The Ones That Got Away Challenge

Got any Pokemon stuck in your PC, waiting for the day they're finally given the chance to shine? Maybe you couldn't catch them before you beat the Elite Four. Maybe you had to choose a different Pokemon because they'd make completing the game easier. Maybe there were just too many awesome Pokemon to choose from, and seeing as you can only have a team of 6, some cool Pokemon that you always wanted to raise just slipped through the net...

Well, here's your chance to finally give them their turn to shine! Everyone must have a stack of Pokemon stashed away somewhere that they never got the chance to use on a team, even if you really wanted to originally. Catch them as normal, trade (at as low a level as possible, preferably as eggs) or hack them to a new game, and complete a playthrough with team members you've never used before!

To sign up, use the following form:

Name:
Game:
List of Pokemon that got away:
Number required:
Any specific requirements:
(E.g. certain types for HM purposes. Please try to avoid asking for one specific Pokemon)

This challenge is open to all Generations, and Ultimate and Monotype Challenges are also possible if you'd like. So, make your list of Pokemon you always wanted to raise but never got round to it, and let the person below you choose which ones will make up your team! HM Slaves are allowed. The Challenge is completed when you beat the E4 at their highest levels - so if there's an option to rematch the E4 at higher levels, the Challenge doesn't end until you do so. Red, if he's available, is an optional extra.

Optional Rule (thanks to Cathar for the inspiration):
Spoiler:
Now I'm a bit of a budding story-writer. I love to come up with storylines, characters and plot twists, and whenever I do any run of a Pokemon game, each of my Pokemon end up assuming some sort of personality - it's just a natural by-product of how my mind works, and how each Pokemon's performances add to their overall "feel." That's really what this Challenge is about - finding new Pokemon whose "feel" you like.

So, the optional rule. If you want a bit more challenge in your run, and you want to give each of your Pokemon a bit more personality, then come up with a few traits for each Pokemon when you first start to use them. This could be anything, positive or negative - you might decide that your Metapod is a reckless, vicious monster, or you might decide your Salamence is a gentle giant who's scared of bugs, or you might decide that your Persian doesn't like to get her claws dirty. It's really up to you - use the Pokemon's nature or your own imagination, and come up with a personality for each Pokemon.

After that, it's up to you to figure out how the Pokemon's personality will affect gameplay. Using the above three examples, you may decide that your hot-headed Metapod must always be the lead Pokemon in trainer battles, or that your scaredy-cat Salamence cannot fight against Bug-types, or that prissy Persian cannot use claw-based attacks. I want to leave this completely open to Challengers, because I think it'll be interesting to see the sort of storylines people come up with, and it'll be great to see how people view different Pokemon in different lights.

So, if you want optional rules, just wait till you're assigned a team, come up with a personality for each team member, and put your extra rules in your first team-impressions post!

Just a quick question, as I'm considering entering this so I have something to do in spare time, but we can enter this even if we've beaten the Elite Four, right? You implied it, but I just wanted to double check. Thanks in advance.

Erm... Well, I had intended it to be a playthrough challenge, so probably not, unless you mean on GSC/HGSS to raise a team to beat Red. Otherwise it's not really a challenge at all, you'd just be raising Pokemon with no real goal. The aim was to make you use Pokemon you'd never got around to using before on a team; I don't really see where the beginning or end of the "challenge" would be if you'd already beaten the E4.

tachikaze316 October 11th, 2010 4:05 PM

So, in that case...it's just a playthrough only catching our designated team members, right? If so, can I cheat for the 5 team members I can't catch pre-national dex?

Hm, I just kinda got the vibe that this team is crafted from Pokemon that are just sitting in your PC, not having to start over. I was thinking you'd raise a team to use against the E4, and it'd be harder for some games since the E4 gets stronger after you beat them a certain number of times. But that answers that then.

It's essentially a variation on the Random Pokemon Challenge, but using Pokemon you actually always wanted to raise but never did.

Could I actually replace Cloyster with something. I forgot that you cant get a water stone in gold until late in the game. Unless i would be able to hack in water stone.

To be honest, I don't really mind hacking, as this challenge is all about getting to use Pokemon you never have before; who would I be to deny you the opportunity to use a Cloyster just because you can't get a Water Stone till after the E4 in Gold.

If for whatever reason you can't get the Stone, take Xatu!

Started my challenge, first update:

-Chose the male trainer, named myself Tachi and my rival Gav.
-Chose the grass type starter...Bellsprout!
-Was attacked by a wild Starly, Bellsprout whipped it. Whipped it good.
-Erm, apparently something screwed up and Gav got himself a Turtwig...which is wierd because the Turtwig ball had my Bellsprout in it.
-Headed to Rowan's lab, nicknamed Bellsprout Devo and got my pokedex.
-Beat some trainers on Route 202, entered Jubilife City
-Delivered Gav's Parcel, got a town map.
-Beat a couple of kids, got tm10.
-Taught Devo Hidden Power, decided to test it on a couple of wild pokemon, doesn't affect Starly, hits Shinx for neutral damage = Ghost, I believe
-Got my Poketch, decided to grind to lv13
-Rival battle was pathetically easy, but I had a level advantage and sleep powder, so that's to be expected...
-Battled all the trainers on the way to Oreburgh City.
-Told Roark to get back to the gym.
-Proceeded to show him what Devo does when a problem comes along.

Team:
Devo/Bellsprout Lv.16
-Vine Whip
-Growth
-Sleep Powder
-Hidden Power (Ghost)

Clair was by far the hardest one to beat. Her thunderbolt dragonair destroyed my Golduck and my Shellder making it very difficult to take he down. On my second try though, Hypno pulled through
http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/4913/gotawayclair.png
I realized that there was no way that my team would get through the Elite 4, so I got every pokemon to level 50
I forgot to take a picture of Will, but it resulted in Aipom Shadow Balling his Slowbro for the win
Koga was pretty easy as Hypno was able to take everythyng down with either Fire Punch or Psychic
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/8021/gotawaykoga.png
Bruno went down basically exactly the same way
http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/1097/gotawaybruno.png
It seems that most of my wins were because of Hypno...
Anyway, Karen went down after Cloyster took down her Houndoom
http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/8320/gotawaykaren.png
And finally, Lance. Lance was by far and away the easiest Elite 4 member as Golduck simply soloed the entire thing and barely lost any HP

-Caught Mothra the Venonat
-Fought through the forest, Devo evolved
-Entered Eterna, got Hm01, taught it to Bidoof
-Headed to the gym, beat all the trainers (You're standing in a corner facing a tree...that is not hiding, honestly, do they think I'm looking down from the sky or something?)

Awesome, BUT I'd have to cheat for 2 (rather than 1) of those stones if I want to have fully evolved Pokemon, is that okay?

Ok... I'll give you Aipom, Yanma, Drifloon, Spoink, Carvanha and Eevee. I assume you'll be evolving them though! Added you to the Challengers list.

P.S. Congratulations to our first Champion, jujuju!

P.P.S. In case anyone's wondering, I will be doing this Challenge asap but I'm currently working on a HeartGold playthrough so I can catch a Misdreavus to breed and trade across to my Challenge game... One of the very few Pokemon I don't actually have yet!

560cool. October 21st, 2010 2:22 AM

Um, yes, I've talked to sammu about implementing a separate challenge in which we train our boxed Pokemon from finished games.
Basically, we put up a list of the Pokemon which we caught for Pokedex during our playthroughs and never got to train them. Now, we don't want to restart the game, we just want to train those little guys. But the sea of junk (no pun intended) is so vast we have no idea if we'll pick a Ratatta or a Sentret. See ? This is where it helps.
When sammu updates the thread, I'll post my junk list and have someone select six Pokemon. And, golly, it's a long one... (considering my count of 399 in Pokedex in HG).

I've made a thread for it, after all. I'll make a link to this challenge in case some people want to make a full playthrough with unused Pokemon. ^_^

Update #3

-Headed into the Galactic building, Miles brutalised everything (Okay, Devo helped with Skuntank, but it was only sleep powder).
-Got the bicycle and Explorer kit
-Rode down Cycling Road, got the Vs Seeker and Dowsing Machine
-Encountered Cyrus in Mt Coronet, he spouted some fauxlosophic bull**** and walked away
-Caught a bibarel-HM slave and a male Ralts (named Bridget, 5 internets to anyone who gets the reference)
-Entered Hearthome City and got attacked by a Buneary, went to the contest hall, got a tuxedo.
-Battled Gav, had completely forgotten he was here...good thing this is Pearl though or he might've been slightly dangerous. :P
-Headed to Solaceon Town, Miles and Bridget evolved.
-Went on to Veilstone city, rode straight through to Pastoria Town
-Caught Khan the Kangaskhan in the Great Marsh (Where it'd normally be available post-E4)
-Went back to Veilstone and headed to the gym
-Miles beat Meditite with 2 crunches, Devo sleep powder+hidden powered Machoke, Lucario swept most of my team leaving him it at ~30%HP and Miles at ~85%, Miles won with Aqua Jet spam

Thanks. Yeah, I wanted you to choose the game. This will be a pretty good team. I'm gonna have to trade/hack in a couple eggs - Skarmory and Chinchou can't be obtained until after the Elite Four, I will hack in a Claw fossil after I get the Underground Kit in Eterna City and revive it in Oreburgh, and I will catch Vulpix in-game by hacking it in where it can be found with a Dongle. Skorupi will be caught normally I guess. And Bidoof/Bibarel for the HM slave of course!

