What kind of nickname are you, how do you represent the Pokémon you do~

By now, some of you may have played through the games and already caught many Pokémon. For now, I'm not interested in what your team is or how many you've caught; but what you've named them. Considering B/W has quite a diverse range of Pokémon, there are many nicknames you can come up with. Before you respond, be aware that there is a thread in Pokémon General Gaming, asking why you nickname Pokémon in general, if you want to discuss that, then do so in that thread - this thread is only based on what you've nicknamed certain B/W Pokémon. - or plan to nickname.

Now, what are some of the most interesting names you've named your B/W Pokémon? Have you maybe called something a certain way because you dislike its Japanese name and you prefer the fan-made name? Or maybe another reason? If you haven't played the games, what do you plan to nickname certain Pokemon? Maybe call Victini "victory" because it represents that? Or are you planning to name certain Pokémon based on someone you know what you think represents that Pokémon? Alternatively, you could just give them a Syd nickname.

Boarbeque October 11th, 2010 6:39 PM

I name them actual names like Jared, Tom or Sally etc.,

Livewire October 11th, 2010 6:50 PM

I have a bunch of planned nick-names. For starters, I plan on naming my bachura after you, tbh. xD

I have more epic names picked out, these are some Ive thought of.
http://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/618.png
Maggyo will become Flounderp.

http://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/568.pnghttp://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/569.png
This will become Garbagemon until I think of something more creative.

Whenever I catch one of these, It will either be dubbed Dairy Queen or Baskin Robbins. xD

80's. For the 80's disco. I havent caught one yet but I'm in the route I think they appear in.

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/1/10/Spr_5b_579.png
Bloby. It's a floating blob.

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/0/08/Spr_5b_531.png
Medic. It's the healer Pokemon.

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/55/501.png

Clam. Look at the body.

I also might make a joke team with themed names. One I made was a joke team of a bunch of Machamp. "We will", "Own You", "Because", "We", "Rock". It was a joke team with all the exact same stats and movesets. The sixth member of that team was "MACHAMP" the Hitmontop.

Bay October 11th, 2010 7:33 PM

Usually I name my Pokemon after my fanfic characters, but this time I might go for an anime/manga theme this time. Already named my Pokemon after Fullmetal Alchemist characters in Emerald, so I might go for Black Cat for B/W. Pretty much this is how I'll name my planned Pokemon team:

http://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/503.png
Train, because he's the main character in Black Cat and this guy is my starter. :P

http://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/553.png
Sven, only because of the Pokemon looking cool with glasses. :P

http://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/523.png
Eve, because it's a pretty name and this Pokemon is pretty.

http://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/620.png
Jenos, because this Pokemon is very fierce.

http://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/567.png
Creed, only because this Pokemon looks crazy, haha.

http://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/609.png
Kyoko, because the character can use fire attacks, and this Pokemon is a fire type, so yeah. :P

Surmonter October 12th, 2010 2:40 AM

I don't nickname Pokemon. :P

Except one (family).

Nickname: Gaga

It's the Lady Gaga of Pokemon. :D

Ravecat October 12th, 2010 3:33 AM

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/593.png
Lear
Because he is royalty, and obviously a king, which reminds me of Shakespeare's King Lear. The ghost typing influences this also, not that Lear is ever a ghost but because of the themes of the entire play.

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/shiny/623.png
Megazord
Named after Power Rangers! :D

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/558.png
Nathaniel
I had a hermit crab named Nathaniel, who was named after Nathaniel from War of the Worlds. I also had Beth and The Journalist, so if it was a girl it would be Beth, and I might just call it Journalist anyway.

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/601.png
Clockwork
Obvious reasons, I would think.

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/565.png
Terrorpin
Because he's a turtle, but he is scary. :3

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/579.png
Jellol
Named after a fakemon I created; the two don't really share any features besides the fact they're jelly-like.

Mew~ October 12th, 2010 3:39 AM

I always nickname my starters somthing like one of there powefullest moves, I called my Typlosion in SS Eruption and I want to change my Daikenki's name to HydroCannon but on the japanese game theres not enough space for the letters so ima wait for it to be released here :)

PlatinumDude October 12th, 2010 4:43 PM

Here are some nicknames I thought up for some of the Isshu Pokemon (though I may not use any of them):

Emboar: Porky (after Porky Pig from Looney Tunes)

Daikenki: Kenshi/Battousai (after the main character in Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X)

Muurando: Sugar (after my sister's dog)

Yanakki: Elvis (after Elvis Presley because he has Elvis' hairdo)

Kenhorou: RoadRunner (after the Roadrunner in Looney Tunes)

Zeburaika: Marty (after the zebra in the Madagascar movies)

Gigaiasu: Chromastone (after the alien in Ben 10: Alien Force)

Doryuuzu: Grand Mole (after Neo-Spacian Grand Mole from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX)

Zuruzukin: Eminem (after the rapper/singer because both look gangster)

Desukan: Ramses (after the Egyptian pharaoh)

Abagoora: Crush (after the Finding Nemo character)

Rankurusu: Gummy Bear (it looks like one!)

