Console Wars

WAIT. WAIT. This isn't a thread to facilitate an argument that inevitably goes nowhere. It's just a question:

What do you think of the console wars?

As for me: I think they're sort of pointless but I do enjoy defending my decision. But I really don't think it should've gone to the point where it is now. o_o

KanadeTenshi November 18th, 2010 5:30 AM

People who can't enjoy and keep moaning the graphics are bad in another console despite minimal to no difference at all.
And if they're that concerned about graphics, a PC is the way to go.

Captain Fabio November 18th, 2010 6:53 AM

I am not bothered any more about which console someone goes for; it is rather childish to argue about it. My opinion on each console is:

PS3 = The console I own and the best for me. This is because there are more games I like on the PS3. The added functionality of the Blu-Ray drive made it easier to buy, but more expensive.

xBox 360 = The more common console since it is cheaper and has a lot of games for it. Only started to like it since they finally brought out a version with build in wifi. Still has some good games.

Wii = The console that doesn't interest me one little bit. I think it is very much a family console now and doesn't have any games that appeal to me, what so ever.

PC = On paper, the best 'console' out there. However, you will have to spend more money on it to get it up to a good standard.

That is pretty much it for me. In order that I like them:

1. PS3
2. PC
3. xBox 360
4. Wii

Legobricks November 18th, 2010 9:17 AM

I'm part of the "PC-gaming master-race" as Yahtzee has called it, so I'm a little distanced from console wars. They don't affect me and I can play my sometimes absurdly complex games with cliff-faces for learning curves in the relative peace that their currently smaller fanbases afford.

There's one thing that has always seemed silly, though: All the console gamers gabbing off about the things on the 'Net clearly have computers as well, maybe some low-powered laptop but if you combined the money spent on both a PC and a console you could in many cases instead have one device that did both things well, ie. a gaming PC. Of course, my such assertions take me into PC vs console wars territory... I understand the reasons for having two seperate machines; most of them seem logically refutable but the preferences of individuals are not and nor is the social aspect the Wii has most notably capitalised on.

Sydian November 18th, 2010 2:53 PM

The way I see it is that all consoles have pros and cons. Some die hard fanboys are just too stubborn to admit the flaws of their favorable console, and thus the console wars are the result.

Each and every console has their pros and cons and advantages and disadvantages over the other, inevitably.

I like the PS3 because of its features, interface, game exclusives, and stuff that the other two consoles don't have. But someone else may like another console for another something.

The 100 Mega Shock November 18th, 2010 5:06 PM

the ps3 has no games.

vinylscratchp0n3 November 18th, 2010 5:55 PM

Darn, JakeyBoy took my idea!

I think it's silly. The main thing that has money spent on for the production of a game is the graphics, but only on PS3 and xBox. The Wii is the only console that has games with actual plot and gameplay. Call of Duty, for example, there are people beating the whole storyline in a couple of days. They're not hardcore gamers that have no life.
But Call of Duty automatically takes most if it away. All the people at my school think that Gran Turismo 2 has horrible graphics and that you can't even see anything.
They're wrong. *cough*Atari 2600*cough* Anyway, the PS3 and xbox have no games that are good interest me except for GT5 and Forza Motorsports 3, respectively.

Purple Materia November 18th, 2010 6:21 PM

Absolutely dumb. I never really cared about fanboyism.

There are significant pros with every console, just as there are significant cons. If you love your console, that's fine. If you're gonna be a jerk about it to everyone, then that's not fine.

There isn't one system to rule them all, you know. It's all a matter of preference.

Luck November 18th, 2010 7:03 PM

its pretty stupid man, theyre just complaining over pointless stuff.

anyways, the 360 is obviously the best console, everyone nos this.

Rogue planet November 18th, 2010 7:23 PM

Whilst the console wars are taking place, the PC gamers are laughing because they know they are superior and don't need to reduce themselves to such levels. But anyway...

Wii is for people that actually have some sort of a life, and friends. Wii is enjoyable for the casual gamer who likes to play with their friends. That's why it's the worst console because everyone knows hardcore gamers have no friends.

Then it boils down to PS3 and Xbox. Xbox makes you pay to play online, PS3 doesn't, but the console also costs more. If you have friends that play online on one of the consoles then that can really make a difference. I had an Xbox and it was fun whilst I had friends to play with, without them it was pretty dull and the XBL community is awful. I'd probably side with the PS3 even though I've never played it, simply because the exclusive games seem far more enticing, imo, (Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo, Killzone, God of War; whilst the Xbox has Halo and Forza and I'm not a fan of them really) and the fact that you don't have to pay to play online. If you have the money, go for PS3, if you don't have the money, then save up for a PS3. The only reason I would rather get an Xbox is if I had friends that played it too.

Åzurε November 18th, 2010 7:27 PM

And this is why I like handhelds. xD

I have a Wii, but out of the three I think I'd prefer a PS3. And that's all I have to add to such a debate. lol.

