AI rarely do the Mystic Artes on their own. Throughout my playing of Abyss I don't think I've ever really seen one launch their Mystic Arte. Maybe once or twice? Could be my fault because I may or may not have set it so their overlimit had to be activated manually but I find it easier to do so. That way I can hold off on using a Mystic Arte for when I really need/want to use it rather than 'BAM oh a random mystic arte from an AI'.
|
For the most part though, only enemy AI such as bosses activate their MA's. Like some others said, it depends on the game. But for the four I've played, Symphonia, DotNW, Innocence, and Eternia (The latter two of which I'm not entirely sure even have MAs), no allied AI character activated a Mystic on their own.
|
I... don't remember if Genis ever uses Indignation Judgement on his own. Maybe if he just happens to use Indignation while in Overlimit but it's usually not the case because he's generally already in a spell and by the time he starts another spell he's out of it. Colette on the other hand she had totally done Holy Judgement on her own once and it was hilarious and totally unexpected. Lloyd he can't do it. Ever.
Symphonia 2 is another thing entirely (and probably what you were talking about) but with the way you did Mystic Artes in that game I don't think it's possible. |
Speaking of Symphonia 2 and Colette, how do you activate her Mystic Arte? I've activated everyone's but hers. Is there a special requirement?
|
Quote:
Yeah, I think so. But DotNW was a rushed game so I could see how they just put in that form of execution without developing it. But do Eternia and Innocence have Mystic Artes in any form? I know Innocence R does, but I don't know about the DS version. Quote:
But the MAs aren't all that useful in that game. I'd say in order of effectiveness Zelos' Shining Bind, Lloyd's Divine Justice, Emil's Devil's Hellfire, and Marta's Radiant Roar are the best. Zelos just because it's such a high damaging skill, Lloyd's because it's a harder hit in a smaller area, Emil's because it's easily used in a pinch, and Marta's for it's healing properties. But Raine's MA Sacred Shine... Man that was utterly useless. It seriously does NOTHING. If I can't see a damage or healing counter it didn't do anything. |
I used the same thing as I did to activate everyone else's MA. "Special" was on, I used Judgment (and other moves) and held B (and all buttons possible) but still nothing!
|
Yeah. That's precisely why the AI can't use Lloyd's Mystic Arte in the first game.
Really? Raine's actually does some damage iirc or at least does some healing properties. I remember using it quite a few times back when I was playing DOTNW. Maybe I might have been using it because it looked pretty, but I'm pretty sure it was doing something. My favorite from Symphonia 2 though was Genis'. It shouuuuld be Judgement. If it's not Judgement then try Holy Song? In Symphonia you had to use Holy Song for the chance to activate Holy Judgement so it might work the same way in the sequel as well or something. I would have to turn on DOTNW to check myself but I can't do so right now because my sister is watching TV. |
I think Raine's might revive people who've been KO'd. :s I swear I remember using it from time to time and it being useful. Maybe I'm thinking of someone else though?

i feel bad. I've beaten Abyss over 7 times already and I JUST found out something new about Jade. "It's just like my eyes. he's carving a fonic glyph in Mohs to gather fonons." So...Jade's eyes are special huh. That's why they're red?

^ There's a possibility that Tales of Xilla might be planned to be released in the U.S and the U.K next month, thanks to a seen trademark that showed up in Europe and the U.S. Again, there's no guarantee, but, it's... a possibility. :3 |
That's exciting about Xillia. I've heard both good and bad things about it but I do really wanna play it..... because it looks really pretty. 8D

Aww. Mohs's voice is de-warped in the 3DS! It's just wrong for him to still sound human after he mutates. I wonder why they changed it? It was fitting for him to sound like a retarded demon.
Well, I beat Abyss again. (And cried again.) Now I HAVE to learn more about the Big Bang and the Cantamination effect. I need to know what happened! |

