The world is full of...

I've found that a lot of people say that there's a lot of good in the world, while just as many people say that the world is a bad place and just something that you have to go through to really get to the good place, depending on your religion.

Do you think the world is full of good more so than bad?
Or is it more filled with bad than good?

Which type of person are you? Why?

Kura November 27th, 2010 12:31 PM

There is way more bad than good. You can see it all the time (just look at the people outside of your friend circle- or even INSIDE your friend circle.)
What's good is that the people who are considered good are genuinely great people who love to help others in the world. They sorta.. make up for all the bad around.

Humanity has a hope- but look around you and consider how many people you'd know who would lie, cheat, or steal for their own benefit (even if it's something tiny.)

If you're gonna ask "Which type of person are you?" then I guess a lot of people here would want to say "good." But generally everyone has good tendencies and bad. I do consider myself generally good but I admit that my biggest flaw is lack of patience. I lose patience with people who I consider to be dense without good reason, and end up getting really frustrated with them. I lose patience with just about everything- not getting to my goals fast enough, or losing patience with people that are passive aggressive. I just lose patience. I also become passionate with whatever I do- good OR bad. I do believe I have a lot of good tendencies that go along with my horoscope (weird how it becomes like that.) Like loyalty, and being giving, dependable, and really honest. I go out of my way to help people that I'm close to. I would never cheat others, nor do anything to bring others down. I also feel like I'm one of the few women nowadays who aren't promiscuous- and although many people consider me to be really pretty- I'm not the sort of person who uses that to take advantage of others. I'm conservative, but I also respect other people's opinions (unless their decision is hurtful to others.) But on the flip side, I am always ready to voice my own opinion if I believe that it could really help someone. I consider myself to be extremely perceptive and I enjoy trying to help benefit others. Unfortunately, many people are stubborn and take my opinion as an attack online instead of stepping back, taking what I say into consideration, and then saying to me "I get what you're saying and I'll try that/ I get what you're saying but I want to continue doing what I'm doing." It's etiquette..
Overall though, people who are friends with me know that I'm a very dependable person. Really loving and really giving. I love surprising people with little gifts, food I made for them, artwork.. or just surprising someone by visiting them. I like to do things for people I don't really know well, either.. because I just generally have a love for making people happy.
So.. in all.. as for saying "what sort of person do you think you are" I really can't say that. People have different perspectives on others.. so you can decide whatever you want, if that's your choice.

Do you think the world is full of good more so than bad? Or is it more filled with bad than good?
The world certainly sees both, but... I'm going to go with good. I think a big part of why people would say that the world is full of more bad than it is of good is because... we don't like bad. We can take for granted what is good because of all the bad. It's certainly easier to dwell on the bad, there is a lot of it: war, violence, disease, death, anger, poverty, etc. All of these things are bad, and they are major things. But a lot of good comes from just little things, like smiles C:, good grades C:, nice weather C: (rereading this... I'm a little scared of myself..). Not to mention the bigger things like helping those in need, friends, and family.

I would say that the world is full of more good things than it is of bad, but because some of the good things seem so... minor, or occur so often that sometimes we don't even notice them, they get lost in the more noticeable bad things.

Which type of person are you? Why?
So, yeah, I'm the person that sees more good in the world. Perhaps it's because that's just what I want to see. Everyone certainly sees and experiences both, but there are just so many things around us every day that are still good, and I don't think that what is bad can take that over.

The world is getting more corrupt than never seen before in my oponion.
You could trust and believe in people maybe.. 5-20 years back - or something.
Now you can hardly trust anyone.
On the world's nature part. It is getting really "Bad", nature is doing crazy the last few years, it's seems it's getting out of balance.
Back to the 'community world'; You'll see more people getting killed by some crazy people who lost their minds or just want to get ride of them for no reason.
More teenagers want to pledge suicide,
And some other ways of negativity; Emotional, Spiritual, Anxiously, Anxiety, heavly concern.
But also some parts in Assassinationly - Apathy, Apathetic, Heartless, etc.
That's all I guess; sorry for bad grammar. : o :

I think that humanity has a great potential for both good and evil, and people act in both ways. On the whole, though, it feels that humanity leans more towards bad. It seems that it's all people want to talk about sometimes, or maybe it's just my luck that it's all I see. There's so much of it it's kind of hard to remember some days that we're capable of good. :/
I try to look on the bright side of things, though. If anything, the world being so awful just means that when people do help each other out and do great things, it sticks out even more. It's not very reassuring sometimes.

As for me, I'd say I'm neither here nor there. I've done good things, I've done bad things. I try my best to be a good person but I'm only human.

Stellar November 27th, 2010 7:53 PM

Do you think the world is full of good more so than bad? Or is it more filled with bad than good?
Neither. When it comes to the nature of people, I don't believe in good or bad. It's ridiculous to use such vague terms to describe something so complex outside of casual conversation. If there is a division, then it's only between those who tend to do what they believe is right, and those who are simply apathetic and work for no one but themselves. I think the world is made up mostly of the latter, but I also believe that the state of things as they are now is due mostly to the former. It's amazing what people can accomplish when they believe in something more than themselves.

Which type of person are you? Why?
I'd like to think that I'm a "good" person and that I do what I believe is right. I catch myself getting caught up in selfish acts all the time, but when it really matters I think I would disregard my own desires for the good of those around me.

iRyu November 27th, 2010 8:13 PM

Spoiler:
This is slightly biased by religion

I see the world as a place God made good, but then we turned it bad.
I would elaborate but I would get religious and I don't want to piss off/offend anyone.

