12 type Challenge.

This is an interesting easy/ridiculously difficult challenge, depends how you approach it.
OK, the rules.
1. You may only catch 6 pokemon (excluding HM slaves)
2. They must be dual type.
3. There may not be repeated types; ie, there will be twelve types in the team.
4. NO cheating. At all. Ever. This includes egg trading.
5. you must have at least one member of the team before the first gym/hard battle.
6. Try to keep the legendaries to a low? You'll have a pretty well-rounded team anyway, and they just make it easier...
that's all folks, the rest is up to you! It's easier to decide on members of your party before you start.

I'll have a shot at it:

Name: Lord_Storm
Ingame Name: 12TYPE
Game: Emerald
Team: Breloom, Camerupt, Swellow, Tentacruel, Shedinja and Magneton
Types: Grass, Fighting, Fire, Ground, Normal, Flying, Water, Poison, Bug, Ghost, Electic and Steel.

I will uodate as often as possible, but I have an ultimate solo to do at the same time

bwburke94 November 1st, 2010 9:07 AM

Considering Lord_Storm's use of Shedinja and the lack of a starter, does that mean the 6-catch limit only applies to mons actually caught in Poké Balls?

Yes, the starter doesn't count, nor does any pokémon given to you, if you don't want to use them in your team.
Also, They don't have to start at the fully evolved type, you just have to have all six at full evolution before the league.

Update 1

I have just defeated Brawly, and will carry on, but will likely not update until tomorrow, and I also lost my pic of defeating Roxanne.

Cool, cool! Looks like it's turning out nicely for you!

I'd like to have a go at this,

Username: SuicuneTM
Game Name: Joe
Game: Emerald
Types: Undecided
Pokémon: Undecided

(I will update this post once I have decided my team :))

Roaring Moon November 3rd, 2010 5:34 PM

I'll take a whack at it.

Username: Luigi-San
Game Name: Chris
Game: Yellow
Types: Fire, Flying, Ghost, Poison, Rock, Ground, Ice, Psychic, Grass, Bug, Water, Fighting
Pokémon: Charizard, Gengar, Golem, Jynx, Parasect, Poliwrath

TheRkyeet November 4th, 2010 7:08 AM

Nice one, Luigi-San! The first generation is the hardest, because there are two less types, so I'm yet to try it. It's pretty hard to work out a usable team.

Sora247_2009 November 4th, 2010 11:43 AM

I'll try this.

Name: Sora247_2009
Ingame Name: Sora
Game: Emerald
Team: Blaziken, Cacturne, Pelliper, Shedinja, Girafarig, Aggron
Types: Fire, Fighting, Grass, Dark, Water, Flying, Bug, Ghost, Psychic, Normal, Steel, Rock

Lord_Storm November 5th, 2010 5:39 AM

I'm not going to update very often due to my laziness with challenges and my Ultimate Solo is tough and after that I may be doing an Ultimate Monotype, so I will update less, but will try.

I want to take this challenge on Pokèmon Black, finally I found a challenge open to these new games!

Name: Porygon Z (Haru in game).
Version: Black (ROM).
Team: Kirikizan, Abagoura, Goruugu, Victini, Denchura, Morobareru.
Types: Dark-Steel, Water-Rock, Ground-Ghost, Fire-Psychic, Bug-Electric, Grass-Poison.

Can I do some Eggs in White, then trade it?

This Challenge is designed to force the use of naturally occurring pokémon, so I would usually say no, but as long as they don't have any ridiculous egg moves and you can ONLY find them in White Version, I'll give the OK.

Porygon Z November 15th, 2010 8:24 AM

Well, they are all findable in Black, but half of them is foundable after the 7th Badge, and the earliest to find of them is Victini, in Hiun City.
Or, if you agree, I could use AR codes to find them at level 5 in Route 1.
And, for ridicolous Egg moves, you mean a move with like 120 base power, to make an example? Or the opposite?
My Eggs are going to hatch soon, so tell me.

Kirikizan's Egg Moves: Revenge, Sucker Punch, Pursuit, Headbutt, Stealth Rock, Psycho Cut, Mean Look.
Abagoura's Egg Moves: Water Pulse, Knock Off, Rock Throw, Slam, Iron Defense, Flail, Whirlpool, Body Slam, Bide.
Denchura's Egg Moves: Pin Missile, Poison Sting, Cross Poison, Rock Climb, Pursuit, Disable, Faint Attack.
Morobareru's Egg Moves: Gastro Acid, Growth, Poisonpowder, Stun Spore, Rollout, Defense Curl, Endure, Body Slam.

No Egg Moves for Goruugu and Victini.