Machi Asobi Report: http://blog.esuteru.com/archives/6184163.html http://tokkurin.net/archives/50767173.html#more -There will be an announcement at Tales of Festival -There will be new 3DS, PSP, and Vita titles according to Yoshizumi. -Yoshizumi said he wanted to remake TOS on the PSP, but it apparently exceeded the PSP's limitations too much, even moreso than TOA. (Which is probably why TOA's on the 3DS.) -The Symphonia OVA has a different ending than the game; it's release date might be postponed. -They were debating whether or not to make a sequel to Ratatosk(?!), it seems like they decided against it. (I am not kidding about this.) -ufotable will be in charge of animation for the next game -Konishi (the voice of Lloyd) asks Yoshizumi if they would consider remaking Symphonia for the WiiU, to which Yoshizumi responds with a "Huh?". -Yoshizumi says they are considering the WiiU for future Tales. |
So, what's everybody's favourite Mystic Arte? Mine would have to be Jade Curtiss'. It's so fitting for him, and the dialogue prior to the attack... is so epic.

Also I still want remake of Symphonia. I personally wouldn't mind for it on the WiiU because console > portable for Tales of Games (IMO because I play them with my sister) or any other console system really since well... seems like Symphonia is too much for portables. ♥ I'm also interested in the OVA ending. Either something to take care of the take that the OVA is Tabatha-less or something more dramatic. Hmm. /yes only cares about Symphonia. What's new. ... In other news there's a Promotional Poster for the ToS OVA under a bridge. I'm too lazy to get the link and everything but it amuses me greatly. |
^Yes prequel yes. I liked Ratatosk, but it wasn't really my favorite... I feel like it would've been better off longer and as its own game instead of part of Symphonia.
... Symphonia is also my favorite. Weird because a few days ago I was telling my sister how much fun I'd be having with a remake of it xD |
Mmm, if they make a sequel or prequel, I'm just wondering about their voice actors~
|
Is the WiiU the only remake option for Symphonia? Can't the 3DS handle it? How about the PS3?
|
Mnn... if they do a prequel the voice actors wouldn't be big of a problem? Compared to nine characters+ characters for Symphonia there is only four that would have had voices before (Noishe doesn't count he just whines. You can do much with whining ahaha) and Martel barely said anything so you might as well say three? Sequel on the other hand... I don't want to think about it.
Symphonia's tenth anniversary is next year. I'm pretty sure they'll think of something for Symphonia by then. It could be why they're thinking on postponing the last episode? I'm not sure. If ToS would have been more difficult to port than Abyss though that could be one of the reasons and will be my reason. screw 'better battle system = the whole game is better' reason. why they ported Abyss. If Symphonia really is that big then I PS3 would probably be the best current option. Symphonia is my favorite as well... but I think that's obvious aha.. |
Pretty sure the Vita is a lot more powerful than the 3DS, so if the Vita can't do it, it would have to be on a full-blown console.
I don't know what the specs are for the Wii U, so while I'd like to say that they could possbily put a remake on Wii U -and- one of the other consoles, it's possible they'd have to dull down the game to make it fit for the Wii. (Unless the Wii U will be powerful enough to actually be a next-gen console instead of fitting it better in this gen?) I don't think PS3 would get it because unless they've already started the remake by now, it would end up coming out at the very end of the PS3's life before the next one, I think, and that's not good for sales. I don't think I'd want a remake of Symphonia, though. I think it still holds up well-enough on its own. The only thing I'd want to fix, honestly, is the loading times in the PS2 version and then it would be perfect. :( Oh man I would love a prequel to ToS though, since I imagine they'd almost have to set it up for Mithos's original plot. Kratos! Martel! <3 |
I was only concerned with the voices because I've heard that people really, really didn't like the voices in tos2, since their 'nostalgic kick' from the original members of the symphonian crew were shot from that. Given how wildly popular ToS was the first time around, I don't see them having a hard time paying extra to get Menville back for a ToSR, given how popular it's basically guaranteed to be.
And I know it seems weird to some, but I feel Lloyd's voice is a big deal. It's such an iconic voice; very distinct and recognizable. I can deal with them replacing him in RM and ToS:KoR given they're just spinoffs, but if they ever return to the original Symphonia ... Menville best be in it. As for the remake, it depends on the specifics of Nintendo's involvement, I suppose. But, if Symphonia on Sony would be an impossibility for North America, ... I'm pretty certain NB would do a SymphoniaR on a Nintendo console. Symphonia is their one worldwide hit; they're not dum enough to ignore the mass, worldwide potential a remake would have. Which is why I think/hope a SymphoniaR would be WiiU/PS3, simultaneous. PS3 in Japan to assay any enhanced porting fears, and WiiU worldwide to facilitate re-using of translating/possible rights issues with Nintendo. |
I thought the issue with getting some of the VAs back was to do with unions, not how much they had to pay. :( I know Menville still does incidental work in games (I saw his name scroll by under "additional voices" in Final Fantasy XIII-2 last night) so I can't imagine the issue with hiring him is just money.
I'm not sure Symphonia sold well enough overseas for them to bother even thinking about the people in NA/EU when they make it, though. Whether it's because they don't give them the publicity they need or just the tastes of English consumers, the Tales series does not sell well here. It does okay, but not well. If they'll get more people to buy it in Japan by putting it on a certain console rather than trying to pick something that everyone worldwide would like, they're gonna go with the Japan option. Tales fans in English are pretty hardcore with their love for the series, but I think it's just a drop in the ocean to the Japanese dev teams. It's nice if they can get their work out there and localized in other places but it's not really on the forefront of any of their minds, I assume. |
I thought Symphonia did pretty well here, actually... I think it was around 120,000 copies sold in the 2nd week I think?
Well, I mean, I understand the point about the Tales series having a small audience... in fact, that's part of the reason why the PS3 version of Vesperia never made it here I think. |
Did a quick google search and aside from the overall sales worldwide and the stat you mentioned, I can't find anything on its sales. Not much on the sequel either. :( All I can find are data on the Japanese sales which don't help much. I know ToS did well here (sold about half of what it did in Japan, as far as I can guess, which is good considering its sheer lack of advertisement), but the other Tales games pretty much bombed. So I really don't see them considering the NA/EU fan base in their development cycles unless they know it'll benefit the Japanese fans too. Though, I guess if there were one part of the franchise they would do it on, it would be ToS.

