Fictional universe

You are given the offer of being absorbed into a fictional universe. This cannot be your own fictional universe, it has to be the work of another. Either a TV series, movie, or novel. You will become a character in this work of fiction and it will function in the same way as the real world, except also containing all of the fictional elements included in the story. Your actions in this universe will affect the manner in which the writer(s) portrays the story, so if you kill a character in the universe, it will be reflected in the real world to the viewers/readers.

However there is a catch, if your character is incredibly unpopular with the fan-base, the writers will kill you off. So every action you make will judge whether you can survive in this fantasy world or not.

No friends or family may join you. Although you are also given the option of erasing all memory of the previous world and once you enter the fictional universe, as far as you know you have always been there (as if you were suffering amnesia, you would have no memories assigned to you) this is not compulsory however.

Would you accept the offer?

What work of fiction would you choose to form your universe?

Would you take the option of having your memories erased so that you won't miss any of your family or friends in the real world?

You can also describe how you'd behave in this world in order to maintain popularity if you wish.

Would you accept the offer? Yes, I would.
What work of fiction would you choose to form your universe? Harry Potter.
Would you take the option of having your memories erased so that you won't miss any of your family or friends in the real world? I would, yes, and if it were possible to erase the memory of my family and friends of me - like it is in the Harry Potter universe - than I would erase theirs myself.

But this seems like such an interesting concept!

Stratos99 November 22nd, 2010 12:58 PM

Would you accept the offer?
>_> not with all of the variables you're applying to this hypothetical situation. I wouldn't take the chance to live in a ~fantasy world~ if I had to maintain popularity or face getting killed. Or having to say goodbye to my friends and family, you're proposition to have my mind erased is completely awful and wouldn't offer me any consolation. The consolation would come after the fact, and I wouldn't even know it, but I wouldn't choose it to begin with because I care way too much about my family to just leave them and forget they ever existed. They helped to shape me into who I am today and they deserve to see the end product just as much as I want them to, I'd rather work towards success in this world rather than having it in a fantasy world where the people I know wouldn't be there to see it.

That's my answer but for the sake of finishing the poll:

What work of fiction would you choose to form your universe?
The Red King series or Charlie Bone as some may know it.

Would you take the option of having your memories erased so that you won't miss any of your family or friends in the real world?
No, it's the least I could do to keep them in my memories since I'm being completely selfish taking up this offer.

Jack O'Neill November 22nd, 2010 5:09 PM

Would you accept the offer?
Yes, but only if I'm given the opportunity to perform a little...research first. Also, in the event the work concludes or my character is killed off, whichever happens first, I am to move on to the next work on my list; once the list is exhausted, I am to be returned to the real world in perfect health and with my memory intact.

What work of fiction would you choose to form your universe?
Where would I begin? Code Geass, Death Note, Gurren Lagann, any of the Gundam timelines, Ace Combat, Call of Duty, Command & Conquer, Persona, and the Stargate franchise would all be good places to start.

Would you take the option of having your memories erased so that you won't miss any of your family or friends in the real world?
No, because I need my memory completely intact for what I plan to do, namely putting right what once went wrong.

Detox November 22nd, 2010 5:14 PM

Would you accept the offer? Yep

What work of fiction would you choose to form your universe? ...Soul Eater / Vocaloid

Would you take the option of having your memories erased so that you won't miss any of your family or friends in the real world? No

Ayselipera November 22nd, 2010 5:25 PM

Would you accept the offer? Yes, I'd never pass that up!

What work of fiction would you choose to form your universe? Anything that involves sailing on the high seas. I like the sense of adventure the ocean brings about and the mix of danger being at every turn. Something like Treasure Island is what I have in mind. I should also mention that I would love to live within the movies The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly or Dances with Wolves. Both also have a high stakes/adventure/danger feel to them that I'd love to be apart of. I realize these aren't really your generic fantasy choices, but they are fictional.

Would you take the option of having your memories erased so that you won't miss any of your family or friends in the real world? No, the memories I've shared with my friends and family have made me who I am today, without those memories I would be a shell of myself. I'd take the option of erasing their memories as Patchisou said, if that was possible.

countryemo November 22nd, 2010 5:34 PM

Would you accept the offer?
Hmm why not? Real world is getting :(
What work of fiction would you choose to form your universe?

Would you take the option of having your memories erased so that you won't miss any of your family or friends in the real world?

femtrooper November 22nd, 2010 5:41 PM

Would you accept the offer? No
What work of fiction would you choose to form your universe? Pokémon
Would you take the option of having your memories erased so that you won't miss any of your family or friends in the real world? This is why, knowing I would be forgetting my family...yeah, nope. That's too sad! I would love to be a real-life Pokémon trainer though! :(

Sammi November 22nd, 2010 6:46 PM

Would you accept the offer?
Considering that living or dying is based off of popularity, no. I'm afraid I'd die rather quickly over there. XD

What work of fiction would you choose to form your universe?
If I absolutely had to, probably Pokemon, simply because it's the series I've been around the most.

