Pens? Pencils?

At school or work, or anywhere actually, what do you feel more comfortable writing with: a pen or a pencil?

I rather use pens, I've been using them so much in school I've gotten used to it. I hardly use pencils now. Just feels different to me. xD

So, pens or pencils?

Yuoaman November 15th, 2010 2:20 PM

Pens, the more 'rough' feeling I get when writing with a pencil just feels odd now.

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ November 15th, 2010 2:29 PM

Pens. I don't like how pencil tends to "fade" over time. And yes, I'll even do my math homework in pen, even if it means multiple cross-outs and me having to go through multiple pieces of lined paper.

Sammi November 15th, 2010 2:33 PM

Pens. Since I'm left-handed, I always get a big fat smear on the bottom of my left hand after prolonged writing, and it's much worse with pencil. Also, pen is easier for me to read, since ink is usually darker than pencil. And it doesn't smear! I mourn the loss of some of my writing due to smeared pencil...

Ballpoint Pen > anything

With a regular pen, my handwriting is less of a mess, but I'm writing slow as hell and after a while, my hand is full of ink.

With a pencil, I have no problems, except that the writing is not that consisting. Also, sharpening is annoying.

Livewire November 15th, 2010 4:51 PM

Pens. Ballpoint and Ink, Because they make my handwriting somewhat legible. xD

Fine tip, black pen.

I hate using pencils because it feels like I am going back to being a child, unless it is drawing.

^This.
Explains everything needed in my post.

Pens. Since pencil writing can fade after some times and also when I write I put the side of my hand on the paper and the pencil led smears on my hand.

Although I'd rather use pencils for artwork/drawing.

PlatinumDude November 15th, 2010 5:57 PM

I'd rather use pencils than pens because I can always erase the mistakes I made in a cleaner way.

-Scourge- November 15th, 2010 6:29 PM

I like to use pencils more, but like others have said, they seem to fade away after a while, so pens are the answer to that, but my final answer is pencils.

Zeffy November 15th, 2010 6:33 PM

Depends on whatever I'm doing. If its something like writing, computing stuff, and anything else I use pens. But when I'm bored and I want to draw stuff here and there, I use pencils. I'd prefer fine pointed pens over anything, though. o3o

professor plum November 15th, 2010 6:42 PM

I prefer pens by far. It just flows better, for me.

Ballpoint, I guess.

This is one of my favorite pens.

Although I like using pens because the ink just kind of slides out effortlessly, I've grown more accustomed to pencils because we're required to use pens in my school.

EmeraldSerenade November 15th, 2010 9:26 PM

Pencils.

But I do like drawing with pens.

Soari November 15th, 2010 9:44 PM

For most of my notes, etc, I prefer a lead pencil. But, since most of what I hand write are mostly the rough notes so, I have to use a pen, so I prefer a fountain ink pen. They're are smoother to write with, the point doesn't break, ink flow is consistent and they don't need sharpening. xD

curiousnathan November 15th, 2010 10:02 PM

I used to be able to write consistantly neat using pencils in primary school, but ever since I have been using pen for a longer amount of time, I have somewhat gotten used to the way they feel. So everytime I go back to writing with pencils, it just feels awfully odd to me. :\
Plus I hate the mess of sharpening, lead breakage and fading.
But since I write with my left hand pen's do like to smudge all of thier ink onto the side of my hand! D:

Tribal Ebony November 15th, 2010 10:21 PM

Well, I prefer pen as you can write smoother. And when i make mistakes, I use white-Out

Oh yeah, I forgot about white-out.
I use it all of the time if I have it with me that is. :P

Kura November 15th, 2010 10:31 PM

I use just about everything @[email protected] Since I hardly need to do any writing or math at school.. I'll do all my "homework" in pens, pencils, markers, sharpies, paint, charcoal, digital..

@[email protected] You name it.

Cherrim November 15th, 2010 10:50 PM

I used to do everything in pencil but now I literally only use pencils when writing tests (since erasing is more legible than scratching out). Partially because it's faster, and also because I don't have to press as hard (it's better for my wrists), I use pens almost exclusively now.

I use Sharpie pens. :) They're easily the best pen brand I've ever used.

RYOUKI November 15th, 2010 10:58 PM

Pencil. Wait, no, a mechanical pencil. A pilot one at that. I only use pens when taking test and writing notes, but other than that, I use a mechanical pencil. I'm afraid of my pen losing ink, that's why. It's also nice to take out the lead on the mechanical pencil. Haha.

Jack O'Neill November 15th, 2010 11:07 PM

It depends on the situation. For official documents, I use a pen. For tests, notes, and just about anything else, I use a pencil.

parallelzero November 15th, 2010 11:40 PM

I hate pencils. Just the feeling you get against the paper is... ew. Pens are so smooth. <3 Though I hate exams because I'm forced to use a pencil. v.v;

Brendino November 16th, 2010 12:22 AM

It all depends on the mood that I'm in. Usually, I prefer pens. However, I just picked up a set of really nice mechanical pencils, and that's what I've been doing all of my writing in recently.
