be a different gender then me, so I think I'm going to choose the male player this time.

Bluerang1 October 3rd, 2010 9:45 AM

^Rival? We have Bel AND Cheren if that's what you mean...

Anyway, the Female Protagonist (they should give her a name already! Is is White?) is hawt so I'll go with her. However, in the game, I'm playing as the male character, since I am male.

Touko! Her name is Touko! :D

Livewire October 3rd, 2010 9:49 AM

I picked the male because I am one, Like Hiiro, but I actually think the female protagonists' design is better than the males'.

Sydian October 3rd, 2010 9:58 AM

This generation, we were graced with the best female protagonist ever, and I'm actually playing as the girl because of it. :) I vote for her!

Binary October 3rd, 2010 9:59 AM

I'll be picking the female protagonist; one of the reasons being that the design of the female protagonist is better than that of the male. :)

Aquacorde October 3rd, 2010 10:05 AM

I will be choosing the female first. I always play my first time through as the girl, then the second time as a boy.

I also really like her design. <3

Haza October 3rd, 2010 10:08 AM

The female is the best and I may be using her in my Pokemon Black... and just pisses me off howw the first time we get a female I really like they don't but her in the anime.

I know, but I`m just not a big fan of Cheren.

Oh, right. Not a fan of him either x) But technically, he's our "rival" since he chooses the Pokemon with the type advantage over ours :) While Bel is our "friend" x) I do wonder where Touka&Touya come in into the game, besides the Battle Subway.

Kamigoroshi October 3rd, 2010 10:30 AM

I agree that Touko of B/W is the best looking protagonist a Pokemon game ever had hands down. Now, if only her clothes were less white/pink and more black then she would be even better. I also have high hopes that someone creates a mini hack to change her into a gothic lolita similar to Marley from D/P at some point. Now that would be the ultimate female protagonist for Pokemon Black!

As for the guy... I don't know. I never liked the design of any of Nintendo's male protagonists: the hideous pokeball caps and short hairstyles were always turn-off's for me. If Nintendo decides to create a male protagonist similar to the Guitarist trainer sprite then I'll consider to play as him, but that's of course not gonna happen. ( ゚,_ゝ゚)

Kevin October 3rd, 2010 10:36 AM

Well... I'm a guy so I'm choosing the guy player. xD He looks pretty cool. Though the female does also. =P

JP October 3rd, 2010 11:31 AM

I honestly really like both designs, I'm not sure I have one I like over the other. I picked male simply because that's what I am, like many others have said.

Cataclysmic October 3rd, 2010 12:01 PM

This is definitely my favorite female character design yet, but I still like the guy a little more... Not to mention I always play as the guy anyway since I like to see the character as an extension of myself.

Surmonter October 3rd, 2010 12:39 PM

I always rotate between the two. Although, this generation and all others, I prefered to be the girl.

I always name myself Gaga as the girl. DON'T JUDGE. ^-^
I always name myself Steve as the guy.

So that's their Japanese names...and I was wondering what they were...I have just been calling them Black and white until I found out their real names...
I like the Female's design the best, the male looks like all the others...I think the only non Generic male was Brandon in RSE.

●•ΛΣЯӨЩ•● October 3rd, 2010 3:47 PM

I go for the male character. Not just because i'm male but also cause his design is better than the female's.

Zelda October 3rd, 2010 5:44 PM

To answer my own question, I'll be choosing the female. Not just because I'm a girl myself, but her design is outstanding and the character clothing is both simplistic and attractive.

The male is alright; the style is similar to the others, but he's still decent looking. The only thing I had a small problem with is his unoriginal clothing which I've noticed, the male protagonists always seem to have the same simple type of clothing. :( He doesn't stand out as much as the female protagonist, but is still another fine male protagonist.

PlatinumDude October 3rd, 2010 6:25 PM

Because I'm a guy, I'm going with the male protagonist. There's more to why I picked him: he reminded me of Jaded Yuki from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX when he was first revealed.