And pffft. Where's the love for Yuan? I can see some problems that they would have to consider when making the game (depressing ending anyone? as well as a lot of one-on-one battles if they want to stick to canon and Mithos facing the Summon Spirits by himself) but regardless I would love to know their history. So much. /too lazy to comment on everything else hurr. |
I don't think they'd drastically alter the battle system or anything, even for a remake over a port. I'm pretty sure they didn't really change anything but graphics and maybe add in some extra areas/functions in all the other Tales remakes but I've also never played any of them so I dunno. XD;
That's the problem! There isn't much love for Yuan! :( He needs to be featured in another game to fix this. |
I restarted Eternia :P Been training like crazy, and now I'm getting Sylph. ^.^ I swear, it's so hard to get a Thrust level up so I've been abusing Megasonic Thrust like crazy. >.>
Anyone else here plays Eternia/Destiny II? |
I borrowed parallelzero's copy of the PSP version last year. I liked it. The characters were fun but I wasn't a fan of the battle system so for the last 1/5th of the game I did all my grinding on Auto. *ashamed* I never did get the hang of the summon spirits in that game.
I loved Meredy though. n_n |
Sadly, I haven't. I watched the majority of the OVA (which isn't even near like the game) but other than that I haven't been able to play it. I don't really like playing on ROMs aaand I don't have a PSP either.
At this rate I'm forever going to have only played Symphonia (1&2), Abyss, and part of Phantasia and Legendia. |
As of right now I only have a 3DS and a Wii, so the only game in the series that really interests me is Tales of the Abyss (I need to play Symphonia before it's sequel). For a while now I've been considering buying a PlayStation 3 to play a few of its games, but mostly to play many of the great PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 games I missed growing up (Metal Gear Solid, Shadow of the Colossus, etc.) Thing is, I was always quite skeptical as I don't have easy access to money, merely because I promised myself I'll never work in the fast food industry. Then I seen the English trailer for Graces f, which led me to get a simple paper route. Hundreds of amazing games, here I come!

