Photoshop Q & A

Here, post questions about photoshop, and get them answered here! (also ask about any other program XD) I can answer almost any question, cause i know how to do almost anything on photoshop and i've been doing it for a LONG time. also anyone else can answer the questions.

Logmon1 November 27th, 2004 4:28 PM

Whwe can you get a free downloed of photoshop?

Sawyer November 27th, 2004 5:56 PM

you can't download Photoshop for free. you have to buy the software.

ryan November 27th, 2004 6:01 PM

*cough* limewire *cough cough*

Sawyer November 27th, 2004 6:04 PM

is Limewire illegal? well, i have a mac, so i have to buy the software... mac's Photoshop is better though... i suggest buying it

ryan November 27th, 2004 6:23 PM

i think it may be legal... but the question wasn't where can i download photoshop legaly was it? and i'd much rather use an illegal version on a PC than buy an expensive mac, and an expensive peice of software.

Cherrim November 27th, 2004 7:00 PM

Photoshop Elements all the way. =x It's cheaper and does basically everything Photoshop does. x3

We should probably have a sticky in here with links to PS (and PSP) tutorials. o_O

Sawyer November 27th, 2004 7:30 PM

oooo ooooo me me! www.good-tutorials.com that's the best tutorial site ever!

ravenstorture November 27th, 2004 7:35 PM

I just thought I would drop in to say, that I agree with Erica. Photoshop Elements is cheaper and is great. And yes, Limewire is illegal, because of course you can download music, which is illegal, on it. Any program that has the capability to download movies, or music without having to pay is most likely illegal.

Sawyer November 27th, 2004 7:38 PM

yeah, i was gonna get PSE, but i got Final Cut Pro and i have to wait a while to get more software... it's a lot like normal Photoshop right?

AZSupraT November 28th, 2004 10:19 AM

go to suprnova.org search for photoshop, they will have Photoshop w/a serial number there

ryan November 28th, 2004 3:48 PM

well, isn't that somewhat illegal? (not that i haven't done the same thing with my version from limewire)

Undertaker the Deadman November 28th, 2004 4:07 PM

So that means I could use Kazaa and search for it and download it? Cool!! I'm going to try!

Sawyer November 30th, 2004 7:48 AM

... Undertaker, there's a thing called computer bugs XD and it takes like 27 hours to download XD (depends on your computer) anyways... i dunno if this makes sense, but what about a banner contest?

Spectrum November 30th, 2004 8:19 AM

Hey! I had the same idea. xD

Sawyer November 30th, 2004 8:32 PM

if we have a banner contest, i think FG, MoonLight, and PSB should be the judges, and i'll enter it... then we'll have someone make the graphic trophy XD

AZSupraT November 30th, 2004 8:43 PM

Ide love to enter a contest also :)

Composer of Requiems December 1st, 2004 12:35 AM

I don't really like elements... doesn't seem as good as Photoshop...

Sawyer December 4th, 2004 4:53 PM

we should get some mods to help organize a graphic arts contest. ^^,

PokemonChampion2K4 January 5th, 2005 8:40 PM

hey AC How do you get those back-grounds for the banners?

Sawyer January 5th, 2005 8:57 PM

Dragonfree January 11th, 2005 7:41 AM

Is there anything cool that works in Photoshop 6.0?

Sawyer January 11th, 2005 7:45 AM

yeah, i suppose. you can do object renders that you can't do in 7.0... :\ i use 7.0, but i need to get CS.

katty January 12th, 2005 5:38 PM

the cheapest phtosohop is like 200 bucks
you can also get elements, which costs $50, and adobe share have plug-ins to make it work more like photoshop.
A list of resource sites:
pixel2life.com
good-tutorials.com
greycobra.com

here is a bunch of other resource sites.
http://www.pixel2life.com/affiliates.php

the basics of photoshop are how to make mackgrounds, define brushes and patterns, use styles and actions, and the tools.

Insanity January 12th, 2005 5:41 PM

If you want to download Photoshop for free... just go to a torrent site and download one with a crack.

tiger44 January 18th, 2005 6:07 PM

Sawyer January 18th, 2005 7:12 PM

Demonic Angel January 18th, 2005 7:53 PM

Animation Shop is the animation program that comes with Paint Shop Pro. No idea what Tiger44's post was about, except downloading something and animation shop... O.o

EVA-01 January 24th, 2005 3:38 AM

Yay ^^;; I just got Photoshop CS8 for free, how much does it normally cost...?

Demonic Angel January 24th, 2005 3:44 AM

According to photoshop.com it normally costs US$649.00. o.o;

Sawyer January 24th, 2005 7:34 AM

EVA-01 January 24th, 2005 6:07 PM

RanboM January 25th, 2005 3:19 PM

Sawyer February 1st, 2005 8:24 AM

same thing here, Star Arion. i try to use my dad's disk version on a computer that HAS the software, i enter the serial number, and it gives me this message that's completely blank, with a big exclamation mark at the top. oO

loony February 18th, 2005 6:46 AM

uuh a question i got some photoshop plugins will they work for only one version or for every version of photoshop?