Well, I did mean this challenge with the rule of 'no Cheating at all ever', resulting in the forced use of at least one pokémon found early in the game, for instance I did the first gym in Platinum using only a Magikarp. What you're doing, I feel is sort of ruining the spirit of the challenge, which may include looking long and hard for your selected pokémon you are using. But it's your choice. It's good to plan out a team, but you have to be aware as to where to catch them.
But enough of my ranting.
This is a fairly free challenge, and you can cheat if you want.
Who's going to stop you?

Ok, no matter what.
I'm sorry for begging you, I'll do this without trading or cheat.
Just a long training at the beginning (you'll understand why).
So, I'll change my team. Drastically.

In order of finding, we have...

And the types used are...

Fire-Fighting, Flying-Psychic, Bug-Poison, Water-Rock, Ground-Electric, Dark-Steel.

So, thinking it's all OK, I've already started.
All I've done is defeating the first Gym, completed the Abandoned Lot of Dreams and Underground Water Hole events, and catched Koromori, now grinding him.

Porygon Z November 16th, 2010 12:01 PM

Well, I've just got my Quake Badge!
I'm now in the Electric Rock Cave, coming up next... N battle, and the 6th Gym!

PS: I'm sorry, but I'm playing White, not Black. I made a mistake, can you change? Thanks :)

EDIT: I'm now in Route 9, next to Souryuu City.

EDIT 2: Arrived at Pokèmon League, now grinding to level 55 before entering.

Well, we do, but we're all pretty chilled about it, so some people do it often, some rarely and some just get on with it.

I update often, because I love play Pokèmon games, and I play 'em so quickly, I'm getting very fast on White <3

Now I've defeated Pokèmon League, N and Geechisu, and also catched Zekrom.

Lord_Storm November 19th, 2010 9:31 PM

I have finally completed my Challenge with the end of Wallace.
http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/af321/Lord_Storm/12Type/PokemonEmerald_01-1.png
My Final Team Was:

Team Order:

6. Shedinja - Useful early, but in the second half of the game, it lost it's usefulness. FST(Final Stat Total)= 338
5. Swellow - Again, Useful Early, but didn't lose much usefulness because he could still deal big damage and fast. FST= 604
4. Camerupt - Useful throughout, but just couldn't hit fast enough and the last gym and Champion stole his supremeness. FST= 626
3. Breloom - Like Swellow, but was able to destroy Sidney and Glacia, making him very useful for me. FST= 618
2. Magneton - Magneton was very useful, because he was the complete opposite of Camerupt. Able to obliterate water and ice types. FST= 632
1. Tentacruel - He stood out from the rest like a god, because he abused the fact that the Elite 4 all attacks mainly with Special Attacks, so he was able to take their hits, poison them and stay standing until they fainted. FST= 692

This was an awesome challenge, thank you for the idea.

I find myself posting a lot more when I am playing the earlier games too, because of the speed button on the VBA emulator - No$GBA doesn't have one.

Also, Porygon Z, PLEASE put spoiler tags around your Gen V posts! I would rather wait to find out what's going on by playing the game.

DarkCurse101 November 20th, 2010 11:49 AM

The idea is very good, I really like it, however I see ppl posting their teams here before they start playing? can I just choose 6 Pokemon before I start and trade them when I start? you said no hacks, but what? is that ( trading ) allowed? if so, count me in!

People post teams before the start in order to prevent any miscalculations about typing. The challenge is designed to force players to use "local" pokémon, so as long as the trading is to evolve already caught pokémon. If you want to choose just 6 pokémon that you like, it is best to choose a generation that they are all in! (you know, before the league)

New Entry/Only Possible Teams for RBY

After doing extensive cross-referencing manually, I discovered the only possible teams for RBY is the following (include the family tree of course):

Charizard/Dragonite/Zapdos/Pidgeot/Moltres/Fearow/Farfetch'd
Jynx
Golem/Rhydon/Onix
Parasect
Gengar
Poliwrath

However, as you must have at least 1 of these pokemon prior to the first gym, you must either hack/cheat, or choose Pidgeot or Charizard (for RB only).
Not a lot of choice there :/

So, anyways:

User: fleirdo
Player: James

Pokémon: Charizard, Jynx, Rhydon, Gengar, Parasect, and Poliwrath
Types: Fire/Flying, Ice/Psychic, Rock/Ground, Poison/Ghost, Bug/Grass, and Water/Fighting

Yes, that is true. Not a lot to say here. Although, you forgot some options, such as Fearow.
It's easier in FireRed, etc because of Scizor, Steelix and Magneton, though.

