Oracle of Ages & Seasons

Come on, Best Zelda's out of the series for handhelds.

Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons.

All time favorite gb/gbc game.

amirite?

Garouga! Bare Your Fangs! October 15th, 2010 3:48 AM

Meh, they were okay. I started losing my passion for them when I got stuck on Ages for 2 months and I realized you can get a better sword in Seasons really early. The former was just disappointing, while the latter cheapened the whole experience. Plus there were the annoying rings, and that stupid witch who only seemed to appear on the most difficult map areas. All in all, they rank at a 7/10 with me.

Syrex October 15th, 2010 4:21 AM

Which of the handheld zelda's did you think was the best?

Garouga! Bare Your Fangs! October 15th, 2010 4:29 AM

Handheld? The Minish Cap. It was a lot more appealing than most of the other ones, and there was some thought put into the bosses and how to beat them.

Cello October 15th, 2010 4:32 AM

I don't know exactly what it is about all of the handheld Zelda games but I absolutely love them. Oddly enough, all of the ones I like, Capcom worked on them in conjunction with Nintendo too.

Crazy.

The only ones I don't like are the DS games and that 4 swords adventure game.

TRIFORCE89 October 15th, 2010 5:08 AM

I preferred Ages over Seasons because its more puzzle-based. Whereas Seasons is focused more on the battles.

Both are nothing compared to Link's Awakening and The Minish Cap. Best 2D Zelda games.

Link's Awakening. It had the Bucket Mouse. But more importantly, it's a great game.

Every time Capcom worked with them, the last boss in the game was ridiculous and had many parts to it. >_<

But that's what made them challenging and fun. :D

I think the best handheld Zelda game was Link's Awakening DX, too bad I lost the cartridge. :(

After that one, I agree about the Minish cap, and it was cool how you could learn those different attacks from the sword-masters.

And that's only if we aren't counting the DS games, as I liked those ones a lot. :D

Seasons is the best Zelda period, imo. Largely because of it's ability to combine with ages to form the ultimate fighting machine... I mean game.

A Pixy October 15th, 2010 6:44 PM

I've always thought Zelda's combat was really good.

An entire game around that?

YES PL0X.

Vulpes bicaudata October 15th, 2010 7:55 PM

Combat shmombat (wombat). The puzzles are what matter.

Syrex October 16th, 2010 4:16 AM

That's why I liked ages.

I enjoyed the puzzles!

I started replaying it a few days ago and really, it was much harder and entertaining than Spirit Tracks. They should go back to the old map style instead of insisting on the incredibly linear system we have nowadays. We used to walk around collecting hints to know where to go, now it's "You have to go to THIS place, beat the dungeon, and then we'll clearly tell you where to go".

Agreed!

The old map style was the best.

A NON-LINEAR PROGRESSION?

Now you're making it hard for me. ;_;

I know, I'll play both. n_n

It's still linear (dungeon A comes before dungeon B), but with a difference: when you beat a dungeon, you are given a hint of where to go. Now it's up to you to find out what to do with the dungeon item you just got and to check the new events you have unlocked.

In the later games though, when you beat a dungeon, you get a map update where you can clearly see where to go, not to mention that the handful of characters around said zone will unmistakeably tell you where to go. And not like you need to solve specially complex puzzles to enter it, most of them only require you to get to the end of a path or tallk to the people in a town.

That's how you make a game lose part of its charm by messing up the map system. Same goes for the dungeons: nowadays you can get all the items in a floor before moving on to the second floor for the first time. What?

There is smaller game store chain in Edmonton called Game City. I noticed a few weeks ago they sell these two used for 50 dollars (Canadian) each.

I had Seasons when they were released but was not used to Zelda games so gave up on the game. Don't even recall what became of my copy.

Void1 November 16th, 2010 4:55 AM

Defenetly the best of the handheld ones, two of the best in the whole series actually!

Shiny Gardevoir November 20th, 2010 10:10 AM

Haven't played that, though I do have a guidebook...
It looks good XD.