Haha, really? I finished Phantasia because it was only 4 episodes. Eternia had what, 20+ I think. Aaaand for the game itself, I actually abused Spiral Attack and Neo Tempest Swarm so much that now my Thrust levels are going up faster than Slash. o.o |
Mm, no, I think Eternia just had an OVA and was like... 5 episodes long? It was an extra story that takes place near the end of the game but is never referenced in the game itself. Maybe you're thinking of Tales of the Abyss's anime? If I'm not wrong, it's the only one with more than 20 episodes. :P
|
Quote:
Ahem. I mean, I saw the whole episode list one. It was definitely more than 5. XD Wiki says it's got 13 episodes Okay maybe not 20+ but still :P Are the OVAs and anime two different things? XD |
Yeah. Eternia has thirteen. I got to about... episode ten I think but I never finished it.
Anyways, have a commercial guys! |
Omg you're right. :( But... but nothing happened in it so I assumed it was only ~5, haha. Whoops!
I like the art from the new Tales but I sure wish they'd give us more teasers than just that. |
Point taken. It was just shenanigans happening on an island if I remember correctly.
Same. Well, they'll be telling us the title during the Tales of Festival beginning on June (June 3rd or something?) so I guess we'll have to wait until then. I won't be surprised if something leaks before that day though. I'm also hoping that they say something about the next Symphonia OVA episode as well during the Tales of Festival if not sooner. |
lol, not much of a teaser. They do work fast though, don't they? Xillia was barely released in September and already a new game is being developed. Kinda figured they do an enhance version before working on something new. Oh well, let's just hope it's on a console I currently own.
|
They release a new flagship title once every year or two though, don't they? This one may not even be released this year if they're only starting to tease it now. Xillia was just released last year, yeah, but it was first teasted in summer 2010. So we'll probably see the next one in 2013.
I'm a little torn on the idea of an enhanced version of Xillia. I mean, I don't care either way if it gets one but the only time they've really done re-releases so close to the original release is when they're porting the game. There's no way Xillia will be released on 360 and that's really the only valid port it could get in this generation. But despite that, it was also unfinished when it was released--they said that a lot of things (including characters!) ended up on the cutting room floor so they wouldn't have to delay the game. Everyone I know who's played it seems to like it well enough but most of them agree that it doesn't seem as polished as it could be. So I do sort of expect them to release a polished version. Maybe they'll wait until the Wii U has been released and port it to that with all the additions? *shrug* The reveal of the next Tales game on the website is set to coincide with Tales Festival this year, so hopefully any trailer or information they show for it will be publicly available too instead of taking place behind closed doors-only like previous years. :3 |
I think they mentioned an important quote about the new game. Something along the lines of "Are you willing to destroy the world to save one girl's life?" Personally, I think this sounds a lot like Symphonia.
|
And Vesperia and Abyss if they'd chosen to focus more on Tear and...
XD; It's not a very original line, especially in a JRPG. Apparently the X in "TALES OF NEXT" on the web page has been flashing the same purple as the Xillia logo. So I think we're getting Xillia 2. :s |
Is that what they're going to do? Hnnn... Well I'm still hoping that they do something for Symphonia next year then. But.. eh. I haven't played Xillia so I can't have much of an opinion of whether I can be excited for a Xillia 2 or not. :x
So I'll be excited about this instead! 8D http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b11/cutepresea/ToSUWPack2CE.jpg I reaaaallly wished I had the money to buy this episode. ;; |
Jeez. The wait is killing meh. But sadly it's going to be Kratos Route isn't it? ;______;
That's what the Bonus Disk said...But isn't Colette Route Canon? DDDDDD: Zelos. ;_______________; |
Honestly, I'm very behind on the ToS anime (I never finished the Tethe'alla arc) so I don't even know what details confirm the route they're taking but... has it been stated anywhere that they're explicitly following one route or another? Unlike the game where it would have been ridiculous to have 9 party members at all time (with two being virtually identical), the anime won't really be confined by game mechanics. They could pretty much just follow the Colette route and have Kratos rejoin the main group anyway, couldn't they? :s
They can't really mess too much with canon unless they want to make ToS2 take place on an entirely different timeline since Zelos is still a main character in it. |
That's what I was thinking. Because Zelos is still in TOTA2...
But look at this: Spoiler:
You guys played the actual game so not much of a spoiler but pretty much just showing what route they're probably using. Edit: LOL It's a parody of Detective Conan. XD |
I don't see why they would parody the route they are going to use. But if they kill off Zelos I would at least like to see some backstory and Seles. But until we see the episode and see what happens I would still like to think that it's up in the air. 'Sides, they could always do what the manga did. Also, if they were going to kill off the character I would imagine that the boxart would be of that character and his sister not Mithos and Martel. Buuuut that's just my opinion. Zelos is much more popular in Japan after all (took number one spot in the popularity poll).
As for the ending they've already said that the ending will be different than the games. Though I'm not sure if they mean slightly as if to make up for Tabatha not being in the OVA or something more drastic. But, I want my Kharlan Heroes, and that boxart and camera pic of Mithos and Martel (too lazy to go get it BUT THERE WAS ONE) is making it pretty certain that there will be more Kharlan Hero in the OVA which will make this girl one happy fangirl. As for the Omake I still find it hilarious when Yuan says 'There is only one truth' when I'm used to Mithos' VA (who voices Conan from Detective Conan) saying it all the time haha. |