Scorpio219 December 23rd, 2010 4:44 PM

does anyone else only do challenges that have banners for them? Any way, I AM IN!
i am gonna do this on pokemon ruby using and the name devon since it resembles dozen, like the # 12

red=updated

my pokes are gonna be my fav poke Blaziken, Walrein flygon Armaldo Shiftree skarmery (i said i was gonna use salemence instead of flygon but that was cause i confused bagon for gible and thought i could get him early under the bicicle road, oh well, and i totally forgot about skarmery intill i saw it.)

alright started with the torchic then caught a sedot at lv 3, wish i new i doesn't gain any moves intill lv 12 : ( that sucked to train but did it and gave it the TM bullet seed 1 lv before i gained a attack : ( sigh. whell i beat the first gym with my nuzleaf anf cumbuskin (spelled wrong) just beat the second gym before i got tired so thats it for day 1

Scorpio219 December 25th, 2010 6:30 AM

alright during day 2 i made the changes to my team, then promptly caught a skarmary, gott the goggles aand caught a trapinch, then gave the scientist the fossil and got anorith, spent a long while training them to lv 34 where by nuzleaf and combuskin are. oh yeah, got the first 5 badges and beat my dad-norman-

Hallylicious December 27th, 2010 5:48 AM

I'm up for this in ruby, ill do it alongside my other challenges.

User: Hallylicious
Player: Kiiroi
Game: Ruby
Pokémon: Gyarados, Girafarig, Magneton, Magcargo, Dustox, Cacturne
Types: Water/flying, normal/psychic, steel/electric. fire/rock, bug/poison, grass/dark

Gyarados is the only member i have used before so this should be interesting.

I started the game and named myself Kiiroi,
Helped Birch out with a Mudkip
Birch sent me to battle his kid; May
Defeated may,

sorry i hadent updated in a while(like 2 days) but i beat the challenge!!! there was a huge blizarrd so i was stuck inside and rammed my way through this challenge. it's weird, i thought shiftree would be prettymuch usless against the elete four because of his bad typing and moveset but his one dark attack and i gave him brick break those 2 attacks were useful against the first 3 elete four( ice dark steel) but walrein's waer ice and blazikens fire and fighting attacks were most useful- skarmery and anorith were prettymuch useless. i will now claim my reward of ur banner. YEAH!!!

Challenged team magma, and won.
Challenged May, won with ease.
Challenged Wally, won in one bite from Gyrados.
Challenged Watson, lost once then came back with 12 paralize heals then won with a crit hit with confusion.
Did all the usual riff raff including catching a Slugma and made my way to Flannery, and won on my 3rd go.
Got the go goggles and went straight to the desert and caught myself a Cacnea
Challenged norman and won.
Then caught a magnemite

Well, for Cacturne I would suggest Focus Punch, Leech seed, Substitute and Giga drain.
for Cacnea... Leech seed, Ingrain, Spikes and Giga drain.

Defeated my May with ease

We're getting a good response to the Challenge, just remember to update once you've finished it in order for me to move you to the "masters" section.

So, basically only one type can occur once in a team.

and an example of a team would be something like

Magneton (Electric/Steel)
Shiftry (Grass/Dark)
Blaziken (Fire/Fighting)
Swellow (Flying/Normal)
Jynx (Ice/Psychic)

Flygon (Dragon/Ground)

Yes, this is true. This would be for what game? Do you intend to use this?

Alrighty. Finally have a chance to begin my challenge.

Spoiler:
*Started off with Torchic, named it 'Pollo Loco'.
*After defeating Brendan, I caught a shiny Seedot. Yes, it was Shiny! D: Although I was hoping for a male so I could use another nickname, I eventually decided on 'Prettyful'. However, I accidentally messed it up, so that it's just 'Pre'. Oh well, that still sounds good.
*I am now training in preparation for Roxanne.

That's interesting, once a friend of mine took so long looking for a Seedot that they found a shiny Poochyena. Go figure.

It took me a very long time just to look for a male Seedot, but I guess the Shiny Seedot will do. :P

New Mini-Update:

Spoiler:

*Also caught a Wingull and a Nincada last time, forgot to mention it. They are nicknamed 'Swift' and 'Ninja' respectively.
*Defeated Roxanne after my Pollo Loco evolved into Combusken. She was easily taken down.
*Defeated Brendan easily as well.
*Headed to Dewford and saved the game. Ready to catch my Aron.

CHALLENGE COMPLETE.

So yeah...couldn't update as much as I would have liked for two reasons. One, I got a bad case of the flu, so I didn't even bother going on the internet just to update. Two, I can't double post.

Anyway, here some screenshots and my final stats as proof that I actually did it.
EDIT: *facepalms* I saved over the Wallace screenshot with my Steven screenshot, then saved over that with my final party screenshot. Ugh. Sorry guys, looks like all I got is this:

Had to grind at the Elite Four a few times to get high enough in level. Pollo Loco destroyed Steven with Overheat and Sky Uppercut. Wallace, however, took effort from mostly Ninja, with Facade dishing out major damage (Wallace's pokemon love to use Toxic)
I also never knew that Pelipper could learn Shock Wave. o.O

All in all, great team, they worked very well with each other. :D