Sammuthegreat October 29th, 2010 12:58 PM

Congratulations WeightyWillBill, our second Champion! I'll add you to the list now.

Excuse my tardiness but I genuinely will be starting this challenge before much longer. I'm currently undergoing the laborious process of trading all, yes, ALL 400+ of my Pokemon collection from Diamond onto HeartGold, where they will stay for the foreseeable future (probably until I get Black/White). Who the hell made the trading animation SO SLOW?!!?

Anyway, once they're all on HG, I'll get breeding, and transfer the eggs over to my SoulSilver game; then I'll do the challenge.

Started Diamond a couple days ago. Haven't gotten very far. I am going to be using Flygon, Kingdra, Magnezone, and Exeggutor.

Named myself I, chose a girl avatar, and named my "friend" ASH. Chose Chimchar as starter. Hacked in Trapinch/Horsea, and just beat the first Gym with them. Magnemite/Exeggcute are waiting in the sidelines for now until I get those two up a bit to help with the level grinding.

This is going a bit slower than I thought, but I am currently doing a Ultimate Monotype w/ Fighting so I'll do this when I get bored of getting owned by Flying types.

I have finally traded all the Pokemon I need over to my main HG game, and so I've bred my Ones That Got Away team. They're currently waiting on HG at Lv.1 until tomorrow, when I'll start a new SS game and trade them over to start the challenge. So I'll finally get to play through my own challenge! Hurrah!

Anyways, a pre-update of my team:

http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/138.png Lv.1, Male, Mild. Somewhat stubborn.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/203.png Lv.1, Female, Sassy. Somewhat of a clown.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/200.png Lv.1, Female, Docile. Somewhat vain.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/127.png Lv.1, Male, Quiet. A little quick-tempered.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/147.png Lv.1, Male, Adamant. Scatters things often.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/453.png Lv.1, Male, Relaxed. Quick to flee.

Looking forward to starting this one!

Sammuthegreat November 3rd, 2010 5:20 AM

I finally started my Challenge. I picked Chikorita and beat my rival, and traded my team across from HG, all at Lv.1. I swiftly realised how good it would have been to raise them to Lv.5 before trading them, because grinding an Omanyte is tough when it's Lv.1 and its only attack it Constrict, which does a mighty 1 damage to Pidgeys.

After beating that very first Pidgey though (at the cost of 2 potions and about 15 Constrict PP) Omanyte went straight to Lv.3 though, including a +3 Sp.Atk boost when he hit Lv.3. It was worth it in the end, then. I decided to get each Pokemon to Lv.4 before I started to actually move on. Misdreavus was next, and was just as tricky although for different reasons. The wild Sentret I bumped into used Foresight and Scratch did a lot more damage to Misdreavus than Psywave did to it; I switched in Pinsir and ViceGrip sorted Sentret out, who bizarrely decided to use consecutive Foresights. The next battle, a wild Pidgey, proved easier for Misdreavus despite Psywave's unpredictability, as of course Tackle couldn't hit her. She dinged to Lv.4 and I moved onto Girafarig.

Girafarig's displays in levelling up were hopefully not a sign of things to come; despite having Facade (105 base power with STAB) she had pitiful defences and went down to two Scratches from Sentret. With Pinsir's help though she managed to level up in the end - things improved exponentially as soon as she got past Lv.1, to the point that she was two-shotting enemies by Lv.3 - and so did Pinsir in the process, with ease, and his Attack rose dramatically.

Dratini was next, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that his moveset included Thunder Wave and Extremespeed. His father was a Dragonair that I'd half-raised on Pokemon Diamond, so he had a bit of a headstart move-wise. Extremespeed caused Sentret some problems even with Dratini only at Lv.1, and with Girafarig's help he levelled up in no time. It's pretty lucky he's rather handy already, because it'll be a long time before he's fully evolved!

The last Pokemon I had to raise was Croagunk, and I was about to do so when I realised his only offensive move was Astonish, which wouldn't hit Sentret or Pidgey. Dash and blast. Luckily though, Croagunk's part-Poison typing meant that he'd be invaluable against all the annoying Weedle around here, whom he could hit. Terrific stuff, especially considering that his starting stats were lower than all 5 of my other party members. I was worried he'd be useless right from the off... So we moved on North from Cherrygrove and lo and behold, a Weedle attacked! Croagunk made short work of it and was at Lv.4 in no time, thankfully learning Mud-Slap along the way (he's still screwed against Pidgey though!).

Anyways, next time I'll do a proper update with less random waffle; I just wanted to post my (very) early impressions of my team before we got started properly. The team is as below in the spoiler tags at the time of writing.

Spoiler:
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/453.png
Croagunk, Male, Relaxed, Lv.4
Impressions: surprisingly useful so far, despite horrible starting stats and moveset. Can't be poisoned by Weedle and hits surprisingly hard.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/138.png
Omanyte, Male, Mild, Lv.4
Impressions: another whose typing will come in very handy, as Normal attacks tend to do just 1 damage. Can't hit too hard yet with only Constrict; for the moment better defensively than offensively.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/200.png
Misdreavus, Female, Docile, Lv.4
Impressions: something of an unknown quantity so far, mainly due to Psywave's unreliability. Good stats already and immunity to Normal moves helps a great deal though.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/203.png
Girafarig, Female, Sassy, Lv.4
Impressions: had a very shaky start, still the only one of my Pokemon to faint so far. Since then though she's gone from strength to strength; Facade hits so hard opponents don't have time to test her dodgy defences.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/147.png
Dratini, Male, Adamant, Lv.4
Impressions: best moveset of the lot, although stats are rounded but unimpressive just now. Solid if unspectacular thus far.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/127.png
Pinsir, Male, Quiet, Lv.4
Impressions: undoubtedly the star of the show so far, Pinsir was the Pokemon to step in when Girafarig, Misdreavus or Dratini encountered trouble. He's levelled up in remarkable time, and ViceGrip hits like a steam train. Shame his typing renders him unusable in the first Gym...

jdthebud November 3rd, 2010 9:07 AM

Just started mine on Platinum. Named self Jaskil, rival Nolan. Chose Piplup (Fluffy) and then hatched Skarmory (Silver) and Chinchou (Zapp) eggs in Sandgem, am currently in Jubilife City after beating Nolan for the second time.

Team Jaskil:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/0/0d/Spr_4d_170.png
Zapp (Chinchou, M) - L4
Nature: Modest, Ability: Volt Absorb
Moves: Bubble, Supersonic
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/54/Spr_4d_227.png
Silver (Skarmory, F) - L7
Nature: Adamant, Ability: Keen Eye
Moves: Peck, Leer, Sand-Attack
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/a/a1/Spr_4p_393.png
Fluffy (Piplup, M) - L7
Nature: Quirky, Ability: Torrrent
Moves: Pound, Growl
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/a/ae/Spr_4p_399_f.png
Worker (Bidoof, F) - L3
Nature: Docile, Ability: Simple
Moves: Tackle

Won't update very often until my other challenges are in between regions.

Sammuthegreat November 4th, 2010 7:13 AM

Update 2:

- Cleared the Sprout Tower
- Beat Falkner using Misdreavus to Spite Pidgeotto's Roost down to 0PP and smacking it repeatedly with Girafarig's Facade and Omanyte's Water Gun
- Made it through Union Cave
- Cleared the Rockets out of the Slowpoke Well
- Beat Rival at Azalea Town
- Beat Bugsy using Misdreavus to Confuse Ray and Psywave Scyther, and Croagunk to soak up Kakuna's Poison Stings
- Caught the Farfetch'd and got Cut
- Move Tutored Headbutt onto all 6 Pokemon
- Got through Ilex Forest and reached Goldenrod.

Spoiler:
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/453.png
Croagunk, Male, Relaxed, Lv.17
Rock Smash, Faint Attack, Headbutt, Poison Sting
Impressions: really useful so far, mainly because of his awesome typing rendering Bug and Poison moves practically useless. I taught him Rock Smash and he learned Faint Attack so now he has a couple of decent offensive moves too.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/138.png
Omanyte, Male, Mild, Lv.15
Water Gun, Withdraw, Headbutt, Bite
Impressions: was more defensive than offensive until he learned Water Gun, when he suddenly became incredibly powerful due to his high Sp.Atk, aided by his nature. I didn't use him against Bugsy but he'll no doubt come in handy later, especially when he has AncientPower and (probably) Ice Beam.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/200.png
Misdreavus, Female, Docile, Lv.17
Confuse Ray, Astonish, Headbutt, Psywave
Impressions: getting better all the time, especially now she knows Confuse Ray and Astonish, which is slightly more reliable than Psywave. I can see her being an incredibly useful Pokemon, especially after I evolve her; opponents struggle to hit her, and her Sp.Atk just keeps rising and rising... I'm not usually the world's biggest fan of Ghost Pokemon (Banette aside) but this little lady is changing my view.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/203.png
Girafarig, Female, Sassy, Lv.17
Headbutt, Facade, Odor Sleuth, Confusion
Impressions: probably my most consistent Pokemon so far, although I couldn't use her against Bugsy because Scyther's U-turn would have decimated her. Facade and (now) Headbutt hit hard, aided by Confusion for all those annoying Weedles.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/147.png
Dratini, Male, Adamant, Lv.13
Thunder Wave, Headbutt, Twister, Extremespeed
Impressions: easily my biggest disappointment to date. His stats are pretty bad, Extremespeed doesn't hit hard enough yet to warrant only having 5PP, and Twister is a poor second option. Plus he levels up more slowly than the rest of my team. I know he'll improve, but for now he just isn't that useful...
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/127.png
Pinsir, Male, Quiet, Lv.13
Headbutt, Cut, Rock Tomb, Seismic Toss
Impressions: started the Challenge insanely well, due to his raw, simple power. He hits hard still, but Vicegrip isn't quite as useful as it once was, and his typing has proved more of a burden than a bonus so far - he wasn't much use in either Gym, although I should have used him against Bugsy's Scyther - not only does he have the highest BST of my team at the moment, but he also knows Rock Tomb (which I forgot I'd taught him) which would have destroyed Scyther. Still, a simple but effective Pokemon, and the only one of my team who could learn Cut.

boomerjp November 6th, 2010 10:14 PM

After a couple long sessions over this past week, I have completed my Diamond run.

