how did you beat the E4? (R/G/B/Y)
I did the stupidest yet funnest thing in yellow. I had a copy of RED's team only horribly underleveled (all 4 starters, snorlax, lapras -- only like 39-40) and so what I did was I spent all of my 200K on hyper potions, revives, full heals, and ultra balls. so I had 49 hyper potions and revives, 20 ultra balls, and 45 full heals. having spent all of my money (had 1K left XD) I proceeded to GRIND AGAINST THE ELITE FOUR. but I didn't use any items. after I lost to loreli like ten times I was like, "THIS TIME'S FOR SERIOUSLY" and I did what I called the 'believe in yourself strategy -- I used (by the end of the league) half of my hyper potions/revives. I legit, nearly blacked out seventeen times and I was like "LOL LAPRAS REVIVE LOL" and it went on until the opponent made a mistake.
my favorite was lapras/blastoise VS aerodactyl. it basically went like, REVIVE, HYPER BEAM, REVIVE, HYPER BEAM, until it missed once and I got in a surf from lapras. that's literally how I did it. it was lol. my finishing party (only charizard left alive against flareon -- dig FTW lol): http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/e/ed/Spr_3e_006.gif CHARIZARD - lv 42 fly ember dig cut (yes, shameful, but no-one else) http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/e/eb/Spr_3e_009.gif BLASTOISE - lv 42 water gun skull bash submission ice beam http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/0/06/Spr_3e_131.gif LAPRAS - lv 43 surf ice beam thunderbolt psychic http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/c/cb/Spr_3e_003.gif VENUSAUR - lv 41 razor leaf (crit FTW) vine whip tackle leech seed http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/e/e3/Spr_3e_025.gif PIKACHU - lv 41 thunderbolt thundershock skull bash (lol mouse) double team http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/f/f2/Spr_3e_143.gif SNORLAX - lv 41 body slam earthquake amnesia rest looking at the above, I lol'd at my luck. so, how'd you guys do it? and your ending party, if you remember. |
I used the missingno cheat. Talking to the dude that got his coffee, Flying to Cinnabar Island, placing the item i wanted to dupe (in this case Rare Candy), and surfing the coast. Bam crap load of Rare Candies. Power lvl power lvl power lvl. Boom 100, Awwww wait i need to buy iron, carbos etc.. "Thank you Celadon Mart". Repeat the above. Alright lets go kick some E4 butt.
|
The first time it was by pure luck. I did the noobish thing of overtraining one Pokemon (Venusaur) and somehow managed to get through the E4 and Gary with it, god only knows how. Don't ask me what level it was or what moves it had, it was years ago now.
I believe my 'proper' team for the E4 on Blue was Fearow, Blastoise, Sandslash and Articuno. |
Originally, when I first played Pokemon Red, I wouldn't only train one Pokemon. So yeah, basically a overlevelled Charizard. XD
I know recently in Pokemon Yellow, I used Pikachu, Charizard, Blastoise, Venasaur, Mew (Mew glitch) and Nidoking. :> |
I still have my red version and im lookn at it right now. Its been forever since I played it. My team is all Lv. 100"s and few more in PC box as well. Main team that I beat the elite 4 with Rydon, Charizard, snorlax, Starmie, alakazam, and Persion. ;)
|
I remember having so much fun with Missingno. and the Missingno. glitch via Cinnabar. Got all my Pokes up to level 100, then went E4 with my Butterfree and Blastoise :D
|
I have beaten this game so many times with so many different combinations that it is hard to remember what I used my first time. I usually go with Venusaur as a starter though. The rest are always changing
|
I don't remember what I used, but I know Gyarados and Charizard were involved. And probably a Vileplume, knowing me. I tend to always end up with one on Red version, lol. As for Yellow and Blue, I can't even remember what I used. Pikachu and Blastoise were probably on the team, respectively.
|
I cheated and caught Mew. <3
|
An ungodly amount of grinding, or to be more precise, wild pokemon genocide. I think Red was my only game at the time, so I couldn't trade in stronger Pokemon and this was long before I learned about Missingno.
|
I always just push against them until I beat them. I had Blue, and I remember exploiting the Missingno cheat a bit too much. XD
|
I'm not sure what Pokemon I used, but I remember using the MissingNo. item duplication glitch to pump my lv.70-80's to lv.90-100.