I'm really considering cosplaying for this convention I go to every year called Manifest. o3o
Because I'm really lazy when it comes down to wigs, I'm thinking of just going as Jude from Xillia. The costume's 90 bucks, though... not to mention shoes... and his gauntlets. Ooooh, boy. Cosplaying's not cheap. xD; Anyway, I'm craving Graces. Can't wait for it. Also, Namdai better make some awesome announcement about Symphonia on Wii U at E3. I know you can do it, Namdai. |

EDIT: this is where i go that information from a weeks back. Assumptions of new mothership title It got announced it is Tales of Xillia 2 Here is the logo http://andriasang.com/con1ac/tales_of_xillia_2/23zxh.jpg EDIT X2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R35xRU2zU2A |
Aww, no. D:
For some reason, I'm kinda disappointed. Ah, well. Can't really say if it's going to be good or not. Hopefully, it will be. If Namdai announces the first game over E3, I'd be over the moon, though. o3o |
I was reading one of my friend's plurk and a reason why some people might seem disappointed because compared to the other sequels Xillia 2 is coming out so much sooner after Xillia was released. Not that it wasn't expected as Erica (and I'm sure others) have called it but eh. I can't have an opinion because I never played Xillia.
So lol they lied when they said it would be a completely new mothership title. NOW TO BUG YOU GUYS WITH NEWS THAT YOU JUST MIGHT IGNORE OVER XILLIA 2 http://ova-tos.com/images/top/tos_main_120531.jpg The PV is/was shown in the Tales of Festival so hopefully Animate will be putting it up on their site soon. I wanna see it so bad. But here are the small images from the main website that they put up when they finally put up more info on the episode: Spoiler:
Also this which was in the Tales of Magazine. Not a high quality but hopefully there will be a higher quality one soon!: Spoiler:
You guys can obviously see where my priorities are. |
So instead of an enhanced version, I guess they just decided to go straight for a sequel instead. Hard to get excited when I've yet to play the first game, but definitely looked more modern (the dude's outfit for one)
I guess QTE are the new addition for this entry? |
I knew it would be Xillia 2. :P I think the whole "it'll be an entirely new mothership title" was either a mistranslation or they include sequels as mothership titles. Either is likely, I suppose. I'm not too terribly thrilled about this since I haven't played Xillia.
That said, the new UK Tales twitter had some interesting tweets earlier: Quote:

What's with Pascal's obsession with Sophie in Graces? At first, I thought it was curiosity and admiration. But I just saw a scene where Pascal's friend tries to see which guy would make the best boyfriend for Pascal, then Pascal ended up choosing Sophie! Is there more to her obsession than I originally thought? (Poor Hubert.)

I don't know much about Pascal but she's some type of researcher right? Couldn't that be it?
In other news the second United World episode has been out for a few days. I think the RAW is on youtube but I'll wait until the subs before linking it (from youtube) here. As for the third and last United World episode that has been postponed until October. I... actually don't mind because the thought of the very first and the very last episodes being released in the same month is actually pretty awesome to me. |

Damn, Graces still feels new, I'm still playing Abyss (never gonna stop), and I've yet to play translated Innocence. I need a moment to comprehend this...

Excited about Xillia. I heard bad things about it when it was first released but now that I have a few friends who've played it, I really want to. I was going to import if a localization hadn't been announced sometime this year and now I don't have to import. :> (Ugh import prices.) I hope it comes out in early 2013. Maybe I'll even finish Graces before then. Maybe.

I imagine we'll probably see it around the same time we saw Graces f this year if they specified Spring 2013. Otherwise, they announced Graces f's localization in February of last year and it didn't come out for a year after that. :( Hopefully we don't have to wait until next summer for Xillia.

Joinin' yo.
All this about Xillia makes me want to finish Graces f up. I'm always drawn back to Rebirth though. :/ I don't think I'll ever finish that one. |
Welcome! :>
I have to finish Graces f too. I was playing with my brother but he never shows much interest in playing and I don't want to go on without him if he does actually want to continue... so I might end up waiting for September and playing with my roommate when he comes back for fall term. ._. Or I guess I could just copy the save file and continue on anyway. Hmm. I got Tales of Destiny PS2 the other day! Well, borrowed it. :D I can't wait to start. I've never played that game. |
Thanks!
I enjoyed what I played of the Destiny remake. I can't wait til it's fan translated so I can see what was revised about the story and whatnot. I just have to be in a Tales mood otherwise I find it so hard to get into a game... which is weird considering it's one of my favorite series. ;_; |
I don't know the story to begin with... all I know is what I've seen from the characters in side games. :x
I feel the same way though. Even when I'm in a Tales mood, sometimes I can't play them. I tried playing Legendia the other month and I just couldn't get into it despite really wanting to play a Tales. There's been a lot of hype in the fandom for various reasons though so I'm hoping that sort of rubs off on me so I'll be able to dive into my Tales backlog soon. |
I love the Tales series! I've been playing since Tales of Symphonia. I love the battle systems of the games and also the characters. Unlike most people, I LOVED ToS2, because capturing monsters was a lot of fun. Emil and Marta were different from most of the Tales characters too, I liked them both. The newly released Graces is great too, it gave me a lot of smiles. I heard Xilia is being brought to the US and I'm really excited for that one!
Oh yes, may I join this club? ^^ |
What kind of curry does Jade eat? There are many different types of curry in the world and I'm no expert but can the type of curry be identified.by looking? I've always wondered which kind he eats.