Here's how my journey turned out.

Update 1 - Oreburgh City - Victory Road
Spoiler:

  • So after I got my last two members of my team, Magnemite and Exeggcute, I traveled from Oreburgh to Floaroma, beating trainers and leveling my team. I removed the Team Galactic threat and rescued the old man hostage and ran up to Eterna Forest.
  • I grinded in there for quite a while, getting my whole team to L17 before tackling the Eterna Gym. Got Cut right before from Cynthia. This gym was troublesome for me, since I had a Ground/Water that couldn't use, and Exeggcute doesn't really learn any good moves until later. Took me a couple tries to kill Roserade with Magnemite, but I emerged victorious in the end.
  • Headed south down Cycling Road after claiming a bicycle and explorer kit, and ran through Wayward Cave, grinding some more with the lost girl. Got Vs. Seeker and Dowsing MCHN. Bestest presents ever :D
  • Hearthome was next, grabbed a few items and beat ASH.
  • Solaceon Town was next, caught a Starly for Fly/Defog and climbed Lost Tower for Strength, taught to Chimchar (Rock Smash/Cut as well). Saw an Unown in the ruins and claimed a couple items there too.
  • Ran through Mt. Coronet, met a random dude with green hair, entered Veilstone City. Loaded up on Fresh Water/Lemonade in the Dept. Store. Exeggcute owned the gym with Confusion spam. Got a Coin Case (dunno why I never used it). Helped get Evan his PokeDex back from the thugs who "found" it. Grabbed Fly.
  • Back to Hearthome and exited south towards Pastoria. Magnemite evolved into Magneton around here. Horsea evolved into Seadra around here too. Beat some trainers, ran through the marsh and got some items. Arrived in Pastoria and got Defog from the Great Marsh. Taught it to Starly.
  • I love Pastoria City. Move Re-learner is here :D Taught Magneton Tri-Attack from him (until I get Flash Cannon) and proceeded to own the water gym with Exeggcute/Magneton.
  • Followed the Team Galactic grunt out of the city east, and made my way along the beach to the Hotel area, whipping trainers on the way. Found a Suite Card and claimed a Lava Cookie (yum!) and fought trainers inside the restaurant. Got the SecretPotion from Cynthia and flew back to the Psyduck blocking the way to Celestic Town.
  • Healed the Psyduck, got the Old Charm from Cynthia to deliver, and made my way there, clearing the fog along the way. Arrived in Celestic, beat up the grunt, got Surf as my reward. Taught it to Seadra.
  • Trapinch has evolved into Vibrava by now as well. Back to Hearthome to defeat the Ghost Gym. Confusion and Crunch (Vibrava) owns the Gym.
  • With Surf, I made my way to Floaroma to get a Leaf Stone. Evolved Exeggcute into Exeggutor. Taught him Sunny Day and Solar Beam. Pew Pew.
  • Canalave City is next. Surfed there, battling trainers along the way. Beat ASH, then the Gym. Exeggutor Solar Beamed/Seadra Surfed them all. Magneton also helped with Flash Cannon.
  • EXPLOSION!!!!!!!!!!!!! and story events. Boring I know.
  • Went to Iron Island to get my Riolu egg. Grinded a bit here with the instant healing.
  • Valor Lakefront next. Put a beat down on Galactic. Same story at all the other lakes. Got Ice Beam and Rock Climb on the snow path. Beat the Gym in Snowpoint with mostly Magnezone (evolved in the cave before the snow routes).
  • Used Rock Climb to claim Psychic TM, taught it to Exeggutor (Bye Bye Confusion). Went to Acuity Lake, more story events. Went to Galactic HQ and beat it easily. Vibrava evolves into Flygon. I free the 3 Psychic legendaries.
  • Time to kill Dialga. Mt. Coronet is way too long in my opinion. Final Galactic battle is a joke. Dig (Flygon) plus Sleep Powder (Exeggutor) beat Dialga.
  • Flew to the lakes again and picked up Thunder Bolt (Taught to Magnezone) and killed the 2 legendaries and Mesprit ran away. Hatched my Riolu for Nat'l Dex.
  • Sunyshore City now. Like I need to be told to battle the Gym Leader. Flygon raped with Ground immunity to Electric. Got Waterfall from Jasmine (Why is she here...) Taught it to Seadra.
  • Surfed to Victory Road. Healed up and bought some Max Repels. Made my way through. My team was all about 55 or so.

Update 2 - Elite Four (Both Times)
Spoiler:

  • Aaron was rather easy. Actually the whole Elite Four was cake. I taught Rock Slide to Flygon, and most of his team is Bug/Flying. I killed Drapion with Earthquake (TM found in Wayward Cave) and the rest with Thunder Bolt when Flygon fainted.
  • Bertha went down to Earthquake/Surf/Solar Beam
  • Flint got rolled by Surf for his fire types and Onix, and Dragon Claw for the rest.
  • Lucian went down to Crunch (Flygon) and other random moves. Alakazam was a bit tough as he knows Focus Blast, but Thunder Wave/Thunder Bolt Spam took him down.
  • Cynthia was easy too. I taught Seadra Ice Beam (Forgot Waterfall beforehand) solely for Garchomp. Flygon got one shot by Dragon Rush, so I sent out Seadra...and he got one shot by a CRITICAL HIT Giga Impact. Damn. Reset and no critical hit Giga Impact meant a 2HkO with Ice Beam.
  • Yay, champion! However, I wanted to do it with kingdra, so I got the Nat'l Dex, and made my way out to the Survival area, where I spent about an hour catching Horsea until I got a Dragon Scale to evolve Seadra.
  • Time to challenge the E4 again!
  • Pretty much the same story for all the fights. Cynthia was a bit different, as I started with kingdra and dragon danced 3 times to get my speed up. Beat Spiritomb with 2 Surfs and then 2HkO'd Garchomp with Ice Beam (She used Brick Break for some reason...). The rest of her team fell to super effective attacks (Go Exeggutor!).

This was a really fun challenge :D

I think I might do it again for a Gen 3 or 2 game after I finish my other challenges.

Final Team I:

Kingdra - L60 @ Icicle Plate
Nature: Quirky

Jeez, never really new i had that many.

Go for Spearow (20 lol), Dratini, Staryu, Parasect, Sneasel, and Houndour.

Obviously, you can evolve them :)

Have fun! If non of them can learn Rock Smash or Flash, post here and I'll pick one that can. Shouldn't be a problem though I don't think.

Sammuthegreat November 7th, 2010 2:18 AM

Congratulations boomerjp, I'll add you to the Champions list right away. ger345, I've added you to Challengers.

BTW, I'm fairly sure Parasect learns both Rock Smash and Flash, so ger345 should be good to go.

Update 3:

- Cleared out the Goldenrod Underground
- Found Whitney dicking about in the Radio Tower. Proceeded to beat up all her Gym Trainer buddies
- Beat Whitney herself, primarily using my female team members, Misdreavus and Girafarig
- Moved on North from Goldenrod, beating up a Sudowoodo using Omanyte
- Reached Ecruteak. Beat up my rival (Manboob) at the Burnt Tower, even though my team were a bit underlevelled at this point
- Set the Beasts free, then got grinding (realised Morty's Lv.25 Gengar would destroy me otherwise)
- Eventually beat Morty and moved west to Olivine, having picked up Strength and Surf along the way

Spoiler:
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/453.png
Croagunk, Male, Relaxed, Lv.30
Rock Smash, Faint Attack, Focus Blast, Revenge
Impressions: growing into a really great Pokemon. His awesome typing covers his defensive frailties, and Focus Blast is hilariously overpowered for this stage of the game. The next 7 levels could be quite tough though - his BST of 300 might really start to hinder him at these higher levels until he evolves.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/138.png
Omanyte, Male, Mild, Lv.26
Rollout, Mud Shot, Headbutt, Surf
Impressions: another Pokemon who may struggle before he really starts to shine, Omanyte's been dependable when I've needed him. I feel I should have used him more throughout the game - he could have come in useful against all the Gym leaders so far, but I didn't use him because there was always one Pokemon more useful in those Gyms. We'll see though.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/200.png
Misdreavus, Female, Docile, Lv.26
Confuse Ray, Astonish, Headbutt, Psybeam
Impressions: only a small change to her moveset, but what a difference it's made. Psybeam kicks like a mule with her awesome Sp.Atk. She's still tough to hit and she's still going strong. Roll on Lv.37 when she learns Shadow Ball (and I evolve her)!
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/203.png
Girafarig, Female, Sassy, Lv. 26
Reflect, Psybeam, Odor Sleuth, Strength
Impressions: probably my most consistent Pokemon so far, still. It's quite difficult to think of new things to say about Girafarig - she's still ahead of the rest and will be for a while yet (until the rest evolve). I kinda liked Girafarig before this Challenge... Now I love her.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/148.png
Dragonair, Male, Adamant, Lv.30
Thunder Wave, Headbutt, Dragon Rage, Extremespeed
Impressions: ladies and gentlemen, Team Sammuthegreat has had its first evolution! After he hit Lv.15 and learned Dragon Rage, things got a whole lot easier for young Dratini. The next 15 levels were a cinch, and Dragonair was the key to my success against Morty - or at least, Thunder Wave was, before Gengar critted a Shadow Ball. Bah. Still, he gets the award for Most Improved Pokemon.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/127.png
Pinsir, Male, Quiet, Lv.24
Headbutt, Cut, Rock Tomb, Brick Break
Impressions: Pinsir's nature perfectly describes his performance so far. After that blistering start, he's frankly not done very much. His typing hasn't come in particularly handy yet, and I keep finding myself raising other Pokemon to take on a Gym and forgetting to level poor Pinsir. He's still got plenty of time to come good though, and with his crazy Atk stat I'm sure he will.

