Do you feel guilty on the computer

(Add a question mark to the title, lol)

What I mean is, I'm an extremely outgoing, athletic individual who's always moving or doing something constructive.

However, sometimes I don't feel like doing stuff, especially when it's as cold as it is now. I'll just sit on the computer for the better part of the day, either on Skype or Youtube doing basically nothing. And I end up feeling terrible, feeling that a day just went by that I could have done something useful.

How do you all feel about this?

インフェルノの津波 November 27th, 2010 5:26 PM

Not necessarily. This is the best part of my day, PC.

Besides, my real life is boring D|

Stratos99 November 27th, 2010 5:34 PM

I spend a lot of time on the computer because I want to, sometimes I feel like I'm wasting time but at least it's being wasted on something I enjoy. I consider myself in good shape and I do have a social life so I don't think it's detrimental to me, so I don't feel bad about it that much.

Khengi November 27th, 2010 5:37 PM

A big thing with me is I have lots of dreams and goals. One big one is to be a professional Soccer player for either the MLA or J1 (definitely J1). However, those guys spend probably 2% of their time on the computer, and the rest of the time is split up of hanging out and partying (with the wealth they've made), playing actual games and of course practice.

Not to mention I'm a terrible procrastinator, so almost every moment on the PC is me putting something else off...

moments. November 27th, 2010 5:54 PM

Yeah sometimes I do... I don't feel bad about being on the computer, but I can spend ridiculous amounts of time here, and when I turn down doing something else for the computer I feel guilty...

It doesn't happen often, but sometimes I do feel like I'm wasting my life.

Sammi November 27th, 2010 7:15 PM

For the most part, no. I work my butt off at work for 30-40+ hours of the week. Sometimes getting home and getting on the computer is the only thing I have to look forward to after a long day at work.

Only time I feel guilty is nights like tonight, where I want to get writing done and got distracted by the Internet instead. Either that, or when I lived at home -- I had stuff I needed to do, yet stayed on the computer all day. At that point my lack of self-control was pretty evident.

iRyu November 27th, 2010 7:18 PM

Most of the time I feel guilty... Like when I could've been doing science fair today (excuse: pretty exhausted from my trip) or when I could've been playing basketball (regardless of the weather).

This thread made me go practice my sax for an hour, haha...

mikey November 27th, 2010 7:18 PM

Eh, not really. My life isn't that exciting, so I don't feel guilty about spending some time on the computer.

Stellar November 27th, 2010 8:13 PM

I never feel guilty on the computer unless I can admit to myself that there's something more productive I could be doing. Granted, there are infinite ways I'd rather be spending my time, but no one can do what they want to do 24/7. Until I start college in January and/or get off my ass and find a job, this is as productive as it gets. Besides, doing something you enjoy is always worth the time spent, as long as it's in moderation. (: Unless you're a serial killer, in which case... no.

Alice November 27th, 2010 8:18 PM

I know exactly how you feel. I used to exercise 3 hours a day, and I'm just sitting at my computer all day now... I feel like I'm not accomplishing anything. (But it's soooo cold.)

I did start riding my bike again recently though.

Dubstep November 27th, 2010 9:34 PM

The computer gives me my reading and study material, and music to write to, and something easy to write on... and the Internet to distract me from all of it.

So, sometimes.

Shanghai Alice November 27th, 2010 9:36 PM

I... typically lie around the house, and do nothing. So, yes, I feel guilty. :/

Yeah. I need to do something more productive... But what?

Fever November 27th, 2010 10:22 PM

I dont feel guilty. I have my sport that I do. I train everyday because I can. Weather doesn't matter for me given it's an indoor sport.
I go to the gym still. I work mon-fri (at the moment Im on holidays).
I play my guitar whenever I feel the urge. This also includes singing and all the musical stuff I like doing.
I can pack alot into each 24 hour period because at most I sleep about an hour a night, on average.
I have a ridiculous amount of energy given how little I sleep.

Ho-Oh November 27th, 2010 10:28 PM

...yup. Whenever I use the laptop, I feel bad as in... I know there's more I should do, but is getting up really worth the effort? I know someday I'll have to break out of this habit, but having it over my head is kinda annoying. Even when it comes to uni and stuff, I'll prioritise using the Internet over doing my assignments until pretty much the last minute. Even now, when I'm on uni holidays, I feel bad for using the Internet and not going out places, but meh. I'll do all that in the future? :D ...I hope.

Massacre. November 27th, 2010 10:35 PM

I don't often feel guilty, but sometimes I spend way too much time here.

Bologna November 27th, 2010 10:36 PM

I have felt guilty about spending so much time on the computer before, because I felt like I could have been doing something more productive, and my family has given me a hard time about it in the past.

But now, nah. I enjoy being on the computer and it's not like I'm slacking off on anything else, still make time for friends and family, still get my work in school and work done, still exercise, etc. Maybe it's because now I'm more so on the computer at night and I justify it because there's really nothing else I would be doing on nights that I don't have plans.

Enigma November 28th, 2010 1:06 AM

I don't really feel that bad about it unless there is something else I need to be doing. (usually homework or a project)

PlatinumDude November 28th, 2010 5:43 AM

Normally, I'm smart, but I do feel guilty when I go online because I feel that my intelligence usually washes away.

Captain Fabio November 28th, 2010 9:37 AM

Not at all.
If I didn't spend most of my day in front of the computer, I wouldn't get my University work done.

Trap-Eds November 28th, 2010 10:52 AM

Only when I have stuff to do, like homework or chores, and I'm too lazy to get up...like now. Arrgh.

Uecil November 28th, 2010 11:01 AM

I do feel guilty sometimes, but I spend most of my time on the computer at school anyway so it doesn't make a difference and really I only come online for my friends, not myself.

dragoniteuser November 28th, 2010 11:09 AM

I actually do! Well sometimes really...
At times I really do not feel like going out, so I just sit in front of my computer, but if that's a long period of time, and it usually is, I do feel bad, and guilty about it.

Rogue planet November 28th, 2010 1:10 PM

No, I never feel guilty. I'm not harming anyone and it's not like I have anything better to be doing, whereas there are plenty of worse things I could be doing.

Agent Clank November 28th, 2010 1:14 PM

Nope, I never feel guilty for being on the computer. lol
I only feel guilty if I should be doing chores or other things.

Ryoutarou November 28th, 2010 5:06 PM

Three of my classes are online courses, so I don't exactly feel guilty about it at all, I need to be at the computer quite a bit to do my work. I've got one class I take in person this semester and that's a rather long photography class, I enjoy my time there and often stay a few hours longer than the class time since I get caught up in my work. I'm also out and about often enough for that class this semester. Also been working on a manuscript as well, so I've got more than enough reason to stay at my computer. Not that I mind, I guess I'm one of those people that enjoys sitting at the computer for long stretches of time.