|
I think that the first time I ever beat the E4 was on blue with only a Venusaur. I was too lazy to train other pokemon back then. More recently, I have been trying to beat the E4 with many different combinations of pokemon to try and use some that I have never used before

My most recent Hall of Fame in Red version:
Snorlax: Level 39- REALLY useful against Blue. Amnesia + Thunderbolt kicked ***. Hypno: Level 38- Thanks to Psychic types being so broken, Hypno was able to beat Bruno without too much effort. Nidoking: Level 38- My main Dragonite slayer, thanks to the Agility glitch and Ice Beam. Fearow: Level 38- Pretty useful at taking out Blue's Executor and several of Agatha's pokemon (thanks to them having paper-thin Defense). Venusaur: Level 38- Broken Razor Leaf FTW. Did a lot of damage against Lorelei and Bruno's Onixes. Gyrados: Level 37- Blizzard to damage Lance's team, and Thunder to help sweep Lorelei. As you can see, I was REALLY low leveled (I had made a bet with my friend that it was possible to beat the E4 under level 40). I also needed several items. I was pretty freaked out against Blue because I had forgotten that you can't heal on his floor, so I had 3 fainted Pokemon already. But in the end, Snorlax was able to cause a lot of damage and win me the championship. |
Mine? Well, I started last month and I already knew the MissingNo glitch so got infinite rare candies. I still wanted a challenge and I only lvled them up to 60. Proceeded to beat the Elite 4 with this team:
Charizard (69) Pikachu (65) Pidgeot (63) Vileplume (62) Lapras (60) Kadabra (60) |
It was like 10 years ago on Red I believe. I cant remember all the Pokemon I had but I know I had Venasaur who was my strongest and a lvl 20 Lapras. Back then I didnt really take the time to train my pokemon. I took Bulbasaur as my starter and he never left the first slot so all I did was battle with him over and over and over and I think I beat the whole Elite 4 with Just Venasaur and I dont recall using any revives. I really didnt know what those were during that time.
|
All I remember from my first time was that I didn't know that you had to go back to pallet town. So, I successfully grinded my Charmander to 36 before getting to Viridian Forest, thinking that I had to get him really high and then I could just go to the Pokemon league.
Nowadays, I exclusively do challenges, so my team is whatever challenge I'm doing. Mostly Monotypes and Solos. |
By raising them to Levels 69-74 or around there... I don't recall exactly, it was over 10 years ago xD
I know that Blastoise, Persian, and Electrode were among my team members, perhaps Nidoqueen as well. All raised through boring grinding in Victory Road... I wouldn't find about Missingno until later xD |
I had Articuno, Vaporeon, Ninetales, Dragonair, Raichu, and Butterfree in Blue. Articuno was the most powerful in my team during the E4 despite the type disadvantages. For Red, I had the same team, except that I had a Lapras instead of Ninetales. Lapras kinda failed on me. That time, Dragonair was the most powerful in my team, it was a level 65 when I completed the E4 (holding an Everstone).
|
I tried and tried without saving, and finally I had figured out which of my pokémon that could beat which of the Elite 4's. So I used a certain pattern of attacks and came out victorious. First time I heard the ending song and the Hall Of Fame song was just epic... Yellow version.
My pokémon the very first time were around lvls 40-50. With strategy, it was enough. |
It's been awhile, so I don't quite remember, but I think I just used Blastoise the first time through (I didn't have a team back then). So, it was probably a Blastoise in the 60s or so that knew Surf, Hydro Pump, Water Gun, and Skull Bash. Yep, great move variety, I know.
In a subsequent playthrough, I attempted to create a "team" right before the Elite Four, but I hadn't trained it much. It looked something like: -Blastoise (lvl 60-ish?) -Zapdos (low 50s) -Articuno (low 50s) -Charmeleon (upper 20s/low 30s) -Ivysaur (upper 20s) -Snorlax (low 30s) None of them had good moveset variety. I finally figured out that I could beat the Elite Four at much lower levels if I actually made a decent team, but I used to refuse to move Blastoise from the first slot in my party, which made it a little difficult to train my other Pokemon. |
It has been far too long. I can vaguely remember though.
Champ the Blastoise Piddles the Pidgeot Pig the Primeape Mr.Fish the Gyarados Jen the Raichu I think the last one was a Diglett or something. I remember I had overtrained my Blastiose, and I had an affinity for bad nicknames. |
I only remember my last time (last night), but I had a level 63 Raichu, 71 Mew (long story about getting him), 54 Sandslash, 54 Gyarados, 62 Dragonite, and a level 44 Snorlax
|
I've restarted Gold and Silver sooo many times, (Well actually, I had both games 'cuz two different people got me it for Christmas, so I always restarted with Gold and kept Silver with all my "awesome" Pokemon) but considering I didn't really know what I was doing at the time, (although I remember mainly sticking to Strength with a Feraligatr because it had stronger attack; some logic was there) I usually just muscled through it. I just overleveled and killed everything that way. Whoo. XD

I remember I got Pokemon Blue a few years ago (I was roughly 8 or 9 years old) and looking back on it now I realise I did the stupidest thing to do. So last night I was rummaging through my room and found my old Gameboy with the Pokemon blue cartridge inside and decided to play. I noticed I was at the Pokemon League about to take on the Elite Four (I guess I found it too difficult before). Before I battled Lorelei I quickly checked my Pokemon team and items. I had 81x Pokeballs, 12x Ultraballs, 4x Max Potions and 4x Revives. My Pokemon team consisted of a level 77 Venusaur, a level 38 Butterfree, a level 31 Hitmonchan, a level 14 Farfetch'd, a level 20 Pikachu and a level 18 Lapras. I had completely over-leveled my starter Pokemon and didn't bother training my other Pokemon. I was worried but decided to pull through and try. Eventually took down the entire Elite Four (including Gary) with only my Venusaur and Butterfree, with a small dose of help from my Lapras, and only using 2 Max Potions and 2 Revives. Not sure if it was luck or if it was because I now know how to utilize the moves of Pokemon more effectively (probably the second one :)).