Astinus October 3rd, 2010 6:27 PM

To the question of which one I'm going to be/am playing as, that would be both. But I picked the male first because I'm currently playing Black as a more experimental run, and want to save the girl to play, for writing purposes.

As for which design I prefer, I have to say that I do like both designs. This is the first region where there wasn't something that bothered me about the trainer designs (with the exception of the first generation, because there was only Red at that point). I do like both. It's the male's design, however, that I tend to lean towards just because he keeps popping into my mind. And he fits Mijumaru's color scheme. So while I do like both characters, I think that I do prefer the male, since I chose to play as him first and because he's the one that I remember more than the girl's.

Fushigidane-Chan October 3rd, 2010 6:30 PM

I prefer the guy. He reminds me of Red, and his design looks pretty cool, even if he's somewhat generic. He's one of my favorite protagonists.

The girl is fine, but I'm not really a fan of those short shorts and her hair. I like her more than Dawn and Lyra though, at least.

Thorns October 3rd, 2010 6:34 PM

Male because the female looks like she got pulled out of a 80's movie about bad fashion. XD

Ho-Oh October 3rd, 2010 6:56 PM

Going with the female, however, I dislike the OWs for both. Plus, I have no reason to choose the male (unlike in R/S,where the character was more appealing), so yeah, female. Plus if I was male I'd probably choose the female too... because she just looks better.

However I do like the actual art of the female.

The Red Chain October 3rd, 2010 6:56 PM

At first I preferred the male protagonist, but the female is beginning to grow more and more on me. <3
I love her poofy insanely awesome hair, and her oddly cute fashion sense, so nyeh. >P

Master Terrador October 3rd, 2010 7:31 PM

I choose the male since I hated the design for Diamond and gold's new artwork was a "meh" feeling for me. This male protagonist actually looks cool and his sprite is one of the best in my opinion (His trainer sprite not OW). So I'll toss mine in now.

No, I actually know a lot of people who dont go on their own gender but on their designs.

otakulily October 3rd, 2010 8:05 PM

I actually think the male design is better than the female's. :x I would certainly say that B/W has the best male protagonist by far. All of the previous ones were awful, in my opinion, with the possible exception of Ethan. Anyway, if this is a question of which protagonist I will play as, I will still choose the female, for one reason: ToukoxNforeverrrrr nvm. I still don't like her as much as Dawn, though.

King Gumball October 3rd, 2010 8:33 PM

I prefer the male over the female too, although the female looks really cool too. If I get both games I will have one trainer for each game.

Esper October 3rd, 2010 10:32 PM

I like everything about the female protagonist's design more than the male protagonist's (with the exception of the VS sprite - it's just awkward looking) so I've chosen to play as her. I don't particularly think of the character as "me" in the games so gender isn't an issue and if I ever restart the game I'll choose the male character simply because I hadn't already and it would be something different.

fenyx4 October 3rd, 2010 10:49 PM

I'm playing as Black/Touya (name reminds me of Digimon's Takuya) to match my own gender. I love both of their designs, but White's/Touko's seems more original (plus she looks very hot). I disliked how Black's outfit looks very similar to Lucas' Platinum outfit (in terms of color scheme, sans shoes). But a plus is that Black's outfit looks more rugged and less "formal." The slight resemblance to Red is also cool. At first, I disliked how White's hair color matched his eye color, but I'm gradually becoming accustomed to it...

Both of their VS sprites look slightly awkward to me... And I really dislike how White's sprite has more "dark pink" on it. The original artwork had those areas (sans the boots) with coloration of what I saw to be red/scarlet; why couldn't her sprite receive the same coloration? (like the red parts of Black's sprite)

I love how their Japanese names imply "transparency and purity", though (finally revealed after all this time! :)). Hope the English names are just as awesome! (though I could definitely run with Black retaining the name Black, and White retaining the name White. But I'm planning to name myself Nero, so I won't notice much...).