What type of person am I? I feel I'm a type of person that chooses to do good, in spite of the temptations of evil

Livewire November 27th, 2010 9:12 PM

There is plenty of both in the world, bad and good. But I find it a tad naive to assign an "amount" to either of them. Don't base what you see on the nightly news as the overall earthly monitor of good vs. evil. They cover the bad stories because they generate ratings, $, etc.

And don't give me "the World is going to hell these days/Kids these days are so lazy/horrible etc" crap. Our Grandparents said that about our parents, and their parents in turn said that about them in the 60s. ;) Corruption/Bad/evil, whatever you want to call it, has always existed alongside good. They exist in relative harmony with each other.

PlatinumDude November 28th, 2010 5:33 AM

There's more bad than good in the world because of war, conflict and lack of peace. Like iRyu said, the world used to be good, but we made it bad.

My alignment to good and bad is the former because I feel that's the right place to be in.

Captain Fabio November 28th, 2010 9:48 AM

I guess it depends on the persons perception... Durr.

For me, the world is more full of good than bad. If there were 'more' bad people, then the normal citizens that you see every day would be hostile instead of just walking past.

Rogue planet November 28th, 2010 2:03 PM

I don't think there's way more good than bad or vice versa, per se. I think there's just a lack of caring and a lot of indifference involved.

Not many people will go out of their way to do something really outstandingly good for others. I don't blame them to be honest, I wouldn't do something like that.
But there is a lot of good in the world, minor things like helping out someone who needs it. Helping strangers on the street, things like that. These sorts of things go by unnoticed unless you happen to be there at the precise right time to witness it.

Then there's a very small minority that enjoy being cruel to other people. Serial killers, girl throwing puppies in river, etc. These sorts of people aren't common, but someone like that will get a hell of a lot of attention. A girl casually kills some puppies and it's global news; if a girl found and saved some puppies, she'd be lucky if she even got a mention in the local newspaper. As a result we're given the idea that the world is full of evil.

In short, I mainly agree with Bologna.

In my opinion, the world is full of ignorance and selfishness, and as a result there's a lot of negativity. But evil? I don't think there's a lot more evil than good, there's plenty of it, but it's not overwhelming. There's got to be a line to draw as well between what's defined as evil and what isn't. If someone's hurting others for pleasure, that's evil. If they've got a ton of negative qualities, then it doesn't necessarily make them evil.

I'm going to use Kura's post as an example just because it's got quite a bit of detail, forgive me Kura! I'm not picking you out to spite you.

This is seen as a negative trait, but is it really a trait of a bad person? I don't think so. It's just a trait. Kura might lose patience, but it's not something she does to purposefully spite people, it's just part of her personality. So for that reason, I don't think it makes her a bad person at all. It's the same with any other trait, if it's involuntary and just a part of someone's personality, can we really judge them as being "evil"?

I can commend you for that. But who's to say promiscuity is necessarily a bad trait?
It also comes down to opinions. What's perceived as negative by one person may be seen as something positive by another person. The ideas of good and evil are something that we develop as individuals, and whilst we are largely guided by society as a whole which means most of us have similar views (ie. murder is bad, rape is bad etc.) there is also a lot of variation in where people draw the line.

Which type of person are you? Why?
I think I'm more of a good person than a bad person, but I'm still only human just like anyone else so I have my flaws. /not good at talking about myself.

Ryoutarou November 28th, 2010 2:20 PM

People definitely have the capacity for both in great strides, but I've always been one to think there is more good in the world than there is bad. As someone said, it seems like a lot of good is overlooked because it just seems so...minor than anything bad that's done, but it's just about everywhere if you look hard enough. I think that when something does something bad, it's often blown up because it hurts people and causes a scene more than someone doing something good would.

I'd like to think I'm generally a good person, I've got my flaws, but I try to make up for them in whatever way I can. I can be a little selfish or rude at times, but I don't think that makes me a bad person, it just makes me human.

Stratos99 November 28th, 2010 2:22 PM

What I got from the first bit of Vendak's post is that being good is the norm, so when something like a girl throwing puppies in the river happens it's given the spotlight because something like that isn't the norm.

Just going with that I'd say for the most part good outweighs evil or bad.

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ November 30th, 2010 12:30 PM

I'd have to say there's more good in the world, because the people I come into regular contact are friendly and aren't aiming to harm me. I can't deny there's a lot of bad in the world, but it seems that outside of a few conflicts with some truly evil people that occurred online a couple years ago, the bad really hasn't affected me personally.

It just seems that when bad things do occur, they get all the headlines so we think the world is filled with nasty people.

Cold Fusion November 30th, 2010 1:19 PM

Really, if you look at life that everything around you is bad and there is hardly good, you will think it's bad and vise versa. It's hard for some to see and for some not to see, but it's there. But to be honest, I've always believed that there is an equal amount of good and bad, because even those who are good have a small amount of bad and those bad have good in them. It's what comes natural to a person. Everyone who is bad still has friends who they will care for, or family or something like that and if they don't they'll show their good side in another way.

Me, I've thought myself as good all my life but everyone thinks themselves as good. I'll be honest, I have a good part and a bad part, everyone does, it's what makes us human. And, if I didn't accept that I was bad at times, geez, I'd be in so many arguments right now.
