do you proof read your posts?

I always tell myself I'm going to start proof reading my posts, but by the time I've finished my next post it's almost instinctual for me to just click 'Submit Post'. I tend to have to go back and edit it manually which I hate because it leaves 'Edited By..', which I realize is completely trivial but it'll never fail to get under my skin.

Percy Thrillington October 14th, 2010 12:24 PM

I have enough faith in my language skills to not feel the need to check if I have typos.

Cold Fusion October 14th, 2010 12:24 PM

I tend to write posts and make many mistakes, because of it, I've become a person who re-reads to make sure every sentence makes sense and there isn't a large typo that is extremely noticeable. It's a habit that will never die hard. After I have posted it, I also read through it once again then edit any as fast as I can if mistakes are made as it does irritate me if there "Edited By..." at the bottom of the post. If I know there's not enough time normally I leave it, but if it bugs me I just have to suck up the edited by and do it anyway.

SIN1488 October 14th, 2010 12:38 PM

Yes, though sometimes I won't spot some tiny mistake, and later on I'll go read an old thread that I made a post in and catch it, then edit it. :P

And other times, even though I usually read over my post once or twice, I sometimes spot a mistake while waiting for it to post, and then I quickly edit it when the page loads again.

I learned a lot from this one site that would ban you for bad grammar and spelling, as you have to learn or be banned. :P

Edit: Also, you forgot to capitalize the first word in the title....... :o

Alice October 14th, 2010 12:43 PM

I proof read all of my posts 10 times over, and half of the time I end up actually deciding not to post it.

Melody October 14th, 2010 12:45 PM

I do proofread them every time, editing my post immediately to correct errors I didn't see while I was composing it.

Just leave me behind, Captain..

I try to proofread posts often, but occasionally errors remain. Other times I have a change in thought and want to change word choice or something. So I constantly have to click the "Edit" button, it seems. I probably only have 1 to 2 posts where I didn't have to edit them. Even if it's a few days later, if I spot an error in a post, I tend to fix it... :cer_laugh:

The "Edited By" notice doesn't really bother me, unless the time differences are extreme (i.e., message posted on Tuesday afternoon, edited on Friday evening)...

I saw this before it was edited, what a strange edit...... :O

But yes, Captain Grammar Enthusiast is here. :D

Timbjerr October 14th, 2010 1:36 PM

Of gcourse, if I sdiopn;t go back and prooof read and corredct any typeos I makes, you'll end up with posts that look like this and nobody wants that. D:

[EDIT] It's funny how I intentionally left my typos in this post, but it's significantly more obvious in the first half of that sentence than that second half. XD

Charizard★ October 14th, 2010 2:33 PM

For some reason I proofread after I post them, then go change it if needed. :3

Captain Hobo. October 14th, 2010 2:59 PM

I sometimes do, but not always.

So I will make some errors.

PlatinumDude October 14th, 2010 7:42 PM

I don't always proofread my posts, but I only edit them only if I accidentally leave something out.

Kenshin5 October 14th, 2010 7:44 PM

Rarely do I proof read. I usually read through it after the fact and make alternations to noticeable changes.

A Pixy October 14th, 2010 7:46 PM

Depends on how long, if it's short, like this, I'll probably look at it once.

If it's INCREDIBLY long like MY HALO REACH REVIEW YOU SHOULD ALL READ other posts, than I'll look over them dozens of time. n_n

redsaber5859 October 14th, 2010 7:53 PM

^same with pixy XD

I usually look over long ones multiple times

professor plum October 14th, 2010 8:10 PM

I often do so to make sure my point was made, and I didn't sound silly. I often reword/rewrite posts completely if I don't find them sufficient.

Livewire October 14th, 2010 8:16 PM

My Firefox makes the corrections for me, when and if I make them. But I still proof-read to make sure the post flows and makes some sort of sense. xD

King Gumball October 14th, 2010 9:15 PM

Gosh I always forget to re-read my posts. And I usually have to edit my posts to fix typos. Occasionally I word phrases incorrectly and need to change to whole post >.<

AshPikastar October 14th, 2010 9:30 PM

I usually always proof read my post but then once I submit I miss something in my post so I would have to fix it again. I think I'm going to have re-read my post three times instead of twice.

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ October 15th, 2010 7:22 AM

I usually proofread at least once or twice. My keyboard is such that typos appear out of nowhere :/

Zebeedoo October 15th, 2010 7:24 AM

I look over my post only once before posting. :X Then after I post, I read over it a second time and edit/add anything I feel is necessary.

...forgot to include that the edited thingie doesn't bother me. xD;

I do this as well, no idea why because it means it puts that little "edited" line underneath the post all the time. But I will often change my mind about a certain sentence whilst I'm rereading it after posting it.

Nick October 15th, 2010 7:51 AM

Most of the times I proofread my posts and then listen to them with text to speech to check if it flows well.

dragoniteuser October 15th, 2010 7:58 AM

IMO anyone who's native language isn't english should check what they write as they don't write instictively like those who's native language is english...
Mistakes happen to everyone, and everyone hates to read bad grammar!
I'm Croatian, but I speak and write english fluently... that still doesn't mean I can write any way I want to and not make any typos!
*I've just checked this post and it was flawless! I'm still gonna check the next one I write!*