Update on my Platinum challenge:

Spoiler:
  • Went to Oreburgh Town, picking up Rock Smash on the way.
  • Found Roark in the cave, and after getting Zapp up to L12, when he learns Water Gun, I took on the gym.

    http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/1318/onesgotawayroark.png
Geodude and Onix were both OHKO by Water Gun, and Zapp was able to survive a Leer + Headbutt from Crainidos with 2 HP and 2HKO with Water Gun. The extra 2 HP is from a level up.

  • After talking to Nolan, I Rock Smashed my way through the cave and made my way to Floarama Town.
  • Got some berries, and saved the scientist from Team Galactic by beating Mars.

    http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/3566/onesgotawaymars1.png
  • Went north to Eterna City, got Cut and challenged the gym with Silver.

    http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/9389/onesgotawaygardenia.png
Turtwig and Cherrim were easily taken care of by Peck, but Cherrim Leech Seeded and Roserade paralyzed Silver. She fought through it, though, and 3HKO Roserade with Peck.

  • With Cut in hand, went to save the Bike Shop owner.
  • Talked to Looker (crazy guy), then beat all the Grunts.
  • On the top floor, found another Galactic leader, Jupiter.

    http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/2425/onesgotawayjupiter1.png
Was able to paralyze Skunktank with Zapp before switching to Silver and Pecked him to death. Night Slash fortunately did not crit.

  • Got a Bike and the Explorer Kit, but the emulator cannot go Underground, so I hacked in a Claw Fossil, then went back to Oreburgh (the long way lol) to revive Anorith.
  • Went to the Museum, revived Anorinth at L20 and named him Slasher. Taught him Rock Tomb.
  • Went up Cycling Road and then went back down.
  • Am about to fight the trainers underneath Cycling Road and go through Wayward Cave.

Edit: Update 2 (wow, no one posted in 2 days???):

Spoiler:
  • Went to Wayward Cave and led the lost girl to the exit after grinding a bit with her.
  • Went to the hidden cave and got the Earthquake TM.
  • Made my way to Hearthome City.
  • On the way there just outside Mt. Coronet:

    http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/8711/lanturn.png
  • After the plot stuff, I challenged the gym. Fantina wasn't easy.

    http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/7590/onesgotawayfantina.png
Beat Duskull with Zapp pretty easily. I Parafused Mismagius then switched to Slasher, who was able to finished him off with Iron Claw. Haunter has low Defense so he was easy for Slasher.

  • Then I healed up and went to the exit to go to Rt 209, where Nolan was waiting for me!

    http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/572/onesgotawaynolan3.png
He was pretty easy after I was able to hit through Starvaria's DT. Silver took care of the rest as well.

  • After healing and boxing Fluffy, I hacked in a Vulpix at Rt 209, which is where Vulpix is found using the LeafGreen Dongle method. Got a female one with Bold nature.
  • The problem Vulpix has is that at L14, she forgets Ember for Will-O-Wisp, so when she is caught at L16, she only knows one attack move (Quick Attack), which really sucks. She does learn Flamethrower at L24 though, which is pretty early...grinding galore - the Exp. Share makes it easier though.
  • Also caught a Birabel for later when I need it. Named Worker2.
  • After arriving at Solaceon Town, I am about to go up Lost Tower.

Another update. Thank God someone posted lol.

Spoiler:
  • First went to Solaceon Ruins to get Defog and a Fire Stone.
  • Grinded outside Lost Tower against Roselias to get Pyre to L24, when it learned Flamerthrower.
  • Armed with a real attack, went up Lost Tower, training Pyre to match the rest of my team.
  • Went east from Solaceon to Veilstone City.
  • Went to the gym, beat Maylene, who was pretty hard. Pyro was indispensable against Lucario. Forgot a screenshot.
  • After helping Dawn get her Pokedex back, Looker took me into the Warehouse, where I got Fly and taught it to Silver.
  • Flew back to Floarama Town and got the Pluck TM I forgot earlier, taught to Silver.
  • Made my way down to Pastoria City, home of the Great Marsh and my last team member, Skorupi. Had to change the date a couple times as Skorupi is a changing Pokemon.
  • Caught one at L28, Female with Careful Nature.
  • After rebattling the Eeveelution trainer a couple times and getting Dig (taught to Slasher), I was ready to challenge the gym...or so I thought.
  • Nolan showed up. I took care of him easily.

    http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/5234/onesgotawaynolan4.png
He wasn't too difficult. Don't really remember much about the battle, though.

  • Healed up, then challenged the gym.
  • I was underleveled against Crasher Wake, but it was fine.

    http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/7573/onesgotawaywake.png
Funny how Silver is always my final Pokemon in these screenshots...NOT!

  • After beating Crasher Wake, it was plot time.
  • BBOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!
  • I followed the Grunt and finally beat it down.
  • Cythia showed up with the SecretPotion, which I took to the Psyducks outside Rt 210.
  • Along with the Old Charm and Fluffy (Defog), I made my way to Celestic Town.
  • Beat the bomb-toting Grunt, then went inside the cave.
  • Cyrus shows up, wants to change the world. No wai!

    http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/8987/onesgotawaycyrus1.png
I actually lost once because I made stupid moves and switches. The second time was fine though. Silver again the final member out there.

  • Got Surf from the Elder, taught it to Zapp of course.
  • In Jubilife City, I got the Marking Map app for the Poketch, then Surfed to Canalave City.
  • On the bridge, Nolan, fresh from the Gym, wants to battle. Okay!

    http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/820/onesgotawaynolan5.png
Beat him pretty easily. Pyre is out there this time for Torterra.

  • Went to train in Iron Island before challenging the gym.
  • Am currently about to fight the Team Galatic Grunts there, but will do some grinding first to get my team up to L40 I think, so that Draken and Slasher will have evolved. Will use the Fire Stone on Pyre when she learn Extrasensory at L44 I think.
  • I'm gonna need another Heart Scale (have one right now) - Draipon for Ice Fang, Ninetales for Nasty Plot perhaps.

Team Jaskil:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/9/9a/Spr_4p_451.png
Draken (Skorupi, F) - L39 @ Silver Powder
Nature: Careful, Ability: Battle Armor
Moves: Bug Bite, Acupressure, Poison Fang, Payback

Pyre (Vulpix, F) - L37
Nature: Bold, Ability: Flash Fire
Moves: Quick Attack, Confuse Ray, Will-O-Wisp, Flamethrower
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/e/e0/Spr_4d_347.png
Slasher (Anorith, M) - L36
Nature: Impish, Ability: Battle Armor
Moves: Return, Metal Claw, Rock Tomb, Dig

Zapp (Lanturn, M) - L38

Worker2 (Bibarel, M) - L19
Nature: Careful, Ability: Unware
Moves: Rock Smash, Cut, Water Gun, Headbutt

In the box are Bill (Psyduck) with Flash and Fluffy (Piplup) with Defog.

You can have... Magnezone, Weezing, Froslass, Salamence, Skarmory and Bibarel (thought I'd give you an HM Slave...). Added you to the Challengers list.

I'll edit this later with my most recent progress update.

Thanks. I'll be sure to start soon. ^_~
EDIT: Actually, I may have trouble in getting Magnezone. Can it be changed?

If I can change it, go with Scizor. You're gonna have to get a Scyther in the Park and use that for the first half I think though, unless you can get a Metal Coat earlier.

By the way, Sammu, you need to fix the spoiler tags on Boomerjp's Platinum champion team.

I noticed this earlier when I added Zeffy to the Challengers list - I tried changing it but it absolutely refuses to make it just one spoiler tag! I don't understand why, it's formatted in an identical fashion to all the other spoiler tags I've put in every other post I've ever done, but it splits it into two when I click "Post"! It's really annoying... Hopefully it'll change when someone else completes the Challenge on D/P/Pt...

EDIT: Fixed it. I know what I did wrong now, I put part of the bold tag for the "DPPt" Heading in spoiler tags as well, and it confused the code.

Update 4:

- Cleared out the Olivine Lighthouse, and found Jasmine at the top
- Surfed to Cianwood, picked up the SecretPotion and beat the snot out of Chuck using Girafarig's Psybeam
- Surfed back to Olivine after picking up Fly - none of my Pokemon could learn it! Caught a Hoothoot for that purpose
- Healed the Ampharos in the Lighthouse and got a call from Baoba - Safari Zone was open
- Flew back to Cianwood and headed towards the Safari Zone to level up a bit before the Olivine Gym
- Took on Jasmine. Croagunk took out Magnemite1, Pinsir took out Magnemite2, Omanyte destroyed Steelix with Surf (such an easy Gym)
- Flew back to Ecruteak and headed East towards Mahogany Town and the Lake of Rage!