Would you take the option of having your memories erased so that you won't miss any of your family or friends in the real world?
Probably. It'd lessen the pain a bit for me, anyway. (Again, assuming I'd go in the first place!)

PlatinumDude November 22nd, 2010 6:59 PM

Would you accept the offer?: That would depend on what fictional universe I'm entering.

What work of fiction would you choose to form your universe?: Either Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, or Harry Potter.

Would you take the option of having your memories erased so that you won't miss any of your family or friends in the real world?:
No, I wouldn't.

Of course you can alter the rules if you want to. Just because I'm the creator of the thread doesn't mean I'm God of the thread. I just added that catch to see if people would still choose to accept, despite the threat of death.

I personally wouldn't accept. If I wasn't killed off by the writers, then I'd be killed by the universe itself, seeing as all my favourite works of fiction are rather violent. It's unlikely I'd be able to survive.
I could possibly accept in the future despite this. Depends if I end up in a very bad situation or not. Currently I'm kind of content so I'm not quite ready or willing to put my life at risk.
What work of fiction? I don't know. I'd have to think about it a lot. I'd probably end up going with Death Note or something like that, so I can at least have an exciting time before my inevitable death.

I would also accept the option to erase my memories as well. Having your memories erased does not alter your personality in any way. You still react and think in the same way, you just can't remember your past or exactly why you act the way you do.

EmeraldSerenade November 23rd, 2010 10:11 AM

Would you accept the offer?
Yes.

What work of fiction would you choose to form your universe?
I can't say. Maybe... Pokemon? Or one of my favorite animes... :3

Would you take the option of having your memories erased so that you won't
miss any of your family or friends in the real world?

This sounds horrible, but yes, I would.I would also make everyone forget about me so they wouldn't miss me.

Rich Boy Rob November 23rd, 2010 10:36 AM

Would you accept the offer?
Yes.

What work of fiction would you choose to form your universe?
Either, Pokémon or Doctor Who. Pokémon because, well, it'd be awesome to be a Pokémon Trainer and own my own Ampharos. Doctor Who because time travel would be awesome, I wouldn't want to be the only one with The Doctor though (assuming that is in fact where I would be "written in to"), I would want a female companion aswell. If I could, I would replace The Doctor, but due to your rule, the community probably wouldn't like that and I would be retconned. Retcon bad.

Would you take the option of having your memories erased so that you won't miss any of your family or friends in the real world?
Hmm.... possibly. As others have said, I would erase their memories of me though, if not my friends then just my family.
Wait, hang on, if I didn't wipe myself from their memories, since they watch Doctor Who; would they recognise me?

An episode where Whoniverse me travels to the parallel dimension where Pokémon are real would be awesome, I could catch an Ampharos to take on my travels. Time travel + Ampharos (+ possibly other Pokémon) = Epic.

poopnoodle November 23rd, 2010 10:42 AM

Would you accept the offer? yes

What work of fiction would you choose to form your universe? was going to say LOST for the excitement, but that might be too stressful xD i'd choose Pokemon for it's simplicity. it wouldn't be difficult to maintain a likeable personality and the adventure would be exciting.

Would you take the option of having your memories erased so that you won't miss any of your family or friends in the real world? no. whether or not i could return to the real world it'd be depressing to lose the few i love, but i would want to retain all the knowledge i have now, i'd want to be completely myself.

Binary November 23rd, 2010 11:00 AM

Would you accept the offer?
Yes.

What work of fiction would you choose to form your universe?
Pokemon, maybe? XD; I think I'll be fairly popular, and the idea of adventure sounds good to me. Yeah, I've got a few moves, so no real anxiety of being killed off there. Hah. XD; Or maybe one of my favorite anime. I can't decide.

Would you take the option of having your memories erased so that you won't miss any of your family or friends in the real world?
Well, I don't want to remain glum about it, so maybe it would be the best thing to do. Yet, I still feel like those memories would be better off forever embedded in my heart, despite the pain.

Agent Clank November 23rd, 2010 11:52 AM

Great thread, Vendak :D

Would you accept the offer?
Why yes I would :3

What work of fiction would you choose to form your universe?
Naruto, Pokemon or DC Universe

Would you take the option of having your memories erased so that you won't miss any of your family or friends in the real world?
I think I would, because I would get universe home sick, and I would miss my family, so yeah I would.

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ November 24th, 2010 4:24 PM

Would you accept the offer? Yes.

What work of fiction would you choose to form your universe? Pretty Cure, but only if I end up playing a critical part (i.e., not just the random guy that gets saved from the bad guys).

Would you take the option of having your memories erased so that you won't miss any of your family or friends in the real world? Most likely, as long as their memories get "adjusted" as well. I'd imagine there would be enough going on with cute girls using magical powers to defeat evil without me also having to worry about people in an alternate dimension.
