"smut for smut"

A man threatens to burn a Koran that's not a Koran.
The world rages. People distribute pornography for a Christian Bible. ...what of it? Anyways. It's double standard. Personally, I think it's lowbrow and fail, but... |
O... kay.
This is a first. I've never heard anyone say that the scripts in the Bible are as bad or worse than Porn. The whole Atheist thing seems to be getting steam and being more bold about stuff like that. But most people believe that the Bible is something good and Porn is the exploitation of women, which many religious groups consider bad. I wouldn't be surprised if some firebrand preacher comes by and delivers a major sermon while this is going on. |
I must admit, I like their style.
I also think they should be commended for standing up and expressing their own views, I mean it is one of their rights after all to do so. More power to them, if religious people can preach in the street FOR the bible, then atheists can make a stand somewhere public AGAINST it. Not allowing them that is wrong, it's a basic denial of human rights and it's nothing but double standards. |
I completely disagree with their views and I think they are acting in a childish manner.
But I support their 1st Amendment right to express their views. I would rofl if one of those student's ended up being under 18 and they got in legal trouble, though. |
Bad trolls are bad. They're not even saying anything; they're just trying to piss off Christians. It's not much of a "stand against a predominantly christian society", it's just freakin' real-life trolling. The only thing is, in real life, they get taken seriously (although they're 18 and it's porn, so maybe not).
I think this is once again a case of "discrimination against a majority isn't discrimination". It really puts out a bad image for atheists. Quote:

There should make a greater distinction made between antitheism and atheism.
I fit the description of apatheist, so don't feel as concerned as I otherwise might about their 'fight fire with fire' ways, but it puts out a poor image. It is simply human nature though, as it seems. I can't say I think it matters whether what they're doing is right or wrong, but if nobody were to thrust their beliefs around in the first place (as religions do and long have done, probably making it 'their fault' in the first instance) we wouldn't have these occurences at all. |
Porn is bad. Period. Doesn't matter what religion you follow. Atheists support porn, apparently. They are now bad.
This is the only message they are sending by doing that. |
I dunno I think there are better ways to make people question their religious beliefs like maybe they could all get together and hold an atheist-themed concert!

It's statements like this that don't ever help matters. It's so narrow-minded and self righteous. At the risk of flaming, which I am honestly not doing in any way, you obviously didn't read what they were doing. They didn't use porn because they support it. They used it as a non-religious version of smut. Hence the title, Smut vs. Smut. Again, honestly not flaming or anything. Just having an opinion on a specific post. This can be deleted or whatever if a mod sees fit too. |

And no, I honestly didn't read it... I just saw 'porn=bible' and thought, oh porn is their bible... and thus my post. (Being fairly sarcastic in both posts tbh.) |
I hate antitheist atheists just as much as I hate overzealous theists.
Why do people feel the need to prove that their worldview is better than others'? It doesn't matter in the end. If atheists are right, there is no afterlife for any of us and if theists are right, they have no need to worry because they're constantly working toward their goals for the afterlife anyways. I'm sick of seeing this spiritual warfare all the time because nobody but those in the gray area in the middle of the spectrum would ever budge on their stance. As for the story in question here, it's nothing more than irl trolling. Yes, I can sympathize with their reasons to reciprocate the zealots on the other end of the spectrum, but there really is no point other than to piss off the zealous Christians, one of the more powerful lobby groups in the state I might add. :/ |

A concert. Really. Atheism is cool now. Hooray, Lady Gaga. |

Anyway.. trading a fairy tale for a wannabe American Pie.. sounds like a good deal. In all seriousness though this is absurd. What happened to the old style of atheists that claim that the bible is a fairy tale and watch as religious people go "OMG!". Well, I heard some people suddenly went extremely religious when some religious guy came and explained them thing, I don't see this any different from this. One promotes you closer to religion, the other promotes you far from religion. |

Maybe they're actually converting to Christianity, but are too poor to buy Bibles. So, they came up with this plan to trade all of their porn away, and get Bibles for free at the same time.

Seriously. Nicely done. I lol'd. :D |

Or print The Bible on this month's issue! I like this line of thinking. People that are jerks not because YOU say so but because they are just: Jerk. Pro choice. And proud of it. Seriously. Where else are great comedians and good jokes gonna come from. Like: Q: What's the difference between Miley Cyrus and Lindsay Lohan? Spoiler:
Then there is the dead baby joke. They seem usually get girls to go away. I want to know a dead celebrity joke, but Michael Jackson is probably still alive. That, and O.J. Simpson hasn't croaked yet. |

I completely agree with them and their cause. People saying how vile and disgraceful it is, I think are being ignorant.
When Britain had floods about a year ago now, a bishop (Or someone of status within the church) blamed it on Gods anger against homosexuality. To my knowledge, absolutely nothing happened, no outrage. This is a minor one, I've seen hundreds of occasions where people have gotten away with saying or doing something and using their religion as a flame shield. It's a frustrating double standard that occurs almost everywhere; I have nothing against offending people, but using Religion as a sort of ultimate shield is just plain wrong. While that may seem like a digression, it leads me back to my point. Why throw a hissy fit over a group of students voicing their opinion against religion when other people have done much worse in the name of their religion. |

But the majority of people don't mind so much as long as the one throwing the punch is the group they trust more, and Christians are generally a more trusted demograph than atheists. This is why Christian radicals spreading misinformation to garner their numbers doesn't set off alarms but a couple of atheists trolling a college campus do. :/ |

thread winner. S/he's right. Society turns a blind eye to Christian bashing, but as soon as anything is uttered about Islam, that's it, rage time. |
