Mute moments
Is there a part of certain games where you just have to mute it because it sounds bad, scary, etc? I normally don't like muting parts of a game because I love game music, but when I have to face Redeads (in any Zelda game), I will mute that mess. I do not want to hear all the screaming and humping and UGH. I had most of the Shadow Temple muted in OoT, actually. lol I also mute the game when I'm playing Red/Blue/Yellow and something uses Screech. Gah. :(
|
Not really.
The only game I have really 'muted' is Fifa because I don't want to hear the same commentary over and over again and I normally have my music on. Haha. |
The only thing I mute in games are the annoying children and online 'tough guys' found on XBL.

Oh, sometimes I mute my DS when I go the Fusion section in Devil Survivor. That's some creepy BGM. I once remember muting my Gameboy when going to Lavender Town. I mean, the BGM there was effing scary. I mean, I was playing it at night and suddely after going through Rock Tunnel, a creepy music suddenly starts playing on the town where Pokemon who died where buried. Talk about a heart attack, and I was like 10 back then. ._.
Though usually I never mute my game, only if the battery is low or if it's bothering my sister. |
Mute a game because its scary? I've never even considered doing that...after all, if I turned the sound down, I wouldn't hear the enemy creeping up on me until it took a bite out of me...I nearly turned the sound down when I entered the castle in Resident Evil 4, though. Those cultists chanting really frayed my nerves...
Anyways...I've muted games a few times before. I gave up with Final Fantasy XIII and just put my own music on, because the battle music got on my nerves and every time one of them spoke I got a strong urge to set fire to something. Although FFXIII doesn't really count as a video game in my opinion, so I'm not sure if this counts...I muted Metroid: Other M as well, for the same reasons. Lousy soundtrack (excluding Ridley's theme, which was as awesome as ever) and Samus' voice actor...lets not go there. I have a tendency to mute games if I get stuck in dungeons for a long time, though. Say, about three or four hours. If I listen to the same music over and over again, I start to lose track of time and become very irritable. |
I used to mute games I thought had 'scary' music, like Luigi's Mansion. Now I don't do that :3
|
I sometimes mute New Super Mario Bros, because I sometimes find the music annoying.
|
There are a couple songs in guitar hero I have to mute to actually do well on.

I know I wasn't the only one who did it during her speeches. I don't generally mute a game. If the game has music, it feels like a waste for the composer to make music that I'm not listening to, and if it's sound effects, the sound effects usually immerse me in the game more. Not even Dragon Quest V and its completely mediocre soundtrack made me push the volume slider. |
I don't mute the video game music unless I really don't like the music that's playing at the moment (like Pokemon R/S/E's Route 113 music). I also mute the music if I don't want to bother the people around me while I'm playing.

I usually mute when I'm in a public place. Though I sometimes don't do that at my dad's.
When I was a bit younger and we first had a Gamecube and all, I usually muted around the third Krazoa test in Starfox Adventures because I felt the music distracted me (pfffft, like the scene that took place didn't). I also quickly muted TWEWY when I first started it because I didn't want dad to hear Neku say "hell" in that term, though honestly, I find what I did then kind of foolish. It's not like he was saying anything really vulgar. |
I muted my Pokemon, the looping music will drive you mad. Thank Jebus for Pandora.
|
I played TWEWY on mute. Did not like it's soundtrack.
Otherwise, if I'm stuck in an area for a while and the loop is starting to get on my nerves, I'll turn down the volume but not mute it. |
lol, Yoshi's Island with the annoying crying coming from baby Mario. Clearly remember lowering the volume for that game.

on topic i usually mute when i get red health in pokemon black. the music is hoooorrible, and when i'm vsing a gymleader or someother main boss, it completely destroys the awesome mood. |
I play nothing on mute. Except Portal because the clanging around in the maintenance areas and the slightly creepy music got annoying.
@above WHAT. I mean, I always muted the music on the /other/ games when I went down to red. But BLACK! THE MUSIC GETS BUT MORE EPIC AND YOU'RE ALL "OMG WILL I SURVIVE THIS" AND STUFF! |
Most of the games I play online have the music muted. I like listening to music through Winamp when gaming.
|
IN ANY GAME WHERE IT BEEPS WHEN YOUR HEALTH IS LOW.
Also: Spoiler:
|
I always play Pokemon with the volume off.
I'll hit mute when playing San Andreas ONLY when I have CJ go for "coffee". |
Nah.

Except for boss battles and other major events with more epic music, I usually play Pokemon on mute. The music is okay, but my MP3 collection is better :3
|
I have voices muted Sins of a Solar Empire, usually. I suppose it's mainly because I only like having a female voice tell me when something has been built or is under attack or whatever...
I also have the suit voice off on Crysis; it doesn't annoy me but it's redundant with all the visual cues. |
If you've played Golden Axe, then you'll understand why I mute that >__<
|
I agree with muting Black/White when your HP is low. That music ruins the mood, especially in a battle that has epic music on its own (N theme, rival theme, legendary theme, etc).