I'm glad that the player's counterpart makes an appearance in the Battle Subway; I was getting a bit worried that White would be nowhere to be seen in my playthrough! :(

On a side-note, this weekly poll implementation looks like a nice idea that will hopefully tide us over until the English releases of BW!

Andrut October 4th, 2010 6:23 AM

I chose the guy. What were you excepting?
I hate the girl's shorts, and the hair look very weird.
I think he's designed the second best from all the generation, after GSC Ethan.

mineowyn October 4th, 2010 7:15 AM

Eh this is unfair because there are more males playing pPokemon than females. :/ Anyway what's the point of this poll? It's not like this is Harvest Moon.

Some males choose to play as females, though.

However, the point is just a fun poll, asking users what they're going to do in the lead up to the games. It isn't serious or anything.

austy14 October 4th, 2010 2:59 PM

Welll, I like the female and chose her. I always do on my main version of the generation. And she looks really cool, love the shorts XD. Plus the boy looks a lot like red. :o

mal'akh October 4th, 2010 4:19 PM

Imma be using the guy. He's adorable. Idc what any you guys say, I want to play as him. Plus, imo, he's the best looking guy you get to play as yet.

Same here! I am picking a boy because I like the guy's design better and I'm male. He looks pretty cool compared to some other starting guys. Also, he does remind me of Jaden Yuki!

Red1530 October 4th, 2010 6:18 PM

I will be playing as the male protagonist for an obvious reason.

o0PinkSquid0o October 4th, 2010 6:38 PM

Choose the female, mainly because I am a girl but I also think she looks pretty cool...besides those hanging pockets or whatever those things are on her shorts :S

huh really? I asked alot of my guy friends if they've played as the female protagonist before and they're like "no, I'm a guy I'm not gay or anything." Like somehow choosing the female character questions their masculinity or something. Before R/S/E, we girls had no choice but to play as a boy. I say they should bring back the "one gender no way to choose MC" except this time you're forced to be a girl... :cheeky:

splosh October 5th, 2010 1:59 AM

I'm going to play as the male, however i like both designs. If i get another version or something i'll play as the girl.

The girl is the best design in the series, because she's not damn pigeon toed, and the boy is much better that everyone since Red (who is the quintessential Pokemon trainer).

tobi-ksla October 5th, 2010 2:08 AM

I'll most likely pick the girl character. I want to use girls for a change; plus, I'm saving the guy for the third version.

I...dunno. I think it just depends on your feelings towards characters on a game (if that makes sense). I know that there are some males on PC though, who do play as girls, for favous reasons (that aren't twisted, or aren't implying what their sexuality actually is).

Yeaaaaah everyone should play as girls. :D
Especially since the girl is losing on the poll, saaaad.

インフェルノの津波 October 5th, 2010 7:40 AM

Oooh, a poll! :D

I like'em both, even their shipping. But I chose guy because his colors are awesome.

But you can't deny booty shorts!

SuperiorCat October 5th, 2010 8:53 AM

I chose the girl.
The girl for once actually looks like she's prepared for journeying in the Pokemon world. All the girls prior to her look so frail, but our B/W girl is wearing mountain boots, she's not wearing a flimsy skirt, and for once, our female protagonist isn't pigeon-toed.

The guy's design is just so repetitive. We've seen it a million times, he quite honestly looks just like Lucas, but with a different hat and a scarf. >_>;

And as for the, 'you must pick the character who is your own gender' debate, I don't think that is true at all. I always go for the character with the better design, and whenever I replay the games I like to go for gender that I didn't use previously, just because It's so bland having to look at the same overworld sprite repeatedly.