The Team:
Spoiler:
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/453.png
Croagunk, Male, Relaxed, Lv.33
Rock Smash, Faint Attack, Focus Blast, Revenge
Impressions: I've said it before and I'll probably say it again - his typing is awesome. He's edging closer and closer to levelling up and as soon as I get to Blackthorn he's forgetting Rock Smash, but what a great little Pokemon.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/138.png
Omanyte, Male, Mild, Lv.32
Rollout, Mud Shot, Headbutt, Surf
Impressions: he was a few levels behind the rest after Chuck's Gym, so I decided to train him up to take on Jasmine even though Croagunk could easily have handled Steelix with Focus Blast. Levelling him up was easy enough with his super-powered Surf though, and he keeps plugging away. Good and reliable.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/200.png
Misdreavus, Female, Docile, Lv.31
Confuse Ray, Charge Beam, Headbutt, Psybeam
Impressions: I officially love this Pokemon. Her Sp.Atk is immense, especially with Charge Beam (one of my absolute favourite moves since I taught it to my (shiny!) Uxie on my first Diamond run and he proceeded to pretty much destroy the whole Pokemon league at lv.50) and she just can't be stopped once she gets a head of steam. She's going to be frightening when she's a Mismagius... Only 6 levels to go! :D
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/203.png
Girafarig, Female, Sassy, Lv. 31
Reflect, Psybeam, Assurance, Strength
Impressions: I still love Girafarig. She's probably still my best Pokemon at this point, levelling up nice and quickly and taking out enemies without breaking a sweat.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/148.png
Dragonair, Male, Adamant, Lv.33
Thunder Wave, Iron Tail, Aqua Tail, Extremespeed
Impressions: what a turnaround from this sleek destroyer. After a terrible start he's really grown into my number 1 powerhouse, and no foe has been able to cause him significant damage yet. His worst stat - currently Defence at 53 - is only 2 lower than Croagunk's BEST stat - his Atk/Sp.Atk are both 55! And Croagunk is awesome! I really wish Dragonair had a better evolution though, Dragonite looks daft. I might petition Gamefreak to design the first ever split-evolution-line for a pseudo-legendary. A Sp.Atk-based Dragonair evolution that actually looked cool like Dragonair would make me wet my pants.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/127.png
Pinsir, Male, Quiet, Lv.31
Headbutt, Cut, Rock Tomb, Brick Break
Impressions: he hits hard, he hits (surprisingly) fast. Still a one-trick pony, but no less effective for it.

jdthebud November 11th, 2010 10:23 PM

Update time.

Spoiler:

Now I am about to go through Mt. Coronet and trudge through the snow to Snowpoint City.

Team Jaskil:

Slasher (Armaldo, M) - L36 @ Amulet Coin
Nature: Impish, Ability: Battle Armor
Moves: Return, Metal Claw, Rock Tomb, Dig
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/6/6d/Spr_4d_171.png
Zapp (Lanturn, M) - L38 @ Magnet
Nature: Modest, Ability: Volt Absorb
Moves: Surf, Confuse Ray, Thunder Wave, Discharge
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/54/Spr_4d_227.png
Silver (Skarmory, F) - L37 @ Metal Coat
Nature: Adamant, Ability: Keen Eye
Moves: Pluck, Fly, Sand-Attack, Steel Wing
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/f/fc/Spr_4p_400_m.png
Worker2 (Bibarel, M) - L19
Nature: Careful, Ability: Unware

All right I'll try, but are there anymore? I just despise trading. :( or, can I just accept those 5 and choose one for myself?

Ok thanks. I'm going to start soon enough. After I delete my old savefile, that is. xD

Sammuthegreat November 12th, 2010 4:17 PM

Update 5:

- Took out the Red Gyarados, incurring £3000 in fines trying to work out how to get the Sludge Bomb TM (turns out you can only get it after clearing the Secret Basement)
- Cleared the Secret Basement with Lance... got Sludge Bomb TM
- Beat several shades of snot out of Pryce (another Gym I never have trouble with). By the time I challenged him my team were all at least the level of his higest level Pokemon, Piloswine (lv.34), so he was absolutely no challenge.
- Headed over to Goldenrod to clear out the Radio Tower and the Underground Base - Misdreavus, Croagunk and Omanyte all evolved in the process
- Once Team Rocket were forced out of Johto once and for all, I headed over to Blackthorn City
- Once I reached it, I used the Move Obliviator to delete Cut from Pinsir's moveset and Rock Smash from Toxicroak's
- Swept through the Blackthorn Gym, although Clair proved a bit tricky because Kingdra was faster than Dragonair and OHKO'd him with Dragon Pulse. Toxicroak sorted him in the end though, spamming Focus Punch when Kingdra bizarrely decided to use Hyper Beam repeatedly
- Got a phone call from Professor Elm - some Kimono Girls wanted to take me on. Caught a Poliwag and evolved it to Poliwhirl for HM Slave purposes (wasted a lot of valuable XP that could have been used on my team Pokemon in the process... Grr)
- Pinsir took out Umbr and Esp, Omastar took out Flar, Toxicroak finished off Jolt and Mismagius ate up Vapor... nomnomnom
- The Kimono Girls decided I was ready to take on Lugia, so after clearing out Whirl Islands, that was exactly what I did... and Mismagius ate him up too! Nomnomnomnomnom
- Bumped into Raikou and caught him in my Master Ball to trade to my main HG game later on... why not!
- Saved just after reaching Kanto, heading towards Victory Road and the Pokemon League

The Team:
Spoiler:
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/454.png
Croagunk, Male, Relaxed, Lv.41
Poison Jab, Faint Attack, Focus Blast, Nasty Plot
Impressions: this is the sort of Pokemon that really pleases me: not only does he look awesome, but he has the skills to back it up. It was a bit shaky until he hit lv.41 because after forgetting Rock Smash, the only reliable attacking move he had was Faint Attack, which didn't hit too hard (the other two moves being Nasty Plot and Focus Blast). Now he's got Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb to follow, he's laughing.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/139.png
Omastar, Male, Mild, Lv.41
AncientPower, Mud Shot, Headbutt, Surf
Impressions: I almost feel like I'm underusing this guy. His Sp.Atk is the highest single stat of any of my Pokemon, so he levels up in the blink of an eye - he just steamrollers anything he's up against, getting so far ahead of the rest I have to leave him for a while for the rest to catch up. Possibly my new favourite fossil - the rest never seemed to have the moveset to back up their awesome stats/typings. And AncientPower got off to a good start - it raised all of (then) Omanyte's stats 3 times out of the first 4 times I used it!
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/429.png
Mismagius, Female, Docile, Lv.41
Confuse Ray, Charge Beam, Shadow Ball, Psybeam
Impressions: Mismagius is a fun word to type. Mismagius. Mismagius. Anyway, she's awesome in literally every way. She's lightning quick and takes opponents as threatening as Lugia down in the blink of an eye, barely taking any damage because of her awesome Sp.Def. A real star.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/203.png
Girafarig, Female, Sassy, Lv. 41
Zen Headbutt, Psychic, Assurance, Strength
Impressions: I fear that Girafarig's time in the spotlight may be drawing to a close. She's still rock solid and dependable, but she's simply being overtaken now by more powerful teammates like Toxicroak, Omastar and Mismagius. Still, I love her fiercely, and she came in handy when she was the only Pokemon I had who could learn Flash for Whirl Islands (well, Mismagius could too, but I would rather replace Girafarig's rarely used Reflect than any of Mismagius' moveset). If Mismagius' star is on the rise, Girafarig's has just faded slightly.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/148.png
Dragonair, Male, Adamant, Lv.41
Thunder Wave, Dragon Rush, Aqua Tail, Extremespeed
Impressions: Dragonair's topsy-turvy performance record continues. In the mid-30s (after Jasmine really) he suddenly hit an awkward phase where his only accurate offensive move was Extremespeed which only has 5PP, and neither Iron Tail nor Aqua Tail was quite powerful enough to finish tougher oppoents in one hit. All of that... well, ok, half of that changed with the advent of Dragon Rush though, and (slightly disappointing performance in the Blackthorn Gym aside) he's still a valuable and strong member of the team.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/127.png
Pinsir, Male, Quiet, Lv.41
X-Scissor, Swords Dance, Rock Tomb, Brick Break
Impressions: Pinsir's jumped up in my estimations again. X-Scissor is a brutal attack in his hands (paws? Claws?) and his performance in tearing the Kimono Girls to shreds was invaluable - I usually struggle against the first one and her Umbreon! Luckily there will be lots of Rock and Psychic Pokemon from here on that Pinsir can destroy with Brick Break and X-Scissor respectively. And I get the feeling he's looking forward to it...

Pretty big update on Platinum.

Spoiler:

  • Trudged to Snowpoint City, which is ALWAYS annoying. Hail is the most hated move ever.
  • Picked up Rock Climb, taught to Worker2.
  • In Snowpoint, it was time to challenge the gym.

    http://a.imageshack.us/img227/7551/onesgotawaycandice.png
Ended up using my whole team here because I didn't use items and Hail was evident throughout. Also used Pyre last as she was the highest on my team. One Flamethrower and Abomasnow was done.