Shikijika/Mebukijika: Bambi (after the Disney character)

Shubarugo: Lancelot (because it's based on a knight)

Shandera: Skellington (after Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas)

Agirudaa: Kakashi (after the Naruto character because their faces are hidden)

More to come.

Zurukuzin shall be named!!! "Lookin' like a foo' wit yo pants on the ground"

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire October 12th, 2010 4:54 PM

What a odd title, I think the grammar is off...What Nickname are you, lol, oh sorry I just had to say this
Now for nicknames:
Tsutarja: Ivyss (Sounds like Abyss and has ivy in it :) )
Pokabu: Poka (short for Pokabu )
Majimaru: Nami if it's a female (I want a female one) or Umi if Male (They both mean Sea in Japanese)
I still have to think of more...

Arc October 12th, 2010 5:25 PM

Since, I have full team down. Nicknames have all been given to them, so now I will present these Five-letter nicknames.

Jaroda = Smug- Everyone should know why he is named this.

Hihidaruma = Poop- Look at the Pokedex information for Darumakka, then you will get it.

Doryuuzu = DRILL- Originally I was supposed to have a Gigaiasu named GIGA, along with a other Pokemon named BREAK, so put those together and get GIGA DRILL BREAK.

Abagora = Elder- Elder Turtle, not original blah blah blah.

Denchura = 4Ever- Named this little girl after Forever, because Forever loves Denchura.

Sazando = High- Little dumb name, the name is supposed to make fun that this guy evolves to his final stage at Level 64.

http://pokejungle.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/576.png Lady Gaga is my planned nickname as she can be a male.

http://pokejungle.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/574.pngBrittany.. Thought it up on the spot. Cute name for a cute pokemon.

Jarooda shall be called "Empress" Because she is a royal pokemon.

fenyx4 October 12th, 2010 10:35 PM

Hmm...as of right now, here are my planned nicknames for some Generation V Pokemon:

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/db/Spr_5b_500.png
Enbuoo - Razorback. Alternate name for a boar. I decided on this and finalized it long ago when Pokabu was first revealed.

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/53/Spr_5b_503.png
Daikenki - I'm still undecided. Maybe Samurotter or Daikenki...

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/shiny/497.png
Jaroda - Poison Ivy (Poison implies a threat, and ivy...is ivy, I guess.)

Monkey trio - Oakey, Soakey, and Smokey. They sound so cute! :) Courtesy of BleuVII

Might nickname the garbage Pokemon Garbagiga, still undecided... Courtesy of #Emochu.

Here some other names I might use should they not turn out as actual English names:

I've been browsing one of the Bulbagarden threads, and came across these proposed English names (I'm limiting myself from most of the Pokemon, so I can't post their Japanese names. But they shouldn't be too hard to figure out...)

Baboom - fire monkey (Hihidaruma or pre-evo)
Orangubang - fire monkey (Hihidaruma or pre-evo)
Arachtric - electric spider (Denchura or pre-evo)
Thorantula -
electric spider (Denchura)
Crocodune
- ground gator/croc (Meguroko)
Sarcophaghoul
- sarcophagus (Desukan)

I would LOL if I ever heard a Pokemon Stadium announcer say "It's ORANGUBANG!" It's very fun to say as well! :cer_laugh:

Sarcophaghoul seems to exceed the current 10-character name limit; the only alternatives I can develop would be Sarcofagul or Sarcophagl... But those detract a bit from the original awesomeness of "Sarcophaghoul"...

Here's the aforementioned Bulbagarden thread:

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/shiny/632.png
Iront/Aianto - possibly Antantium. Courtesy of elarmasecreta.

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/5e/Spr_5b_625.png
Kirikizan - possibly Huricanger/Huracanger (reference to Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger). Always wanted to use that name in some context.

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/621.png
Crimgan - possibly SkulDrache (means 'skull dragon', as it seems to have rib-like structures on its abdomen).

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/a/a2/Spr_5b_587.png
Emonga - possibly Sparky

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/5d/Spr_5b_612.png
Ononokusu - Battle-Axe or Axehead; most likely the first one due to the axe-shaped tusks. Something with the word "axe" in it, for sure.