MrsNorrington October 5th, 2010 1:23 PM

I love the female! I cosplay her now

In addition to this, it all depends on on their thoughts on both, which one they prefer and which one suits them no matter male or female. It really doesn't matter since it's just a game character, so I see no reason for people to think it's too awkward to pick the female protagonist if they are a male. :(

Girls rule, boys drool. :]

I've seen people starting to dress up as the protagonists and I must say, that's cute. :) It's amazing how creative people get with the cosplay for Black and White.

twistedpuppy October 5th, 2010 6:06 PM

I'm playing the female this time around. I've played both genders on previous games before, but since HG/SS I've been unhappy with the character designs. So for B&W I'm exclusively playing the female protagonist.

A Pixy October 5th, 2010 6:54 PM

Female.

To me, the male just looks.

Generic. o3o

TheGoddessOfDiscord October 8th, 2010 10:27 PM

I think Male player character looks ten times better than female one.
I'll start with the male protagonist for the first time even though I'm a chick.

I really didn't want to initially for obvious reasons(the shorts), but I like her design better than I like the males. I can just picture myself with her as a character a lot better than I can with the male protagonist.

I just realized that the shorts are an over exaggerated look of short shorts with tears or wholes in them on purpose.

Ho-Oh October 9th, 2010 12:22 AM

Do you think that they use the shorts in that way to make it more appealing to certain genders then, Boarbeque? If the shorts were designed differently, I wonder, would have less people have chosen the female, or more?

Eliminator Jr. October 9th, 2010 1:14 AM

I'll be choosing the male character because:
  • I am a male.
  • The female design looks terrible and unnatural.

I just know that they designed most of the characters and pokemon in the game off of Americans. They studied how we dressed.

Some people may deny it, but a lot of girls wear shorts like the female player. I know that I dress almost exactly alike to the boy player, which was the reason I chose him in the first place. I have also seen girls with crazy hair like that too. I live in the northwestern parts of America, so what I think is natural may be unnatural to everyone else.

So yeah, I do think they tried to make it more appealing to females.

austin00081 October 9th, 2010 7:56 AM

I'm a guy, and I chose the girl. Her design is much more appealing to me. Whereas the male protagonist is just very basic and generic.

Charizard★ October 9th, 2010 8:31 AM

I'll be choosing the male for Black and the female for White :D

Well, similar shorts in the U.S. do tend to be prevalent in some clothing styles. And Black's/Touya's appearance does seem to be reminiscent of clothings of some boys - something fitting for an adventure.

I just love how they added nicely designed spikes on White's/Touko's shorts for good measure, though. Shorts were nice enough, but "threatening" shorts are even better. I mean, everything's better when spikes are thrown in the mix! :D

trash October 9th, 2010 3:34 PM

The female's hair is sort of weird.
On the other hand the male is the best one so far imo.
that is all.

dragon0fangz October 9th, 2010 4:05 PM

I will be male, since i'm male, but I prefer the female protagonist's design, so I chose female for the poll.

PiPVoda October 9th, 2010 5:04 PM

Male seeing as I'm male, and also because this time around I think the male protagonist looks better than the female (though she's still awesome).

TheAppleFreak October 9th, 2010 5:34 PM

For me, I'm going to choose the male character in Black when it comes stateside. Although I'm a fan of the female design, I almost always choose the male character. I might use Pokésav to edit my gender in my White ROM though to get a feeling of what it's like playing as the female character.

Dillon_68 October 9th, 2010 5:57 PM

I never debate over which character to pick, I feel like I have to get male because I'm a male and name it my real name, it just feels customary. I love to personalize my games to suit my real preferences. (ex. I like my OT to be my name "Dillon"). Besides, I think it would be wierd to play as a female, but on Voice Chat you sound like a man, though their are some females that DO sounds that way, lol.

Wow, I got off topic quick.

Wings Don't Cry October 9th, 2010 9:41 PM

I prefer the female in terms of design, but I'll be picking the male since I'm a male and because the female looks like she'll catch a cold in winter.