  • Rock Climbed to Lake Acuity to see Jupiter escape.
  • Flew to Pastoria for the Move Relearner and taught Draken Ice Fang and Pyre Nasty Plot.
  • TM time as well. Earthquake, Rock Slide and X-Scissor to Slasher, Poison Jab to Draken.
  • Flew to Veilstone to take on TG.
  • Looker unlocked the Warehouse for me and I eventually found the Galatic Key.
  • Went back to the HQ and cleared it out. Second fight against Cyrus.

    http://a.imageshack.us/img258/7071/onesgotawaycyrus2.png
Silver killed most of the foes before Pyre finished up.

    http://a.imageshack.us/img804/1774/onesgotawaysaturn2.png
Then I fought Saturn again. Same thing - Silver killed most of em, then Pyre cleaned up.

  • After freeing the Lake trio, it was time to try and stop TG in Mt. Coronet.
  • After climbing the mountain, I reached the Sky Pillar, where Jupiter and Mars were waiting for me. Nolan showed up to help me, not that I needed it.

    http://a.imageshack.us/img718/6380/onesgotawaymarssaturn.png
Silver went down to repeated damage, then Slasher came in and finished it. Nolan lost Munchlax and Rapidash.

  • Cyrus summoned Dialga and Palkia.
  • GIRATINA!!!!!
  • Pretty cool cutscene, although it has nothing on Emerald.
  • Cynthia showed up, and we followed the lake trio into the Distortion World.
  • Navigated it pretty easily, having done it a couple time before.
  • Finally caught up to Cyrus, who after ranting and raving, was up for a battle.

    http://a.imageshack.us/img560/853/onesgotawaycyrusfin.png
This was hard because I led with Silver and she was OHKOed by Houndoom's flamethrower. I should have switched out, and because I didn't, her presence was sorely missed later. She would have been very useful against Crobat, his final Pokemon. After healing Draken a few times due to confusion damage, I was able to push through and send Cyrus off in a fit of mad rage.

  • Then it was time to kill Giratina.

    http://a.imageshack.us/img440/4776/giratina.png
It wasn't easy, but after Zapp Parafused him before being taken down, Draken Paybacked him for the KO.

  • After leaving the Distortion World and reappearing in the Sendoff Spring, I flew back to Sandgem.
  • Proceeded to hunt down the Lake trio. "Saw" Mespirit and killed Uxie and Azelf.
  • After some TM hunting for Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Psychic (sold), U-Turn, and Roost (taught to Silver), I went to Sunnyshore City.
  • Bought some Seals.
  • Found Volkner in the Lighthouse (irresponsible cur).
  • Beat the gym pretty easily.

    http://a.imageshack.us/img203/9310/onesgotawayvolkner.png
Slasher almost swept Volkner with Earthquake. He doesn't have the speed to sweep this gym though as he isn't a ground type. Pyre was in there for his last one, Luxray. Finally shook off the paralysis to beat him.

  • Got the Waterfall HM from Jasmine.
  • Taught Strength to Draken and Waterfall to Bibarel (forgot Strength).
  • Got some items with Waterfall - Dragon Claw TM, Stone Plate, the Orbs (sold), and some others.
  • Bought a bunch of vitamins for my Pokemon. Zapp got an Effort Ribbon upon entering Sunnyshore, but the others were a ways off it seems.

Am about to Surf to Victory Road from Sunnyshore.

Team Jaskil:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/2/22/Spr_4p_452.png
Draken (Drapion, F) - L49 @ Poison Barb
Nature: Careful, Ability: Battle Armor
Moves: Strength, Ice Fang, Poison Jab, Crunch
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/e/e6/Spr_4p_038.png
Pyre (Ninetales, F) - L48 @ Mind Plate
Nature: Bold, Ability: Flash Fire
Moves: Extrasensory, Confuse Ray, Nasty Plot, Flamethrower
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/b/bc/Spr_4d_348.png
Slasher (Armaldo, M) - L51 @ Soft Sand
Nature: Impish, Ability: Battle Armor
Moves: Return, X-Scissor, Rock Slide, Earthquake
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/6/6d/Spr_4d_171.png
Zapp (Lanturn, M) - L49 @ Splash Plate
Nature: Modest, Ability: Volt Absorb
Moves: Surf, Confuse Ray, Thunder Wave, Discharge
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/54/Spr_4d_227.png
Silver (Skarmory, F) - L48 @ Iron Plate
Nature: Adamant, Ability: Keen Eye
Moves: Steel Wing, Fly, Night Slash, Roost
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/f/fc/Spr_4p_400_m.png
Worker2 (Bibarel, M) - L19
Nature: Careful, Ability: Unware
Moves: Rock Smash, Cut, Rock Climb, Waterfall

In the box are Bill (Psyduck) with Flash and Fluffy (Piplup) with Defog.

Slasher's moveset is really good. I also like Parafusion Zapp, although I'm gonna teach Ice Beam and Thunderbolt, so one of those status moves has to go. I am thinking about teaching U-turn to Draken as well (forget Strength), although I'm not sure if that is gonna happen Return to Draken (can't learn U-Turn). Swords Dance is an interesting idea as well.

Edit: Update #2: Beat the Elite Four and Cynthia to finish the challenge!

From Sunnyshore to becoming the Champion:
Spoiler:
  • Surfed to Victory Road.
  • Made my way through it pretty easily. No real challenges here.
  • Upon reaching the building, healed up and flew to Canalave City to have Draken forget Strength for Return.
  • Geared up for the final rival fight against Nolan!

    http://a.imageshack.us/img815/2452/onesgotawaynolan6.png
I actually went through my whole team here. Pulled out Pyre at the end, and she took care of Heracross and then finished off Staraptor, who had used U-Turn at the beginning, with a Flamethrower for the win.

  • Now it was time to face the Elite Four:
  • First up was Aaron with his Bug Pokemon.

    http://a.imageshack.us/img842/6118/onesgotawayaaron.png
Went through my whole team here as well. Vespiqueen got set up on me and Silver couldn't finish it. Pyre was my last Pokemon again, and it would have been easier if I had used her more.

  • Next up was Bertha and her Ground-Types:

    http://a.imageshack.us/img703/2131/onesgotawaybertha.png
Zapp's problem here is that he is weak to Ground, and the only other Pokemon on my team who has a super-effective move is Draken with Ice Fang, and he is weak to Ground as well. Needless to say I had a tough time, and but was able to push through with Pyre again as my last Pokemon. She survived an Earthquake from Gliscor while using Nasty Plot, then finished him off with Flamethrower.

  • At this point, I was running out of Revives (9 left here) and I resolved to keep my Pokemon alive more. Didn't Revive Silver for this one.
  • Next up was Flint with his Fire team:

    http://a.imageshack.us/img87/4046/onesgotawayflint.png
I had a much easier time here. Zapp went down to Infernape after paralyzing him, and Slasher EQ for the KO. When Rapidash came out, I switched to Pyre and used Nasty Plot three times. Extrasensory killed Rapidash, Flareon (after healing), and OHKOed Magmortar after a Thunderbolt was not enough to kill Pyre.

  • Lucian was next with Psychic Pokemon:

    http://a.imageshack.us/img823/4990/onesgotawaylucien.png
I was finally able to use Draken effectively here, and this really weas the only battle he participated well in. He took care of Mr. Mime, then switched for Slasher when Brongzong came out. X-Scissor was good for him, and because Earthquake was being used I didn't switch in Pyre. Ended up not using her at all. After Brongzong finally went down, Silver took down Gallade with Fly, and Draken Crunched Alakazam and Espeon for the win.

  • Now that I had beaten the Elite Four, the Champion was next.
  • Cynthia is by far the toughest Champion that I have faced, especially in Platinum due to one new Pokemon, Togekiss replacing Gastrodon. Lance is a close second if your team can't handle Dragons.
  • First I taught Stone Edge to Slasher, even though I ended up never using it. I also didn't teach Zapp Ice Beam because there would have been no chance to use it against Garchomp, who OHKOs with EQ.
  • Here comes Cynthia with her team of OU/Uber Pokemon:

    http://a.imageshack.us/img3/4492/onesgotawaycynthia.png
Wow. This was by far the most unsatisfying Champion battle I have been a part of. I had to PP stall Garchomp's EQ because it was OHko or 2hKO on every one of my Pokemon except Silver, who was taken with Flamethrower.
    Well, first I lost.
Then I used the 7 Rare Candies I had in my bag, and led with Pyre. She set up three Nasty Plots and I healed her, then took down Spiritomb with Flamethrower and then got really lucky when Milotic came out. The first Extrasensory only did about 60%, but Milotic flinched, so Pyre was able 2HKO her without taking a hit. Garchomp came out and EQ for the KO. I thought Pyre would be able to outspeed him, but no luck there.Put out Slasher, and after an EQ (60%)/X-Scissor (20%) exchange, I switched to Silver, and curiously Cythia switched to Togekiss. I switched in Zapp, who nullified the Shock Wave, and eventually Thunderbolt 2HKOed Togekiss after I healed Slasher. Roserade came out and killed Zapp with Energy Ball, then Silver beat her with Fly. Garchomp came back out and Flamethrower took Silver down. At this point I have two Pokemon left - Slasher and Draken. Draken couldn't survive an Earthquake to use Ice Fang, so I had to PP stall with Slasher. I got a few X-scissors in when Garchop missed with Dragon Rush a couple times. Then came a big break for me. After I healed Slasher once, Cythia switched to her final Pokemon, Lucario. Slasher did 95% with Earthquake, and Lucario missed with Stone Edge, which may or may not have OHKOed Slasher. Cynthia then used her last Full Restore, which ment she didn't have one to use on Garchomp (Thank God!). Slasher EQ twice for the KO, then proceeded to PP stall Garchomp until EQ ran out and Dragon Rushes started coming. Slasher got Garchomp down to a sliver before fianally going down. Draken came in and survived a Giga Impact, then finally took the win with Crunch. It was finally over.

