A blast from the past, or futuristic fashion?

If you could choose to alter all of the current subcultures, fashion trends, music trends etc. to be ones of the past or ones of the future, which would you choose? Only trends are changed, technology and everything else to do with society stays the same.

With the past at least you know what you're getting. But you may be someone who looks forwards and take a gamble with the future where you don't know what you're getting.

There are no scary unforeseen circumstances like going to the future's trends and suddenly finding everyone is an alien hybrid.

America, Prohibition Era.

Why? Because I consider the fashion and trends of 1920s America to be amazing. Everyone dressed decently (not too much skin) while also maintaining a certain style which I find to be a cross between exceedingly elegant and downright cool. If, say, we were to complete the equation by changing following a different technological timeline (I know this is not allowed), I would also go for steampunk technology because, hey, steampunk and all its peculiarities is a mechanical engineer's dream. Cogs and gears, how everything fits together, and how it fits with the modern world is amazing. In essence, the contemporary fashions of 1920s America plus the steampunk technology associated with Victorian Britain. An excellent combination in my opinion.

Anything is allowed! As I said in another thread, being the creator of a thread doesn't make me the God of a thread, and I encourage anyone to adapt the situation in any way they wish, just as long as it stays on topic. I like your idea, I would never disallow it.

1980's without a doubt. Great, upbeat music, awesome fashion (leggings + legwarmers FTW) and back then cars weren't nearly as odd-looking as they are today.

More specifically, that span between 1985 and 1989 where I derive over half of my MP3 collection from.

Most of the awesome fashions of the (recent) past are still sort of showing up and making a modified comeback. Too far back in the past and things are just not my style. So, if I were to choose, I think I'd go with the future styles. Partially to see what elements from the past are used, but also to see the new ideas and whatnot.