Not nicknaming any of the legendaries, AFAIK right now.

~LOL at the thread title reference...!

Destiny. October 13th, 2010 1:25 AM

The problem with naming Miji Sadface is that it loses it's sad face...unlike Smugleaf who keeps it's smile all the way though the last form has a monaliza like smile...

Hm let's see now

http://pokejungle.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/497.png
Grapevine no clue where the name came from but I used it on my japanese Jalorda and I'm gonna use it on this one

http://pokejungle.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/500.png
Boargatoy the Purgatory of the Boar

http://pokejungle.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/503.png
Searial I wanted to have Sea and Spiral in his name but it didn't work out without me switching the letters around

http://pokejungle.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/553.png
Baryovial based from the Baryonyx and the Gavial both of which seem to be inspiration for Waruvial

http://pokejungle.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/571.png
This thing could break into peoples worst Nightmare's if he wants to

http://pokejungle.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/612.png
Judgement I have less of a reason for this name than I do for getting a Jalorda and naming Grapevine

http://pokejungle.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/620.png
Spirit just has that spiritual feel to it

http://pokejungle.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/625.png
Katana it can slice things with almost any part of it's body and I simply love that

Lots of people seem to use Lady Gaga for these three, lmao.
But names that I see fit would be something like Lollipop. :P

http://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/498.pnghttp://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/499.png
I'm sure almost everyone will use Porky for Pokabu... and I was going to too, but I think Hammy looks better, especially for Pokabu's second evolution (which I previously hated ><)
http://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/509.pnghttp://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/510.png
The only name that I think fits these Pokemon is Violet. It just...looks right. ^^'
http://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/543.pnghttp://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/544.pnghttp://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/545.png
Oh how I adore this line...<3 Rugby seems to be the best name for them, IMO. :3
http://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/547.png
Omgomgomgomgomg, the best Grass type in Gen 5~
I don't know why, but when I see this Pokemon, I automatically think...Caramel. <3
http://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/607.pnghttp://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/608.pnghttp://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/609.png
A name that best fits this line for me is definitely Ebony. It looks good on them. :>
http://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/629.pnghttp://floatzel.net/pokemon/black-white/sprites/images/630.png
<33333333333 Freakin... AWESOME.
ANYWAYS, the best name for them would be, like...Velma or something, lmao.
It's just that when I look at the final evolution, Velma is what comes to mind. x3

And those are the nicknames I see that fit best for my favorite 5th gen pokes. :>

JP October 13th, 2010 2:48 PM

Well lets see,

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/612.png
I named this guy Drago. I think it's obvious why.

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/500.png
Feu, which is "fire" in French.

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/555-unblue.png
Daru, just seemed to fit considering it's in its Japanese name.

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/553.png
Darko, it's a Dark type...Darko sounded cool haha.

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/604.png
Tryda, which is a word in a different language... I can't remember which word nor the language. XD What I did for quite a few of my Pokemon is used a word that represents them in some way and translated it into a different language.

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/619.png
Named this one Pooh, from Winnie the Pooh haha.

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/621.png
Dreko, part of "Dragon" in another language.

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/622.png
Vaerg, if I remember right that was "Guardian" in another language.

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/633.png
Heima, which is "at home" in Icelandic. For some reason, reminded me of Iceland and Sigur Ros, and I thought it'd be a suitable name. :P

http://veekun.com:81/dex/media/black-white/523.png
Zebua, a bit of a reworked version of it's name's first few letters in Japanese, thought it sounded cool.
--------
There's quite a few others but I don't feel like listing them all. :P

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire October 13th, 2010 3:03 PM

I'm naming my Ononokuso Drake after the E4 member of Hoenn and it's also dragon in a another language(I think German or some sort of Northern Europe language).

Astinus October 13th, 2010 7:58 PM

I've nicknamed all my Pokemon in Black, and I'll go through a few that I can explain.

Like "Penny" the Shimama. I nicknamed her that because of her Electric typing, and if she was male, I would have named her "Bolt". Since she's female, I went with a female character from the same movie, and so Penny.

There's also my Dageki, named "Blue". That was the only name I could think of at the time, because of its skin color. Then I realized that Dageki looks like my manager at work, so I'm going to change Blue's nickname to match my manager.

When I get White in English, my Pokemon are going to have the nicknames that I give my main Pokemon on all my games since FireRed. "Andrew" for my Mijumaru, "Ender" for my Tsutarja, and "Angel" for my Meguroco. It's just something that I do, and I don't plan on changing that tradition. I don't know about the rest of my team, but those three are planned on being on it.