If you could add me to the Champions list that would be great :D.

Congratulations jdthebud, our 3rd Champion!

Update 6:

Not a huge update, this one. All I've done is trudged up Routes 27 and 26, got through Victory Road and reached the Pokemon League. Haven't taken them on yet though, so I won't do long impressions on this update.

Update 7:

I beat the Elite Four!

Will was pretty easy: Pinsir and Mismagius managed to take care of him pretty much between them, with a cameo from Toxicroak who nearly took down Exeggutor in one Poison Jab (he likes a challenge) but then fell to Psychic.

Koga was an absolute cinch, as he always is. Girafarig nailed Ariados. Toxicroak then completely obliterated Forretress with Focus Blast, Omastar took down Crobat and Girafarig finished the rest off.

Bruno was entertainingly easy; Hitmontop has no moves that could hit Mismagius as she has Levitate, so while Hitmontop was Digging his way to complete futility, Mismagius took the opportunity to set up with numerous Charge Beams. By the time Hitmontop went down, Mismagius' Sp.Atk was so ridiculously high that she OHKOd the rest of Bruno's team!

After a timely Max Ether to Charge Beam, I moved onto Karen, who presented more of a problem than she ever has done before - I usually find her quite simple. First of all Toxicroak destroyed Umbreon before he had a chance to Double Team/Confuse. He then took down Murkrow with Nasty Plot/Focus Blast, before Houndoom nailed him and Dragonair AND Pinsir with Nasty Plot/Dark Pulse - some critted. Omastar sorted him out with Surf, before Mismagius swept up Vileplume and Gengar.

Lance was tricky, as ever. I led with Mismagius, who took down Gyarados with Charge Beam in one. Aerodactyl was next, and was somehow even faster than Mismagius, OHKOing her with a crit Crunch before Mismagius could Charge Beam again. Omastar finished Aero off with Surf, but not before Thunder Fang dealt him a bit of damage.

Dragonite1 was next - the one with Thunder. Out went Omastar for Pinsir. He used Rock Tomb to take down Dragonite's Speed but was paralyzed by Thunder Wave; cue an exchange of missed Dragon Rushes and paralysis/missed Rock Tombs before eventually Pinsir succumbed to Thunder. Omastar was back in, and took Dragonite1 down with Ice Beam. Dragonite2 came in afterwards, leading with Dragon Rush against my Dragonair (OHKO) before being murdered in one by Omastar's Ice Beam.

Then came Dragonite3, the really tough one. I switched out Omastar, because I knew if he died my team was screwed. I sent in Girafarig, who sacrificed herself to Full Restore Omastar. I then sent in Toxicroak, who sacrificed most of his health to Max Revive Mismagius, and then went down trying to Poison Jab the dragon. Omastar came back in and OHKOd the bugger with Ice Beam. Charizard was last up, and he used a pathetic Air Slash before being OHKOd by AncientPower.

Hurrah! I was Champion, thanks mainly to Mismagius and Omastar. Next up, Kanto!

The Team:
Spoiler:
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/454.png
Croagunk, Male, Relaxed, Lv.46
Poison Jab, Brick Break, Focus Blast, Nasty Plot
Impressions: Useful, although not as devastating as I'd thought he would be against Karen. Used his high HP to turn the tide against Lance, too.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/139.png
Omastar, Male, Mild, Lv.48
AncientPower, Mud Shot, Ice Beam, Surf
Impressions: Absolutely the MVP of the Elite Four. I'd never have done it without him. He saved me not only against Lance, but also in a tricky situation against Karen's Houndoom.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/429.png
Mismagius, Female, Docile, Lv.48
Confuse Ray, Charge Beam, Shadow Ball, Dark Pulse
Impressions: A close second to Omastar, if only because she didn't do so much against Lance. She solo'd Bruno though, and killed most of Will's team too.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/203.png
Girafarig, Female, Sassy, Lv. 46
Zen Headbutt, Psychic, Crunch, Strength
Impressions: Handy to have around, although outclassed by the above three. Should be useful in Kanto.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/148.png
Dragonair, Male, Adamant, Lv.45
Thunder Wave, Dragon Rush, Aqua Tail, Extremespeed
Impressions: Frankly, did nothing in the Elite Four except die against Lance (perhaps unsurprisingly). Waiting for him to become a Dragonite... only 10 levels...
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/127.png
Pinsir, Male, Quiet, Lv.45
X-Scissor, Swords Dance, Rock Tomb, Brick Break
Impressions: Not as good as I'd hoped. I thought he'd take down Will single-handedly, but I was surprised when he led with Xatu who hurt Pinsir a lot. I then thought he'd do the trick against Karen, but again disappointed.

The biggest update of my life :D

(ITALIAN ROM)

Started the game, named myself Haru, chosen Totodile, then did all the initial stuff.
Catched Grimer (cheat), and grinded him all the way to Violet City.
Then took on Sprout Tower and Violet Gym, not too difficult, thanks to Sludge.

http://i53.*.com/dvh7xu.png

Went through Route 32, 33 and Union Cave, then in Azalea Town.
Found out Team Rocket in Slowpoke Well, and defeated them.
Defeated Bugsy and then our beloved Rival (:D).

http://i51.*.com/15eebrr.png http://i52.*.com/64mlqc.png

Went to Ilex Forest, found a lost Farfetch'd, took him to his trainer and got HM01 Cut in exchange. Then passed through the rest of the forest and Route 34.
Arrived in Goldenrod City, made a quick city, then some training in Routes 35, 36 and National Park.

After all this stuff, we literally crushed Whitney. Too much, she cried. I wonder why...

http://i55.*.com/fk2oht.png

On the road to Ecruteak City, we found our new buddy.

http://i54.*.com/ayalx3.png

Once arrived at the new town, we met Bill, then quickly went on Route 38... two new buddies awaits.

http://i55.*.com/15foshs.png http://i56.*.com/t9infk.png

After a long grinding of all of them, we met, again, the blameless Rival.

http://i56.*.com/o7t7wo.png

Then we awakened the Legendary Dogs, then a man called Eusine appears and thanks us for what we did. Wow.

Wait! Let's do a quick backtracking.

http://i53.*.com/2132igz.png

Ok. Straight on from this, a quick healing, then... Morty.

http://i51.*.com/4r6xbr.png

And the Fog Badge is ours.
Now, on Olivine City! A good training for Scyther...

Once we arrived, Rival strikes again, but this time he won't fight us.
Then we find out that the Gym leader of this city is on the top of the Lighthouse, wondering why. We made it up there, and we found out that the Lighthouse Pokèmon, Amphy. He needs the Secret Potion, findable only in Cianwood City, house of the 5th Gym.
Let's go!

Once we arrived (Scyther did a very good work in Sea Routes), we got the Secret Potion, then we took on the 5th Gym. But first I've something to do.

Back in Olivine, I bought something very very useful, then I took the Secret Potion to Amphy, which is now OK. Jasmine thanks us, then cames back to his Gym.

OK, no time to lose!

I went to the Pokèmon Center, and after that I took on Chuck very easily.
Find out what I bought...

http://i56.*.com/dm5oog.png

Ok, now I want to explore the beach... WTF?

http://i56.*.com/1zq6kj9.png

Woah, that was Suicune... Amazing!
After that, Eusine shows up, saying he wants to fight us. OK!

... Wow, already done? You suck.

Anyway, time to get to Olivine Gym!

OH MY GOD. I can't defeat Janine with these Pokèmon... How?
OK, I must train Totodile, just for this Gym.
Very well! Thanks Feraligatr, you helped us with that ****in Steelix!

http://i54.*.com/2m7i0j7.png

Ok, now we have to travel to Mahogany Town, where the 7th Gym is.
Du da da...
AGAIN?!?

http://i52.*.com/348j1hl.png

OMG! OK, let's go on. :D
Wow, this town sucks. Let's go upper.
Oh, some Trainers! :D

Woah, what is that? A Shiny Gyarados? Well, lets' get rid of this.

http://i54.*.com/34qqu1g.png

Update 8:

After clearing out the S.S. Aqua, I hit Vermilion City, spotting Suicune on the way into town (accompanied by the unavoidable meeting with Eusine... what a tool). I headed straight for Lt. Surge's Gym, which I took down using Dragonair and Dragonair alone. I was very keen to bump him up the levels required to make him a Dragonite, you see. Surge was no problem - he never, ever is - and I moved on Northward to Saffron.

Now Saffron was likely to be a pain. None of my Pokemon at the time had especially good Sp.Def - Mismagius excepted - and none of them had a Psychic resistance. This could therefore have proven to be a tough Gym, so I moved further West to Celadon, which I thought would be a tad easier. I caught a Meowth for Cut purposes, as Pinsir no longer knew it.

I hate the layout of Celadon Gym. I honestly, absolutely hate it. It's impossible to see where you're going, and progressing through the holes in the wall is a monotonous task of walking into every spot until you find the right one. Eurgh. At least the Gym's easy; Dragonair and Toxicroak cleared it out between them, Dragonair learning Dragon Dance and then hitting Lv.55 to become a Dragonite. I taught him Fly and we headed North to Cerulean.

Cerulean was a breeze too. I sorted out the Power Plant, beat up the foreign Rocket and slapped the Nugget Bridge trainers. I then tonked the Gym trainers and laid the smack down on Misty. Pinsir and Toxicroak handled the main brunt of the Gym Battle, although Mismagius finished off Starmie.