PlatinumDude November 18th, 2010 8:14 PM

I think they're pointless. Fighting over which console is better is going nowhere. The fact that they have their own flaws doesn't mean that they should fight over which console is better.

twocows November 18th, 2010 9:56 PM

Please try to make posts with more than just a YouTube link or a meme. This thread is for discussion of consoles, it's not ebaums.

Wings Don't Cry November 19th, 2010 12:28 AM

I'm still on a PS2 and I play PSone games on it as well so I don't really care if the PS3 or the X-Box360 is better because either way they're both too expensive for me. What I really hate is when my friends come over and we play DBZ Tenkaichi 2 and they're complaining it's too blurry and they can't tell what's going on. So I'm just like "Still clearer than Halo 3."

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ November 19th, 2010 12:34 AM

To be honest, i care more about what games are available for each console rather than their capabilities and features. After all, what good is a powerful, full-featured console if none of the games available for it appeal to you? With that said, it still comes down to a case where each system has its own system exclusives that make them stand out from the rest, and from what I've seen, no console really has a definite upper hand.

I don't spend my time defending one console or berating another. I don't see the point since different people will have different tastes in both console capabilities and the games available for them.

The second I read this, I ran to the window in a frenzy to see if pigs were finally flying. I came back disappointed. Why did you give me false hope? D=

That said, I own all of the consoles, and I prefer my 360. The online community is the same garbage in all the consoles (and PC is worse), so really, it comes down to what has a better game library. For me, that's 360, aside from one or two games I like on the PS3. The Wii... well my Wii has been collecting dust for a while. The last Wii game I bought was my first one in over a year.

インフェルノの津波 November 19th, 2010 12:54 AM

Haven't seen you post much, PZ.

Anyway, I have no idea what any of you are talking about. I use a DSi, what now?

fenyx4 November 19th, 2010 1:34 AM

Ugh...I wish they didn't exist. I've always wanted ONE video game console, and ONE computer operating system. But alas, it isn't so. And it's worse that we have not two, but three videogame companies competing. And if you have one system but like another system's version exclusive, you have to buy an entire second system just for one game. -_- That's one of the main reasons I prefer the Nintendo Wii, as it has more version exclusive games freaking series, that I like. Xbox 360 just has Halo and Gears of War basically (oh, and Xbox Live), and PS3 has no games at all Metal Gear Solid, GoW, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, and Ratchet and Clank.

Personally, I think that the "war" between PS3 and Xbox 360 fans is a bit more pointless, because aside from XBox Live, version exclusives, and media format playback, they almost seem like the same freaking system under two different brands. Their controller layouts highly resemble each other, both on them seem equal/nearly equal in terms of graphics, and they constantly get the same games. The last reason is especially why I'm irritated, because the Wii keeps getting shafted of certain big-name games. Soul Calibur 4? PS3/XB360 only. Street Fighter 4? PS3/XB360 only. Final Fantasy XIII? PS3/XB360 only. Prince of Persia (2008)? PS3/XB360 only. BioShock? PS3/XB360 only. DBZ Raging Blast? PS3/XB360 only. It gets really annoying after a while. Either release a game exclusively on one system, or release it on all three systems. Don't go the 2/3 route and diss Wii owners like that. :cer_pissed: Anyway, Super Smash Brothers Brawl greatly helps in alleviating some of the disappointment produced from the Wii missing those aforementioned games.

And anyway, at least I actually have legitimate proof now that a certain videogame console is actually/officially deemed good for my health. :D :cer_boogie:

Sure but it would probably not be anywhere near profitable for companies to spend time and money coding engines, working around a much less powerful system and adapting the game to a Wii control setup for games like these where the majority of the target audience probably own a 360 or PS3.

^^^ This.

Wii:
Pros:

Great for almost anyone, there are family-friendly games (Mario, Sonic, and so on), teen-oriented games (Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Okami, so on), and adult-oriented games (Dead Rising, CAll of Duty, etc)
Online gaming is free
It started the motion control gaming that Sony and Microsoft are just picking up on

Cons:

Controls get a bit clunky
Controls are hard to master
Not the best graphics
Online lags horribly sometimes
No DVDs or Blu-Ray

PS3:
Pros:

The few exclusives are great
Quite a few of the shared games are excellent (hello, Fallout and Call of Duty!)
Free online
Blu-Ray

Cons:

Not many exclusives
[note: I don't play the PS3 much, so I don't know any other cons, if someone could add to this list, it'd be greatly appreciated]

360:
Pros:

Comfortable controls
Good exclusives/used-to-be-exclusives (Bioshock, Eternal Sonata)
Great games on the Xbox Live Arcade (including remakes of Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie!!!)

Cons:

RRoD (apparently very rare now)
You have to pay for online
Doesn't play Blu-Ray

Ninja Caterpie November 20th, 2010 1:46 AM

Most arguments on the internet, console wars being no exception, are a bunch of morons with different opinions forming sides against each other.

LordDarkrai November 20th, 2010 9:31 AM

I can care less about the console wars and I find it to be abit pointless.