Sawyer February 18th, 2005 3:17 PM

well, if the plugins are for 7, it'll work for 8, and so on. so, it'll work for it's own program, and anything higher, i think. ^^

loony February 19th, 2005 11:30 PM

and there is a limit for it i try to input 1700 plugins in photoshop cs and its giving me a error or i putt it in the wrong map i which map do i have to put it in:P

Sawyer March 19th, 2005 8:09 AM

okay, first of all, no double posting. read the rules. second, i'm sure most of us know about these cracks, but i don't need 'studio mx' because i have a Mac. i'm getting Bryce, which is a much better program than studio mx.

Terminatorak March 20th, 2005 3:19 AM

am i in trouble? :'( please dont tell me i am im sorry for double posting :'(

Nino March 20th, 2005 7:52 AM

no ur not just stop double posting and spamming

Sawyer March 20th, 2005 10:33 AM

okay, Nino, you're seriously crossing the line. you were fine when you joined, but now, you sound even MORE like Ebonix. the kid didn't do anything wrong except double post, and you've been a member since february, have 67 posts, and are not nearly dedicated enough to order anyone around. thank you, come again.
P.S. i hope i don't get any bad rep for this

charmanderflame March 22nd, 2005 10:22 AM

Sawyer March 22nd, 2005 4:18 PM

Sylver April 17th, 2005 7:34 AM

Guys, where can I get tabled layout sketches for Photoshop? I've searched Google but didn't find anything, searched in Yahoo the same thing. Please help me!

Sawyer April 17th, 2005 8:03 AM

uhh... at PC, you can check in the Webmaster Resources section. i know a really good layout maker named scolari... i'm really good friends with him and taught him how to use PS. maybe i could get him to help you out?

Shinin April 22nd, 2005 5:17 AM

How do I get a good photoshop program for free? Or what is the best and cheapest photoshop program that you can make good graphics & effects on?

Shining Lericon April 23rd, 2005 1:39 PM

The Gimp is free, and can do just about all of the things Photoshop can do. If you are using Windows and want to use The GIMP, go to http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/. And best of all, The GIMP is open-source!

Sawyer April 24th, 2005 11:49 AM

WHAT?! The Gimp can do almost nothing compared to photoshop. you can crack a copy of PS... i suppose you could download a free trial at www.adobe.com

Kira May 9th, 2005 8:11 AM

Ok, one question for Photoshop: Where do i get a hell lot of tutorials that work for Adobe Photoshop Elements 1.0 <---- I have it yes XD

Sawyer May 10th, 2005 6:50 AM

ummm... well, elements can do anything that Photoshop 7 can do, so try www.good-tutorials.com

Kira May 11th, 2005 7:07 AM

Where should I look there? O_o to make graphics XD

Sawyer May 12th, 2005 6:50 AM

uhhh... dude, isn't it a bit obvious? *looks at name* Spartan? herro. x3

Kira May 12th, 2005 6:56 AM

What section there XD I'm Spartan yes XD

Kura June 12th, 2005 4:40 PM

Yeah, you can also find a good paint program on Jasc Paint Shop Pro website (i dont know it offhand so just type it in on google.. sorry)

but they give you a free trial there of the newest Paint Shop Pro 9

it's just ask good as Photoshop, only it may have less filters.
i prefer it over Photoshop though, because i find i easier to use, and i've mastered all their tools on it ._.

it's personal preference really..

nicoleb June 17th, 2005 10:06 PM

Does anyone know how to use "blending options" to blend wordarts together in Adobe Photo Shop 0.8?

Sawyer June 18th, 2005 8:30 AM

0.8? what the hell? does that even exist?

Kura June 18th, 2005 9:20 AM

i think nicoleb mean photoshop 8.0

and anyways, nicoleb @@.. i'd ask you to be more specific please..
by blending do you mean like.. smudging the letters together? or putting them in one layer?
i might know @@.. but i need you to explain what exactly you want to do with the wordart please :3
~kura

Sawyer June 18th, 2005 9:35 AM

oh, i have CS 8.0... blending options... you mean overlay, darken, lighten, screen, that kinda stuff? i don't normally do that to blend text and stuff together, i only really use blending options for image revival and stuff. :\

Kura June 18th, 2005 6:14 PM

i dunno.. but i know in PSP8, there's a warp brush.. and with that, you set the font on another layer.. then with the warp-brush, you can warp it and change it into any sort of customized font you want :3
it's actually quite cool..
i dunno if photoshop has something like that though..
@@..

but i dunno what nicoleb is really trying to do with the 'blending fonts' thing..
:3 so yes..
@@.. i'll be checking back here to try to help you nicoleb :3
please reply and specify what you need soon :3
thankyou

Well, I don't even know how to get into blending options in 8.0.

Sawyer June 19th, 2005 8:33 AM

okay, here's the thing about PSP and PS. PS was originally designed for image editting, but has WAY more than just that. PSP is for drawing, hence the Paint Shop Pro.