Anyway, yeah. I actually popped in Eternia the other day and played some again. I love that gaaaaaame. |
I'm a Tales fan, so I'd like to join!
I own both Tales of Symphonia games but so far haven't bought any others, though Tales of the Abyss appears to be available for DS or 3DS cause I saw it with those games at Target the other day. Someone told me Tales of VS. is good. I also have seen the OVA for Tales of Eternia and the first episode of the Symphonia OVA. Very well animated, especially the Symphonia one. I also am a big fan of the Symphonia OVA's opening theme, "Almateria," despite its odd mish-mash of lyrics from Japanese, English, and who knows what other languages. And I actually enjoyed the Eternia one even though I've never played that game. I've beaten Tales of Symphonia a couple of times already; I maxed it out at 104 hours the first time because I did all the sidequests (including Niflheim). I'm playing it again so I can have game clear data to start a new game of Dawn of the New World with, since it prompts you for this when you start the game. Like someone else said, I dislike Lloyd's new VA in Dawn of the New World; his old VA was just fine. Don't know why they changed it. I'm also not a huge fan of the Wii controls for that game, using the Nunchuk to move and the Wiimote for everything else. It's pretty confusing. |
So like i picked up Tales of Vesperia the other day on the PS3. :)
So far I realllly like it :) I'm excited to advance farther into the story, I also watched the movie Tales of Vepseria: the First Strike on the FUNi website when I subscribed to their elite subscriber. But all in all, I stopped playing one of my games to play ToVPs3. :3 |
I never joined a club before, but I love the tales of series sooo much. I grow up on tales of symphonia, and it is my all time favorite game.
Zelos is the best character, just sayin' |

I just experienced a really weird glitch in Destiny. It might have to do with the fact that that I'm playing the PS1 version converted to PSP. In battle, spells may freeze the game. It's pretty rare, but it's happened. Weirdest part was the last time it happened, Philia called out "Ray"at the same time it froze. Then she didn't stop. Even though the game was frozen, she was calling out all her moves. (Which was a spoiler to me! >.<) Then after she voiced all moves, other voices were heard. It was conversations. (Which is weird because I don't remember any voice acting out of battle) I couldn't understand who was talking and what was going on. It was either a really long one or a bunch one after the other. I couldn't tell. My PSP's battery actually died before the voices were finished. Did this happen to anyone before? I know Phantasia has been known to have freezing issues when converted to PSP but what about Destiny? And when does voiced conversation actually happen? Also an unrelated question, why is Destiny's American release a text-only translation? This is the only Tales game I know (any game I know for that matter) that doesn't translate voices. |
I could probably think of a few reasons as to why Destiny isn't voices but I'm frankly too lazy to come up with them haha. But I finally watched Phantasia's OVA after putting it off. Pretty good, I suppose. Some changes of course but what to do expect when they try to put a whole game into four episodes. Which is why I'm really glad that they extended Symphonia's even if it doesn't always follow the story and the ending is going to be different.
Anyways welcome everyone who is new here! It seems that it's not often we can get an actual discussion going on (I've tried okay) since everyone is interested into different things here but that's all right. We manage haha. |
I got Tales of Graces f last Thursday, and so far it's been an absolute joy to play. xD;
Honestly, I didn't like Tales of the Abyss too much, so Graces feels like a breath of fresh air! Symphonia will always be the best, though. o3o |
Managed to get through the PSX port of Phantasia yesterday. Doesn't take you too long to realize how badly Namco did with the localization of the GBA version. Anyways, great game that's made me decide to go back and play Symphonia. (Symphonia being a distant prequel) Wanna try out the PS2 version since it least has a menu patch which should make it a lot more easy to navigate, but the differences between the two versions don't seem to be much honestly.