As I now had a few levels more to my name (not to mention a new Dragonite) I headed back to Saffron to take on Sabrina. This time, the Espeon that could have caused me trouble before went down in one to Dragonite's Dragon Rush, and the rest was a process of spamming Girafarig's Crunch until Alakazam could no longer be Full Restored. Honourable mention goes to Pinsir for nailing Mr. Mime.

So that's where I am: halfway through Kanto already, with my team now fully evolved.

The Team:
Spoiler:
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/454.png
Toxicroak, Male, Relaxed, Lv.51
Poison Jab, Brick Break, Sludge Bomb, Nasty Plot
Impressions: I've just realised my updates have named him as Croagunk the whole time, despite the fact he's been a Toxicroak for a while now. He's my favourite Pokemon on this team (shhh, don't tell the others) even if he's not strictly the best (shhh, don't tell him). Ever reliable, especially now Sludge Bomb has replaced the erratic Focus Blast, fun as it was.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/139.png
Omastar, Male, Mild, Lv.50
AncientPower, Mud Shot, Ice Beam, Surf
Impressions: He's taken a bit more of a back seat since his Elite Four killing spree, but he's still an absolute beast when called upon. He has amazing type coverage with his moveset, and his Sp.Atk can give any opponent Pokemon cause for serious concern.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/429.png
Mismagius, Female, Docile, Lv.51
Confuse Ray, Charge Beam, Shadow Ball, Dark Pulse
Impressions: The same as ever here. She hits hard and fast, and if she's hit she goes down just as hard and fast. Luckily she's very rarely hit, seeing as her foes are usually down before they get a chance. It's also worth mentioning that she levels up REALLY fast...
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/203.png
Girafarig, Female, Sassy, Lv. 51
Zen Headbutt, Psychic, Crunch, Strength
Impressions: She's taken an unexpected upswing in form after the Erika battle. She was fading a tad due to her stats being so much lower than the rest, but Crunch has turned into a real lifesaver. Impressively she single-handedly (hoofedly) decimated Sabrina's Alakazam, despite the massive BST and level difference.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/149.png
Dragonite, Male, Adamant, Lv.55
Dragon Dance, Dragon Rush, Waterfall, Fly
Impressions: ...And just like that, everything changed. As soon as he became a Dragonite, all my previous annoyances with his inconsistency vanished. Even though he looks retarded (PLEASE GAMEFREAK DESIGN AN ALTERNATE DRAGONAIR EVO!! Preferably Sp.Atk based...) you can't argue with his power. He'll almost certainly be the difference that makes me win against Red.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/127.png
Pinsir, Male, Quiet, Lv.50
X-Scissor, Swords Dance, Rock Tomb, Brick Break
Impressions: To complete the update, here's the third Pokemon who's suddenly undergone a massive improvement. Pinsir made up for his disappointing Elite Four showing with a barnstorming couple of fights against Misty and Sabrina; Golduck, Mr. Mime and just about every trainer between Saffron, Cerulean and Celadon can testify as to how hard this Bug hits.

Enjoy! I'll be updating again soon - recently I've been concentrating on my Pearl Nuzlocke run but I've had a bad day on that so I'll probably move back to this Challenge for a while.

torcoal November 28th, 2010 2:10 PM

Alright, I'll start this up real soon.

Sammuthegreat November 28th, 2010 3:50 PM

Update 9:

Just a quick update, like I say I've been playing my Pearl Nuzlocke run recently. I played my Ones that Got Away Challenge a bit earlier though, and this is what I did.

I moved West from Celadon down Cycling Road, clearing out all the trainers. When I hit Fuschia City I headed straight for the Gym and kicked Janine's arse, using Girafarig and (for comedy value) Toxicroak, despite his moves' ineffectiveness. I then headed East back up towards Lavender to take on the trainers there and even out my team's levels.

The Team:
Spoiler:
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/454.png
Toxicroak, Male, Relaxed, Lv.54
Poison Jab, Brick Break, Sludge Bomb, Nasty Plot
Impressions: A rounded moveset has given Toxicroak the final push he needed. He's now a Grade-A ass-kicker, even taking down Pokemon he should barely be able to scratch due to type mismatches, and kicking the snot out of them after a couple of Nasty Plots.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/139.png
Omastar, Male, Mild, Lv.54
AncientPower, Mud Shot, Ice Beam, Surf
Impressions: I've come to the conclusion that Omastars are a dream to raise. I barely seem to use him in comparison to Pokemon like Pinsir or (before) Dragonair, but he never seems to drop behind in level. I've realised that's because he OHKOs most opposition without even blinking, and he levels up quickly too.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/429.png
Mismagius, Female, Docile, Lv.54
Confuse Ray, Charge Beam, Shadow Ball, Dark Pulse
Impressions: Like Omastar but even more extreme. She levels up ridiculously fast, and hits just as hard as Omastar. The only downside is that when opponents get a hit in - most often with Sucker Punch (hate that move) - she takes a fair old bit of damage.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/203.png
Girafarig, Female, Sassy, Lv. 54
Zen Headbutt, Psychic, Crunch, Strength
Impressions: I was expecting Girafarig to fade sadly into the background, but partly due to her awesome type combo and partly because she's just so rounded stats-wise, she's still a real staple of many battles.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/149.png
Dragonite, Male, Adamant, Lv.55
Dragon Dance, Dragon Rush, Waterfall, Fly
Impressions: I haven't used him since Update 8, because I've been evening out my team's levels to match his.
http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/127.png
Pinsir, Male, Quiet, Lv.54
X-Scissor, Swords Dance, Rock Tomb, Brick Break
Impressions: Pinsir spends the most time at the front of my party - not because he's my favourite, but because he takes twice as much XP to raise as any other team member. He's got to the stage now though where he can take down pretty much any opponent, especially after a Swords Dance or two - as a few Weezing on Cycling Road can testify.

PsychoJigglypuff November 28th, 2010 7:44 PM

Okay! Time for a short first update! Rather image heavy.

Spoiler:
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/3760/pj1.png
I arrived at my new house, in a rather uncomfortable position. I then proceeded to set my clock, and get my complimentary potion and all that jazz. Once I'm done my Mom starts yelling something about my dad on TV or something. That's when I realized...
http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/4472/pj2y.png
But that was just a waste of time, so I went over to the neighbor's house to say hello. And of course, my neighbor is some annoyingly perky kid.
http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/6955/pj3j.png
He was a weirdo, so I went to see his dad, but as I was walking I could hear screams of terror coming from the woods. I followed them until I saw some guy in a lab coat being chased by a Zigzagoon.
http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/5245/pj4.png
It was pitiful, so I decided to help him out.
http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/2397/pj5.png
Turns out, he was the Professor and the perky kid's dad. Oh boy. So he gives me the Treeko as a gift. How nice. Then he asked me to find his kid for him. Geez, what an irresponsible dad.

I find the kid at the end of the path. He's as perky as ever. He immediately wants to fight me.
http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/5493/pj6.png
I kick his butt. Then he drags me back to the lab, where his dad gives me some Pokeballs and a Pokedex. Good, now I can really get out of here. They shouldn't bother me anymore. I hope. As soon as I leave, I see my mom, and while she goes off on some long speech on how I'm becoming so much like my dad, I take the Running Shoes and get out.
http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/7738/pj7.png
First thing I do is catch a Poochyena.
http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/6922/pj8.png
Then I proceeded to grind Nyx to level 5, then boxed the Treeko, because it reminded me of those annoying guys. Sorry, dude. Afterwards, I caught a Wingull. Which I also grinded to level 5.

PsychoJigglypuff December 3rd, 2010 5:47 PM

Well, I don't have enough time to make a super long update, so I'm gonna make things abridged-ish.

Update #2:
Spoiler:
So yeah, I go to visit my dad, but some random kid with ridiculous hair comes in.
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/8510/pj10.png
And he just goes out and catches a Ralts. I wanted one too. I thought it shouldn't be too hard, considering how quickly he did it.
http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/8197/pj11.png
2 hours later...
http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/8301/pj12.png
But I finally managed to catch one.
http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/3135/pj13.png
Then some other stuff happens and I find some generic guy and a thug in the woods.
http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/7291/pj14.png
So I beat him up. And the guy is oh so grateful so he gives me a Great Ball. Thanks. More stuff happens and I fight the first Gym! Sebastian pretty much owned the entire gym.
http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/2870/pj15.png
Pretty easy victory.
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/5339/pj16.png
Of course as soon as I leave, another thug runs off with something. And somehow I have to find him and get them back.
http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/232/pj17.png
I make my way to the tunnel and find the thug with some random goods and a Wingull.
http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/4976/pj18.png
I kick his butt, and return the bird and the goods.
http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/769/pj20.png
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/3347/pj19.png
Now I have to deliver the goods and give a letter to someone. Do I look like a servant, why so many errands from people? Well at least I don't have to deal with that perky ki-
http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/7365/pj21.png
FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU-
So I kick his butt again. And find that weird old sailor to see if he could give me a ride to the island.
http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/6302/pj22.png
After I arrived, I took advantage of the fact there was a Gym and challenged it. Also a piece of cake, mostly thanks to Manly.
http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/6086/pj23.png
Surprisingly, Nyx was pretty useful against Brawly...
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/8504/pj24.png
Untouchable. Well only against Meditite, but whatever.
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/1474/pj25.png
And I did some more stuff after that such as deliver the letter and go to Slateport but I'm to lazy to say anything about it.