Kura June 25th, 2005 5:02 PM

yes yes i know that
but in paint shop pro, you can also edit photos ._.
the only main difference is that photoshop has more filters that PSP.. ._.
and i think photoshop has a highlight tool..
but thats really about it..
Paint Shop Pro is a bit harder to use..
i prefer it though.. i like the layout.. and grabbing the colours is much easier..
i find that in Photoshop, the colour pallette is way too small.. ._.
and in PS, you keep having to reopen all the brush size windows and everything..
with PSP, you can just select your colours from the side, and you have an overview of your entire picture there too..
also, you have the brush sizes and things like that all at the top so you dont have to open seperate windows ._.

._. but lots of people prefer PS over PSP ._.
neh..
it's all in opinion

Try http://www.pixel2life.com/, they have some good tutorials too.

Kurosaki July 14th, 2005 5:49 PM

Okay, I've been having issues concerning brushes with my PSP8 (I have PE too so don't critisize me, XD) Anyways, every time I try to import a brush, it says there's already a file with that name, and to rename it, even though there isn't one with that name already. Even if I try renaming, I still get the same message. So... yeah. XD

BlankVoid July 14th, 2005 6:01 PM

tried reinstalling the program? o_O? i dont use PSP, but usually reinstalling will correct this issue.

otherwise, you can also try removing the whole brush folder (making backup or leaving it in trash can without removing)...then create a new folder for the brushes and reinstalling the brush folder...provided that PSP has a folder specifically for brushes... O_O

Sawyer July 15th, 2005 11:30 AM

delete the brush(es) and try reinstalling them, and if that doesn't work, than the file is probably corrupt. i've had a problem like that with PS, since i don't use PSP, and i tried deleting my entire folder, but it still didn't work. so... it's probably a problem with the file. *shrugs*

Kura July 18th, 2005 12:57 PM

Did you check in your PSP8 files for it?
usually when you download PSP8 it gives you a folder that says "psp8 files"
check if it's there..
if it's not i suggest you reinstall it..

or.. also, try a system restore to a time when you remember it working fine
(but if it's too far back, i just suggest reinstalling it)

i hope that helped!

Yami_Zidane July 25th, 2005 8:41 AM

I have a question, how do you get new fonts onto Photoshop, i know where to download them its just getting them onto Photoshop that seems to baffle me O.o any help would be appreciated!

Kira July 26th, 2005 7:37 AM

Now, i asume you use Windows O.o Go to C: -> WINDOWS -> Fonts -> Then, in the navbar, pick "file" and choose "Install Font" then, browse your computer, find your font and press install ^_^

When you export, you must
1) Export as gif or png
2) Make sure that the transparency checkbox is ticked.

what do you mean by 'transparent'
do you mean opaque-looking?
because for that, you can take the eraser tool and set the brush to a bigger size and set the opacity to about 50% (or however transparent you want it)
then go over the whole picture (dont lift up the button for the mouse) until it's all one transparency.

i hope that helped!

Sawyer August 6th, 2005 10:27 AM

he means how do you make a part of the canvas gone, so it's not completely a square. really easy for me, i always save in png. xD

DarkPegasus August 13th, 2005 10:23 AM

Ok I have several questions:

1. Where I can download new fonts, styles, brushes etc for Photoshop CS?
2. How can I make it so when I am copying in PS(and pasting) that the background is transparent?
3. I found a tutorial on the net about water drops, and followed every step, but it still wouldn't work. Anyway here is the tutorial:

http://www.n-sane.net/tutorials/water_drops/index.php

So tell me if it works for you.

Sawyer August 13th, 2005 10:29 AM

1. deviantart.com - look in the Resources section
2. when you're.. copying and pasting? i have no idea what you mean, sorry.
3. i've seen that tutorial before. it has to be on a background to see it. if you just make a new white layer under the water drop, you'll see. if you make it even more detailed, it'll look even better.

DarkPegasus August 13th, 2005 10:38 AM

Well I made this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v520/DarkPegasus/dp.png

And I want to put only the DarkPegasus part(without the black background) on something like this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v520/DarkPegasus/plasma.png

Composer of Requiems August 13th, 2005 11:14 PM

Umm you should have done it on a different layer.

Anyway, now, the easiest way is to set the layer options to screen. That way, only the light parts show up.

DarkPegasus August 14th, 2005 1:01 AM

One question:

What is the name of the font(or where I can download it) that Composer of Requiems is using in his sig?

Hmm just a little suggestion with colouring anime lineart; use layer masks and folders. Make a folder for each part you want to colour, set the folder's layer mask as the section of the lineart that you want to colour. It's a lot easier that way.

Those are the best places for fonts and brushes for CS (I've been told). I use PSP7, so I wouldn't know =/

I was wondering, though, is there any specific forum/thread/place on these boards where art competitions are held? No? I have no idea, I'm absolutely new.

We don't have any art competitions, yet. ^_^