I'm playing Tales of Innocence. Has anyone played it? The main character reminds me of Emil - shy, and has a 'kick ass' persona in him.
By the way, I -should- make a discussion topic... What are your favourite tales character designs? For example, I myself like Yuri Lowell's simple, yet mysterious attire, as well as Rita Mordio's asymmetrical clothing design. :3 |
I've played Tales of Innocence! It was pretty good, apart from the awful level design. xD;
What are your favourite tales character designs? Hard question. o3o Even though it wasn't a really good game overall, I'm going to have to say Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. Emil and Marta's costumes were freaking awesome, imo! : D |
I do like Marta's design as well~ Mmm, but yeah, pity that the game didn't had the 'edge' when it could of been easily corrected. u-u
PS. I added the new members. If i missed anyone, let me know. ^-^ |
What are your favourite tales character designs?
I have a few favorites. But mine would probably be Flynn. I know Guy and Flynn are basically a recycled design. But I like Flynn's attire, his solider outfit, also I like him in Luke's, and his First Strike Costume :3 |
Hey yeeeah, don't they have Yuri and Flynn's first strike costumes on Vesperia PS3? (I think it was in a network store)

A little off topic from the discussion question, and this is about 2 days old, but there was an article saying that Baba would personally recommend Tales of Hearts: http://www.siliconera.com/2012/09/12/tales-producer-says-you-should-play-tales-of-hearts/ Well, there are more content in there... like how he became bombarded with people asking him to localize Tales of Vesperia for PS3, and how he wants to localize Tales games that weren't released to the west, but... not much inquiry on this. (Maybe there will be future plans?) |

I haven't played Hearts yet, but I hear it's really good - better than Innocence if I recall... but Innocence was really fun too, so I'm not sure on that. |
Yeah, unless its what they did with Abyss 3D and Graces this year, like a remake/Port to another handheld like Vita, or 3DS, but I see Hearts would be remade to the Vita like Innocence R being on Vita. I want to see Hearts to get the similar remake.
|
Yeah; I was kinda disappointing on how they've said Innocence R wasn't going to be localized, even though Innocence R looks promising and fun, but I do hope that Hearts will have improved graphics on the Vita too~
Oh yeaaah, you guys knew about the Design-your-own-Tales-T-Shirt contest sponsored by Baba, right? (yeah, this was a month ago) In case you've missed it, this was the winning design: http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/c0.31.843.403/p843x403/424698_494071253955754_1936749927_n.jpg I personally, enjoy this art myself~! I hope they'll release it - even if its in Japan I miiight be pondering to buy it overseas. |
Well, they could always put up Hearts as a downloadable eShop title on the 3DS. o3o
If they don't release it, then I'm still happy with Graces f and Xillia. xD; Also, I'll definitely be grabbing one of those T-Shirts when they release it! It looks awesome. : D |
I'm perfectly happy with the titles I have too~ <3 I'm saving up for a PS3 solely to play Xillia. And for an opportunity to fully play Graces f. But yes... then I'd have to support the console by buying games like, I dunno, Disgaea? (But I love Disgaea too, so that won't be a problem~!)
They have other T-shirts too, like this one: http://sphotos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/582831_490319817664231_616952720_n.jpg *Power Hammer... so OP ;w;* Well, I have another question for you all - Which Tales game, in your opinion, had the best ending? (not counting credits) Because as much as I love Vesperia... I felt Abyss had more of a strong and emotional ending. It was really great, and the best in my opinion. <3 Destiny II comes in second tied with Symphonia. |
Which Tales game, in your opinion, had the best ending? (not counting credits)
Well! The only Tales games I've actually finished are Symphonia, Abyss and Innocence, so... I'd have to say Symphonia. It really finished the story well, and leaves you with a really strong feeling of satisfaction. It was also quite emotional as well, from what I can remember. The Abyss ending felt somewhat rushed to me, but hey! That's just me. |
Yeah, Symphonia's was awesome, but it was kind of a giant tease how it ended with Lloyd -just- as he was about to name the New World Tree, but, I guess it was for the best (ended in a more dramatic way, teehehe) and with some good speculations~

Also I JUST discovered the solution to my obsession of identifying every enemy in Abyss. After 800 hours of playing, I dicovered Anise can use Inspect Eye on Colosseum enemies. Since Magic Lens can't be used on them, I've given up on identifying them until just now. I don't know how I just thought of this after 800 hours but it's finally done. Yay. |
